narrator is really fixated on the idea that marla is In Love with tyler/himself (Tyler thinks this too, actually) but there's no actual evidence for that?? Even in the mean haiku he thinks of for marla he thinks she's saying he 'loves her' when she's just asking if she can stay over.. marla explicitly says she 'doesnt want to tell anyone she loves because she doesn't want to scare them' and calls Narrator to help. do i think she loves him? yeah a little bit. he saved her life. she doesnt have friends. they go on cute little garden dates and she watches him kill a man and she tries to convince him not to die. but not In Love with him. Very different!!!
