SMOKE SIGNALS with @kissedprint
One more sip of the liquor he’s holding in his hand, one tap to the girl in front of him on the shoulder. She turns around, and Yuchan wants to act like this is the first time they’ve met. He wants to introduce himself to her with all of the charm he has, and start this story all over again. Despite that, Yuchan’s spent nights wondering if the memories between the two of them are something that should be cherished as they are: kept away in a box similar to the one that showed up in front of the Nymth dorm with all of Hyein’s belongings. It doesn’t help that he can’t keep himself away from her.
In moments where the two of them are in front of a crowd, he could almost pretend as if there’s nothing wrong. That Yuchan could stand in front of Hyein, stare at her outline, his eyes straining through the fluorescent lights. That a reach of his left hand and his words could summon her warmth like it did before. That he’d be able to take a deep breath in, feeling his heart beat faster instead of the thumping ache– which has now turned impassive– he’s so used to feeling now.
It should be the same at the Dazed party they’re in, each corner of the room filled with all of their mutual friends, because it’s not much different to how they’ve been pretending. Having Hyein in close proximity and being able to control himself as if all they are were simply company mates should’ve been something that came easy to Yuchan now, through all of the years and activities they’ve done together to represent their company. Now, a desperate light hangs on his pupils. One flicker of passion, one flicker of shame.
“Um,” Yuchan trails off, an unsteady hand raised to greet her. “Will you–” he starts with a trembling breath. “Can you go up to the roof with me, please, I really want to talk.” Upon those words, he realizes that he can’t dream about things like these anymore. They’ll become real, if Hyein lets it, and he presses that thought close to his heart. He wants to make that commitment.

hi, idols! as an apology for the pause in operations on the main and the lack of monthly schedules, we come bearing gifts... an ask meme! this isn't the honesty hour that was mentioned a while back (as that will be used as part of our next event), but we think it'll still be lots of fun. check under the cut for all the details!
✩ [조태준] message is here!
our second ask meme will be in the form of interactions on hi-u, midas labels' very own artist-to-fan communication app, and girl talk, the exclusive communication app for girl code. the following questions, inspired by questions that idols are commonly asked by fans online and during fansigns, must be answered with your muse's public image in mind. your muse's answers do not have to be honest, but they must remain appropriate. if you do choose to have your muse respond inappropriately, there will be in-character consequences. if you're willing to take that risk, you may, but we recommend running any potential inappropriate answers by us to know what the companies' reactions would be. the goal of this meme is to explore your muses' public images a bit further, and let other muns see how they interact with their fans. you can send any of the below questions to any mun/muse that reblogs this post. you are more than welcome to send in your own custom questions, from the pov of that muse's fan (or an antifan). we do encourage avoiding sending any questions that could be deemed too inappropriate, but many idols do experience hate and inappropriate or intrusive questions on these platforms, so you're welcome to also send in questions in that vein (as long as the mun you are sending it to is okay with it).
would you rather have five [group member] or a five-year-old [group member]?

nowadays, it's getting easier and easier to find an idol's manager or stylist on social media... and we know fans can be a bit intrusive! staff members may also reblog this post, and muns may send them any of the above questions (that are applicable, of course), a custom question of their own (whether a genuine question or an intrusive comment by a fan), and/or any of the below questions. we recommend that staff muses reply to these questions as if they're really replying to a fan on social media, but if your staff member would not have a public sns account, you may answer these honestly as if they were speaking to a friend.
what's the hardest thing about your job?
what's your favorite comeback from [artist/group]?

Years of being the one to chase his friends down with a cup of water in clubs, Yuchan’s used to the weight that the guy’s voice holds. The words are drawn out, and Jaeyoon seems to be in a daze. He notices the way he shifts around, as if he’s not sure whether to stand, sit, or just walk away with an apology. Then, Jaeyoon bows, which Yuchan returns before putting his hands back in his pockets. It’s a simple exchange of formalities– but he can’t help but feel a lightness in his chest because of it.
“No worries. No need to apologize,” He replies, his tone easy. The words flow out of him easier than he expected, and it’s weird. There’s a sense of familiarity in this, but Yuchan guesses that it’s because he knows the two of them share a lot of similarities based on a Naver search he made months ago. Then, Yuchan moves closer, gesturing to the chair opposite of the one he was sitting on, the movement casual and deliberate. “You can… sit with me if you want. I’d show you my beats instead of the friend?” He repeats what Jaeyoon said earlier, a smile on his face. It’s borderline teasing, meant as a quiet invitation to ease the two of them into something a little less awkward.
Almost like he’s leading the way despite the studio being smaller (though, a notable upgrade from the tiny one he used to spend hours in at the old Ninety9 building), Yuchan takes a few steps to sit back in his chair before pushing it back slightly. “I’m Kim Yuchan,” He says when he sits down. “We can just talk, too, if you want.” The words hang in the air, fitting right in with the hazy, scattered energy of the night. He waits for Jaeyoon to fill in the empty spaces, but Yuchan’s eyes flicker to his notebook, pages cracked open to a section that he doesn’t even have to look at to know exactly what’s written there. “You write too, right? Wanna look at my notebook?” He nudges the notebook closer, almost like he’s testing Jaeyoon’s reaction before he says anything.
there's the deafening sounds of some small club he's at contrasted with the ping on his phone. the phone screen lights up, enveloping his face in some faux halo against the dark scene of the crowd — an old friend, a shared studio space: i have some beats down, maybe you could come look at it? in another world, he'd consider himself a saint — one that shrouds himself in selflessness as the soles of his feet pivot and slip past some off-tune sing-along shout to the beat of the crowd.
but one look in the viscinity of the environment and reality hits: he's far from sainthood.
there's a writer's block that can't be shaken off despite how many times he's feigned the prisoner in distress, confining himself to the walls of the studio. and there's a greater chance that 99% of the time, he'll fall into the end-of-night mere ritual of kicking his blankets, thinking of the mistakes of yesterday's goodbyes — tonight, he vows something different.
the alcohol thrums far from the beat, and he feels the heat raising from the pit of his chest all the way to curtain the surface of his skin. his wayward steps do him no good either, stumbling past each door till he finds one he deems familiar enough to open. "hey. those beats you were talking about?" and long drawl of his voice cuts quicker than when his eyes catch glimpse of someone far different than who he expects.
formalities, of course. and like clockwork his chin dips in lieu of a fourty-five degree bow. "jaeyoon. yes." his head nods in tandem, palms pressing against the open door. "don't think we've met. but i'm jaeyoon." his voice falters when his mind catches the double-dip into introductions — he'll blame that on the alcohol. "sorry. i thought this was my friend's studio. thought it could help with some writer's block." words ramble, and his eyes squeeze shut before the gentle open back into reality. a pause. "sorry — i'm rambling."
#THREAD.#UNCHARTED.#deuxblues#his notebook has some what2do lyrics that we talked abt them writing and producing tgt. do w that as u will.#sorry for taking so long!!! i went on hiatus and u r my first reply after a while... if i suck that's why.

Believe it or not, Jules’ contact number’s been saved snugly into Yuchan’s phone for a while now. Initially just sharing camaraderie upon the Ninety9 acquisition and at music shows, they’ve turned into real, actual friends after he’d worked with Haute Pink on a track. Still, it’s nothing like twenty-four hour texting or casual hangouts, because God knows Yuchan would never be able to keep up. They care for each other, though, and it’s obvious. Even if it’s from a distance.
That being said, of course Yuchan would run to Studio 801 if Jules had asked him to. Even more so if the text was kind of ominous, which it was. He’s sitting in one of the Midas studios anyways, and Yuchan’s barely gotten up to anything. It’d be better to help Jules on whatever this was instead of wasting his time. The studio he was in before he saw her text was just a few steps away, so Yuchan had rushed out with just his bottle of water in hand. When he peeks his head in after opening the door, he’s met with a bright smile from Jules. That’s good, Yuchan registers in his head. It’s not anything bad.
“Hey,” Yuchan chirps, walking in but not taking a seat beside Jules immediately. “I thought that something happened. I was kinda worried.” It’s not meant to make her feel bad, but rather for the two of them to share a laugh about how far his thoughts headed from a normal, short message that she sent. Yuchan places the water bottle on the studio desk. His arms swing beside him, and it’s clear that his awkwardness still hasn’t left him. “Uh, so, what’s up?”
Then, a track plays through a speaker. Yuchan sits down beside her, taking in the music. Jules’ voice is nice, even while being her group’s main dancer, and the song is good. It’s easy to listen to, her voice obviously goes well with it. The lyrics are somewhat vulnerable, yet playful. There’s a chunk of emptiness in it after she sings the chorus, though, and Yuchan turns to face Jules with a smile. She’s already looking at him, he finds out, and she looks expectant, yet unsure. Now, Yuchan understands what she’d asked him here for. He already sees colors, and ideas are already bouncing off his head.
Soon enough, the song finishes, and it loops for a few seconds until Jules has to scramble to press pause. He notices the way she picks at her jeans, and while he’s always thought of her as something along the lines of fearless, Yuchan realizes that they’re a little similar. “I like the song. And the lyrics, too. It fits your voice really well, Jules.” He compliments her, and he means it. Jules didn’t ask him to do anything with the empty part outright, so Yuchan decides to bring back comfort for the two of them. “And I mean, if you let me, I’d really want to feature in it. I’ll write a verse with you right now. Please?”
A gentle smile is on his face, and there’s a glint in his eyes. “Problem is, my notebook’s still at the studio I was in. Should we just… bounce off each other’s ideas before we decide on anything substantial? Let’s figure out a general theme, or something.”
i'm too bad/sad with @mymontage set sometime in december 2023
this was mildly put nerve wrecking to say the least. despite being friends with yuchan for a while now, yes, jules could actually use the word friend in its proper term, and yuchan had worked with haute pink before, it felt a bit surreal to have to ask him to come to one of the studios of the company. no actual reason no nothing, a simple text message of 'can you drop by studio 801 please?? pretty please???' and so yuchan does eventually drop by and they are now sat in silence because jules has no clue how to even approach this topic.
she is set to debut solo, everything has been promised and set, she has seen the songs, done the choreographies, started shooting and stuff. everything is in motion, but they couldn't find a feature for one of the songs on her album. how does she explain that to yuchan? for someone that doesn't shut up, jules is pretty speechless about the whole situation. she really jumped into this no plan in sight no nothing. typical, she thinks as she smiles brightly at yuchan.
"so.. can you tell me what you think about this?" and she hits play without waiting for an answer. the music starts and eventually her voice rings loud and clear through the speakers. its nothing like what haute pink has released and jules loves it, but it doesn't take long before she stops signing and there is a huge chunk of emptiness in it. which is exactly when she turns to look at yuchan with a raised brow, a bit more expectant than usual. its a new situation, the only other time they have been in a studio like this was when as a group, haute pink worked as a group for peter pan with yuchan. now it was jules herself approaching him with a request of some sort, unsure if he would understand. she feels less awkward when the song finishes, but it starts playing again and she scrambles to stop it. she isn't an awkward person, but the company hadn't been exactly helpful in finding someone to be a feature on this song, so she had to take matters into her own hands.
she srarts moving her hands, a bit of way to gather her thoughts before she speaks but also to invite her friend if he had any thoughts on it. jules was very much aware that she was making it way more awkward than she should but she's never done this before!! you can't blame her! "so.. what do you think?" she asks again, same question, different set of words and finally turns to look at yuchan, hands falling in her lap as she nervously pick at her jeans.

“Okay. That’s good.” Yuchan replies, allowing himself to let out a laugh when Daon chuckles. He’s never been the type to insistently ask about one’s wellbeing or if they’re lying about it, and Daon actually does sound completely fine. If they were face-to-face, maybe things would be different, but they aren’t. Still, the younger isn’t one of the people that Yuchan could choose to sidestep and ignore.
“What types of movies do you usually like?” Yuchan asks him, his head tilted. There’s some guilt in his throat when he realizes that he doesn’t really know Daon’s favorites, but he finds excuses to swallow it down. When Remedy still lived in the dorms, their TV was mostly left open on some cable channel save for their movie nights. He’s only started caring about film on a level that’s more than just mere entertainment a few months back, and that was when he was making his own music with a distance from Daon– avoidant attachment or whatever.
He’s excited, though, because Daon gives him the space to talk about the movie. “The director makes all of those artsy films that you’ve probably heard of. Fallen Angels? In the Mood for Love?” He lists the two off the top of his head. “Anyway, it’s a sequel of In the Mood for Love. Different vibes, though, the main guy’s just like… encountering different types of women. There’s some sci-fi parts in it, too,” Yuchan finds himself trailing off. He wants to propose watching it again with Daon, but he bites it back and saves it for some other time.
“You’d know when you wake up, don’t you?” Yuchan’s words end up coming out teasing. It usually does when he talks to Daon, though, and it’s easy to tell that he finds him endearing even now.
daon has never really felt comfortable with how sensitive he is. composure is a difficult thing to maintain; he thought that he could hold it together, but yuchan has a certain type of effect on him that only tried and true family could. a simple everything okay? pulls something to the surface: it manifests as a lump in his throat, a burning sensation in his eyes. still, he didn’t call to vent, so he refrains from giving in. “yeah! yeah, just bored,” he assures, ending the statement with a chuckle for good measure.
he reels himself back in from the ledge by thinking about 2046. the title sounds familiar, but no matter how hard he thinks, nothing much comes to mind. he finds himself wishing that he’d seen it just so they could talk about it. an empty conversation maybe, but he’s always liked to hear yuchan’s perspective on things; usually, it’s drastically different from his own.
“i don’t think i’ve seen that one,” he admits reluctantly. any other time, he’d make something up; a fake synopsis, a vague reach to seem like he knows something he doesn’t. no reason in particular, really. he’s a habitual liar, living for the thrill of being found out. but he doesn’t have the energy to do it now. he feels like it’s been so long since he’s heard yuchan’s voice in such a casual setting; he doesn’t want to listen to his own.
“what’s it about?” he wonders, leaning back on his sofa. phone to his ear, he stares at the ceiling—if he imagines hard enough, it’s like they’re back in the dorm beside each other.
suddenly, before yuchan’s had a chance to answer, it’s followed up by another question: “well, if you fell asleep, would you even know?”

Yuchan’s want for Hyein have always governed and empowered him, and both of these two things enrich the other. He’s found out that when his gaze is on her, all of the faces surrounding them seem to be blurred. It isn’t anything new that’s made itself known tonight, either. It’s been evident since training, all the songwriting camps, all the company dinners. It’s led to millions of tiny observations about her that’s made his heart flip.
“Yeah?” He says, offering her a smile. “If you want, I’ll keep the cocktail umbrella forever. In a ziplock bag. Bring it around with me as a lucky charm.” He finds his words come out teasing, as if to coax out more of the pink that’s decorating her cheeks. Yuchan doesn’t say that she wouldn’t have to give him this souvenir for him to remember her when he’s away again, for his feelings towards her comes in big, surging waves. His time touring with his members is one that’s supposed to feel like they’ve finally made it in this industry, but he finds himself going back to hotel rooms early. Yuchan’s spent the better part of his time abroad thinking about her, even if he’s too ashamed to admit to the fantasies he’s had starring her.
Too many scenarios were in his mind, where she’s had a proud smile on her face when they inevitably bump into each other at the company building, and he embraces her. The idea makes Yuchan feel warm and tingly up to his fingertips.
Now, they’re nestled together in a corner and she’s leaning against a wall. All of the scenarios and fantasies he’s had rush back to him. He wants to place a hand on her waist, wants to take a step forward and hold her so that she can press her forehead to his sternum, wants to feel her pulse point throb against his skin. Is it okay to think about things like these? Yuchan’s not dumb. He knows that there’s something there, something of substance between the two of them. He knows that he’s kept somewhere in her heart, too. But these thoughts, are they appropriate for where the two of them stand?
“That’s good.” Yuchan regards, short but genuine. He’s lucky enough to be considered one of Kevin Yoon’s favorites, and even though most of the work he’s submitted has been approved with a little help and changes, Yuchan’s seen his best friend’s work be rejected, despite all of Seoho’s raw talent. He’s seen the frustration. “Kevin’s picky,” he starts, but he’s sure that Hyein already knows that. “But I’m sure that… he really likes you. He’ll come around.” Yuchan offers. “And then we can go celebrate with the girls after your songs get accepted. Like you said, my treat,” his shoulders are slumped, as if to say only because you’re making me, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. Hyein holds so much care for them that Yuchan finds himself with a soft spot, too. “If you need any help, though, just tell me.”
“You think I’m pretty?” Yuchan says, cupping his face with his palms when Hyein stumbles over her words, aiming to tease. The joke’s on him, though, because he can only chuckle out of his own reticence when she says he looks good. Yuchan tries to think of the suave main leads in the TV series or dramas that he’s watched, but what else can he say except for the shy “thank you” he ends up mumbling?
Then, silence envelopes the two of them like a blanket. He scratches his nape, looking at her. A few beats, then Hyein finally speaks.
All of his time away had just been to serve as a build up to hear this sentence from her, he supposes. When you’re on a rollercoaster, you know it’ll drop once it reaches a certain height. You never really quite know how, or if you even can, prepare for it. Maybe that’s how Yuchan’s always pictured their relationship: right on the precipice of falling. He pictures his knuckles turning white from gripping the rollercoaster restraints too hard, but then it happens, and he lets out a breath.
Their pieces fit right back into place. He feels it in every inch of his skin, thrumming in his lips.
Yuchan gives Hyein’s hand a squeeze when she reaches out to him. He pauses, just to bask in the feeling of this. “I missed you.” He finally replies, emphasizing his words. “Uh, wanna dance with me?” With their hand in each other’s, Yuchan almost finds himself leading the way immediately. “Or would you want to, maybe, leave early instead? We can… walk around?”
hyein can’t explain it, but her heart swells at the way yuchan says “your color”. she hadn’t expected him to say that—and his sheepish observation has her questioning the implications. does he think about her whenever he sees the color red—the same way she’s started to associate polar bears and the color silver with him? she realizes she’s getting carried away. a rosy flush starts to color her cheeks and she quickly lowers her head; a desperate attempt to hide her red cheeks from him. “that’s why i picked it,” she says after a beat, slowly lifting her head to meet his gaze. a playful smile tugs at her lips; stifling a giggle. “maybe i wanted to give you something to remember me by. for when you have to leave again.”
when yuchan takes her arm and leads them away from the growing crowd, hyein swears she can feel her heart skip a beat. a rush of anticipation fills her when she realizes it’s just the two of them in this corner—nestled closely together, away from the thudding music and, more importantly, seokwoo’s prying eyes. there’s a soft smile on her lips as she rests her back against the wall, lifting her head to let her eyes scan over him. she can see him more clearly in this light—so she takes her time, lets her gaze map out every single one of his features. hyein’s always liked the slight wave his hair carries; always finds herself wishing she could run her fingers through the tousled strands. his flushed skin that her fingers ache to touch; his lopsided smile that causes the butterflies in her tummy to multiply. and the longer hyein stares at him, the greater the urge to touch and kiss him becomes—she finds herself wondering how she managed to abstain in the past.
she’s been staring at him for a while now, and the realization coaxes another scarlet flush across her cheeks. she wonders if he notices it in this light. this time, she doesn’t hide from him—not because of any newfound confidence, but because she can’t bring herself to tear her gaze away from him. he’s been away from her so long—can she really be faulted for wanting to commit this moment to memory? but she talks herself out of her lovestruck trance and gathers her composure; takes a sip of her drink before smiling up at him again; gaze remaining locked onto his. now that she thinks about it, hyein's never seen him like this before—but she likes it; likes the red flush that decorates his cheeks, likes the shy chuckles that slip past his lips, the awkward way he hugs and the way he shuffles his feet. hyein doesn't think there's anything she wouldn't like about yuchan. he asks how she's been, and she smiles. “i’ve been good. busy trying to persuade kevin to accept my songs… as per usual,” she jokes, the smile on her lips growing. “the girls are good, too. i’m sure they’ll be thrilled to see you again—or at least the meal they know you’ll treat them to.” a giggle spills out; a teasing lilt to her voice as she speaks.
then yuchan compliments her, and it takes every ounce of self-control hyein has to stifle the beaming grin that tugs at her lips. she considers telling him the dress is new; that she bought it for tonight; that she bought it because she wanted to impress him. she decides against it. "thank you," is all she manages to get out, but the smile on her lips is genuine. "you look pretty, too." she's not aware of her words until they tumble past her lips, and she laughs, flustered. "i mean... you look good. you look... really good, yuchan."
she’s staring at him again and it almost feels like her heart’s about to leap right out of her chest and burrow itself into the palm of his hand. she feels so silly; feeling like this—like a schoolgirl with a schoolyard crush; so shy and giddy in front of the man she’s known longer than she’s known anyone.
she supposes this is what it feels like—being in love.
"i missed..." the word 'you' bounces on the tip of her tongue, and she pauses momentarily to think about her next words. would saying 'i missed you' be too much? would it burden him? scare him off? did he miss her, too?
she realizes how long she's been silent and she smiles sheepishly; apologetically. she clears her throat, reaches for his hand, and decides to dive in headfirst:
"i missed you.”

CHEF’S TABLE with @corvuscanus
Most of Yuchan’s friendships are flimsy.
The excuse is that he’s busy, which isn’t a lie, for the most part. If he’s not forced into the same creative space as the other, it’s more likely than not that he’ll turn into a ghost. His closest friends are ones that he’s known from working in the studio, he realizes, and Yuchan seriously wonders if he should put more effort into deepening different relationships. He’s getting older, and he knows that most of them will be the one to turn away from him. Nobody’s going to sit around and wait for his messages all day.
After getting past this flimsiness, though, Yuchan expects a friendship that knows no boundaries– one that’s unchanging, no matter what happens in their individual lives. That’s how he is with Seoho. Years forced together within training and producing and Remedy, they’ve always been genuine. If somebody’d ask Yuchan who his best friend is, he wouldn’t need to pause to say the other’s name. So what if Seoho changed Yuchan’s standards of friendship?
His presence has become so familiar to him that the two of them can simply just coexist. Yuchan’s cooked tonight, though, and he doesn’t know how to make single servings for the life of him. Seoho ends up being the person that he calls up, and they’ve been here before. Yuchan’s on one side of the tiny dinner table in his apartment while Seoho’s on the other, their own empty plates in front of them. Laid before them are shared bowls of gnocchi bolognese and roasted vegetables.
“Eat,” Yuchan looks fondly at him, scooping up the gnocchi from the plate with his spoon. “And be honest, like I’m in Culinary Class Wars. Tell me if it’s too salty.”
Then, Yuchan takes a bite. “Have you been up to anything new lately?”

UNCHARTED with @deuxblues backdated: 2020
When it comes to producing a song, Yuchan’s greatest challenge is to not overthink every part of it. He composes, layers the sound, experiments with the audios from the sound pack he recently downloaded, and then thinks that he’s shooting himself in the foot with how instrumental he’s making his choruses. It’s a long procedure of picking and choosing and writing. It’s longer than it has to be, because Yuchan is nothing if his music isn’t tried and true.
He snaps out of it earlier this time, though. Attention stolen by the studio’s door opening in the corner of his eye, he sits up straight and puts the laptop that was previously on his lap to his desk.
It’s Kevin Yoon! It’s Cho Taejoon! It’s… Blue. Joo Jaeyoon (which Yuchan, currently high on the studio air, laughs at. Jaeyoon’s name kinda sounds like their names mixed together. It's funny.).
“Hey?” Yuchan attempts to greet him, his hands removing his headphones from his ears so that they’re placed around his neck instead. He knows about this one, but of course he does. Yuchan had made it his mission, when Remedy were a lot less successful that they are now, to know the artists that are above them: faces committed to memory like flashcards, a position written beneath each name, a conversational snippet that was overheard, or general perspectives that their mutuals or tabloids share. Still, he’ll pass it off as a question when he later asks ‘You’re Jaeyoon, right?’ with just the right amount of ambiguity.
Yuchan stands up, bowing a little. The most raw form of Kim Yuchan exists in the timeframe where he’s inside the studio– and there’s something about Jaeyoon who just stumbled in and smells of alcohol. He’s intrigued. He looks down at his watch, checking the time. “I don’t think we’ve met before, uh– do you need anything?” He continues, shifting around a little.

It’s February, which means it’s not too late to talk about Yuchan’s New Year’s Resolution. He’s aiming to get eight hours of sleep everyday, because now that Remedy’s group schedules are practically nonexistent this quarter and he’s been allowed to spend most of his time working on music, there’s no better time for self care. He commits himself to that goal so much so that he falls asleep at around eight, body curled up on his couch, a movie still playing in the background.
And like always, Yuchan thinks he woke up in the twilight zone. He’s still sleepy, his head hurts so bad, but his phone vibrates beside him. ‘Daoni 🦦💚’ is Yuchan’s tylenol tonight, it seems, and the mere thought manages to make Yuchan smile.
He doesn’t have to debate whether to ignore the call and go back to sleep or to accept it. Daon is still like a brother– even though Yuchan likes to act soooooo independent now, with Midas pushing him individually and everything, they’re sort of bonded for life. They’ve seen each other at their worst, which means Yuchan has talked Daon through multiple fears that seeped through, and Daon has spent all night comforting Yuchan from the first time he’s seen him cry.
He accepts the call, and he hears a happy greeting. Yeah, that’s Daon, but Yuchan can’t tell if that’s the same tone that he puts on variety shows: under a facade, to be all smiles. “Hey, Daon,” Yuchan replies, and there’s a smile in his voice. He wonders if Daon can sense his tiredness, like how they felt it from each other when they still lived in the dorms with Remedy and spent most mornings together. “Everything okay?” He asks, just in case. “Uh, was watching a movie but I fell asleep early– you didn’t wake me up, though. I wasn’t sleeping for real, so it doesn’t count. It’s 2046. The movie. Have you seen?”
Daon’s usually the one who’s better at moving the conversation forward between the two of them, but there’s no denying that the two have been a little distant lately, so Yuchan makes the effort. The gap, and the feeling that everything’s changing about their group can’t be ignored, but for what it’s worth, Yuchan does want to talk to him. He wishes it was like before, despite their careers going separate ways, currently. It’s no use making Daon think otherwise.
with @mymontage!
it’s 11:09pm and daon can’t sleep. he’s got too much on his mind between work, potential work and the fear of, well, never working again. it’s a strange triad of things to be balancing, and he’s aware of the fact—the overlaps and contradiction of it all are what keeps him up. his career isn’t what he wants it to be. it hasn’t been in some time. or maybe it never was to begin with; anyway, he’s no better than the average man, so he only really thinks about changing his life when he ought to be sleeping. problem is, he doesn’t really have the pull that he needs to be able to change his life.
there have been talks about the possibility of him having a solo comeback, but that’s not really what he wants. he dreams of a world where he could tell ninety9 creative that he wouldn’t release more solo music until remedy released more content as a group, a world in which anyone who really matters would care. in this world, the real one, the best case scenario is that he would be laughed at—worst case scenario, his own opportunities would be revoked and there would be nothing to show for it.
it’s 11:11pm and he calls yuchan, because what else would he do? he's not going to ask him to threaten the company (even though he knows that they'd give a fuck if yuchan were the one making threats), he just wants to talk like they used to. before things started changing, before daon started wondering where remedy fell on yuchan's list of priorities. where he fell.
“yuchan!” the chipper exclamation of his name once the other picks up acts as a greeting—it’s the way that daon almost always greets him nowadays, like he’s surprised (but thrilled) that yuchan picked up. anyway, it's a happy greeting. there is no insinuation of his frustrations or his sadness because none of it is really yuchan's problem.
“what’re you up to? i didn’t wake you, did i?”

b-cut + 22 ( what do you think your life will be like after disbandment (or contract expiry, for soloists)? would you still work in the industry or will you retire and settle down? )
Yuchan’s thought about this so many times before. The question lurks during the few minutes before he succumbs to sleep, when he has a pen in hand, when he’s learning new choreography, that the answer comes naturally to him. “I’m going to continue writing and producing for a little bit, and then I’ll settle down,” Yuchan starts, letting out a breath. What’s always clear in these scenarios, though, is that he has a family– married, probably with two kids. “But I don’t ever see myself leaving the industry completely. Maybe I’ll start an academy or something.”

That’s why you haven’t been writing shit lately, Seokwoo types to Yuchan, coupled with three laughing emojis. This is how you’ve been spending your days?
Ever since coming home from the tour, Yuchan’s been feeling a lot like a 1950s housewife no matter how many times he tells himself he’s just adapting Murakami’s writing routine. He wakes up, he makes a plate of eggs over easy, he changes linens if he finds himself sweating through them over the night, and he ends up filling the empty spaces throughout the day with cleaning his apartment. If, and only if, the inspiration hits, Yuchan will find himself sitting on his desk, pen in hand, trying to find rhymes.
It’s the same humdrum routine. He never leaves his apartment unless friends are asking him to do something with them. Yuchan’s not lonely, because he slips into phases like these sometimes. This solitude has been there since the day he turned fifteen– and he could give it a new name, could find pieces of home in it– but the coldness always feels the same.
That’s why Yuchan’s here tonight.
TLDR: His attendance at this party was kind of an obligatory one for his own sanity, but of course, it’s under the guise of reuniting with his old friends and finding something to write about. Those old friends are enthusiastic, giving him shot glass after shot glass saying that he deserves to be celebrated, and Yuchan learns tonight that he doesn’t quite know how to say no when it comes to things outside of the professional scale.
One shot in, and his whole face turns red. Two shots in, and he has to face his own unbearable need to be liked. Inebriated, Yuchan’s sensitivity seems to appear under its own spotlight. This is why Yuchan doesn’t drink. He can survive through a couple of conversations and a couple of rough pats on his back, but when someone he’s really seeking approval from comes up to him, he turns into a puddle. He feels as if he’s melting into that now, when he spots a familiar figure in the corner of his eye. It’s soon enough when he recognizes it to be Hyein, the woman that Yuchan reserves the most tender parts of himself for. He wonders if she knows that she plays this role for him.
Yuchan really thinks he’s hallucinating– shit, maybe he drank something bad. A couple blinks later, and she’s heading towards him. He’s not sure if he’s unlucky or not, because while Yuchan can feel his heart swell up and his legs move towards her well before he even registers it, he’s sure she’s never seen him in this state. Never has Hyein seen him with his walls down in this way, so red and so desperate to be liked.
“Hyein?” The two syllables drop dumbly from his mouth, and she says hi, voice soft and speaking right into his ear. Yuchan feels himself suck in a breath. He finds himself smiling, and suddenly he’s moved into action. He puts his arm over her shoulder, pulling her into an awkward side hug that lasts a few seconds before pulling away. Yuchan allows himself to breathe in the scent of her for a little bit, and he thinks back to them a couple of years ago, in Ninety9 Creative’s tiny studio. He thinks back to how scarcely he has allowed himself to breathe in, and how much it ached. Every moment they didn’t touch, how they chose instead to dance around each other and how they didn’t get to. How they had to settle with texts of very platonic and friendly support. And he comes back to the now, and how Hyein is still as miserably beautiful as the day he met her.
Growing pains. It’s as if he’s led himself to this very moment.
“Wow– it’s. Really nice to see you. I’m happy you’re here, too. How are you? How are the girls?”
He feels Hyein’s eyes on him, and Yuchan wonders if she thinks of the way he shifts in his spot as strained and self conscious, trying to arrange his body in a way that makes him look best. Is he as handsome as she remembers? Does she find him handsome? Can she tell he grew a few inches taller when he was touring with Remedy, so now she has to tiptoe a little bit higher to reach him?
Yuchan accepts the drink she hands to him. He notices the little red cocktail umbrella, and the words come out before he even realizes. “It’s red,” he feels his heart beat a little faster. “Like you. You know, your color.” He comments, and then chuckles. At himself. At how happy he is.
Yuchan’ll deal with everything else later. He takes a tiny sip of the drink she handed to him, and absentmindedly touches her arm. He leads the way to a corner, so the music is a little more muted and it’s just the two of them.
“I didn’t know that you’d be here tonight, actually. You look, um, really pretty, Hyein.”
drinks or coffee with @mymontage ca. june 2021
hyein's not entirely sure when it started.
kim yuchan has been a constant in her life for six years now. she first met him as a quiet, lonely teenager with a notebook of awkward lyrics in one hand and a worn guitar pick in the other. naturally, he became her first friend in the company: he was the one who taught her how to properly use rhymes to enchance her songwriting, the one who showed her how to use fl studio, and the one who gave her a shoulder to cry on after her first dance evaluation ended in tears.
but over time, something had blossomed between them. they sat a little closer together when they met in kevin's studio, kneecaps touching as yuchan flipped through her notebook, suggesting edits in a gentle tone that suddenly made her heart flutter. there were popsicles shared in the summer rain, hands that brushed during late-night runs to cu, and gazes that seemed to linger a little too long for "just friends".
naturally, kim yuchan had become her first love.
but before they could address the elephant in the room, nymth debuted and remedy's career had suddenly took off. their busy schedules meant they saw each other less, and most conversations between them happened only over text — but the distance between them did nothing to stop the butterflies that roamed her tummy whenever her phone screen lit up with his name.
the last time they spoke, this party came up: a small house party hosted by one of their mutual friends, a scrawny rapper they trained with for about eleven months. before yuchan had mentioned the party to her, hyein had zero intention of showing up. parties like this weren't really her thing, and she'd only put up with seokwoo because she had to — truthfully, she always found him a little obnoxious.
but she hadn't seen yuchan since he left for tour, and she wasn't sure how many chances she'd get to see him before remedy was swept up in promotions again. so, that's how she found herself here at this party — two drinks in hand, wearing a dress she'd bought just for the occasion.
(she feels a bit silly for hoping he'd notice.)
when her gaze lands on him standing near the balcony doors, the movements around her stood still for a moment — and she exhales a shaky breath as she crosses the room, the butterflies in her stomach fluttering wildly with each eager step.
there's a smile on her lips when she finally stands in front of him, a hand extended to offer the drink she'd reserved just for him, decorated with a silly little cocktail umbrella she had found while exploring the bar.
"hi," she shifts onto her tiptoes to speak into his ear, a hand resting on his arm for balance. she'll blame it on the fact that her voice is too soft to break through the pulsating music, but the truth is that she's feeling a bit bolder thanks to the shot that seokwoo practically shoved into her hands. "it's been a while."
her smile softens as her gaze studies his face, and a small flush decorates her cheeks when she shyly admits:
"i'm happy that you're here tonight."

hello! i’m val, and i’m coming in hot w three muses: yuchan, seowon (@virtuepoint sideblog), and saebi (@jennysaykwa sideblog)! super excited to be here and to present to you 1/3: kim yuchan, remedy’s main rapper with an overwhelming longing for something more. like this post to plot, and i’ll message you! ims & discord are ok!
yuchan’s the eldest brother, and it’s that that made him an idol. his little sister, yusin, has dreamt of it her whole life but she dips when some girls from her idol academy intimidate her… it’s funny how life works out.
before that, though, yuchan is clasically trained. he’s a pianist, and he’s not a natural. yuchan was boyish and clumsy but his parents basically put their two kids in the care of their piano teacher, so he was basically forced to get good…
kevin yoon scouts yuchan at one of his piano recitals, and he promises yuchan with creative freedom– being able to write and produce and sing his own songs.
truth be told, yuchan’s never been a natural at anything except for producing and writing lyrics. he takes five years to nurture the “idol” skills, and some ppl might even say that he’s the main rapper bc he’s the one that wrote the songs, but regardless…
he sits in remedy’s producer seat comfortably for a little while, until the midas acquisition happens and he gets pushed as a soloist.
yuchan starts growing as a soloist. he’s self-produced, and he’s proud of himself. for the first few comebacks, yuchan sticks to the dance-type beats, but remedy’s sound starts to change and that creates some… dissonance for him. ofc, he loves his brothers remedy, but yuchan’s found the artist that he wants to be w this push from midas…
yuchan’s about to make the shift from dance-type kpop soloist to fully khh, but he’s struggling because he knows that he’s not viewed as that within both his fandom and the public… midas is on his ass trying to persuade him to clock in solo… both sides contradict what he truly wants. yuchan is #stuck, pls humor the little successful kpop boy group soloist-producer-writer for a second :-(
personality-wise, yuchan is like a black cat looking up at u w big eyes. he’s very reserved, a little bit too serious… reminds me of this quote “and no one can figure out what you want, and you won’t tell them”
thinks rly hard about what to write in birthday cards or when he gives his albums to his peers. ends up w some “Every journey begins with a single step – well done for taking that step and all the best for your continued travels.”
wcs
younger sibling figures i think would work rly well w yuchan… mentorship, somebody that reminds him of his little sister, there’s a lot we can do w this!!
also, remedy brothers. a member who’s holding onto him or feels conflicted w him and his future or a member who’s encouraging him to go for it/come back to focus on remedy…
he’s taught u how to produce n write lyrics and soon enough u become his pride n joy n etc… people who see the similarities between him and kevin yoon and they’re like okay this is a little uncanny
ppl he’s written and produced for and everytime ur reading his lyrics u find urself w an eyebrow raised, like, is everything ok at home?
somebody the polar opposite of him, yet they work well with each other. he grounds them and reminds them to take a breather n they encourage him to pop that bubble of his…
somebody who looked up to him n is trying to Know know him for who he rly is. breaking his walls n etc.
book club!!! reading friends!!! yuchan has rly been getting into reading lately, and he’s willing to give you recommendations if you give him yours. same goes for films, too! 🤔 he’s just rly artsy and wants friends to geek out w!
ppl who have worked w him before, n thinks he’s a Pleasure to work with bc he’s a visionary and knows exactly what will make the track sound perfect… or ppl who have worked w him before and thinks. wow this guy is picky and doesn’t even bother to talk to me after the recording sessions? ok…
