Yamaguchi Bed
This is a Yamaguchi style bed, no mechanical fastenings used, not 1 screw. ] Made with reclaimed tropical hardwood from old wooden houses. I was fascinated by the idea of making a bed without mechanical hardware, and in this project got the chance to do exactly that. Finished with Linseed oil and Canuba wax.

Where it all begins
In Malaysia there is a lot of wood from old houses stashed away in ‘junkyards’ like this. The wood species are all mixed up, so its a bit of a lucky packet, as in you don’t know what you are getting until you cut it. Which can be frustrating but also exciting. All nails are included unfortunately, so before milling these need to be removed. I use a handheld metal detector to sniff out the rusty nails, removing them can be a tricky process and the nails always leave there mark on the wood with a dark coloration caused by the oxidized nail.

Queen Size poster bed
Made for the Tembusu House at the Dusun, Negri Sembilan. This bed is made from Resak, Balau and Nyantoh all upcycled from old Kampung houses
Note. Learning experience. Origninally I made this bed without braces at the top, and it was little bit wobbly. After adding the braces though it was solid with little to no movement.
