Writing Prompt 5
5A
What were some of your considerations?
"changed the color to look modern"
I would change this to saying. "In order to create a new gender-neutral/fluid design, I rebranded the color scheme into more nude and neutral colors to not play into stereotypes. I wanted to make the product seem less cheap and used these natural tones to achieve a more relaxed and higher-class feel.
"Changed the typeface to look cooler"
I would change this to "To help the brand look more inviting and calm I introduced a custom rounded typeface for the new logo in order to achieve a less harsh approach in contrast to the before sharp and spikey edges creating a more grungy and loud feeling."
"change the shape to look more minimal"
I would change this to "I changed the shape from a more trapezoid shape into a rectangular shape instead, with a younger generation having less space the rectangular shape fits better when storing the product and creating less bulk along with playing into the aforementioned modern and clean feel I was trying to rebrand to."

What were your pulls?
I would think that the pull for my redesign would be market-pull innovation (human-centered design) or meaning-driven innovation.
What direction is your project going towards?
I feel like my project is going towards more of an incremental innovation.
What were your design changes pulled by? which forces? does it have any technology pulls? Is it more based on meaning-making pulls? (personal and collective drive.)
My design changes were pulled from the idea of wanting to make a product that was more sustainable, modernized, and human-centered. I wanted to up the age range and make it more welcoming to all genders rather than aimed at specific children/little girls.
How novel is it? Is it readily acceptable? If so, is it a familiar design solution? If so, isn't that a cliche design?
I don't think that this redesign is very novel, the product itself is but not the packaging. It's modern and clean and is definitely readily acceptable. I pulled from color palettes that are more nude or natural much like the Kardashians use in their decor and fashion which everyone in this day and age idolizes and accepts whether they like it or not. The design itself is familiar, its changed into a box that everyone knows the look of and the color palette isn't unique but it is unique within dolls. I think that yes maybe this could be considered cliche in general but in terms of dolls, this is definitely an out-of-the-box approach and something not really seen before. Typically there are pinks and purples and sparkles which I decided to completely remove.

Writing Prompt #4
In what ways can personality tests be used to identify and define our demographics?
Personality tests can be used to identify demographics because they can help dictate what type of design someone wants and would actually use rather than just assuming someone of this demographic would maybe use or want this product.
How can we generate information that helps designers make decisions for their target demographics?
We can generate information to help designers make decisions for their demographic by doing tests and trials on potential consumers to see which certain demographics like in order to make the best design decision for something that they would want to buy.
Can personality types be used as an accountable indicator equivalent to common indicators such as age, income, and education? Why or why not?
I would say that it's not a foolproof indicator in any way but it would be safe to make an assumption about personality regarding design. I think that age, income, and education are more practical factors when thinking about composition and specific demographics as personality is much more of a spectrum and can change on a day-to-day basis for people but generally, a certain personality would like the same things as others with the same personality.
How can we use it in the design industry?
We can use personality in the design industry to help design for particular demographics. Someone that is a more happy outgoing and extroverted person would want a product that is loud, in both function, colors, taste, etc, rather than something dull and plain that someone who is more introverted. This helps designers to better understand their consumers and make the product that would be best for their target audience.

Prompt 3 IN CLASS WRITING PROMPT Tuesday 1-31
I was informed in class that I missed the start of writing prompt 3 as it was worked on last week in class - but now that I'm here this is what I have to contribute to the third prompt.
Part 1
I think the strategy that I liked the most was turning the ugly foods into something more appealing such as a brand of chips. I think it was more of an outside-of-the-box approach rather than just making posters and such in order to make the food look more appealing. I also believe this to be the most effective approach to help sell these ugly foods. It turned it into a product that more people are going to want. With a poster promoting to buy the food, the food will still just be sitting there and with it being a new product (chips) it increases the longevity of that food product to hopefully in the end produce less waste.
Part 2
I think that knowing the undersides with some strategies could potentially change my decision. I think that knowing more statistical numbers of how much food is sold, production costs, and more would ultimately change my decision.
Part 3
I think that knowing more about the problem from a systematic level would change my thoughts about the solution. As mentioned previously I would like to know its effects statistically. I want to know how much pollution this would be caused by what the chips are being packaged in and within production how much waste is created such as when it comes to cooking the chips and cutting and such. The already existing solutions feed into the system yes because vertical farming needs to use energy in order to keep its temperature and lighting causing waste and pollution. On the other hand, full-circle farming is working well in ways that all the waste is being used and is being used for good so that there is nothing left behind. I think that although vertical farming is beneficial to demand by being able to grow food that is regulated and can be grown at any point is a good idea but do the pros outweigh the cons. They could opt for solar energy to help use less natural resource energy like gas but there is still some pollution with that. I think that farming should be kept to the farmers but I understand why that can't always be the case, especially in today's society. We as humans also need to change and be more adaptable to our situations and not everything necessarily needs a solution.
I think that I liked the more intimate approach it helped to make these ugly foods more accessible to everyone rather than adding a luxury feel to them.
I think in order to get more people to buy the ugly produce I would sell more in bulk, as in throwing a few ugly produce items into a bag of good ones to force others to buy them. I think you could also advertise new ways to use the ugly produce to help incentivize buying them more. Such as using ugly potatoes for something more visually appealing and more high end like turning them into pasta like gnocchi.
I also didn't have a full grasp on all of this because of missing the class prior so I'm just kind of spitballing off first impressions here.

Prompt 2 IN CLASS WRITING PROMPT Thursday 1-24
What do you enjoy the most about Unboxing? Or seeing something being unboxed?
When I see something being unboxed what I enjoy most would just be the idea of me opening that item instead. Whether it's something that I'm planning on buying/waiting for/expecting. It's like a teaser for what I could be receiving If the person unboxing is super excited about what they're opening it helps to make me excited especially if it's something I won't be able to experience opening firsthand.
Select a quote from the reading and discuss how it might relate to your answer above.
"Husserl believed that through bracketing it is possible to gain insight into the common features of any lived experience."
This quote related to what I mentioned above because by seeing someone else's lived experience (unboxing and item) I can better understand how the item is meant to be opened or used and how someone else might feel about that product.
What are some ways you could represent/covert that experience into a meaningful activity/experience/strategy/collection?
I think that I could convert this into a different experience by having someone open an item they don't want to open to see a more negative range of emotions. If that something that they didn't want to open was something that I wanted to open I wonder if it would deter me from wanting it anymore and make me more curious.

Prompt 1 IN CLASS WRITING PROMPT Tuesday 1-22?
RP2 Writing Exercise Prompt: List 3-5 "worlds" (cultures, communities, landscapes, industries, philosophies etc...) with which any of your patterns of consumption connects.
Worlds in which I consume:
I consume the life of the city - busy, fast-moving, pollution (from driving, creating waste, etc.)
On the other hand, I also consume nature - I grew up in rural Minnesota so I know what it's like to be surrounded by plants, animals, and quietness which I try to bring into my new city life
I consume the coffee industry - I drink it daily, usually at home but I still need to buy products to brew with, taste, cups, and more along with the occasional treating myself by going to a coffee shop
I consume to the idea that treat others the way that you want to be treated - I usually have a pretty mean-looking resting face but I try to always be positive and always treat people with respect and be as nice as I can even on a hard day
