' this was more your plan than it was my own. ' she informed. furina sentenced her to death, she sentenced her divinity to death. her voice had dipped, the softened edges to her attempted comfort defining themselves into firmer edges, a sterned tone not there before. not from displeasure but more so to remain completely honest with furina. after all, the only reason focalors looked how she did was because furina gave her shape as focalors is merely a name & the divinity that accompanied said name was given a figure through the one that carried it once upon a time. ' for who would ever want to be sentenced to death the way i was? ' right? though the divine & the mortal would never be of the same kind, something that united them both was their fear of death when faced with it, that was something she discovered first hand when she was meant to perish before neuvillette. in essence she had perished as what remained of her were mere specks of divine energy held together by the memories that she had taken from the distraught woman before her. ' & i admired & loved you the more for it still. ' focalors smiled, that stern tone softening once more. ' you have chosen to leave the palais mermonia & left all matters of overlooking fontaine to neuvillette on your own accord, by definition you are aware that you need your time & space to heal. ' when this plan was devised, the damage upon the self that got left behind was the last of their concerns, they just wanted to save everybody. ' weep, wail, punch something, throw things, fall on your knees, shout & scream, be angry if you must ... but neither of those things will absolve the fact that time will do for you what you feel at this moment it can not. ' it was affecting her as well, this state furina was in, but as the humanity most beloved it was to be expected. in all of that selflessness seemingly so bottomless, so must be her despair.
she dully noted that at the mention of neuvillette furina's ache seemed to have increased. perhaps she should refrain from mentioning that man for now as it seemed that certain unprecedented developments had occurred throughout their centuries together.
' hmm, may one be bold enough to suggest tidying up your new abode a bit? ' how was that for a start? ' one does not mean that as a tease or jest. ' she added with a slight chuckle, she herself was most able to understand how the suggestion could have been taken as such hence her spoken afterthought. ' one would have no qualms in assisting you in the task, but technically there ever really was one of us. ' she had no body & was restricted to a mirror for a reason.
The line of her lips struggles to remain a smooth line, the corners of her lips tugging downward, eyes brimming with warmth. Furina swallows the lump within her throat, hands balling into fists at her sides. Brow furrowing in frustration. Can't she see the truth behind her own words? ❝ What shortsightedness? I'm... I'm not— ❞ Her cheeks redden at the comment, puffing out slightly in a huff. ❝ I haven't spoken any words that were untrue! ❞ She argued, willing herself to calm down, unsure of her success.
At the mention of her beloved, her gaze lands upon a darker corner of the room. The wound left in his wake is still too fresh, his absence an emptiness in her days that aches... and aches, and aches. They had not even a proper conversation since her departure, her mind still reeling from the events that transpired, her mind buzzing with the information he attempted to convey. If offered little relief, and her emotions had been nebulous; she didn't know what to say. Or what to think. She does not enjoy thinking about that moment, the last look upon his features, how their last true conversation had been fraught with tension, at odds and hearts so far away from one another. Furina shakes her head. ❝ He... attempted to. He did. I... could not listen properly. ❞
She wants to argue. Some part of her wished to have those memories, if not for herself then at least to soothe over some inevitable conflicts that resulted from not having them, answers that even she had to navigate without on the blind faith that her Mirror-Me had given her the best directions she could. What if she had known something about her intentions before, would those people of Poisson been spared? But her going on without knowing certain truths herself as a necessity within the grand scheme of things... she struggles with that concept, merely falling silent in response to it.
❝ But I... I don't know where to begin with that! ❞ Something so simple and innate in humanity, and she is already struggling. Her eyes are large, seeking guidance as she looks directly into the mirror. Time... she's had so much time. Too much time. Furina sinks to her knees beside the mirror, exhaustion that she feels in the depths of her soul bleeding into her voice. ❝ Can't you tell me something... more useful? ❞

i’m thinking about all of the law reforms furina has approved & passed over her years co-ruling alongside neuvillette & how she dealt with her people resisting these reforms & changes she approved of & allowed, like when with the melusines.
& then i remembered the surface leveled silly law about how no pet was allowed to be named furina. it sounds funny at first but in my opinion furina is very much aware of how she’s perceived by a good portion of her people. as a celebrity, as a mascot more than anything. she isn’t oblivious or dumb to this. & i’m sure, as harmless as it might be to some to name pets after her even out of affection for her, the thought of it to her must have been an extremely dehumanizing idea.
to have animals with her name on them when the people she loves the most would so easily refer to her as a mascot. save some form of her sanity & avoid that from happening instead hence the law.

ah ... her divinity found it to be an impossibility not to admire her even in such a disastrous state. furina avoided her like she was the final plague, refused to acknowledge her even if she was very aware that she was around. perhaps it was cruel of her to have pulled a string or two to have the mirror furina had specifically requested not to be brought to her new abode with her belongings, but she could hardly help herself. furina was everything to her. she loved her with everything that was left of her.
' my dearest furina, one does not fault you for your shortsightedness. ' to be imperfect was to be human & it was in such things where furina was the most perfect in her eyes. ' one is certain neuvillette relayed everything to you, correct? the honest man that he is. what we wanted at the end of all of this with all of our heart? ' to be human & to allow those like them to continue to exist, that was their justice. their unconditional love at the expense of the self. ' one does not expect you to remember, though taking those memories was necessary in order to fool the heavenly principles, to us it was a mercy to the self as well. ' all of those struggles, all of that pain, the anguish, the frustration of not knowing what to do, how to do it, how to save everybody, & failing time & time again ... she would not desire such a thing. though as a divine she found it complicated & difficult to understand humans, with furina she made a stronger effort, with furina she would understand even if her comfort was not as warm as one would want it to be.
' all you must do is live, live for yourself & nobody else. ' how they always longed for. ' give yourself time my dear furina. '
❝ you shall rise again, i am sure. a woman like you. ❞ (focalors)
She avoids the mirrors, the reflections in the water that might invite her in. Time and time again, she's walked quickly past those reflective surfaces, not... running, she's most definitely not scared, but... why is it that she feels... haunted? And so there is avoidance, even if the faintest sensation of awareness befalls her when there's a mirror in the distance of a dressing room, a reminder of what she could see there when the light reflects just right.
Furina had specifically requested that the mirror be left behind in her room at the palais, but it has found its way here regardless, among the boxes of items and belongings she fails to have the energy to address. They lay scattered about, half open, half abandoned, taking up room in this empty apartment haphazardly.
Within the darkness, she hugs her knees to herself, cheek pressed against them as she sits in her thoughts and emotions; she had thought the loneliness would dissipate now. That something would turn things around, that change would make everything... light again. But she now feels lonelier than before, alone in all senses of the word, with not even her beloved Neuvillette by her side anymore. She feels tired, and alone, as if she will not move from this spot in time just the very same when the five hundred years flowed past her and she was like a rock in the stream of time. Unmoving, the same, while it all flowed on without her.
Her gaze slides towards the mirror, sensing it's call, gripping her legs closer to her as she stubbornly refuses to answer for minutes that stretch into longer moments in time. Finally, she stands, frustrated, and yanks the white sheet hanging over it and — it's her.
Mirror me.
Furina's lips press together, her instincts proving to never fail her. Perhaps she was here all along, with the manner in which she gazes at her, something like sympathy and care. Her words seem to support that fact, or perhaps Furina's misery is simply too difficult to hide.
❝ ... What joy will that bring me, if I am alone? The people do not need me anymore. ❞ Even with their gazes fixed on her, their hopes and prayers and expectations fixed upon her, she'd been alone then too.

furina's smile remained in place, her arms tucked behind her with a posture most dignified of a noblewoman most common. the sight of miss hu tao brought forth many wonderful memories, memories she had made in liyue with her & the company she had with her at the time. the knowledge she & zhongli provided & indulged her with was still something she carried around with her. she took notes most diligently once she arrived back to her apartment from her trip. she still had those notes, in fact. she quite missed liyue ... sore for that feeling of tranquility that overcame her when she was over there.
' hehe ' furina giggled ' you honor me with your acceptance of my invitation. ' she bowed her head, a gloved hand brought forth to the rim of her crown to prevent it from falling over. furina would have invited zhongli as well, but she figured it was only appropriate to see one of them since they both worked in the same parlor as to not leave hu tao's business completely unattended from furina's whims. ' really? ' wasn't that a curious thing? ' well, you'll have plenty time to ask over some tea then! ' furina chimed, her excitement brimming slightly over her control to which she realized a second too late. ' i-i mean ahem- ' the regina cleared her throat ' w-we may catch up over tea if you would like? '
@myjustice / Furina
Despite now visiting the region a few times before, Fontaine never ceased to amaze her. Even the very concept of the aquabus she rode upon. She couldn't help but kneel upwards on the cushioned seat. her hands gripping at the metal railing. The city horizon was as breathtaking as ever. Anticipation was swelling in her very soul.
Of course she always felt excited to visit. But this time? It was even more special. She was actually invited for once. It had been quite some time since she had seen Furina. There was just so much swimming around her head that she had been meaning in inquiring since their last departing.
Finally the aquabus arrived at its ended destination the sound of whirring motors coming to a gradual halt along the water way it travelled upon. Oh! She was hearing a familiar voice off in the distance. Hu Tao scrambled hastily to the exit, her hand waving to greet the former archon.
"Ahh! Miss Furina!" her voice rang out cheerfully for a funeral director. With that she made her way to the docked platform. Once there she dug into her satchel to retrieve the written invitation.
"Aiya! I can't begin to tell you how much of delight it is to receive this from you. I've been always meaning to catch up ever since Lantern Rite ended. There is just so much I wanted to ask! ~"
