TIMELINE :)

Others say life is not a fairy tale and there are no happy endings but for me, we can make our life like a fairy tale, we just need to believe. Believe in God, because with Him nothing is impossible. Believe in our capabilities and that we can do the things we want to do. Life is not perfect. Life is not always sunshine and butterflies but when we have the courage to take chances and live life to the fullest.
In almost 20 years of living in this world, I’ve learned many lessons through experiences – And I would say life has never been really easy. Life is always giving unending challenges but I also learned to have faith and believe in God, who knows all of my weaknesses and strengths and my heart’s desire. As the girl, whom some sees as basic and timid I am trying my best to do my very best in every field and to conquer every fears and reach my dreams.
Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale. Life may not be good at all times but when we believe, strive for our success and have faith in God, our happily ever after waits.

IF
Tumblr media
If given a chance to go back to the past, I would choose the time when I was 15 years old in my third year high school. There was this boy who was my classmate and my seatmate when we were in grade six. He was the first person who talked to me, he was a nice guy and we became close but only for a few months because our adviser made a seat plan which was arranged alphabetically. I sat in front and he was at the back because his surname starts with letter Q and it is far from letter B. in every class, we chose classroom officers and I was elected as the Muse. This boy was nominated as the prince but he didn’t win. The one who was elected as the Prince was always paired with me. Since then, we never talked because he seemed to be drifting away and he was always skipping class. Fast forward in my third year high school, I was shocked that he transferred to the same school where I was studying; maybe it was just coincidence because as what I have heard from our classmates, he went to Cebu to study there. We were not classmates but he was always showing his affection towards me. I found ways to avoid him like every time he would ask if he could walk me home, I would always refuse and say, “No, I’m with my brother. He would be angry. ” Then one day he found out that it was not true and for the second time he drifted away. He was unhappy with what I did. If I could go back on that time, I shouldn’t have lied and just tell him the truth that I am not ready and I want to focus to my studies first. Maybe he would’ve understood me and probably waited me when the time will come that I will be ready and sure to enter romantic relationship.
I am not sad about being single these days because I am happy. My family and true friends are always by my side and I know that they love me. I believe there is a perfect timing for everything. Good things come to those who wait.

BACK IN 1999
Tumblr media
The noise from the cars in the street, the footsteps of the passers-by, the sound from their shoes and stilettos, the voices from the loud mouthed street vendors shouting, the sound of wind in trees and rustling leaves, the chirping of the birds and the sound of a rumbling stomach, all of these but she can’t hear anything. She’s standing on the sidewalk and everything seemed to be in a fast forward moment, it’s like she’s the only person on the sidewalk even though she’s in the center of the crowd. Her eyes were fixed nowhere; her mind was in deep thoughts. “I want to go back to that time.” That’s the only thing that’s on her mind since morning.  Tears escaped from her eyes. She closed her eyes and felt sleepy but the loud noise from the approaching truck awakened her soul. BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP SCREEEECH! She opened her eyes immediately and saw a little boy who was running after his balloon which flew to the direction of the street where the truck was fast approaching. Her adrenaline soared at the thought of saving the little boy from being hit by the truck, so she ran as fast as she can and grabbed the little boy’s hand but the happening was so fast. She heard the people screamed and she saw the truck was near so he hugged the little boy tightly and everything went black.
Earlier that day, before going to school Tala prepared the breakfast and washed the clothes of the children in orphanage. She also swept the floor, washed the dishes and watered the plants in the garden. Tala lived in an orphanage for about 18 years, she’s an orphan. She’s in her senior high school and she’s the president in their class. She’s not blessed with a pretty face or even a mediocre look but she’s not ugly. She has a dark complexion, curly black hair and big eyes however her face glows when she smiles but the beauty of her smile cannot be seen always. She’s a very shy girl and smiles not so often.
She’s the oldest and the sister of all the children in the orphanage. The orphanage was owned and funded by a non- government agency and they just received donations from businessmen and people in the politics. Some social workers and volunteers went to the orphanage to help. Headed by a 66 years old Tiya Madel -the foster mother of all the children in the orphanage. She has been serving the orphanage for 46 years. She was in the service since she was 20 years old. She’s an old maid; she did not marry because she gave her heart to the service and prioritize her children in the orphanage. For Tiya Madel, she considers her fate a calling and she learned to accept about being single blessedness. She’s not different from nuns because they share the same mission in life. She’s also a religious woman, who never failed to teach the word of God to her children. Tala was her right hand, who assisted her in taking good care of the children in the orphanage and also in the adoption process of the kids. Tala would always feel jealousy when the children in the orphanage were chosen will have a new family. Unfortunately, no couple wanted to adopt Tala because they were all looking for delightful little boys and girls, Tala would not passed their preference. She’s smart but she has lots insecurities. She’s insecure about the idea of having a real family.
She came back to her senses when Tiya Madel called her and asked why she was early to go to school. Tala’s class starts at 8:00 am but she’s going to school at 6:00 am because according to her, she needs to clean the room before her classmates will arrive because she’s the assigned cleaner of the classroom. But before she left, Tiya Madel handed her a small box wrapped with gold scented paper and a cute white ribbon on top. Tala was amazed and stared at the box. It was the most beautiful box she had ever seen. “What is this?” she asked Tiya Madel. She’s still in awe but managed to ask the old lady. Tiya Madel replied that it’s a gift for her birthday. “Go and open it!” Tiya Madel said in excitement, she wanted to see her reaction when she opens the gift.
“My birthday? But there is still a month before my birthday.” Tala said.
“Just think of that as my advance birthday gift for you. You have been a good daughter to me and a great sister to the kids here. That is to thank you for all that you have done.” Tiya Madel explained. She’s been a good mother to Tala ever since Tala arrived in the orphanage; she was the one who found Tala at the front gate of the orphanage on Christmas Eve – December 24, 1999. Everything was still clear to Tiya Madel what happened that day. The cool breeze of December, sparkling lights all over the town, the children singing Christmas Carols and everyone was so busy preparing for the Noche Buena. Tiya Madel was in her mid-40, she was busy wrapping gifts for the children in the orphanage when she heard a baby’s cry. She frowned wondering where the cry was coming from; there was no baby inside the orphanage. She stopped what she’s doing and looked for the baby. Her ears led her to the front gate of the orphanage, there was no one there but she only found a basket, and when she looked at the basket she saw a baby girl wrapped in a red cloth. She was shocked and immediately made the sign of the cross.
“Good Heavens!” she exclaimed. Who would dare leave their baby outside the orphanage wearing nothing but a red cloth? She thought. The night was so cold and she took the crying baby inside and made her warm by hugging the baby tightly. She fed the baby and it stopped crying and for the first time the baby smiled. Days passed and no one claimed the baby, so Tiya Madel decided to take care of the baby until she will find a new family. She gave the baby a name, she thought of a beautiful name and come up with the name Tala which means star. Tala was found on Christmas Eve and the people were celebrating the birth of Jesus, the star served as the guide of the wise men so that they reached where Jesus, the saviour was. That star was the brightest when Jesus was born, and for Tiya Madel, Tala had the brightest smile she had ever seen. Ever since, she celebrated her birthday every 25 of December.
“Thank you Tiya Madel!” It was the first gift she received in her entire life. She opened the gift it was a gold necklace with her name imbedded on the star pendant. It was so beautiful she cannot contain her happiness she smiled from ear to ear. Tiya Madel’s heart melted seeing her daughter’s smile.
“The brightest smile I long to see” Tiya Madel said in low voice. It was a long time ago when she last saw her smiles. Tala wondered and asked where Tiya Madel gets the money to buy such expensive gift. Tiya Madel has not been receiving any money from the orphanage. She has no salary and it was purely service.
“It’s not important anymore. Don’t worry. Now, you should get going you have some errands to do at school.” Tiya Madel said.
When Tala reached the school, she saw her classmate Darwin standing at the doorway of their classroom. He was the weird guy in school; he wore thick eyeglasses, braces and had that shiny black hair. No one ever dared to talk to Darwin, because no one would understand him he talked about space, aliens, and other weird stuff. He was a genius and his IQ would surpass Einstein’s. He was aloof from all of their classmates because he would also not wanted to talk to those he thinks would not levelled his IQ. Tala looked at Darwin and was hesitant to ask why he was so early because he might ignore her. He never talked to his classmates before even Tala. She decided she would just pass Darwin and just clean the room.
“I’ve been waiting for you. I’ll show you something.” Darwin said to her and entered the room. Tala was so shocked because a guy like Darwin just approached her. She followed Darwin because she’s curious and she doesn’t think it’s a request but an order. Darwin showed her a small round silver pocket clock. He said that it is a magical clock that can take a person back in time where he/she wanted. Tala does not believe this kind of stuff, because that only happens in fairy tales and there is no such thing as fairy tale in reality.
“You’re bluffing! Where did you find this?” Tala asked. She’s not interested in that thing but she just asked anyway, she don’t want to be rude.
“I invented it. I just finished it today. I’ve been working on this or six months and I want you to try this.” Darwin said and handed her the clock. She looked closely at the clock and she noticed the hand of the clock was revolving counter clockwise.
“It’s going backwards!” Tala exclaimed in amazement. Darwin smiled at her.
“Because it can take you to the past.” He explained.
Tala gave the pocket clock to Darwin and said she has no time for this because she’s a very busy person. She refused Darwin’s offer.
“I just wanted to help you, you don’t know your real parents right? It’s your chance to see the person who left you and probably your parents at the orphanage!”
Her life is not anymore a secret. Everyone knows that she’s an orphan and lived in an orphanage. She touched the thing that’s hanging around her neck, the necklace given by Tiya Madel for her birthday. Every year on her birthday, she would always wish that her parents would show up and get her.
“What will happen to me if I go back to the past? Will I be able to change it? Can I talk to a person in the past?” she asked Darwin because she wanted to try it.
“I don’t know the answer to your questions. You will not know if you don’t try right?” he said.
Tala thinks that there is nothing bad for believing in this kind of stuff. She was nervous because she doesn’t know what will happen to her when she gets back to the past but she was really determined to look for someone who abandoned her.
“Okay, I’m ready. What will I do?” she asked Darwin. She thinks that it’s now or never. Darwin gave her the instructions and handed her the pocket clock.
“Hold the clock tightly, closed your eyes and just whisper your wish. Click the yellow button at the back then the clock will take to the time where you wanted.”
She did what Darwin told her. She held the clock tightly, closed her eyes and whispered, “I want to go back to that time”, then clicked the button. She waited, and waited, and waited. When she felt nothing, she opened her eyes, she was still in the classroom and Darwin was there too.
“What happened?” Tala asked because she was confused. Darwin looked disappointed.
“It didn’t work. Maybe I should fix this first.” Darwin said and went out of the room.
Tala was frustrated because she was really determined to go back in the past. Throughout the day, it had been on Tala’s mind. As she walked heading to the orphanage, it seemed that she was not in her senses. She can’t feel what was happening to her surroundings. She was standing on the sidewalk.
“I want to go back to that time.” That’s the only thing that’s on her mind since morning.  Tears escaped from her eyes.
The loud noise from the approaching truck awakened her soul she saw a little boy heading to the street where the truck was fast approaching. She ran as fast as she can and grabbed the little boy’s hand but the happening was so fast. She heard the people screamed and she saw the truck was near so he hugged the little boy tightly and everything went black.
When she opened her eyes she was lying on the street. She saw many trees and it seemed a different place from where she was earlier. She then remembered about being hit by a truck, she stands immediately and searched for the little boy she was hugging earlier. But she can’t find him and nobody was there. She was all alone and the place is not familiar. She sat on the ground and she cried because she doesn’t know what was happening and what to do. A young man approached her and asked what happened to her.
“Are you lost or something?” the young man asked. Tala stared at the face of the young man, his face was familiar. He looked like someone she knows.
“Darwin?” Tala asked. He looked like Darwin but without those thick eyeglasses and braces. His hair was a bit messy too.
The young man laughed at what Tala said, her teary-eyed sparkled when she saw a familiar face in an unfamiliar place and he finds her cute.
“I’m not Darwin, I’m Leo. How may I help you?” he asked. Leo was a 20 years old –second year engineering student. He was on his way home when he found Tala sitting on the ground crying.  He helped her to stand and they sat on a bench. Leo bought her water because Tala would not stop crying. He gave Tala his red handkerchief to wipe off her tears. Leo was a gentleman who always helps those who are in need and he thinks that this girl really needs his help.
“What’s your name? Where are you from?” Leo asked her again. She told Leo that her name was Tala and she said she lived in St. Martin’s Orphanage. Tala looked very closely at Leo outfit, it was so old fashioned and in his hand he was holding a very old cell phone. Tala then realized her bag pack was nowhere to be found and she had a feeling that she’s in the past. She couldn’t believe it. Did Darwin’s clock work? Is she in the past now?
“What date is today?” she asked Leo, she wanted to confirm if she was right. She was nervous while waiting for Leo’s answer.
“Today is December 23. What really happened to you?” Leo was confused.
“What year?” Tala asked again. Leo’s eyes widened in disbelief how come she didn’t even know the year. He replied that its 1999. Tala couldn’t believe what she had heard. She was in the past and its December 23, 1999. She remembered it was December 24, 1999 the day she was abandoned by her parents. She needed to go to the orphanage and wait there so that she could see her parents. She requested Leo to take her to St. Martin’s Orphanage. He accompanied her and took her to Berlin Street where the orphanage was located. When they get there, Tala was shocked, the place was under construction and there was no orphanage. Leo asked the workers there and they said that they were still building the orphanage. No one knows where St. Martin’s Orphanage was located. Tala was disappointed, she didn’t even know about the history of the orphanage that it was located in other place before they moved to their current location and that she only had one day to find the orphanage. It was getting dark and cold so Leo decided they would just continue searching for the orphanage at daylight. Tala had no place to stay so Leo offered a room for Tala in their house. Tala was hesitant because he only knew Leo for a day and it was hard to trust people easily. Leo assured that he has no bad intention and he just wanted to help her besides they were not only the two of them in Leo’s house but his sister is also there. Indeed, Leo’s sister came to pick them up. His sister was very accommodating and fun to be with. Leo and his sister were really kind-hearted to help people they did not even know. The morning came it’s already December 24 the day she waited for and Tala was very excited and nervous to see who really left her on the orphanage. What will she do if she saw her mother or father?  Leo’s sister also helped in searching for the orphanage. His sister searched and asked her friends if they know where St. Martin’s Orphanage was located. Leo and Tala were in the place they first met, they were waiting for Leo’s sister call and to tell them the location of the orphanage. It was getting dark; they didn’t receive any call yet and Tala started to feel worried because what if she missed the chance she will see her parents. Tala decided to tell Leo everything and the truth why she wanted to go to the orphanage. Leo stared at Tala, she cannot read what was on Leo’s mind, and he was seriously looking at Tala. She said it’s up to him if he will believe her or not but she’s thankful for what he’d done and for helping a stranger like her.
“I believed you.” Leo said and smiled. Tala was surprised, Leo believed her! She thought Leo would think that she’s crazy saying that she’s from the future but she’s wrong. She hugged Leo tightly and he hugged her back. Just in time, Leo’s phone rang; it was her sister informing them about the location of the orphanage. Because Tala was so excited to go that place and to see her parents, she ran fast as she can, she didn’t see there was an approaching car, the car beeped. Tala was shocked and couldn’t move but someone pushed her to the safe road, luckily she was saved but she heard a loud bang and the sound of a crashed car. When she looked back, she saw Leo lying on the ground, he’s bleeding and unconscious! Leo was the one who pushed her and saved her life in return Leo’s life was put in danger. Tala is running out of time, she needed to go to the orphanage she might miss the chance but she can’t leave Leo. She was crying and she was in dilemma. Who will she choose?
She chose to stay by Leo’s side. He was taken to the hospital and he had minor injuries but still unconscious. The doctor said that he was okay. Tala was relieved. Tala looked at the wall clock of the hospital it’s already 12:00 am December 25 her birthday. Tala decided to go all by herself to the location of the orphanage hoping she could still see the person she wanted to see. When she arrived there, her heart melted of what she saw and warm tears escaped from her eyes. She just looked and stared at the woman. It was her Tiya Madel in her mid-40 carrying the baby Tala. She didn’t catch up with the person who left her at the orphanage but she saw the person who treated her as a daughter. She closed her eyes and realized, she was busy looking for the missing person thus she tend to overlooked Tiya Madel’s presence. Why look for the person who is not there when you have someone who is always by your side.
When she opened her eyes, she was standing on the sidewalk from where she was from the start. It’s like Dejavu but now she can hear he noise from the cars in the street, the footsteps of the passers-by, the sound from their shoes and stilettos, the voices from the loud mouthed street vendors shouting their products that’s in a low price, the sound of wind in trees and rustling leaves, the chirping of the birds and even the sound of a rumbling stomach. She had not eaten since this morning. She remembered there was a boy who will cross the street running after his balloon and a truck to pass but seconds, minutes, and hours passed but there was no little boy and truck. Her phone rung from her bag pack, she was so happy her bag pack was with her.
“I am back!” she cried in happiness. She went home and when she saw Tiya Madel, she hugged her tightly.
“Thank you Tiya Madel! Not just for this necklace but for everything.”
On the way to school, she saw Darwin and straightaway hugged and thanked him. Darwin was shocked because he didn’t know what he had done; he thought his invention was a failure so he asked Tala what happened to her. She just smiled at Darwin. A man from behind called Darwin, she looked at the person, he was tall and share the same features with Darwin but an older version of him. Tala was so sure it was Leo.
“That’s my father.” Darwin said.
Darwin’s father looked at Tala and his eyes widened in surprised. Tala smiled and she returned the red handkerchief Leo gave.
 END.

Sweet Home Alabama
Tumblr media
The only thing that is constant in the world is change. People who are on the peak of success, richness, fame and power change and tend to forget, no, not forget but pretend they forget where they came from and where they started. Melanie pretended to be single and even changed her surname to hide her poor origin. She’s from a simple family but she’s ashamed of that. She had many secrets to her fiancé – Andrew, including the fact that she was already married to her childhood sweetheart Jake. We may hide our identity but at the end of the day it will always be revealed because there are no secrets that time does not reveal. Andrew found out about Melanie’s past, he got angry but was able to forgive Melanie because that just how love works; all about Acceptance and Forgiveness. At the near end of the story, Andrew and Melanie’s love story ended, they’re not meant to be because Melanie already gave her heart a long time ago to her husband Jake. The story ended the way all viewers wanted, a happy ending. Jake and Melanie got back together; it’s like her love had fallen into a deep slumber and finally awakened by Jake. We may change our personality, the way we live and our perspective in life but we must keep it in our minds and hearts that the love for family, true friends and the perfect one should remain eternal; genuine and unconditional.
Pretending to be someone else is not my way of living. I live for myself, my family, and my real friends and to the author of salvation, God. If there in my life that I pretended, it’s not pretending to be someone else but pretended I love the shoes my mother bought for me because I know we don’t have enough money to buy the one I like. In high school, I pretended I didn’t hear that they were talking unpleasant words about me to avoid fight because I call them my friends. I pretended I’m okay, I’m strong, I don’t cry but that’s the opposite of me. I learned to live on a safer side to avoid complications but as time goes by, I realized that if I am with the people I love and God I know and I believe I can be strong to take the risk, to conquer my fears and to reach my dreams.

A BIG DAY AT SCHOOL
Tumblr media
“Why are you so big? Is that even possible? Am I dreaming?” I asked in astonishment. He laughed and said, “I’m from a family of giants and no, you’re not dreaming. I am real. By the way I am Ollie.” He smiled at me. I was so curious about his family. How does it feel to be in a family of giants? I wanted to ask him but I’m shy. “I am Mico. It is nice to meet you!” I replied.
We share the same classes and we became best friends in an instant. He was fun to be with. We played hide and seek but Ollie was so big that I could find him easily. Ollie could reach the fruits on the trees and would give it to me.
Tumblr media
The kids at school was so jealous of Ollie, they called him names and would even throw him stones. I saw a tear fell from his eyes that day. He never showed up to school in the afternoon. I was so upset, I couldn’t defend him.
Our next class was at the fifth floor of the building. While the teacher was discussing we heard a loud explosion and the emergency bells rang. The kids were crying and screaming. Everyone was panicking. The laboratory was on fire and it’s spreading all over the area.
Tumblr media
They said the fire truck was on the way but it was taking too long. I don’t know what to do too but at that moment all I ever think of was Ollie.
Tumblr media
“Ollie! Where are you? Help us!” I shouted. The kids who saw and heard me joined in calling Ollie.
Tumblr media
“Ollie! Ollie! Help us!” We shouted.
We then heard loud footsteps and there he was running towards us with big bottled water in his hands.
Tumblr media
He first helped us get to a safe place and he sprinkled the water on the burning building.  Ollie didn’t hesitate to help us despite the bullying he experienced. Everyone was safe and unharmed, thanks to Ollie. I realized that being different from other kids doesn’t make you less of a person. The most important thing is that, you don’t harm people. Ollie, being a giant, was now appreciated and not being laughed at, because Ollie’s uniqueness had saved a lot of lives. He is our Hero.

The Paradise Island
Are you tired from work, school, and all the pressures in life? Do you want to unwind and release the stresses that embrace you? Do you want to forget all the heart aches, the broken relationships and the one sided love? Want to escape from it? Well worry no more, because there’s a solution to your problem. Let the nature comfort you and your heart, mind and soul be at harmony. It is a place where the sea drowns all your anxiety and cleanses you with its crystal-like water.
Tumblr media
Welcome to the Maldives, where sands are white as the smiles of the locals, where fish swim happily in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, where the weather is a dream, and the deep rays of the sun waits to engulf you in their arms.
Tumblr media
A tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. Ninety-nine percent of Maldives is water. It is an independent country of about 357,566 in population. Maldives is one of the safest travel destinations on the planet – the island resorts, specifically, since they are largely isolated so there’s nothing to worry about and just to enjoy.
Tumblr media
The Maldives is home to perhaps the best beaches in the world, from the lovely trees, white sand, clear water to the creatures under the sea and the coral reef, everything is perfect. In deeper waters lurk manta rays, turtles, sharks and even the world’s largest fish, the whale shark. The best thing is? The water is so warm and many people don’t even wear a wetsuit.
Tumblr media
Aside from enjoying the beauty of nature; there are lots of activities you wouldn’t want to miss. The main activities you can do include scuba diving, snorkeling, watersports, in-land sports, and excursions. Most common watersports includes banana riding, catamaran sailing, waterski, wake-boarding, windsurfing, paddling, jetski etc. Excursions are the most interesting. They include sunset fishing, dolphin watching, snorkeling trips, island hopping, shopping trips, romantic escapes, sunset cruise etc.
Tumblr media
After a long day of adventures under the sun, and you want a place to stay for the night there are resorts for everyone with over 100 to choose from. The world’s most exclusive hotel brands compete with each other to attain ever-greater heights of luxury, from personal butlers and private lap pools to in-room massages and pillow menus. But there’s choice beyond the five- and six-star resorts. Other islands cater for families, for divers, for those on a (relative) budget, and anyone wanting a tranquil back-to-nature experience.

You can also enjoy the view at night. Maldives beach becomes sea of stars at night. Researchers say the organisms creating the glow in the Maldives are in fact “ostracod crustaceans” although they’ve been commonly mistaken for phytoplankton. These ostracods emit light for a longer time than the organisms previously believed which is the bioluminescent phytoplankton. The sight of thousands of glowing specks scattered along the beach’s sand is believed to be a mass mortality of these organisms that periodically occurs in the Maldives.

The first time I read the poem all I thought that it was just all about the sweet love of a wife to her husband.  That it was so romantic and depicts blissful moments and an ideal life for a couple, but on the second time I read the poem and we had our sharing with my classmates, I pictured a grieving who is longing for her husband’s attention, affection and appreciation. The feeling of happiness turned into sadness. I paused to ponder on the situation of the author, “What was the author’s experience that led her to write the poem and what she’s feeling?” Indeed! Life is not perfect; we always had our ups and downs but love should be unconditional, it is about thinking of the one you love without any thought for what we might get for ourselves.
“No man is an island”. Everyone wanted to love and be loved. If I will find the one someday, I’ll do everything for that man not because it is my obligation but it is my willingness to be his inspiration when he’s down, comforter when he’s distressed, his confidant, his happy pill and above all his home and because just like in the poem, “my most treasured title is his wife”. No matter how big the problem is I’ll still stay like that because my choice is him and forever will be unchangeable.

What Lies Beyond The Silence
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What lies beyond the silence
“The greatest pleasure is doing what people say you cannot do.” For an aspiring teacher PRINCESS HOPE BARBOSA, these words made her an enthusiast to survive as she continues her journey as a student. Growing up, she experienced a lot of discrimination from other people whom according to her were one of her closest friends. But not enough to make her doubt and continues to be as great as she can be. She’s indeed silent but getting to know her, it’s actually the total opposite because behind her personality being shy and conservative, there’s a total difference of what I can totally see and it’s beyond what I could have expected from a “silent girl.” The key is the word “yet”, and yes you haven’t known her yet! Being a consistent dean’s list for three consecutive years is something that is really unexpected from a girl who had been a wallflower for years. She was born on November 19 and is now 19 years old and continuously making the people she loves as proud as she is with herself.
When we get the chance to hang out, I also get the chance to ask her to talk about her life experiences and I’m telling you, she’s not the typical kind of girl we know, she’s down to earth, modest, thoughtful and most of all simple yet elegant. Princess was raised by a simple family, when she was young she had so many dreams in life when she finished her studies, she wants to travel the world where she could see everything she had never seen in her life and that’s the hidden wonders of the world. She always wanted to become a teacher and was indeed her passion. For her teaching might not make you become rich but being able to mold young ones become successful is more than a treasure and that makes you even richer than others. Her parents; Mercedita P. Barbosa and Edwin M. Barbosa raised her to be as simple and religious as they are. It’s very evident as her friends best describe her as “God fearing” and yes she’s silent but a lot of words of wisdom travel from the deepest part of her brain whenever she opens her mouth. She finished elementary at East City Central School and graduated at Lapasan National High School as class valedictorian. Her father is a retired police and she has six siblings. She gets along well with her third elder sister and is her favorite family member. The last thing that she said about her sister being her favorite was that “We have so much in common and I’m very much comfortable with her because I can share everything.” They both love reading bible and fiction books as well as playing guitar. Whenever they’re bored and lonely one of their stress relievers is listening to Christian music. She even said- “We’re a bit addicted to those kinds of songs and since we love playing guitar, we sing together sometimes.”
When she was in high school she was bullied in the sense that being silent doesn't prove anything. Every time she participates to some of their school activities, the people around her especially one of her friends would really doubt her ability. I’m a bit curious and asked her about the usual reactions of those people. “They would always say they’re better than me and it hurts because of all people, my closest friends could actually say something like that to me.”-she said. This Triggers her to stay silent, not doing anything to avoid criticism. Then I realized, you cannot really blame people for being who they are to the fact that sometimes you have no choice but to be nothing and just stick to the things that you’re used to because there will always be someone who could throw trash in you. She did everything she could to avoid those things and just focused more on her academics and fortunately she was able to get good grades and became the class valedictorian. “It was really unexpected and I’m very much thankful.”-she added. With that achievement, Princess was able to prove that being silent does not some up who she is and for whom she will be.
To be able to finish college and pursue a teaching career has been her wildest dreams. On her graduation it’s been a lucky day as Liceo de Cagayan University-one of the autonomous universities in Cagayan de Oro City, offered the top ten students a full academic scholarship. On the other hand, they should maintain an average grade of 1.2 which would be a bit hard if you don’t take it seriously. Being one of the top ten, she was able to avail and grab this amazing opportunity to study and finish a degree. She took up Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English and it really challenged her. “The first time I entered college was very nerve wracking to the point that I wasn't sure if I could really maintain such grade.”-she said. But her family was the one who motivated her and showed her that in her journey, she’s not alone. It’s really been her dream and she’s now taking the first step. Being a teacher requires confidence and perseverance to be able to survive in the teaching field. Unfortunately, she lacks the confidence to express her thoughts in front of people. She explains her reason and said that “I’m not used to talk in front of everyone and whenever I do that, it just makes me upset because I’m a bit curious with the words I’m about to utter.” For her a lot of things have changed and it’s not like when she was still in high school that though she’s very silent, there’s always something that she can share. But now that she’s in college, everything changes. She would prefer to pen and paper tests and she answers well. Though she cannot really express herself in front of people, she wants to show to everybody that being silent does not hinder her to excel in her academics and her being like that has its own purpose, people just have to see that. Up until now she’s able to maintain her scholarship and this motivates her to step up and go beyond her comfort zone.
“One of my instructors was the one who really encouraged me to be at my very best in every aspect all the time.”-she proudly said. Ignatius Joseph Estroga who was also her adviser, molded her as she is now; confident, fearless and rounded. She became an enthusiast because of him as he always wanted to bring out the best in her. She even added- “He doesn't want me to just express my opinions properly but to always expound everything I know.” That gave her the confidence to give her one-hundred and ten percent best all the time. “That’s how he trained us, he just wants us to be the best that we can be and it’s worth it.”-she said.
Where she is now, what she has become from a silent girl to a more confident young lady is because of the people whom she considered as her role models who inspired her and became the reason why she had changed a lot; her parents who gave her unconditional love and support and to her adviser who never stop believing in her ability and show her that it’s not enough to just focused on the things around you but being able to go beyond what you can do. Above all to her one and only hero, our God Almighty who had given her the strength and abilities and the one who saved her when she’s about to fall. She said that “With all those achievements I can’t thank God enough especially my parents, the people who helped me and those who underestimated me for making me the kind of person I am now.” Princess realized that it’s not just the standing that matters. Being a scholar and a consistent dean’s list won’t give you so much pleasure, but it’s something that you do that other people say you cannot.

Far More Interesting Than What Meets the Eye
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of God’s extraordinary gift to the people close to her. The one of a kind lady is now in the limelight. The aggressive, over-acting, clingy, talkative, k-drama addict and very expressive person you’ll ever meet, on the other side she’s hard working, smart, generous, and an awesome friend. She’s the black of the sheep, she’s the broken of the heart but she’s also the leader to the cheer, she’s the sparks to the fly and the best of the friends. Like all the creatures in the world, her life is a ferris wheel. She’s been through a lot of ups and downs, slow and fast moments. She considers herself a lion-hearted girl. Lions are the king of the jungle and known to be the strong ones. She gets up whenever she falls. Behind her smile is a mystery to her awe-inspiring life waiting to be discovered for the people who know her worth.
In 1998 of May 27 the year of the tiger, a sweet voice from a new born baby was heard. It’s a girl and had given a name of Maria Teresa Cagmat. She spent her juvenile days in the place of Carmen Hills Cagayan de Oro city where she created memories and started to dream. She loves to sing and dance. Her number one fan and the first audience to hear her first song when she first showed up in the face of the earth is Elvira M. Cagmat her mother and her best friend. To complete her family, her father is Norberto F. Cagmat, the first man in her life. Nothing’s more overwhelming in this world than to become a big sister “ate” to her younger sisters and a brother with such lovely names; Shaira Miraluna, Daniel and the youngest Maria Nelsie.
When it was time to leave the nest and learn something new it was in Tumapagon Elementary School and Tumpagon National High School where she developed and mastered her skills. Although, not all memories she had there were happy and ought to be kept she remains a happy girl. She’s been through a lot of challenges but she managed to overcome it and do more and pursue the things she wanted to achieve. Her experiences, the good and bad helped her to grow as a better person and molded her for whoever she is now. As what her favorite quotation says, “Don’t let other people put you down just be yourself and be strong”. She graduated with flying colours that made her to study in Liceo de Cagayan University, a prestigious University in the city because of the scholarship granted to her, indeed t’was the fruit of her endeavor.
In her current school, she’s one of the top students; she excels and gets a lot of attention. She’s very competitive, everyone who knows her would agree on that. She’s very studious and special mention to her 98 slides in her power point presentation for her report. She considers these as her greatest accomplishment; to be able to pursue her degree and maintain her scholarship.
Behind her achievements, there are people who help and inspire Teresa. Her mother, her favourite family member is really the one who has been there all the times to support, to guide, inspires and love her. Her most influential teacher is Mr Ignatius Joseph N. Estroga, her college adviser and friend. Sir Jo plays a big part in her college journey; he molded her to be a better version of herself, supported her to go out to her comfort zone, to discover and never be afraid of trying something new, she’s able to share what distresses her mind, her worries, heartaches, and also what makes her happy, what she’s been up to and her wildest imaginations.
Acquiring knowledge alone did not give a complete happiness in college that is why she has her treasured best friends. She calls them her “Tres Marias”. She loves them and they love her too. They accept her for who she is; her flaws, her personality, and everything about her. If there is someone who knew Teresa the most, aside from her mother and Sir Jo, it’s the “Tres Marias”.
For her friends, she’s very friendly and sometimes annoying to be with because she never stops talking especially when she loves the topic. She’s loudmouthed but she has a beautiful voice. She’s oozing with confidence it’s like she was born to be a superstar. No question to that because she’s a very good actress. Her wild imaginations and creative ideas is the product of reading novels watching k-dramas.
She’s like an earth worm poured with salt, she cannot just stay in one place, she goes around, loves to walk where her feet is taking her. But her heart is taking a step closer to her dreams. She wanted to be a successful person in the profession she chose which is teaching. “I want to be the kind of teacher that not only inspires students but also I want to be the best that I can be to be able to mold young ones be the best version of themselves”, she said. Her wildest dream is to travel; to see different places and do lots of adventure. She reveries to go where her heart find solace and pleasure.
As a student who is striving hard, she becomes very busy that she tends to miss her role as a big sister to her siblings; to spent time and to help them with their tasks. She excels in school but she feels she’s a failure when it comes to being a sister. Failure is simply an opportunity to begin again, it’s not too late.
Her heart is as soft as a cotton ball and as fragile as a glass, it must be handled with care. She falls in love easily and ended up being in the depths of solitude and left with a heart shattered into pieces. Others say that she’s just being assuming that’s why she’s hurting but is it wrong to trust and to look at the possibility of being together with the man she likes? What could she do? It is a man’s nature to be sweet, caring, and be able to feel you are loved but you are really not. Falling in love easily was her weakness and admitted that it was the biggest obstacle she overcame. Yes! She’s able to control her feelings and to take care of her fragile heart. Choosing the perfect one is not easy and love should be unconditional but in God’s perfect time it will come and maybe hers will be the most beautiful love story ever told.
Teresa’s meant to fly high because of having such amazing personality, talent, and skills but it seems that it’s her own deed that averts her from spreading her wings and fly. Chains were clung to her feet and the window to positivity is sealed by pessimism and for her it’s her worst enemy. Teresa’s known to be happy go lucky, confident, smart and willing to take the risk but there are also times she doubts her own ability but she’s changed now, more stronger she could ever imagine. She takes refuge to her hero, God Almighty. God is the center of her life and the strength of her heart. Her role models, her Parents for being good to them, for the sacrifices they make, and for the hundred folds of love.
Those who just knew a few about her is just like reading the preface of her story. She is more than just the source of laughter in the classroom, the hard working girl with 98 slides, the assuming, annoying, over acting and talkative girl, the ponytail girl with brown complexion who loves wearing black. She is far more interesting than what meets the eye. Behind every smile, tears, hard works, achievements is a story to tell and those who are willing to unveil it will truly understand and love the mademoiselle branded as the dream girl, Maria Teresa Cagmat.
