The firstkiss on his cheek didn’t wake him.

The secondkiss on his other cheek caused a little startle.

The third kisson his lips felt like he was still in a dream.

And by the fourthkiss Magnus knew what was happening.

‘Mmh.’ Helet out a soft groan against the lips of his boyfriend. It’s amazing how evenin the morning Alec’s scent was one of the best scents Magnus could imagine inall his centuries on this earth.

‘Finally!’Alec’s voice exclaimed, followed by another kiss meeting Magnus’ lips. ‘The onetime I have a day off you decide to sleep in.’

And that’swhere Magnus realized it. This was their day off. They had the whole day tothemselves and that idea sounded better than any other thing. His eyes slowlyopened only to meet Alec’s gaze. Alec was leaning on him and his fingers weregently stroking Magnus’ arm.

If therewas a certain way he could wake up for the rest of his life, every single day… Itwould definitely be like this.

‘Isn’t thatwhat you do on a day off? Sleeping in?’ Magnus smirked when he returned the favourand slowly caressed the shadowhunter’s cheek. ‘Goodmorning, Alexander.’

‘Normal peopleprobably do, but I’m just too excited to spend this day with you.’ Alec repliedwhile smiling from ear to ear. ‘Goodmorning, Magnus.’

It was ablessing to see Alec as relaxed as he was now. So at ease, the little sparklein his eyes and no sign of any worries. This was Magnus’ favourite version of Alec.

‘Well Isuppose you already have a plan for the day then?’ He guessed while alreadysitting himself up in bed, ready to get dressed or whatever Alec expected of him. Butinstead Alec just shook his head and laid himself on his back again, pattingthe spot next to him.

‘I justwant to lay here for a bit… With you.’

And somehowthat was exactly everything Magnus wanted right now. So he laid himself next toAlec again, his head searching for Alec’s chest instead of his own pillow andhis hand slowly stroking the lines of his boyfriend’s six pack.

Alec’s armfound his way around Magnus, pulling him even closer to his chest. And Magnus neverfelt more loved.

‘I don’tthink life can get better than this.’ Alec softly whispered, but still loud enoughfor Magnus to hear.

Magnussmiled, he smiled like he never smiled before. And although Alec was not ableto see it, Magnus knew Alec was smiling too. ‘I think it somehow probably can…But only with you, Alexander… Only with you.’

Hi there!! So this ask has been sitting in my ask box for a while now and I just don’t know what to do with it. I feel like this would be just too sad for me to write. Because if Magnus is dying… oh god… I can’t handle that. I can’t even READ fics where one of the characters of an otp dies. Let alone write one… I would just cry like a baby together with Alec. After bottlinghis last orders of potions for clients, Magnus decides to call it a day. Aleccame home half an hour ago and walked in to say a quick hello before lettingMagnus back to his work. But now the warlock is ready to spend the evening withhis favourite man. And when he steps outside his workroom, he hears Alec’s voicecoming from the balcony. He’s making a call. At first Magnus isn’t  really bothered and he doesn’t mean to catchanything from the conversation, but when he hears his name fall, he cannot helpbut start listing to whatever Alec is saying.

‘Okay, I’llask Magnus to join as well.’

It’s frustratingthat Magnus doesn’t know who’s on the other line. But given Alec’s change oftone, makes Magnus believe it’s not something Alec loves to hear.

‘What doesthat mean?’ Alec’s frown is seeping through his voice.  

‘Dad,really I’m getting tired of this. You should talk to mom, she understands it.’

Silenceagain… And Magnus already knows what kind of conversation this really is.

‘Magnus ISfamily, dad. If you invite me, you’re inviting him as well. If you don’t, itwill probably be an empty table, given Izzy has the exact same feeling aboutthis.’ His angry and defensive tone kind of gives Magnus butterflies, althoughhe really won’t admit that.

‘Okay. Butif you say one wrong thing to him, you can be sure you’re not seeing my faceagain. Understood?’

Then ashort moment of silence, before Alec cuts the conversation off.

‘Yes. Seeyou then.’

Alec turnsaround with a frustrated, loud sigh and his look of frustration turns into surprisewhen he meets Magnus’ gaze.

‘I didn’tmean to listen to that.’ Magnus immediately apologizes. ‘I just heard my nameand the tone of your voice. And it didn’t sound good.’

Alec shrugswhen he walks over to his boyfriend and gives him a sweet peck on his lips. ‘I’msorry you had to hear that. I hope you still want to join?’ He asks with a weaksmile. ‘Please don’t feel not welcome on the dinner party. Izzy and I wantyou to be there. And Max too.’

It warms Magnus’heart how they even make him feel more welcome now, although they think he feels the opposite. And it doesn’t really matter to him that Alec’sdad has a different opinion. The most important thing to him is something Alecsaid in the conversation.

‘You toldhim I was family too.’

And that takesAlec by surprise. He even chuckles after hearing Magnus say the words as if hedidn’t know. ‘Of course you are! I love you, you are my partner, so of courseyou are my family.’ He smiles, having the little lights in his eyes. Somethinghe often gets when he looks at Magnus.

‘It’s beena long time since I had a family.’ Magnus states softly. And Alec’s looksoftens when he notices how important this really is for the warlock.

‘It’s an absolutehonour to have you in my family, Magnus.’ He whispers when his lips come closeragain. And when they find each other in a kiss, Magnus couldn’t help but feelthe exact same about having Alec as his family. 

The best one he ever had.

It happenedas unexpected for Alec as it did for Magnus. After a long day of working in theinstitute, Alec was still reading the last reports of the day. Until a single knockon the door took him by surprise. Magnus appeared in the doorway and for asecond he literally took Alec’s breath away.

‘I know youtold me not to wait up, but I do think you’re taking this a bit too far, Alexander.It’s almost 11 pm.’ Magnus’ voice filled the room when he walked himself closerto Alec. But Alec just nodded, mesmerized by Magnus’ appearance.

When he didnot react, Magnus frown grew bigger. ‘Are you alright, love?’

But Alecwas still nodding. He hadn’t stopped nodding after the first thing Magnus saidwhen he came in.

‘Alexander!’He raised his voice then, snapping Alec out of his daydream instantly.

‘I’m sorry…What did you say?’  

Magnus chuckledafter seeing the confused look on the face of the shadowhunter. ‘You’re tired. You’re sleepingwith your eyes open.’

‘No. No..’Alec denied. ‘You’re just beautiful, Magnus. I got distracted.’

And thosewords left Magnus speechless for just a few seconds, just like Alec. This wasthe first time Alec had said it. It’s been on his mind for several times, butthis was the first time he said it out loud. How could he not say it? It didn’t even matter if Magnus wore make-up or not, if he had glitter on his clothes or not, there was something effortlessly beautiful about him and it couldn’t be denied. Maybe it was the way he walked or the way he smiled when he was clearly worried or the way he looked at Alec. But Magnus Bane was stunningly beautiful. That was an absolute fact in Alec’s mind.

‘And now youare getting delusional.’ Magnus laughed when he came back to reality, taking Alec with him when he said the words. ‘Come ‘on. Home we go, Alexander.’

But Alec just smiled when he shook his head to tell Magnus’ wrong. 

‘I’m notdelusional.’ He answered while side eyeing his boyfriend. ‘It’s just the truth. ButI will go home with you, just because you’re that beautiful.’ And when he walkedpast Magnus, he could definitely see the small, honoured smile on the warlock’s face.

What happens after the last scene of 2x12, afterValentine took over Magnus’ body.

‘Magnus, Iam so sorry… For everything you had to go through.’ Alec’s voice breaks the uncomfortablesilence. He just finished cleaning up the last pieces of glass when Magnuswalked into the room and Alec’s worry only grows bigger seeing the distressedlook on his face.

‘That agonyrune…’ Magnus starts after he sat himself down on his sofa, looking like thewhole scene is played out again before his eyes. ‘It made me relive memories I’vespent centuries trying to forget.’

Alec sighswhen he sits himself beside the warlock, feeling quite desperate getting toknow this new side of Magnus. One of the strongest men he knows is broken rightnow. And he had no idea how to make this better.

‘Magnus,tell me how to fix this…’ He begs him, searching for a sign of hope in his boyfriendsfeatures. ‘Just tell me what to do, please.’

But Magnusstays silent. He has never seen him like this. And it scares Alec more than he ever thought it would. Especially because in the end, some of it is his own damn fault… 

‘I’m sosorry I didn’t believe you… I should’ve known when you told me about omamori charmand –’

‘Alexander,no… You had all the right not to believe me. It’s Valentine we’re talking ab—’

‘There wasno way he could’ve known these things, Magnus. I should’ve realized somethingwas off. I should’ve realized it when I came to see you here. And I didn’t. It’smy fault you…’

‘It’s NOTyour fault!’ Magnus raises his voice suddenly, making Alec stop his uncomfortableramble. ‘I don’t blame you anything, Alexander. It’s Azazel that tricked us all.He even tricked Valentine.’

The thoughtof Azazel makes Alec even more angry than he already is about the situation.That’s the only good decision he made today.

‘I’m glad Ikilled him…’ He mutters softly.

‘I heardyou did.’

‘He attackedyou. Or Valentine… Anyway, I thought it was you.’

Magnusgives him a weak smile. ‘Thank you for that. Even though I wasn’t really there.’

Then there’sanother silence and it feels like it stands there like a wall between them. AndAlec hates them all. He hates Azazel. He hates Valentine. And he hates everysingle creature who ever did hurt or still would hurt his Magnus. He couldn’tthink of anything more painful than seeing Magnus sitting here in front of him,broken and scarred with more than Alec will ever be able to imagine.

And that’swhere his hand slowly but surely searches for Magnus’ hand. And when they findeach other, Alec gives it a loving squeeze. ‘I know you are hurting. And I’mgoing to be here. Whenever you need me. If you want to talk, I’m going tolisten. If you want to say nothing, I’m going to hold your hand. And if youwant space, I’m going to give you your space. But just know I’m not going toleave you with this, Magnus. I’m going to be here for you, if you like it ornot.’

His wordsmake Magnus look up at him and it’s the first time their eyes actually meetsince Magnus entered the room. And when their gazes cross, Alec realizes onceagain this is not going to be easy. But he’s going to do whatever it takes tomake Magnus’ eyes happy again.

‘I’ve beenthrough many episodes like this in my existence, Alexander.’ Magnus startssoftly, their hands still strangled together. ‘But it’s the first time I’mdoing this with you. And even now you already did more good than you’ll everbe able to understand.’

And withthat, with just a loving look and a holding hand, they both know they’re goingto get through this.

Magnus let’shimself fall on the sofa of his loft. A sigh escapes his lips, trying to breathout all the wrong thoughts from his head, but it doesn’t work. Alec walks passedhim, his hand brushing Magnus’ hair, when he announces he’s going to take a shower.And the warlock just nods, staring into oblivion as he hears the bathroom door close.

Today was astressful day. Stressful for different reasons when it comes to the both ofthem. Stressful for Alec because Jace was in trouble. He went on a missionalone, after Alec specifically told him to wait until he was ready to come along.But it involved Clary. And we all know Jace has trouble containing himself whenshe’s in the picture. Long story short. Jace almost died today. And Magnusalmost died with him, while watching Alec in terror. That was the stressful partfor Magnus. And he knew that he shouldn’t worry about it. It was not fair forAlec or Jace to be jealous about it. They had their parabatai bond and Magnus knewwhat that meant better than anyone. He’d seen the phenomenon for centuries. Butthere was this part of him, that always wondered and worried about the big ‘whatif’. What if Alec did have more feelings for Jace than the eye met? What ifAlec’s feelings for Magnus weren’t really comparable with the feelings he hasfor Jace?

‘Magnus!’Suddenly Alec’s voice wakes Magnus out of his thoughts. He doesn’t know how longhe sat there thinking, but somehow Alec already showered, given the wet hair andthe refreshed look. Alec’s confused eyes are staring at him. ‘Are you alright?I’ve been shouting your name at least three times, but you didn’t respond.’

‘I’m sorry…It’s been a long day.’ Magnus smiled apologetically. ‘A stressful day to saythe least.’

‘It surewas.’ Alec nods, keeping his eyes on Magnus while brushing a towel through hiswet hair. ‘And now you are going to tell me what’s really going on with you.’

‘I’m fine!’

‘You arenot.’

‘Alexander,I have no idea what you are talking ab—’

‘What areyou worrying about?’ Alec keeps going. And suddenly Magnus realizes he doesn’thave a choice here. Or he lies. Or he tells Alec the truth. And just because lyingisn’t his way of handling things…

‘I don’twant to stand between you and Jace.’ Magnus stands up while the words come out ina blur, not really realizing he said it, until after he heard his own wordsback in his head.

There’s alook of shock displayed on Alec’s face. And Magnus knows he went too far withthis. This is not the kind of boyfriend he wants to be. He doesn’t want to bejealous of something like a parabatai bond. But the worry that it might be justa bit more than parabatai killed him slowly but surely.

‘I’m sorry,Alexander. I don’t want to be- … I just-… I love you. And I don’t want to loseyou. And maybe it’s just the thought of—’

‘Stop.’Alec interrupts him. ‘Just stop the thought. Magnus how can you even think-…How can you worry about these things?!’ Alec suddenly rushes forward to takeMagnus by utter surprise and cup his face to kiss him just as passionately asthe first time they kissed. At the wedding. One of the best memories of Magnus’existence. And when Alec lets go, Magnus already longs for his lips to comeback to him. Instead Alec just holds Magnus’ face for a little longer to makehim look him in the eyes. ‘I am in love with you, Magnus Bane. God, if you would only knew how my feelings foryou are incomparable and stronger than my feelings for any other person on thisearth. You are the one I want to spend my life with. ‘A nephilim loves once,fiercely’… Remember? You are that one time love, Magnus. If you ask me that’s awhole new kind of Parabatai bond without the rune shit on it’s own. That’s thekind of bond I want to marry.’  

And withall of that said, Alec succeeded to make Magnus struggle finding his way tobreath properly again. But when he does, his hands grab Alec’s shirt to pull himcloser to him again. ‘You are good in reassuring people, did you know?’

‘Mostly I’mnot. But with you… Magnus, I can’t have you worrying about these things. I reallycan’t.’

‘I won’tanymore.’

‘Good.’

And that’s wherethey lost themselves in another kiss. This one even better than their first.

A demon attacks the loft, interrupting Malec and they must fight it off together.

‘It was okay,but I’m happy I’m home now.’ Alec responds on Magnus’ question about how hisday went. Alec just arrived into the apartment and Magnus is already setting upthe dinner table. It’s kind of funny how easy this all is. If anyone would takea peak into their evening right now, no one would guess one of them hunts demonsand the other one is a great magician, helping vampires, werewolves and warlocksas a daily job. The domestic, humanly way to set the dinner table and make thefood ready, did not fit the supernatural picture of their jobs.

‘How wasyours?’ Alec asks right back when his lips find Magnus to greet him.

‘I’m exhausted.’He sighs in response, putting the plates down as if he does not have the magicto set the table all at once. ‘Three clients, two with a big problem and one witha big attitude.’ He rolls his eyes with the last words. ‘Did not like the lastone.’

Alec’shands find Magnus’ shoulders while he’s talking. It’s amazing how Alec caninstantly feel the stress radiating from Magnus’ body. But before he’s able totake over the whole dinner thing, they both get startled by someone portallinginto the apartment. And it’s because Magnus immediately reacts, that Alec realizesthis is not an expected guest.

‘ALEC, BOW!’Magnus yells while he stands in position to use his powers and it doesn’t takelong before his first ray of magic hits the intruder. Alec has no idea who it is,but by the red eyes and the horns on the mans head, he figures this is not afriend.

By the timeAlec grabbed his bow, the demon opens his mouth and a flood of red flames comesout, directed at Magnus. And that’s where Alec has enough. His first arrow isdodged by the man. And Magnus who put a shield up against the flames, alreadypushed out balls of blue magic in order to destroy him. But somehow the demonis able to send Magnus’ magic all back to himself and within no time Magnus isthrown against the glass window from his balcony. Causing the glass to break onhim.

Alec has notime to think about how the demon doesn’t even look at him. He only has eyes forMagnus. And when his mouth opens again, ready to sends fire flames to the strugglingwarlock, Alec hits him with three arrows in the chest. ‘That’s what you get forcoming here unannounced… jerk.’ Alec mutters while the demon explodes into thinair.

And fromthe moment Alec is sure the demon is destroyed, he rushes back to Magnus who’s brushingoff the glass from his vest. ‘What the hell was that? Are you okay?’ He asks,inspecting his boyfriend from head to toe.

‘That wasthe one with the attitude…’ Magnus shrugged, while snapping his fingers torepair the window. ‘I couldn’t help him earlier today. So he got angry. I didn’texpect him to be this angry though.’

Alecs browfurrowed at the thought of Magnus handling these kind of situations on a dailybasis. If he hadn’t been here, god knows what would’ve happened. But before he’sable to worry about it, he’s distracted with Magnus’ hand cupping his face andsoftly kissing his lips. ‘Thank you for being here though. I’m exhausted and mypowers are not doing what they can do.’

Alecsmiles. ‘That’s why you are going to sit right there and let me prepare thedinner. And if anyone tries to portal in, just shout BOW and I’ll ram some arrowsin them. I’m good at that.’ He sends Magnus a wink before he makes his way tothe kitchen.

And while leavingthe room he’s sure he can hear a response coming from Magnus, warming his heart even more. ‘You’re also good at being a boyfriend, Alexander. You have no idea how good you are.’

It’s just awhisper, but Alec hears it loud and clear. The words come so unexpected, given thesituation him and Magnus are in right now, that it takes him a while to registerthem. Alec has to repeat the words back in his head to completely understandwhat they mean before he even finds a way to respond.

‘Y- you…What?’ He stammers silently while lowering his bow from the target. But in aquick response Magnus’ eyes demand him to put the bow back up. They are stillon a demon hunting mission after all, waiting for the monster to make himselfseen. Until Magnus’ decides to drop the words causing Alec’s concentration disappearinginto thin air.

‘I wantedto ask you. For a long time now.’ They are still whispering at this point, Magnus’eyes on the target while he continues. ‘I wanted to do it in a romantic way,but then I just realized that I’d rather ask you now. Because every time Ithink about losing you in the next fight, it really makes me want to tell youhow much I actually love you. So… will you marry me?’

‘What onearth makes you think we are going to lose this fight?’ Alec whispers back, tryingvery hard not to keep staring at Magnus in amazement. ‘We never lose fights.’And Alec is right, because he can’t remember a fight they lost together. ‘Youare freaking Magnus Ba—’

‘Alexander,I asked you a question.’ Magnus interrupts his boyfriend, side eyeing him. And Aleccouldn’t help but notice the sudden hint of impatience in his voice. ‘I have aring. I promise. It’s laying in the—’

‘Wait, wait,wait.’ Alec comes in before his turn, before Magnus is able to finish his sentence.‘I’m not going to answer this question when a fucking demon is about to jump us.You can ask me again when we’re home. We’re not going to lose this fight, I canassure you.’

It takes awhile before Magnus answers with a short nod. And it makes Alec roll his eyesbefore they find the target again. ‘I’m going to say yes. Don’t you worry.’

And whentheir eyes meet for just a split second, a smile is shared between the two. Bothalready thinking about their lifetime together. 

NOTE: So I know this is not your typical proposal… I’m not really into the fluffy, picture perfect romantic proposals. So I kind of did it differently. Some will like it, some won’t. But oh well! Here it is ;-)
