A thousand shades of green and blue in the clear warm waters of the Indian Ocean, white silky sand, swaying coconut trees... Kenya is at the same longitude of the Seychelles, the Maldives and Bali. With more than 500 kms of coast, most of which sheltered by the coral reef, is a real beach paradise. ⠀ ⠀ If you want to know more about the best beach spots of the country, watch this space. The new blog post is coming out on Friday.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ------------⠀ #styleforwanderlust #nestingabroad #nabateatravelog #livemoremagic #iamatraveler #passionpassport #mytinyatlas #cntraveler #beautifuldestinations #BBCtravels #wanderfolks #guardiancities #tlpics #tasteintravel #guardiantravelsnaps #openmyworld #darlingescapes #visualoflife #adventuresalways #dametraveler #traveldeeper #theglobewanderer #theauthenticfeeling #theartofslowliving #lifeandthyme #thehappynow #adventuresahead #nothingisordinary

There is nothing like a walk on an deserted beach alone with your thoughts. ⠀ ⠀ The sound of the waves, the dogs running back and forth, the sand under your feet. Space everywhere you eyes can roam, too vast for the limited human eyesight. Guessing where the ships you can spot in the distance are heading to, where the fish are going to swim next. Are they staying, are they moving far? What will happen to the grains of sand you are standing on when the tyde comes in and wash them away, into the sea? Will they still be somewhere near tomorrow? Will someone else in days or months step on them, in some other beach, in some other country?⠀ ⠀ How vast is all this world we live in? How extraordinary is our imagination and mind even to contemplate the idea of holding it all in? Discussing it, philosphying over it. Is this what we call divine? Is this eternity?⠀ ⠀ Does any of you ever get lost in these thoughts when you walk alone at the beach? It happens to me quite often, while it doesn't happen if I am walking, let's say, in the woods or in a city road. Must the vastisty of the ocean and the sky to ispire me. I wonder. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ #littlestoriesofmylife #momentsofmine #aquietstyle #verilymoment #inspiremyinstagram #thatauthenticfeeling #seekthesimplicity #feelfreefeed #theartofslowliving #postitfortheaesthetic #momentslikethese #alifeofintention #capturingcolour #lovelysquares #theeverydayproject #documentlife #petitejoys #tv_living #thehappynow #simplepleasures #livethelittlethings #momentslikethis #darlingmovement #pursuepretty #farmtotable #todayslovely #poetryofsimplethings #livecolorfully

“Why is it you can never hope to describe the emotion Africa creates? You are lifted. Out of whatever pit, unbound from whatever tie, released from whatever fear. You are lifted and you see it all from above.”⠀ ⠀ Francesca Marciano⠀ ⠀ It is indeed very difficult to talk about Africa to someone who has never been there. I remember the times when I used to visit my family in Italy and try to catch up with friends and family. So often I could feel we were lost in translation, regardless of the fact that I was speaking their same language. Our life was moving on different dimensions, my daily experiences so far from theirs.⠀ ⠀ But whenever someone came to visit me in Kenya, then they knew. Africa had worked their magic on them. ⠀ Bewitched and forever longing those emotions, they were returning home treasuring that new vantage point, that will be soon lost once home, but that they knew where to find, a place where life looks different and you are suddently free to think and live the most authentic way you can. ⠀ ⠀ You, bare, stripped down to the bones, exposed, real, pure; brave, unaffected, FREE.⠀ ⠀ For most, Africa is a powerful medicine it should be regularly assumed to enhance anyone's life experience. For others, it's the oxygen we need to go on.⠀ ⠀ Is there a place you have visited or lived in that has a special uplifting power? That made you feel liberated and freed from any weigth that was holding you down? I'd love to find out and maybe go there!⠀ ⠀ Discover so many other reasons why you should visit Kenya on the blog. “There are as many Africas as there are books about Africa — and as many books about it as you could read in a leisurely lifetime. Whoever writes a new one can afford a certain complacency in the knowledge that his is a new picture agreeing with no one else’s, but likely to be haugthily disagreed with by all those who believed in some other Africa. … Being thus all things to all authors, it follows, I suppose, that Africa must be all things to all readers.”⠀ ⠀ Beryl Markham ⠀ ⠀ Beryl was a British-born Kenyan aviator, adventurer, racehorse trainer and author of “West with the Night”. An extraordinary woman who decided to make this extraodinary country her home. ⠀ ⠀ Kenya has always attracted an eclectic group of extravagant people, won over by the endless freedom and a lifestyle that is hard to find elsewhere. Opinionated, skilful and resourceful: from bush pilots, cattle ranch owners, camp managers, to entrepreneurs, they are all part of a special breed of people that can entertain you till the early morning hours with incredible stories and anecdotes, with their fighter/pioneer style and their mischievous sense of humour. They are passionate about the country and about conservation, often incredibly knowledgeable of its history, geography, flora and fauna and all united by a great spirit of adventure. ⠀ ⠀ Kenya was and always will be my home, the place where my children were born, children of Africa, where they took their first steps and explored the world with wonder.⠀ ⠀ Read more about my Kenya on the blog. "One cannot resist the lure of Africa".⠀ ⠀ Rudyard Kipling⠀ ⠀ And I certainly coudn't. ⠀ ⠀ If there is one place that has changed me profoundly and forever, that is Africa, a continent torn by contradictions, where everything is either too big or too small and too powerful; where the light is brighter, the darkness darker, the scents are stronger and silence is louder. It might not change your life as it changed mine, but it certainly won’t leave you indifferent or unchanged.⠀ ⠀ Read more on Africa side effects on the blog. "Traveling... it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Ibn Battuta, the Maroccan scholar who lived in the 14th century and spent 30 years travelling across Africa, the Middle East, India and Southern Asia, seeking knowledge "even to the borders of China" so expressed one of the greatest gifts of the wanderers.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Sit at a table or around a fire with one of them for an evening and they will transport you in a Thousand and One Nights world of tales of people, places and ideas.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Travel and you will have a story to tell. Have I told you how much I love the country? How I feel inspired and regenerated when I live surrounded by meadows and forests as to buildings and cement? I know I probably did, but bear with me, singing the beauty of country living is my favourite song.⠀ ⠀ I have just moved out of Milan, direction Kent, England. What a change! Kent is known to be the gardern of England because of its relative abundance of fruit-growing and hop gardens, the precious flowers flavouring the ale English love so much and that flows in rivers daily in pubs and restaurants all over the island. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Twenty-eight per cent of the county forms part of two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the North Downs and The High Weald where I live. The Wealdean landscape is unique for the presence of ancient wooded areas, small fields and scattered farmsteads that have been present on the territory since the Middleages, for the bucolic rolling hills and the river valleys. ⠀ ⠀ There is a sense of remotness here that is absent in the surrounding Low Weald and the more urbanised south-east of England. It feels like you are in a secluded part of the country, where villages, hamlets and towns are more or less what they were centuries ago and the farmlands and the woods have been defining the landscape since the dawn of human civilisation. I have so much to explore! ⠀ ⠀ This weekend started with an 18 km walk. Not all of it was planned since we kind of got slightly sidetracked! The list of places to visit is already 5 pages long. Next week watch out for Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens and Rye posts on the blog. Don't want to tell you much about them now. Just that they are two amazing little jewels you should add to your list if you haven't been there yet.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #styleforwanderlust #nabateatravelog #theartofslowliving #theenglishcountryside #myenglishcountryside #lifeintheslowlane #nothingisordinary #littlemomentsofmylife #nestingabroad #livemoremagic #athomeintheworld #expatslife #beautifuldestinations #cntraveler #guardiantravelsnaps #bbctravels #huffposttravels #seasonspoetry #seekinspirecreate

Moving is extremely stressful and unsettling. Yet, everything has a positive side and there is nothing more excting than getting to know a place with the slow pace only a resident can enjoy. No rush to cover everything, taking your time, exploring the little cafès and the tiny shops. It's a privilege and that is what you have to tell yourself while packing and unpacking and when you feel like you should have never started in the first place. I'd know, since I have been there multiple times and if you are about to move or thinking to, head over to the blog and take a look at my The International Move Practical Guide, useful also if you are moving within the same country (link in bio).⠀ ⠀ You can find more thoughts on moving, living abroad and settling wherever life takes you on my other blog post: Bouncing off the map (link in bio), becasue that is what I have been doing for the past 15 years. ⠀ ⠀ Presently, I am enjoying my new home: Kent, with several excursions into East Sussex since I live at the border between the two South Eastern counties of England. Lots of wonky cottages, quintessentially English villages, countryside and lovely seaside towns like Rye where I spent again the weekend, enjoying a beautiful meal at the Mermaid Inn and walking the dogs at Camber beach, considered one of the most beautiful of the UK. It was an area of smugglers and outlaws, the proximity to the sea obviously helping the illecit trade. It's also an area of ghosts and norman archicture, beautiful gardens and castles and literary celebrities. More to come soon on the blog! Stay tuned. I'll see you soon.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ #styleforwanderlust #travelgoals #beautifuldestinations #passionpassport #iamatraveler #exploretheworld #exploretheglobe #livemoremagic #wanderlust #travel #travelgram #instatravel #traveldeeper #mytinyatlas #travelphotography #tlpicks #stayandwander #neverstopexploring #dametraveler #roamtheplanet #exploretocreate #instapassport #welivetoexplore #darlingescapes #welltravelled #worldtraveler #igtravel #theartofslowliving #makemoremagic #creativelifehappylife

I have two favourites when it comes to nature: the absolute wilderness and the gentle countryside. I am not a mountain girl and I am not a seaside girl either. I like anywhere where I am immersed in nature but the wilderness and the countryside are my places of election: where human presence is totally absent and where man and nature have worked hand in hand to curve and design the natural and spontaneuos evolution of a place. ⠀ ⠀ Why is that? I don't really have the answer to the question but I knew that if I was given a chance again to move out of the big city I would have moved to the countryside. I have lived in the wilderness during part of my Kenyan years. With kids, that wasn't an option right now. ⠀ ⠀ I will miss the city and all it has to offer. But, I have no regrets for having moved to the High Wealds AOB (of outstanding natural beauty). Kent is actually already proving full of surprises that I can't wait to share with you.⠀ ⠀ I am ready to start a weekend full of explorations. I have a couple of places to get back to for more and a couple of new ones to discover. ⠀ ⠀ Stay tuned for a deep dive in South England countryside and beaches. In the meanwhile, if you want to know about my move back to the UK during these troubled times, head over to the blog where I talk about it in one of my latest posts: Bouncing off the map.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #styleforwanderlust #nabateatravelog #theartofslowliving #theenglishcountryside #myenglishcountryside #lifeintheslowlane #nothingisordinary #littlemomentsofmylife #nestingabroad #livemoremagic #athomeintheworld #expatslife #beautifuldestinations #cntraveler #guardiantravelsnaps #bbctravels #huffposttravels #hawkhurst #thehighwealds #kent #southeastengland #wonkycottages #countrychic #englishcottage #countrylife #eastsussex #cranbrook #creativecountryside #beautifulliving

Everyone has a love story to tell. ⠀ ⠀ Mine it's been the ongoing love affair with Africa and Kenya in particular. It started even before I'd ever been there. A bit like someone who falls in love with a novel's character or a pen pal friend...⠀ ⠀ The moment I stepped on this fertile soil at the foot of Mount Kenya, Karen Blixen’s words played back, whispering to my soul… “In the highlands you woke up in the morning and thought: Here I am, where I ought to be, because here I belong…” and no sentence has ever felt as true in my entire life. ⠀ ⠀ What kept me there for 12 years and kept me going back it’s certainly what is known as Mal d’Afrique, an incurable illness that, on the highlands plains, I can feel stronger than anywhere else. ⠀ ⠀ If you want to know more about the countless reasons why this country is so special and it should be a must go to on your bucket list, head over to the blog and check my latest blog post (link in bio).⠀ ⠀ Have you ever been to Kenya? If yes, what do you think about my beloved East Africa paradise? Love to know what was your experience like.⠀ ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ------------⠀ #styleforwanderlust #travelgoals #beautifuldestinations #passionpassport #iamatraveler #exploretheworld #exploretheglobe #livemoremagic #wanderlust #travel #travelgram #instatravel #traveldeeper #mytinyatlas #travelphotography #tlpicks #stayandwander #neverstopexploring #dametraveler #roamtheplanet #exploretocreate #instapassport #welivetoexplore #darlingescapes #welltravelled #worldtraveler #igtravel #theartofslowliving #makemoremagic #creativelifehappylife

I can't believe how long I have been away from this platform. I missed you guys! Truth is I have moved back to England. A country I utterly adore and I am so excited to discover anew. It’s been hard this time to leave. Harder. I had an incredible turmoil of emotions to deal with before I could actually start enjoying the new adventure. Fears, doubts, anxiety, excitement. A cocktail I drank for weeks every day and every night. I needed time to myself. I needed to regroup. I bit myself up because I should be better at this. I have done it so many times. Because I know that the expat life is the only life I have and there is no turning back from there. Because I know I will never belong anywhere completely and my home can only be an immaterial place out of space that I carry with me. Changing countries to live in is unsettling. There is no pill to prevent this. I am settled now and ready for this new chapter. This time, more than others, I have been impressed by the psychological and existential turmoil that moving house and country can provoque in people. I wrote some of my thoughts on this in a new blog post where I also share reflections about belonging, cultural identity, migration and finding a home wherever you are, for all those who are relocating or thinking to, for all those dreaming to live abroad but too scared to take the final step. There are also a few tips to make your new house feel like home as fast as possible. I would love to hear your stories of relocations or dreams about relocations. They say the three more stressful things in life are the death of a love one, divorce and MOVING! Can you believe it? Tell me what is your experience? Do you go easy with it? Do you feel stressed only thinking about it? #styleforwanderlust #nestingabroad #nabateatravelog #livemoremagic #iamatraveler #passionpassport #mytinyatlas #cntraveler #beautifuldestinations #BBCtravels #wanderfolks #guardiancities #tlpics #tasteintravel #guardiantravelsnaps #openmyworld #darlingescapes #visualoflife #adventuresalways #dametraveler #traveldeeper #theglobewanderer #theauthenticfeeling #theartofslowliving #lifeandthyme #thehappynow #adventuresahead #nothingisordinary

An adventurous life does not necessarily mean climbing mountains, swimming with sharks, or jumping off cliffs. Thinking of Japan a lot at the moment. Particularly becasue in the next few days I will start packing and I really need to enter into a minimalistic mood, just the one Japanese people do so well. I kind of suck at it instead. Are you good at living minimal? There is a part of me who loves it and knows how lighter you feel and how more relaxed life is when you don't overload yourself with things, but there is also another part of me who needs to be surrounded by things, becasue they have an emotional value, they hold memories, they are part of me. Without them, home doesn't really feel like home. And moreover, becasue I move so much, I need to carry part of my previous lives with me, so that I feel I haven't lost them completely. Do you know what I mean? Are you all super good at being minimal, wise, practical and logical all the time? How much your emotions weigh on the way you handle certain parts of your life? I'll try my best to be good and behave myself but I could do with some company here... . . . . . #styleforwanderlust #nabateatravelog #theauthenticfeeling #makeitblissful #littlebitsof_life #creativityfound #theartofslowliving #creativehappylife #wabisabi #finditliveit #verilymoment #lifeandthyme #pursuepretty #theverydayproject #thehappynow #calmversation #bedeeplyrooted #seekthesimplicity #lifeintheslowlane #allwhatisbeautiful #darlingweekend #heartandhustle #aquietstyle #soloverly #stylemepretty #myunicornlife #morningslikethese #acolorstory #afternoonwander #smallhappinesses

Have you ever thought you had a plan? I have. Several times. This past month I have been busy trying to figure out my new plan after the Italian schooling system demanded I put my children through some ridiculous process that would have cost them two extra years of school. When they say welcome home... So, I guessed I couldn't settle back home after all. So, we are moving back to the UK and after a month looking for a new house for my little family, we are almost ready to go. At least mentally. Because international relocations are never easy. So much to do, so much to plan and organise, so many expectations and anxious apprehensions for a future that is mainly unknown. Obviously, this is part of any relocation, yet when you leave a country for another, everything seems to get more intense. If you are about to relocate or thinking to do so, I have just added to the blog a practical guide that might help you navigate the process and I will be adding more materials in the course of the next weeks about movers, storage facilities, renting out properties and more. What would you be more interested to know about moving house and moving country? What is most scary, stressful or difficult for you? I'd love to hear what are your challenges. Maybe we can help each other here! At the end of the day, the opportunities and the experience we are about to have are going to widely compensate all the inconveniences and a little extra organisation can help us to enjoy more the entire process instead of feeling constantly traumatised by it all. I am actually looking forward. What about you? Where is life taking you next? . . . . . #styleforwanderlust #nabateatravelog #theauthenticfeeling #makeitblissful #littlebitsof_life #postitfortheaesthetic #theartofslowliving #theeverygirl #wabisabi #finditliveit #verilymoment #lifeandthyme #pursuepretty #flashofdelight #thehappynow #calmversation #bedeeplyrooted #seekthesimplicity #lifeintheslowlane #allwhatisbeautiful #darlingweekend #heartandhustle #aquietstyle #soloverly #stylemepretty #myunicornlife #morningslikethese #acolorstory #afternoonwander #smallhappinesses

When I first visited the lovely town of Rye in East Sussex I would have never thought that one day I would have lived just 20 minutes from it. Life is indeed full of surprises and mine somehow doesn't want me to stop roaming the planet and exploring new places. During these past few weeks of silence, I have been busy trying to find yet a new place to nest abroad. This time it wasn't really planned, has it ever been? so it absorbed all my energies. I have been quiet here, I know. Our new home is now secured in the quintessentially English town of Hawkhurst. This time the choice has fallen on Kent, the garden of England and I can't be happier to go back to the countryside and leave the big city behind. There is yet another international relocation to plan so you'll be hearing a lot about it but after the initial shock, I am ready for this new chapter. Thinking that I'll be able to meet my friends in this little cafe makes me smile. I shall keep it in mind while packing. I have moved so many times in my life that I swing between being used to it and feeling tired. It's both the feelings at the same time. Hard to explain. Do you have conflicting feelings about moving? Changing country? Starting over? Are fear and fatigue stopping you? Or the urge to explore wins you over? I guess you know what's my answer but I would love to know how other people feel about this. It's definitely something that has dominated my life so it's kind of relevant... . . . . . #styleforwanderlust #nestingabroad #nabateatravelog #livemoremagic #IamATraveler #passionpassport #mytinyatlas #dametraveler #planetdiscovery #exploringtheglobe #traveldeeper #roamtheplanet #theglobewanderer #welltravelled #cntraveler #letsgosomewhere #takemethere #travelIG #alwaysgo #beautifuldestinations #theeverygirltravels #wonderlust #wanderlusters #traveltocreate #athomeintheworld #visitrye #visiteastsussex
