Social Media Addiction With Statistics!
As you know social media addiction is serious issue that people are facing it. That’s why I would like to share some statistics about social media usage to demonstrate how serious it is.
1. 3.1 BILLION PEOPLE ARE SOCIAL MEDIA USERS WORLDWIDE
As of 2018, 3.1 billion people — roughly one-third of the global population — use social media. Globally, the number of social media users has grown by 13% (362 million) in the past year.
Increasingly, social media is also accessed on the go. Of the world’s social media users, 2.9 billion are active mobile social media users (94% of all users on social media platforms).

Internet and social media addictions continue to grow as our dependence on technology increases. Estimates posit that over 210 million people suffer from internet and social media addictions worldwide.

A 2018 study found that teens who spend 5 hours per day using their phones were almost twice as likely to exhibit depressive symptoms than counterparts who dedicated only 1 hour on their phones.
Interestingly, the relationship between excessive mobile use and depression appears to be strongly linked to gender, with 58% more females than males experiencing depressive symptoms.
4. YOUNG, SINGLE FEMALES ARE ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA MORE THAN ANY OTHER GROUP
A recent study containing over 23,500 participants between the ages of 16 and 88 found that being a young, single female was most strongly associated with displaying addictive social media behavior.

Are you ‘digital immigrant’ or ‘digital native’?
Today I would like to talk about these new terms. I was doing researches for my Digital Media and Society essay and I came across these new words. As you know, technology made a big change for the new generations. It became a very popular topic for psychologists and sociologists. That resulted in the use of labels such as ‘digital native’, ‘the net generation’, ‘Google generation’ or ‘the millennials’. These highlights are defining the lives of young people at the age of new technologies.
What are the differences between ‘digital natives’ and the ‘digital immigrants’. ‘Digital natives’ are generally born after the 1980s and they are comfortable in the digital age, because they grew up using technology, but ‘digital immigrants’ are those who are born before 1980s and they are fearful about using technology. ‘Digital immigrants’ are the older crew, they weren’t raised in a digital environment. The term digital immigrant mostly applies to individuals who were born before the spread of the digital technology and who were not exposed to it at an early age. Digital natives are the opposite of digital immigrants, they have been interacting with technology from childhood.
In my opinion, adaptation of digital age should not be an element of a fear. People could be open-minded to learn new things. I’m a digital immigrant in computer science field. That’s why, I’ve started to learn web authoring and I’m trying my best. We are homo-sapiens, learning and improvement is our nature.

Digital Media and Politics: Effects of the Great Information and Communication Divides
Hello, today I would like to talk about Digital Media and Politics. I read an article named Effects of the Great Information and Communication Divides written by Chen, Hsuan Ting. I’ll share with you my reflection views based on this article. If you are interested in, you can find a link of article at the end of my blog.
Firstly, Digital Media has become a most significant platform for citizens who want to share their individual opinions. In other word people are able to find like-minded individuals that support same ideology. Political polarization is very easy via Facebook, Twitter etc. It is really cognitive, affective and behavioral connection way in these days.
1. Mobilization and Political Behavior
The role of digital media is significant for social activism, political participation and mobilizing large-scale social protest around the world. People can exchange their opinions with each other and the acceleration of access to news is incredible. It provides development of democracy and there is positive relationship between digital media and citizens’ participatory behaviors.
2. Misinformation
The development of digital media technologies and the fragmentation of information have facilitated the spread of misinformation and fake news.

Learning HTML
During lab sessions, I don’t realize how time pass. In my opinion, focusing is the most important thing while adding tags. As a beginner understanding the structure of a page with markup is vital part, otherwise it might be complicated. The first screen shot I shared was my previous worksheet. I used line breaks and its tag is <br> that provides to start a new line.
The second screen shot I shared is my another worksheet. Adding lists, images and links are remarkable tasks. In my opinion, organizing folders and its name accurately are significant part, in the opposite case it may not work as it happened to me. The most exited side for me is refreshing the page and to see the code running successfully. These are baby steps but it is the tips on coding pleasure. That is the reason I want to learn more and improve myself.
I downloaded the text editor Atom and I’ve made practicing more handier. Atom is a desktop application built with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Node.js integration. Atom is also available for Windows and Mac OSX and free. It’s easy to customize and style Atom and smart autocompletion, multiple panes are the other features. I enjoyed it. Learning is a infinite journey and some programs can make this journey enjoyable.

Virtual Reality
Facebook’s Zuckerberg isn’t giving up on Oculus or virtual reality!
Virtual reality is more than video games that creates different world for users. The concept of VR technology is really important for Facebook because Zuckemberg believes that it is more than a doorway to games. It is about interactive platform that people can connect each other by using VR technology. Therefore, Facebook invested more than 2 billion dollar for then-startup Oculus VR in 2014 and they aim to make progress. Zuckemberg also argue that it is mission that Facebook should do it for people. VR technology might be the next tectonic shift in tech. In my opinion, it is dystopian idea because loosing reality dynamics makes people more isolated.
