Book review #1, Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow
Sharp teeth was a book I happened upon by chance. It has been years since I’ve read a physical book and recently I picked up a library card so it was the first thing I grabbed. I read the back synopsis and thought "cool a werewolf book" so checked it out and finished it recently.
When first opening the book i was surprised and intrigued, lo and behold the entire novel is written in poetry style of free verse. surprisingly, this style works very well for the story and it can be summed up in four words…… sex, drugs, murder and dogs. They are described as an ancient race of lycanthropes who can shift at will, thing is not all of them are wolves. one of the main characters lark, is a big black dog I'm assuming akin to a german shepherd type so they switch between calling them, dogs, wolves and even coyotes.
Honestly, if you're into mafia type stories, gang/packs are fighting over modern day l.a. (with mentions of mexico in there) within these verses is a interesting story and by far my favorite was Anthony the dog catcher. if you can get past the poetry type writing its definitely an entertaining and dark ride that i enjoyed. it has a wide variety of characters from one pack to another, to even a cop and an innocent dog owner bonnie. i got the ending i wanted and feel thoroughly satisfied. i give it a 8/10 if I'm being honest. its the best book i could've started with in my journey of returning to physical media.

it's actually okay to not read for a while. it's okay to only read one or two books a month. it's okay to not have a yearly reading goal. it's okay to read books that aren't all over the internet. it's okay to get books from the library or kindle and not buy a copy after.
