tldr;

was pretty big on sports when she was younger, still is but not as much. blames her dad for always playing whatever sport she wanted, but never good enough to go pro.

she never really knew what she wanted to be when she grew up, but once she moved to seoul at the age of nine she met another girl that pretty much insipred her to become an idol.

took a lot of dance lessons because that was the easiest to get her hands on and her parents were extremly supportive of her. jules finally had something she was genuenly interested so her parents did whatever they could to get her to become a trainee.

she focused mainly on ballroom and hiphop, but started branching out as she got more comfortable.

so she worked hard and failed a lot. took her six years to get signed and thena nother seven to debut. extremely hard worker really, she was a ball of sunshine during trainee days despite being stuck in the basement of midas music for years.

things do change.. during the debut documentary, she became a bit too compeditive and not in a healthy way. more so because she trained for so long she knew she had to get a grip and get in the final line up. really she was scared she would fail and maybe actually make it time to retire the idol dream.

so that caught people's attention, that she would speak up and say stuff that sometimes was out of pocket and maybe rude, but hey... the enviroment wasn't the best ya feel. she doesn't really speak about the documentary unless forced to nowadays.

anyway, she has mellowed out infront of cameras and even behind the scenes, no more bark and bite, however she reverts to old habits when put under pressure by midas music or some tension has build up in haute pink.

she is very easy to forget, but not forgive and move on, to the point where its probably infuriating to others, but she doesn't care. she doesn't really... emotionally invest herself in a lot of things, because she is scared it will ruin thing in the long run. so with the pinks, she really just forgets bad situations have happened for the sake of working together better.

she went to therapy at one point because she just started shutting down during some days and going on autopilot and realized, that was bad. so therapy helped and she has been a lot better. some fans have noticed a different kind of spark to her.

she started vaping around that time as well, and maybe the nicotine helped but she doesn't do it often. again, if stress gets to her, old habits resurface.

the recent hate trains after her solo debut haven't helped either. to an extend she wants another solo out of spite, but she isn't sure. however, because of all the solo activities and promotions, jules has managed to show that she has really changed and matured since the early days of debut - especially her fans.

however, those closer to her can notice a change in attitude and shift in perspective with the approach of the contract renewal.

oh rihan, born nov 13 '95 in seoul. (scorpio sun / leo rising for those who care abt that).

background

rihan is eight months old when he's adopted by an affluent middle-aged couple. they're wealthy. think 'real estate as graduation presents' kinda wealthy.

rihan's the youngest of three, and since his older siblings are already excelling in their studies, he is given more leeway to pursue creative hobbies. and he does! he's in a kid's theatre group, he takes photography classes at age 6, he draws and tells grand stories he's made up to his captive audience composed of family friends.

his parents, generally very indulgent, send him off to england for his education. he attends one of those exclusive boarding schools that has him rubbing shoulders with future politicians and hollywood actors. rihan excels in their fine & textile arts program and goes for a degree in design when he graduates. he goes to uni in paris, lives with a family friend for a bit because he's too young to sign his own lease. while he's there he meets someone who secures him an editorial gig at a renowned fashion magazine. getting things through connections is a running theme for him.

around this time he also gets engaged! ...but then the relationship deteriorates (read: she was fed up with him clocking in too much overtime) and they end up breaking up. rihan returns to south korea, gets his military service done, and lands himself a job at some hotshot designer's atelier after (again, because he knows someone who knows someone). ends up working there for a hot minute... and then starts working at some other well-known entertainment company as an assistant stylist for a similarly well-known group. gets poached by ydh when sodapop's debut is near and the rest is history : )

personality

extroverted, sociable, confident in that way people are when they're raised with too much money. rihan takes his work seriously and won't take you seriously if you don't apply the same work ethic... but he sails through life with the surety that there's always going to be another door opening for him. it leads to a certain attitude: he can afford to put his foot down, because if he gets into one too many arguments with his boss he can just leave. it's not like he's got rent to pay or anything!

that said, rihan does like to (over)work. teetering towards burnout currently, but he wouldn't know what to do with himself if he wasn't clocking in so many hours. once he's off, though... he likes to indulge. those private parties your muses get drunk and hook up at? he might've hosted one of those. (sodapops aren't allowed in his tree house, sorry; he does want to maintain his professional relationships).

he's pretty easy to get along with as long as you don't work with him professionally. in another universe, rihan would've made for a pretty shrewd businessman, and you can tell there's calculations happening below the hood - he's charming, good at talking to people and has a biting sense of humour. but also: a little impatient, opportunistic, very demanding.

for sodapop: rihan's willing to hear out any suggestions and he does generally take a sort of casual approach, wherein he won't rat out anyone if he catches them vaping etc. as long as you work with him, he'll work with you in turn... but he's not willing to compromise his artistic vision, so there will always be unpopular decisions made.

high school swimming prodigy whose career was cut short after a knee injury. had to rediscover himself in his early twenties after building his entire sense of self around swimming—still in the process of finding himself but has ended up at ydh entertainment after jumping from industry to industry. golden retriever with a heart of gold, prone to making lame jokes but also strict enough to put his foot down when needed.

a talent agent attempted to scout him when he was 16, but failed to #ballislife. up until his mid-twenties, he was mistaken as an idol/idol trainee at times just due to his looks and how he carried himself—not so much anymore now that he’s almost 30…

the eldest son with two younger sisters. total mama’s boy—in part due to the fact that dad was absent often due to the long hours spent at his corporate job. lived in seoul his entire life—he may have gone abroad for brief stints in his youth for junior olympic/international swim training programs, but otherwise has barely stepped foot off the korean peninsula—at least until accompanying sodapop on their tour.

distinctly middle class—his parents would have to cut corners to make end meets and take out loans to fund his expensive swimming career and injury rehabilitation. also due to his injury, he was exempt from military service. nowadays, it’s mostly a situation where his knee hurts when it rains, or after days with long schedules.

bi, but would likely identify with demi/gray asexuality if he cared to label himself. in high school, he would have girlfriends (mostly for appearance purposes, though he did not realize at the time) and most of them would break up with him because “all he cared about was swimming”. started dating men in addition to women in college, but it eventually tapered off when he started working, at which point “all he cared about was his career”. his lack of dating interest could be yet another a reason why ydh tapped him for idol management.

want to keep this list relatively short for realism, but exes. since starting at ydh, kijung does not date talent, so if your muse is an idol it should have been before kijung or your muse worked in the entertainment industry (on kijung’s end, this would have been 5+ years ago). i imagined most of kijung’s relationships would have fizzled out due to a lack of passion, especially on kijung’s end, but i’m open to something that ended more messily or “the one that got away” if the personalities fit.

former coworkers. i kept kijung’s work history vague on purpose (aside from a restaurant manager job) but whether it was a part-time convenience store gig in high school, some internship in college, or anything before kijung ended up at ydh… idk this is rlly niche but it could be fun!

hi everyone... are you surprised..... this is unfortunately esti [ the brain behind the disasters @honeyhues @orchidstains @fallenegos ] and unfortunately for you all, i'm entering the #fourth muse club. i have no defense for this move so i guess we're all just going to have to accept it. but let's focus on my new muse. there arent enough words in the dictionary to describe this muse but she's my firstborn daughter despite being the last muse im bringing... my baby ahn jinri. some people may have seen this muse before or the many variations she has taken over the past two-ish? years or so, but she's one that i cherish deeply. (if you remember this muse. no you dont. the thought of anyone remembering me/jinri actually scares the shit out of me actually... but tell me if u do i love reminiscing <3) i hope you all love her as much as i do bc if you hate her that means you hate me bc she's essentially me. and no i wont explain what parts specifically. this means im taking everything u say about her personally (/j /j /j NO IM NOT. IM LYING.)

born february 15, 1995. jinri's life wasn't dramatic or unusual. if anything, it was quiet. a little lonely at times, but not in a way that hurt. her parents were workaholic professors, both of them. brilliant and loving, but always pressed for time. their affection came in scribbled notes left on the fridge, hands on her shoulders before dawn, and the way they always remembered the details even if they weren't always around for the moment. it was her grandmother who raised her, in practice. jinri found herself fond of everything involving her grandmother. she noticed everything... like the way her grandmother's hands moved when threading a needle or how a perfectly tied ribbon made a plain outfit feel complete.

jinri spent most of her time reading, coloring, or quietly observing her surroundings. she liked structure. she liked routines. and she loved clothes because of the silent way they can tell a story. her grandmother's cardigans, her mother's pressed blouses, the first dress jinri ever tore a hole in, she remembered them all.

in school, jinri didn't chase popularity. she wasn't the girl everyone wanted to sit next to. she was the one who diligently studied, but would quietly adjust her classmates' collars before photos because she couldn't stand seeing things look unpolished.

that being said, she hated being seen more than necessary. hated when people asked too many questions. but she loved watching how people wore things. like, how nervous students clutched their sleeves during presentations, how some kids pulled their hoods up like armor. she began sketching those details. the shapes. silhouettes. that's mainly how, to jinri, fashion wasn't all about style to her. it was about observation. how clothing changed depending on who wore it. how a jacket sat differently depending on someone's mood.

she started assisting with school events, organizing costume fittings, even hand-sewing a few pieces for others. eventually, she applied to the fashion & textiles department at seoul national university. she didn't talk about it much and still doesn't.

college was the first time jinri felt like she had a name people remembered because she was good. sharp. focused. she took every class seriously and worked part-time jobs on the side, whether it be retail, tailoring, or backstage at local fashion shows. she did anything that kept her close to the work for experience. she didn't care about becoming a big name designer or getting her own fashion house in teh future. she just wanted to be in the room when a vision became real and be responsible for turning a sketch into something wearable.

after graduation, she worked freelance. she styled smaller artists, assisted on shoots, packed garment bags at three in the morning, stitched buttons in moving vans. the hours were long, the pay inconsistent, but she didn't mind. she liked the silence of backstage. the intimacy of getting something just right. when she finally got a position at midas on the styling team, she was assigned to phaze, who at that point were already known more for their chaos than their aesthetic. people warned her, but she didn't listen.

to jinri, a job is a job. she studied phaze. listened to their music, and tried to get a good reason on their personalities (the public ones). the following years were a blur of schedules, fittings, last-minute changes, and creative compromises. but jinri found her rhythm quickly. in jinri's opinion, phaze's styling had improved dramatically under her eye, though it has been a hit or miss with fans.. but with particular praise coming in during their ice on my teeth era, jinri isn't too worried about having fuse creating petitions to get her fired.

but the job always came with pressure. she was expected to work miracles in little time. expected to fix problems that clothes cannot necessary fix. she didn't mind the weight of responsibility, but only when it was realisitic. she also hated the silence that came when something went well, but how everyone starts pointing fingers when something didn't land.

the pressure stopped getting to her like it used to. she's still meticulous. still adjusting outfits seconds before a stage. still the one with emergency thread kits and back-up shoe options in her tote. but she smiles more now and is a little more pleasant to work with.

sometimes fans catch her in the background of company content. having been with the company for a few years, she's become a recognizable staff. but. they still don't know much about her outside of her face, name, and her occupation. she doesn't care about the spotlight that comes with working in the entertainment industry.

PUBLIC IMAGE (what people who work with her see/what fans feel)

you either love her or you don't get her. there's not much in between when it comes to ahn jinri. some applaud her for her contributions to phaze's style evolution, but there are plenty who still roll her eyes if her name's mentioned due to a past styling choice. and at this point in her career with phaze, that reputation almost feels intentional. she's built somewhat of a signature without ever stamping her name on it too loudly, which, ironically, only made people talk more. despite the noise around her, no one can say she's untalented. her eye for detail is unmatched.

for the longest time, jinri kept her world small. she didn't talk much outside of work. she styled phaze and then went home. she just sees herself as someone with a lot of ideas and the drive to make them real. she refuses to be boxed in by other people's expectations, and is very stubborn when it comes to her visions.

what the public sees is a filtered, toned-down version of her. deliberate. quiet. almost boring, at first glance, which exactly how she likes it. it keeps the attention at bay. people think they know her. they don't. she's protective of her personal life to the point of near-complete mystery. fuze had tried to pry into her personal life when she first joined the team, but didn't get far. her pre-stylist years are pieced together only through classmate hearsay. she’s done everything she can to keep herself, her family, and the past out of the spotlight.

PRIVATE (deeper dive into what she's like)

these days, jinri comes off a lot more approachable than she used to. she's still a little... hard to get to know. but she's not as closed off as she once was. if you make the first move, she's perfectly capable of carrying a conversation, especially when it's light or work-related. small talk isn't her favorite thing, but she's learned how to navigate it when needed. mostly, she sticks to what she knows... whether it be familiar people, familiar cafés, or familiar routines. she likes to keeps things predictable because it's safe.

i'm sorry to anyone who wants to be her friend because she's also hard to reach. like, don't bother unless you're saved under her emergency contacts. her phone is always on do not disturb, and is notoriously slow to respond. texts may often get left on read, sometimes for days. honestly, she just forgets, gets distracted, or mentally replies without ever typing it out. and phone calls are worse. she'll get back to the texts eventually... at some point.... but the best way to catch her is face-to-face.

still takes work way too seriously. it's a problem she openly acknowledges but hasn't fully solved. she loathes the fact that she spends so much extra time working these days bc she fears she'll become burned out. but still cant step away from whatever she's doing once she starts. she blames it on her parents' influence because she'll spend hours obsessing over hemlines or color coordination, then act like it was normal for her break to be pushed back an hour because a zipper wasn't laying flat. perfectionism in her styling process means late nights before shoots, handwritten notes in garment bags, and fully sleepless fittings if something's not up to her standard.

[alcoholism TW] jinri's always liked drinking. in her off-hours, a glass of wine or two was a reward, a quiet nightcap after a long day. but somewhere along the line, that habit got darker. long periods of inactivity or creative limbo are the most dangerous. she drinks privately, always, and very few people have picked up on the full extent of it. it's the kind of vice that's easier to manage when she's working nonstop. so it's kind of a dilemma... and a reason why she doesn't really take breaks or days off. if any of the phaze members are working, she is too.

when it comes to people, jinri is more on the blunt side. painfully so at times. if you come to her with a problem, she'll give her opinion unless you state you want to just vent or something. she wants to fix things, not dwell in them. she also doesn't mean to be insensitive at times, but she has limits, especially when she's already stretched thin. juggling her own issues alongside client chaos and production pressure leaves her little room for vague emotional messes. and when she's overwhelmed, her opinions tend to come out a little sharper than intended.

beneath the dry sarcasm and resting exhaustion, she really does care. once you're in her circle, she'll have your back without question. she might get on your nerves with her strong opinions and very little patience for nonsense, but she doesn't flake when it matters. she just… needs space sometimes.

but as i've said before... she's hard to get close to. she doesn't like being around a lot of people (which i find funny) she's learned how to navigate crowded rooms and chaotic sets, but left to her own devices? she'll always choose the quiet corner, the empty dressing room, or the back of the van with her headphones in. it takes time to earn her trust, and even more time for her to let anyone see past the professionalism. but once you do, she's surprisingly soft. just not loudly so.

she's not perfect, and she knows it. she's been working on herself quietly for a while now. setting boundaries. pausing before speaking. learning when not to fight. the cracks still show when she's tired or pushed too far, but she's gotten better at not letting her worst days dictate how she treats people.

basic plot ideas? idk i prefer brainstorming, but i put some obvious starter ones below... and i'll get more in-depth ones up on a plot page eventually....

creative friends. the ones outside of her emergency contacts that she's most likely to text back. whether they're in fashion, choreography, or songwriting, jinri loves people who think deeply about their work. she'll stay quiet for 90% of the conversation, but she'll be invested. might even drop one question that makes you explaing your entire creative process. if a real friendship comes out of it? even better. these are the people she lets into her studio, shares early drafts with, and actually listens to for a bit of inspiration when she's stuck.

close friends. somehow, somewhere, it just clicked. maybe they didn't talk much for months but slowly became a regular part of each other's lives. these are the people jinri lets see her on her worst days, and the only ones who can get away with calling her out without getting iced out. i dont want to go as far and say jinri might consider these people her comfort people, but..... might be relatively close

casual friends. acquaintances she respects. people she nods at across the room or makes quiet conversation with while waiting for the next run-through. she doesn't offer much at first, but if the vibes are right, she might slowly start tacking on the rare "friend" label. these are the people she's not opposed to grabbing coffee with if their schedules line up.

phaze members...... look there's a lot of room for any dynamic. maybe a member hates how she styles them, maybe one tried to suggest something and jinri immediately said no. maybe someone pissed jinri off one time and she retaliated by putting them in the something she knew they wouldn't like. maybe they actually get along and somehow one became her favorite member to dress. the opportunities are endless.

people that inspire her. though she is picky with this option. i think she'd get be more inspired by they clothing they choose to wear themselves and how they carry themselves in it. mostly gravitates towards people with complex personalities for this one so she doesn't get bored/doesn't end up finding the other person predictable.

listen. relationships past and present are gonna have to be chem-based and heavily plotted because i think jinri's would be select and few with how far she has a stick up her ass and is kinda hard to get close to. and the fact she busies herself with work... yeah i'm just picky in general with jinri.

byeol was born in seoul, south korea to a financially stable family & lived a pretty ordinary childhood, all things considered. dad has a very high-paying job, mom takes care of the home, & later on, her older brother became a celebrity. altogether, a pretty sweet & comfortable existence. sure, she had some run-ins with people who didn't understand her, but her firmness never subjected her to any bullying. in fact, many of her peers considered her something of a bully to all of them.

her multiple runs as class representative / class president throughout elementary & middle school weren't well-received by her peers, & despite being on-top of things in other ways, they still excluded her; finding her personality rather mean-spirited & judgmental, instead of magnanimous & supportive. in retrospect, she understands why, but at the time, she hated feeling so ostracized.

she found her tribe in america after she moved there to study abroad, solidifying herself as someone who leads, & leads well, all while being lauded for her hard work & cleverness. she hated to leave after only two years there & fully intended to go back, but was scooped up by ydh entertainment shortly after she graduated. she was fast-tracked to a debut in angelix, & has enjoyed a rather lovely career that's spanned the length of an entire decade now. it's been ten years of performing aegyo & girlifying her every action, & though this more than pays her bills, she's wondering if she'll be stuck in this state of girlhood for the rest of time.

there is nothing park byeol loves more than satisfaction. this takes on many forms to her. whether it's enjoying the feel of wearing clothing that's been perfectly steamed, or piecing together a perfectly well-balanced meal, or landing a punch-line at the perfect moment, or even watching cleaning compilation videos that are perfectly manufactured to ease stress, she can't help but obsess over a job well done, & what's more is that she realizes that she needs to put in work in order to attain this same level of bliss over & over again, & she's often able to attain it due to how much effort she puts into literally everything she does.

if you couldn't already tell, she strives for perfection, & will stop at nothing to ensure that she gets as close to it as possible in all that she does.

people are sometimes shocked to discover that she's actually rather kind because she can be so harsh to herself; her self-critiques coming out in her self-deprecating sense of humor, or her ability to play a rigid 'producer' role for herself & her idol persona.

the people who are completely fooled by the sunny warmth of bitna are even more shocked to peel back the veneer to get a glimpse of who byeol is. you can walk up to her off-the-clock expecting to be greeted with aegyo & whimsy like the screens suggest, only to then receive a shy smile paired with a chilly aura & eyes that dig into your soul. oh, & don't be shocked if she tells you something is wrong with your outfit, or your hair, or if she gives unwarranted advice to you. it may seem rude & uncouth, but she's genuinely trying to be helpful.

she isn't trying to intimidate you, but often does by accident. if she aims to impress you, she often uses her power to win a person over knowing that, if she's allowed into someone's life, she'll stop at nothing in order to make it better / easier for them. byeol loves cleaning up a mess, especially if the mess is made by others. it's one of the many ways she proves herself valuable. sometimes this comes across a little strongly & she'll insert herself into your problems to help you fix them without you asking her to, but she does come from a place of good intentions with this, even if it's bothersome.

speaking of cleaning up messes, she finds herself attracted to men who aren't exactly perfect, despite her own desire for perfection. if he's an uncut gem, she'll gladly polish him into a diamond. there's 'i-can-fix-him' tendencies at play here, but above all, she realizes that her personality is best when she's able to lean on her meticulousness & resourcefulness. if on date two you tell her your favorite meal, she will learn how to make it perfectly for you & stun you on date 3. if you mention that your shoulders are hurting after a long day of work, she'll figure out how to massage the unease away. she's a laborer, even in her relationships, as she knows they take work to thrive.

this is extended to her friendships, as well. she gives strong big sister energy, even if she's younger than you are. byeol is the woman you go to if you have a problem. she will figure out how to fix it & help you in ways that others may not. she's fiercely loyal like that. if you earn her trust & love, you'll have a friend in her forever. she may make herself hard to get to know at first, but it's because she wants you to earn her loyalty & trust. she doesn't give it out freely.

hyeseong was born and raised in seoul, south korea as the youngest of three children. he has an elder sister and elder brother neither of whom he is particularly close with because he was truly treated as the baby and prince of the family by his parents. his father is some high-powered executive in a large corporation while his mother is a known political figure. as such by proxy of his parents, he's no stranger to the media itself.

unlike his siblings he's more free to do what he wants and pursue what he wants. of course he still has to get good grades in school but they don't have a set life path for him as they do for his elder siblings. over the years he goes through a myriad of different hobbies, some of which are quite expensive and a lot of which he drops quickly when he becomes uninterested.

he was taken care of nannies a lot when he was a child because of how busy his parents were in their careers. more often than not they give him money when he's seeking affection or attention and through that he becomes quite spoiled. though he can never quite get over the starving for physical affection that would continue to affect him as as he becomes an adult.

he eventually finds a hobby to stick with when he is gifted a guitar when he is about ten years old. with a very expensive tutor he learns to play the guitar and becomes increasingly interested in music and the korean music entertainment industry.

while still in school he makes the decision to pursue a career as an idol and ends up auditioning for csj entertainment (midas music) and gets accepted as a trainee around the age of sixteen. there were rumors that at some point spread among the trainees that his parents had helped in securing his spot as a trainee but hyeseong never let it bother him and worked hard during his training to show that he wasn't just there because of that and that he actually had talent and to surprise of a few that he was actually a hard worker.

during his time he ended up gravitated towards rapping, though by no means are his vocals not up to par for the group, they are, but rapping seemed to be something that came to him quite naturally and with a push he decided to focus on it and hone his rapping skills.

barely a year of training and the company surprises him when they want him to go on a competition show, show me the money 3. essentially a show where he'll compete against other rappers, both newbies like himself, and more seasoned veterans. he's not even debuted yet, but decides to go along with it and though he doesn't win he ends up a semi-finalist and makes quite the impression.

it earns him a fanbase that supports him when he competes on nu phase with team a. his time on show me the money 3 makes him not as nervous about nu phase and when his team wins on the show, hyeseong debuts as the main rapper of phaze and goes by the stage name eden.

since their debut hyeseong has been pretty involved, he's done some songwriting and production when allowed on b-sides, he had his solo debut in 2019 which was well-received and his solo fans especially loved. periodically he's also been putting out digital singles that aren't promoted as well as becoming more involved in fashion with photoshoots, brand deals including his current big one with balmain as well as attending fashion week in paris before. he's been working a lot but he doesn't mind it one bit.

personality

hyeseong is definitely outgoing, kind of a loud person and very spontaneous when it comes to his decisions and can change his mind on something at the drop of a hat. he likes to have fun and enjoy himself and is definitely the type to take you on adventures when he's feeling up for it, even if you aren't. he can be a bit reckless and act before he thinks but he's trying to be better about that, especially when it comes to work things. but is also a really stubborn person and when he gets stuck on something it's hard to change his mind or dissuade him from something. he is truly a hard worker but he does have a rebellious streak and will go out on the town, party, drink, and/or sleep around because why not, it's not like he's gotten in terrible trouble for it. not an overly mean person or anything but can be a little spoiled and haughty at times, you know grew up a rich boy and baby of his family.

plots

friends he's been close with since they were trainees, it's fine if they are from a different company but they trained around the same time and bonded through the process.

a partner in crime, arguably his best friend in the whole world who doesn't mind getting into fun/trouble with him. will totally encourage in it and they are as thick as thieves.

an on again off again ex, open to either gender cause he's a bi boy. a toxic relationship? they get back together, they fight, they break up, they make up, and so on and so forth. for some reason they just can't stay away from each other.

some gaming buddies? he plays mostly competitive games like valorant or league of legends, so when there is down time they could maybe play together?

party buddies? people who go out with him when they're not supposed to the clubs in town and risk getting into trouble.

background

hyukjae grew up decently well-off. his dad was a tech entrepreneur at the head of a quickly growing young company, so they lived in a nice apartment and baby hyuk got any new toy he wanted. they certainly weren't outrageously wealthy, but they lived very comfortably and often ran in circles with those significantly wealthier who invested in his dad's company.

his parents sent him to study in toronto for 6 years when he was 8 and he flourished there. he adapted quickly and was happy there despite rarely ever seeing his family. when he was 14. he was unceremoniously pulled out of school in canada and brought back to korea.

his dad had been caught embezzling and defrauding investors and hyukjae was thrown back into a family in disarray. if the shame wasn't bad enough, lawsuits drained their bank accounts and his dad ended up going to prison for a couple of years. in the wake of his arrest and imprisonment, hyukjae's family began to struggle financially for the first time.

to help support himself and his mom, hyuk started modeling for catalogs and online shopping malls to try to make extra money for his family. as he focused on that, he started to prioritize work over school. on top of poor attendance and grades, he was getting in trouble for fighting and smoking on school grounds. he managed to graduate (and legally change his surname to his mother's) and planned to try to go international with his modeling career, but someone in the modelling industry suggested he audition for midas (then cjs) and he did.

midas (cjs) saw something in him—probably a pretty face and natural charisma— and he changed paths to idol trainee. being an idol hadn't ever been a dream of his, but debuting under such a successful idol company was a much better guarantee for success and money than trying to hit big in modeling.

he adjusted well to idol training. harsh words and scrutiny toward his looks and skills weren't anything he hadn't gotten used to working as a model, and his willingness to do just about anything to succeed served him well in such a competitive environment. though not the most musically talented trainee, he got into a team on nu phase through sheer hard work (his visual potential certainly helped).

he debuted in phaze and got a little addicted to the headrush of their fame and success. he was almost immediately given the chance to use his modeling skills again in runway shows, magazines, and ad campaigns. in addition to being praised for his visuals from debut, he became a presence in the fashion scene and grew into a style icon.

when the attitude scandals hit phaze, hyuk's past 'iljin' behavior in high school came up alongside accusations of general rude backstage behavior such as arrogance and smoking indoors. midas worked their magic and it was pretty much forgotten.

a few years into phaze's career, hyukjae responded to his dad's attempts to contact him for the first time in years. he claimed to be in a desperate situation due to some "brief" "former" illegal gambling. in what he now considers a moment of weakness, hyuk met with his father and some of the people he owed money to assure them he'd help his dad pay back the debts. well, that money never made it from his dad's hands to the right people's, and they ratted out hyuk's dad and hyuk himself for illegal gambling and (more) fraud.

as you can imagine, the fraud and illegal gambling headlines didn't go over well. it was by the grace of god (midas) that the story got sugarcoated; hyuk claimed ignorance of any gambling but promised to pay back his father's debts. another miraculous save by midas pr.

he's doing well now. phaze is as successful as ever, he's made a solo debut, and everything keeps looking up. and what has he learned along the way? not much!

generally acknowledged for two things, his visuals and his style, and the second functions as an extension of the first. these combine under a kind of 'model' mythology in his image and fans love to exaggerate the success he had pre-debut to act as though he'd be a supermodel if he wasn't in phaze. (he wouldn't have; his looks lend themselves much more to idol visual than editorial model.)

some phrases to describe his image: effortlessly charismatic, it boy, luxury & wealth, cool, heartthrob

he's much more mysterious in image than parasocial. fans mostly project whatever personality they find sexiest or coolest onto him. he interacts with them exclusively through thirst traps. all is well.

from his narrative skeleton, he's considered the face of the group. his image progression has generally reflected the group from this. see phaze's change from more in-your-face to more luxurious and hyuk's change from gucci to dior as brand ambassador.

if a hyuk fan gets in a fanwar, they're going to be called a visual stan. they shoot back with a tiktok edit. they lose the war. (the hyuk tiktok edit economy goes craaaazy though... at least he's got that.)

personality

hyukjae lives by the work hard, play hard philosophy. he's a workaholic and will make work for himself if there isn't anything else. off-the-clock, you'll usually find him partying in one way or another. his clubbing is an open secret that really only his most delusional and puritanical fans deny.

also a bit of an adrenaline junkie. there's nothing like something that could kill him.

incredibly driven/ambitious, which is a side of him his fans aren't as familiar with. outsiders tend to see all of his schedules as jobs falling into his lap, which does happen to some extent thanks to his status via midas/phaze, but is also very much a product of how hard he works his ass off and his willingness to push himself to the breaking point for work.

in the same vein, he was not afraid to do what he had to do as a trainee to debut—he saw it as something he had to make happen. he's a lot less cutthroat now, especially with phaze members since he considers the group important to him, but he's willing to play dirty in high-pressure situations.

he's also very prideful. he sees his pride as rightfully earned and protected, but those less fond of him may call it arrogance (and they have).

as you can imagine, he has some daddy issues. he's determined to never be like his dad, but, honestly, in his mission to make a better name for his family and provide financial stability for himself and his mom, he's set himself up to walk in his father footsteps... obsession with power/fame, breaking the rules to get what he wants, floating by by constantly having his tracks covered. we'll see where that gets him.

he'll do anything for those he truly cares about and doesn't stop caring about someone all that easily (see: him still getting in a mess for a father he'd cut off). but he also holds grudges with a terrifying intensity.

one or two of his closest friends who were by his side during the scandal with his dad. he doesn't talk about it much, so having confided in them would have forged a strong bond in his eyes.

gym/sports/active friends. they could work out at the gym together or be rock climbing, boxing, skateboarding, basketball, or running buddies.

he's an only child, so sibling-like connections could be fun for him. he's among the older end of the age range at the moment, so probably younger muses he looks after, but any muses older than him who he looks up to are also welcome.

a childhood friend from daegu or toronto (or even elsewhere, but whose family ran in tech business circles for some reason) who knew him before everything changed and then they ran into each other years later. alternatively, someone who went to high school with him in seoul when he was skipping class, ending up in fights, and getting in trouble regularly who stills sees that in him (for better or for worse).

people he burned/made a bad impression on as a trainee or after he debuted. as mentioned, he's very prideful and willing to feed into a cutthroat environment and he has no doubt hurt people in the process, whether they've healed their relationship from that by now or not.

a former close friend who got exhausted of his intensity. they got along well at first because they found their differing personalities intriguing, but it's always full speed with him, from work to play to friendship and sometimes they needed him to be willing to slow down for whatever reason. he didn't take that well and saw it as a fault of theirs and they had a messy fallout as two people who needed different things from their friendship.

people who don't like him much because he seems arrogant. people he doesn't like because he thinks he sees some trait he doesn't like in them (unloyal to friends/family, lazy, overly stuck-up)

i really like the idea of an on-off romantic relationship where they're more together because they like the idea of each other and being together and what that symbolizes rather than true love between them. they may genuinely care for/be attracted to one another, but it really wouldn't have gone on (and off) this long without a sort of mental mythology they've created around themselves.

there's a lot of room for past hookups and flings*. ideas among those: they hooked up once and never spoke again; they hooked up and became good friends (either completely platonic or they still hook up on occasion); they hooked up and one of them caught feelings and it went down in flames; they hooked up years ago when he was a trainee and hyuk is pretty sure they did but not 100% and now they're having a conversation and he's too afraid to ask because that seems rude; a past relationship that burned hot but fast; a past relationship that ended because they liked hyuk more than he liked them; a past relationship that ended because hyuk liked them more than they liked him (devastating for him); a past relationship with unresolved feelings.

(*hyukjae's sexuality is self-unlabeled and self-uninterrogated but he sleeps and flirts with any gender, but he has probably only had serious relationships with women up to this point in his life)

he's a flirt; fun flirtationships that aren't really anything more.

he also has features open on his solo album, released january 2024, on ufo (female vocal), stay up (male rapper), and mia (female rapper & male vocal). this can be plotted independently or combined with anything.

he could also feature on others' songs. generally, he's most fitting for rnb, hip hop, or some pop songs with fun/sexy/flirty concepts. ballads or particularly sentimental songs don't fit his image, unfortunately.

1996 busan born, her mother ran a private daycare for neighborhood kids and her father worked 2 full time jobs. she had 3 younger siblings and then like 10 random kids on her block that she spiritually adopted as her siblings by the time she was 12. (even to this day she loves kids so much she's such a dork about kids, and emotionally adopts anyone even 3 years younger than her.)

she wanted to run track and field in school. she was very social and cared for, but it wasn't quiiiite enough for her. busy body, stand on the top of the playground and yell about how she's the king of the world at the sky type.

luckily, at a local festival she and some of her friends sang trot and danced and yerin's ability to whip the crowd into a frenzy was enough to get her scouted.

fast forward many long (whiny, annoying baby girl with a big dream) conversations with her very overworked parents later and off she went to become an idol.

it was never about being famous for her. it was just about the adventure of it all. going, doing, anything more than average.

after a few years of training she got dropped in as leader for angelix and the rest was history.

angelix's image doesn't really suit her, not even back then and certainly not now that she's older, but she has a bright personality (at least as an idol she does), so it was always enough to get her a pass.

except after making many casual, crude/unkind comments between 2022-2023 about anything from uncle fans to the company rules to having to flirt to be noticed or liked-- many fans have began to think she's quite disrespectful, doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut. not the sort of tact a leader should have, certainly not for the angel group.

she's totally grounded now 😔all of her activities have slowed down, and she's spent over a year, closing in on 2 years, basically only being at group activities and almost nothing else (a big change from her former activities).

not only that, where before she was outgoing, funny, a variety type through and through (both on activities and even amongst her members, she was known for being bright and taking care of them, being loud and sweet), now she has become considerably more mellow. she went from a 10 on the volume scale to a comfortable 6.

she doesn't know how to be what she thinks she needs to be. and not only that, she feels like she's let her group down. after siah (this is a topic that should not be approached with her, it will make her cry in broad daylight), she fears what will happen to her group. whether they'll stay together, whether she's helping them to stay together or further driving them apart.

she's going through a painful growing phase right in the public eye, and it's leaving her feeling a bit silly and afraid of her own shadow. being the sort of person who speaks without thinking had never burned her so bad before. she has to learn how to manage that.

she has a fair bit of ! cw for anxiety ! likely to pop up in her posts, as she's struggling quite badly with barely checked anxiety for the last 2 years.

essentially, a woman of much duality, both a very playful and kind person who loves to uplift others, and also a painfully hard on herself, anxious person who doesn't think people will accept her as she is? most of her threads from her pov will strongly feature the dynamic of how she always seemed (and really was in many ways), and who she is becoming, and how she's making amends with that?? (poorly, badly, terribly)-- what of it is real and natural and what's a breaking down of her or inability to overcome stress/anxiety/fame itself?

hey everyone, i'm sunny (she/her)! super excited to join with oh daewon aka wonil, a ydh soloist (and troublemaker, apparently). he's been pushing ydh's boundaries (re: buttons) since 2018, so i'm looking forward to seeing him develop further! i've got an overview of his background below, but for more info, you can also check out his file, bio, and career, as well as a few plots. there are more plot ideas below, and i'm happy to brainstorm connections, so please hmu or give this a like if you're interested! <3

pt. i — background, tw for brief mention of illness, and death

born in yeosu, but if you ask him about it, he doesn't have much to share save for a few impersonal details, like the views on the water or the slow-paced life. it's enough to make evident that he's glad he's here than there, but to give the run-down he won't: daewon had a very typical, modest upbringing.

his parents worked a lot, as they had to, and he was a good kid; excelled in his classes, helped around the house, and never complained. though, naturally, he always wanted more for himself. the idea of living the same life as his parents—well, let's just say it gave rise to many complicated (and unresolved) feelings.

so, he moved to london to live with his aunt when he was 12/13 with the initial idea of going to med school. he only returned at 19 when his dad got very sick, and then just... never went back. did his military service, got scouted (in uniform, mind you), started training, and the rest is history.

his dad has since passed away, so it's just him and his mom now, but he hasn't been very attentive in visiting her, tsk tsk.

pt. ii — training and career

it wasn't always the plan that daewon would debut as a soloist, but he was very diligent with all aspects of his training; never easing up or letting his exhaustion outwardly weigh on him—even though he was an older trainee. you could say he's a bit of an all-rounder as a result (just don't make him rap lol).

as for his debut, while daewon didn't have a strong foundation (nor an interest) in music to start, he did have a very clear vision of how he wanted his music to express him, and thankfully, ydh was on board. he's quite particular. in that respect, wonil's sensual image and sound is as much a credit to him as it is to ydh.

that said, though, i don't think daewon fully appreciated exactly what he was getting himself into and just how rigid ydh's rules are—or how serious management is about enforcing them, and that's lead to some... issues (re: scandals—yes, plural). but! it seems like the relationship is still going strong since daewon doesn't have any plans of stopping or slowing down anytime soon (maybe music truly is his calling).

although he's been especially interested in the production of music and has developed that skill further, i'd actually say he's his strongest during his concerts. it's a melting pot of creativity, and he gets a whole lot more influence on the choreography, song transitions, mood, etc (tldr; you should catch him on tour).

pt. iii — personality

overall, daewon's relaxed and friendly—it's easy to be comfortable in his presence. he's polite, polished, and professional, but as you get to know him, his personality reveals to be very sarcastic, disarming, and confident. he's got a bit of an ego, tbh, and sometimes he can be a little insensitive, but he (mostly) has good intentions, and is at least (mostly) genuine, so you know what you're getting is (mostly) real. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

to elaborate further in a series of will's and won'ts: will know how to change your tire, but won’t show up to do it without a lil tit-for-tat. will latch onto the smallest tension in a room with slight intrigue, but won't act on it. won't remember your birthday (sorry), but will remember that time you mildly ticked him off.

pt. iv — plots

as someone that likes to be very practical, his attempts to articulate his feelings often lends to a clenched-jaw and stiff tongue—like a child, he's bad at expressing all its syllables and sounds. all you make out—if you make out anything at all—are vague highlights: that he's good, or he's tired, or he's interested. so, it'd be nice to have some people who just get him; an easy presence, or someone similar.

he can also be quite self-serving. it's not malicious or anything, but just an instinct to put his best interests first. though, maybe the consequence of always acting on that instinct has scarred the relationship between him and your muse. on the flip side, maybe it's an approach they appreciate since they can comfortably rely on it.

those that share his enjoyment of a drink and a smoke. maybe he has a few too many vices and is too comfortable leaning into every desire. and sure, maybe he's just bordering a problem, but the bottom line is that he's not there yet, and in the meantime, he loves a good crowd, which includes your muse.

artists he's worked with before—either those that have featured on his tracks, or those who have produced some of his music (left many credits open cause he loves working with people on this). maybe they can work on an upcoming project together, or this time he can return the favor and feature on your muse's music.

background

tw: abandonment

seungjae’s birth parents left him at an orphanage when he was 4 years old. he never understood why they’d left him and thought they would come back. they don’t.

he goes through two foster homes, until he’s adopted by a foster worker at 10 years old. his adoptive family shower him with a lot of love, and seungjae up till this days doesn’t know how he’ll ever repay their kindness. he loves his adoptive family a lot.

at 17 years old, he gets scouted by ydh entertainment. at 19, he debuts.

seungjae doesn’t know why!! they’re contacting him! or how they found him!! but curiosity gets the better of him, and he decides to meet them face to face! finds out that woah – they ‘abandoned’ him because he was getting in the way of planning family trips! his birth father straight up tells him “you were our third child. and it made planning really difficult, especially for family trips. but after giving you up for adoption, we regretted it. because we realized we really wanted a third child! so we got to work, and now we have four beautiful children.”

seungjae is shocked!!! he feels… terrible. and his birth family starts asking him for money because they’ve gone through a few failed businesses. he doesn’t want to help at first, but they start bombarding him with calls and messages. the final straw is when they show up at his adoptive parents house. seungjae decides to give in, and he’s been sending them money whenever they call now just so they’d leave him and his adoptive parents alone.

they still ask him for money frequently, and seungjae gives in. someone should kick his ass about it.

extroverted. a little annoying at times, but it’s because he cares. he’s pretty friendly, and an easy guy to approach..!

anyway, you can get a lot from his profile and bio but i'll put a few more facts under the cut! and of course if you'd like to plot with luke, shoot me a message or like this post and we're ready to get involved!

alright so i kinda realized i accidentally wrote his bio more from the pov of his parents than including his own thoughts and feelings, so i'll try to give some more insight into that... basically luke was lowkey parentified, his mother in particular because she had to lean on him to translate for her in canada and his dad was spending long hours at work. this kinda forced him to grow up too fast, and he accepted this until he started to become a teenager and realized how unfair his situation was. it sounds kinda insane to use the idol industry as an "escape" to freedom, but that's exactly what he did. it gave him an excuse to leave his parents' home for an extended time and he doesn't hate it tbh, so he's soaking up this experience while he tries to decide what comes next.

that said he loves his family! he really does! he has his grandparents and probably aunts/uncles/cousins in south korea so he's not exactly alone here (and i am so open to plotting out extended family relationships too just saying...). he does struggle with some guilt at likely leaving his younger siblings in the same situation he left, and he misses them, but he had to do this for himself.

a lot of his community growing up was through church btw. his parents attended a korean community church in toronto where some services were held entirely in their native language. they became very involved as it was a way to connect with the culture they moved away from for luke's dad's job. another reason he wanted to get away is because of his bisexuality, which he knew he could never admit to his very conservative parents, and y'know still acknowledges that south korea isn't exactly the place one would go to in order to explore that but it is what it is. he's not totally sure of his own religious beliefs at this point in his life but kinda appreciates the fact that it doesn't have to be a priority right now either.

all this said, he still very much has caretaker tendencies despite being one of the youngest members of his group (and in the company?)!! that's sort of how he adopted the "mood maker" role for himself; he can't exactly take care of his members or anyone else like he would his younger siblings, but he can try to make them laugh or brighten their day a little bit. he's kinda good at it too since he's not really afraid to make a fool of himself. it's why he keeps going viral for dumb shit too and he's probably the guy hosting the party in the fanfic since he comes across as super extroverted and friends with everyone.

he's actually way more chill than his image would imply though. he's not actually full of boundless energy and is perfectly happy to sit in silence and just relax when he has the opportunity. but he does put pressure on himself to be the funny guy, to make everyone around him happy, and ALSO that "chronically online" image means that he's VERY active on social media and hi-u. social media, unfortunately, is a 24/7 job and fans are becoming increasingly entitled to his time and attention and a touch of people pleasing tendencies make it hard for him to establish boundaries. luke's doing his best, but this is definitely a theme i want to keep exploring and how it'll affect him longterm!

comes from a middle class family with bigger dreams, which they managed to push onto raebin when he was born.

they managed to sign him to an agency, where he began working as a child model up until his teen years, appearing in fashion magazines and commercials.

while he liked his job, and always took it seriously, it also sparked his interest in fashion and styling. often, he’d talk to the staff and ask questions about the process!

tw stalking — during his last year of highschool, a fan began stalking raebin to and from work and school. at one point, the stalker approached and harassed him but a bystander managed to clock what happened and called the authorities. — end tw

while he was mostly physically unharmed, the experience mentally scarred him. adding insult to injury, his parents’ worries centered around his face, ‘his greatest asset’, and how they were glad it wasn’t compromised.

that sealed the deal for raebin, and he quit his job as a model. at first, he used the excuse of wanting focus on university first, but he never returned to the public eye.

he enrolled in fashion school, using his connections and network from his time as a model to secure an internship in a notable fashion magazine. then, he was offered the role of an assistant stylist after he graduated. from there, his career continued to progress positively.

in the process, areum grows up to be a very quiet and very obedient kid. good at following orders without question. she was never fussy as a toddler either, hardly ever crying or giving her mother trouble. it was as if she knew, or sensed something in the blank expression that settled on her mother’s face sometimes that told her she had to be good. that if she wasn’t, her mother would disappear forever…

when areum’s 8 y/o, they hop on a ferry and move to a small fishing village in jeju island, which ends up being the last time they move

something about the town’s seclusion, its tiny size, and the friendliness of the small community there makes them stay and settle

while her mother dives for mollusks out in the ocean, areum hangs out with the neighborhood grannies, who take care of areum like their own and help her slowly come out of her antisocial shell

some of areum’s best childhood memories take place on the floor of the village recreation room where they spent their time—sprawled out and listening to music on the radio as the grannies gambled and argued playing godori

at some point, they notice how much areum likes listening to the songs, and so they gift her a portable walkman and some tapes for her next birthday

that music player ends up being her most treasured possession and the catalyst for her interest in becoming a singer—feeding this fascination she has for what these musicians are doing with their voices and how it has the ability to make the listener feel things…

she’s not satisfied with just appreciating this from afar, she wants to pick it apart and recreate whatever it is that they’re doing

in areum’s first year of highschool, an opportunity comes when she gets scouted by ydh while she’s visiting the more touristy part of the island

she flies up to seoul the following weekend for the audition, drawn by the name and reputation of the company, and while she’s sitting in the rehearsal room with two dozen other applicants—discovers how much she likes the straightforwardness of competition. that she likes being told ‘this is the standard you are meant to reach’ and ‘this is where you stand in relation to the rest.’

as soon as areum passes the auditions and signs with the company, she throws herself into training with the discipline of a soldier, and this same kind of steely-eyed focus is what characterizes the rest of her career

three months after her debut, a fancam of her singing at a festival goes viral, and the nation’s first love is born

the combined synergy of everything in that video—the weather, the atmosphere, her vocals, her visuals—leaves an impression so strong that it defines how areum will forever appear to the general public. she becomes the embodiment of loveliness, immortalized as an open concept for people to project their romantic fantasies. men would cite her as their ideal type and women would study her mannerism for clues on how to get their crushes to fall for them.

in the process, areum becomes whatever the viewer wants her to be. sophisticated and graceful, but unspecific enough to be broadly appealing. universally liked. the general public’s pick.

the flip side to this is that some people think that it feels too manufactured. too bland. that areum lacks a color and personality of her own, and isn’t that just so typical of a female idol from that company? they sneer at how ydh markets her like she’s some organic singer-songwriter when her name can’t be found anywhere in the production credits

and so areum adjusts. identifies the gaps—the cracks in her image that are causing people to lose their immersion—and fixes it. switches her major from kpop performance to applied music. they want a real artist, so she becomes a real artist, unable to stand the thought of getting anything but full marks for her work.

to no surprise, areum is a workaholic. a textbook perfectionist. she’s the happiest when she’s working herself to the bone, which is somewhat troubling bc she’s starting to realize that she doesn’t know what would be left of her life without it?

ever since her debut, she’s been running full-speed with complete tunnel vision, barely even registering that it’s been almost a decade since then and that she’s given over her whole youth to this industry

compared to what it was like in the beginning, however, areum’s come far in terms of establishing a sense of agency over her image

if before she only saw herself as a vessel for this character, now she’s able to take an active role in the narrative built around her, mixing in moments of truth and honesty with her song lyrics that in turn make what she does on stage feel more real. more like her own.

but despite this increase in introspection, she’s still kind of emotionally repressed? she doesn’t like the highs and lows of being carried away by any particular emotion, and so she has a habit of controlling herself whenever she starts feeling overly happy, overly sad, etc

so on one hand, areum comes across as having super high composure, unfazed in any situation—calm, stoic, reliable. but on the other hand, she’s still incredibly reserved, making it hard for her to express herself or be vulnerable with others and form meaningful relationships

born cha jisoo to a blue collar worker, chae jihoon and a seamstress, min eunha, as the pair’s only child. although jihoon’s educational background left much to be desired, he was smart and had many dreams for his family. eunha was a loving wife, she has always been patient with him, but all good things must come to an end.

tw: mention of substance abuse (alcohol)

jisoo was merely 12 when her parents divorced. initially, her father gained custody over her; however, that changed after he lost his job due to an outburst against his boss following a denial on his promotion. gradually, his father turned into alcohol and became a former shell of what he once was. by that time, her mother was already seeing a well-off man. upon learning about her father’s predicament, she swiftly sought to reclaim custody. when her father left, her heart was shattered. it felt as though she had lost everything, even her father’s last name was taken away from her, which jisoo despised her mother for. all that’s left for her was the last gift he gave her: a music box.

ever since she can remember, music has been an integral part of her life. from singing along to her favorite idol’s songs as a child to performing in school musicals and talent shows. her father was always supportive, her mother not so much. but it didn’t put a stop to her dreams, often cutting classes just to get to auditions and eventually dropping out when she got in ninety9 creative as a trainee; much to her mother’s dismay.

her mother has drove a wedge on their relationship completely. jisoo’s decision was not made overnight. at 16, she chose to live in the dorms with her fellow trainees, guided by what she believed her father would advise in her situation. several months later, she was considered to be one of the top trainees. the management saw great potential in her, they wanted her to be in marionette. but alas, it was too much weight on her shoulders. the last evaluation came about and she choked mid-performance, while the other member who was pitted against her has shown her best performance yet. as much as they would have loved to wait, the debut was on the horizon and preparations must start soon. there was only one slot left so they had to make a quick decision.

normally, a person who experienced such would just tuck their tail between their legs and leave. jisoo showed her unrelenting passion and it greatly impressed everyone, including kevin yoon himself. he couldn’t just let her go, so he eventually included her in his plans to debut a new girl group. five years later, she debuted as selene’s rina, representing the color eden green.

selene/nymth rina:

the group’s introduction was quite innovative. showcasing the members’ abilities as soloists, as well as through units. her solo debut was up and she was reminded of her failed performance years prior. she realized she had come this far and she couldn’t just give it all up. thankfully, it exceeded all the expectations. debuting with the girls couldn’t have made her any happier. these girls weren’t just members to her; they’re a family. at the beginning of her idol career, people often debated on whether or not she was better suited for marionette or for selene/nymth, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

selene struggled gaining the same love from their domestic fanbase early on in their career. it didn’t help that when midas labels took over, sudden concept change happened, hiatuses between each comeback became longer, and instead of focusing on domestic promotions to attract new fans to the group, midas labels decided the group should focus on touring. as a result of the lack of domestic promotions, their popularity in korea weakened. jisoo, in particular, was discontented with this direction, believing that the group deserved greater recognition for their relentless efforts. this frustration contributed to her developing an eating disorder and a dependence on nicotine.

jisoo is no doubt an all-rounder, but she was more recognized for her voice than anything. it came as no surprise for her to always be asked to lend her voice for osts, albeit only for webdramas. she also frequented musical variety shows, where her performances have often gone viral on the internet. recently she has rekindled her passion for stage musicals, landing her first breakout role as seo haena in the musical “midnight sun” in late 2023. while not as frequent as her other endeavours, she also graced magazine pages and modelled for beauty brands, capitalizing on her striking visuals.

nothing could have prepared jisoo to the news of her fellow members’ decision of leaving the group entirely. it triggered her fears of being abandoned, she clung to them desperately; but she could only do so much. the renewed interest on their group at the verge of disbandment rumors changed the higher-up’s minds, so plans for a rebrand was then arranged. it wasn’t until she got to watch the tribute videos their fans have made that made her felt reassured—she was never going to be alone in this new journey.

as preparation was going on, they all started to resume activities. jisoo had a chance to do solo gigs once more, while it was never a priority it was always welcomed. she found it not too restraining to their particular image, and she had more freedom to branch out into other things. soon thereafter, they redebuted with the new branding, reuniting on stage at last.

the basics

xiyue’s father was a musical theatre actor and his mother a peking opera singer; from the very beginning, his life has been intertwined with music. they discovered his talents for singing early on, and tried to push for it, thrusting him into intensive music lessons. xiyue didn’t minded drowning in it, because music was his first love.

he’s gotten some fame for it, appearing on some shows as a kid. and due to his parents influences, he has knowledge and some skills in musical theatre and peking opera.

his parents eventually got into scandals, with claims of workplace abuse and infidelity. it went viral on the internet and was the hot topic for a while. it turns out that they were all baseless accusations after a year of fighting for it, but their reputation had already been stained, with the pair being kicked out of their groups.

during this time, they also went through a divorce. xiyue followed his mother, and became obsessed with projecting her music dreams onto xiyue. he doesn’t admits this, but it became one of xiyue’s worst periods of his life, as he tries to please his mother’s wishes for him.

xiyue’s mother then threw him to korea, in hopes that he would become a successful idol there, without the shadows of the faux scandals following him. he joins a small company, and trains for about two years, was promised a debut but it never happened, so he left.

by then, xiyue realises that he’s lost passion in music. and yet, he doesn’t knows what else he could do without music in his life. so he tries to bring it back; busking, playing in temporary bands, etc. nothing worked out for him.

eventually he gets scouted by ydh entertainment, maybe it’s his last chance to bring back his passion? or not. haha!

the idol

xiyue had been a trainee for five months prior sodapop’s debut, so honestly.. he didn’t get much of that trainee bonding stuff going on. he would seem quiet and dead-like initially, until he started to open his mouth. he’s super two-faced; would shamelessly look good in front of staff, but behind closed doors he doesn’t cares about keeping face in a smaller circle

this extends to after debuting, but xiyue still does maintain a good image as yue. he can be rather sensitive to public perception due to past trauma, so he’ll look out for fellow members in his… well, aggressive way…

on another hand, xiyue has a very lackadaisical attitude when it comes to practice/training. he puts in the least amount of effort, doesn’t thinks its important and would say that the fanservice sodapop is forced to give is a good thing for him

which is half a lie. he has his odd love-hate relationship with music. xiyue does gets frustrated at the lack of creative freedom, and he (tries to) practices out of people’s sight. he tries to fight for more creative opportunities, writes and produces music in his free time—for someone who claims to say that music is just a means for him to gain fame and make money

his “lazy” attitude makes people forget that he’s a music genius, though. xiyue is the type to ace all of his music lessons and exams without blinking an eye. everything else? it’s like trying to make a chicken fly

has a really nice voice. says mean stuff with that voice. also probably why he didn’t get his solo debut.

hyorin is the oldest of two girls and was mostly raised by a single father. her mother dipped from the family when hyorin was eight

from a young age, she felt responsible for her younger sister and made sure to never cause trouble for her dad who worked late nights to try to take care of two girls

she starts singing by chance when her friend asks hyorin to join the choir club at school so they don't get shut down. it's almost the first time she gets to do something that she actually enjoys, but she leaves it as a hobby because she knew her studies were important to get a stable job and provide for her family later on

unknown to her, her friend (the same one who asked her to join the choir club) uploaded a clip of her singing online and it goes semi-viral to the point where she starts getting offers. hyorin initially says no, but then her dad urges her to give it a try & that's how she ends up in ydh entertainment!

she trains for about three years before being picked for angelix's final line up. as a trainee, she would've mostly been known as the quiet one who offered a helping hand to newer trainees. a very hard worker, probably described as being the first in the building and the last one out because hyorin knew the moment she decided to go down this road, she had to succeed

career.

straight off the bat, she gets noticed for her visuals. hyorin's never really focused on her physical appearance before (she was busy studying) and so it was pretty shocking to learn that she was being perceived as the group's visual

nevertheless, that helps get her advertisement deals and editorials pretty much since angelix's debut. even with ydh having the group's individual promotions on a tight leash, they seem to make an exception when it comes to these deals for hyorin

this proves to be both positive and negative. positive in the sense that it shows hyorin that she made the right decision to take this leap into the idol world because she's thrown into a world of success right away

however, it's super negative in the case that it puts her name in the headlines a lot, and that leads to her estranged mother contacting again

the calls aren't friendly at all and are mostly threats about how she's in a lot of gambling debt and that she needs her precious daughter to help pay them off. initially, hyorin obliges because she doesn't want her mom going to her dad for help

but the threats and all don't seem to stop and hyorin's name keeps getting involved in these scandals that have nothing to do with her. it's after about two years when hyorin puts her foot down and releases an official statement that she's been estranged from her mother since she was young and that she initially helped her out because she was her mother but has now cut off all ties

the issue has mostly died down, but there are still people who like to bring it up with her name, accusing her of being a bad daughter (mostly those who just want to hate, really)

once ydh loosens the group up with individual activities, they immediately throw her into acting even though that's not something she wants to do. but ydh seems adamant that the visual of the group must act so they land her a pretty big role straight off the bat and continue to bag lead roles for her

hyorin honestly does try her best, but she really was not born to be an actress. like there's only so much she can do with what she was born with. as the group's main vocalist, she'd very much like some more musical promotions instead, but ydh doesn't seem interested in pursuing that with her

so now hyorin's kind of stuck with this actress role that doesn't fit her at all, and she's slowly drowning in this pool of responsibilities and hate comments that she never asked for, to begin with

all she wants is to have a long, successful career because she still wants to provide for her family, and she thinks that the longer she acts, the less possible that will become as it will continue to tarnish the clean image she's built up

personality.

she's so used to being independent that you'll rarely see her seek you out for help. on the other hand, she's used to taking on responsibility, so she's 100% a mom friend who is always trying to take care of you (it's how she shows her love, really)

she's genuinely a kind person as it was how she was raised, but she's also the person that you think you're friends with but then you realize you know absolutely nothing about her. hyorin doesn't talk much about herself and would rather listen to other people speak, mostly because of her familial background. though, that did get ruined when her mother started using her name to borrow money. still, hyorin doesn't like to talk much about herself until you get closer to her!

she puts so much effort into her idol life that when she's not working, there's a high chance she'll be lounging around at home. that's how she regains her energy so she's very much a homebody

while her idol image isn't like super energetic, she definitely does put up more of an act in front of the cameras as she caters to fans. if you meet her off cameras, she's more secluded and quiet!

some possible plot ideas: someone who's image needs some cleaning up for and their companies pair them together for whatever to use hyorin's image, a junior who would like to get closer to her for whatever reason (acting, singing, being an idol in general), someone who thinks she should really stop acting (pls she agrees), someone who needs guide vocals for the music they work on, exes are always possible (though it would require more plotting), a music buddy that hyorin seeks out when she just wants to sing and start dipping into songwriting, hyorin's always been good with crafts and just handy stuff so she can probably fix your window if you need that, someone who wants to break her oh-so-perfect idol image, (tw: disordered eating) she has a hard time eating a full meal all of the time so maybe someone who's a good cook who's food she actually enjoys or just a foodie in general that hyorin likes to watch eat (i hope this doesn't come off too odd)
