I’ve never understood why people get so up in arms about annotating or dog-earing or cracking the spines of your own damn books. writing is a thinking process I’m trying to learn. This is the point of owning your own books

Nothing against jonsatin, but I can't believe jonsatin is the popular yaoi night's watch ship when my boy pypar has been dropping hints that he's dtf to an oblivious grenn for five long slutty books

cersei is crashing out because of the most straightforward prophecy in the series (you will be queen. your husband will cheat on you. your children will die. you will die) she wouldn't last an hour in the shoes of daenerys targaryen who has received a series of increasingly concerning and cryptic prophecies from like 3 different sources just in the last 2 years

35yo catelyn stark thinking of herself as a shrivelled old woman with one foot in the grave and 33yo jaime lannister brooding about having 3 white hairs on his beard and acting like an old battle-worn soldier reminiscing about his glory days... they're like 15yo twitter users who think anyone over the age of 21 is a senior citizen
girl you're taylor swift years old stop complaining about your knee pain and go hit the club
#meanwhile tywin was telling cersei that she's too young to remain unmarried and to go have more kids#anti ageism king

It’s disturbing how people always want to bring up Dany’s dead male ancestors, but never her female ancestors. They want her to be the scapegoat for the actions of long dead men whom she’s never met, but ignore the enduring tradition of suffering and suppressed Targaryen women, that she is actively subverting…almost all Targaryen women after the conqueror’s wives (and we can argue all day about how much power or autonomy even they had, tbh) were passed over in some way or another in favor of a man, many losing their lives in the process, or enduring sexual violence, forced birth, unimaginable horrors, and in Rhaenyra’s case a bloody, terrible war. All for the crime of being born women. Daenerys is not the sacrificial lamb that all of her male ancestors’ sins are transubstantiated onto, that is such a tired, lazy, and misogynistic way to look at her story…she is the breaker of generational chains for her female ancestors. She is the star after the tower. The empress of the dawn. She is hope and healing, not destruction and rage. Dragons plant no trees, true, but Dany does.

I feel so bad for myrcella like imagine you're a 10 year old chess prodigy who only wants to be cute and hang out with her friends but you end up losing like half of your face because your boyfriend's hot sister convinced your newest father figure that you would be a good president (you would)
AND ALSO you and your siblings are doomed to die in childhood because your dumbass loser mother who you haven't seen in like 2 years received a cursed prophecy from a circus magician when she was a child (???) free myrcella man wtf

finally finished my byantine icon theon portrait! i decided to go with a plain gold background and no halo because he is bey no means a saint. i'll add some notes in about the composition because i had so much fun on my research
the text translates to "THEON THE BETRAYER" because i feel that betrayal is a key part of his story. while i personally don't consider his betrayals that bad, his internal monologue is tainted by guilt because of them. he "betrays" his family by becoming a stark, the starks by taking winterfell, and betrays himself at every turn. so far his story has been one of betrayal and he's now beginning his redemption (to himself, at least).
his hands are crossed over his chest as this pose typically symbolizes repentance and humility. i felt like it fits his current position in the story. he's holding three arrows to represent the three betrayals i mentioned earlier, arrows can represent specific instances of suffering (see mary and the seven arrows) so i wanted to use them here too. also helps that he is an archer and i like drawing arrows. crossed arms also indicate defensiveness which i feel fits him because he's always covering up his true feelings with a mask of pride to protect himself.
scale armor because ironborn are a seafaring culture and it kind of looks like fish scales, used green and brown (earth tones) to show the dissonance between the sea and greenlands.
there's a very small stark wolf on his brooch to contrast with the kraken on his shoulder. wanted to have some of that identity issue in the portrait too. the metal components of the armor are rusting to indicate corruption.
used a mix of stark and greyjoy colors throughout the outfit
red droplets on the collar because ramsay is described as wearing a red drop earring. needed to include some foreshadowing about the bolton stuff.
averted gaze to symbolize shame and inability to face his actions
anyways i really like this piece and hope yall do too! was very fun to crack out my greek, it's gotten rusty since i haven't done much writing recently.

i do find it interesting how queasy ppl become when george actually uses real very bad ppl as examples when trying to explain what he is getting at w the issue of redemption and its exploration in his story. like yeah thats what an actual mature exploration of redemption is… the question is can someone like that be redeemed? what does it take to be forgiven after that? is the possibility of it even there? like it is about truly vile figures here and their capacity to change and what that means. him using those examples is not supposed to answer the question itself for u about the arcs in the books lol
