second game cover design
I tried to switch things up with this cover, I used one of the enemies as opposed to the main protagonist, I used more of a red bright colour scheme. I’m not hugely happy with this cover but I think there are good parts to it. This cover does portray the horror but in a more exploitative manner, I think the colours would catch someones eye, however I don’t feel it would show that this is a sci fi game.
I changed the game company logos to black so they were clearer.

Story Base
2098 The protagonist Sarah Freeman has a degree in engineering and scientology. She is failing to find a job in city 1.0.1 Mars until she finally receives a job offer which would require her stay down on earth for six months mining for coal and crude oil. She accepts the job and is excited to move. You then play as her walking toward the shuttle in 3rd person to leave and go to earth, opening credits then play, as the shuttle is flying down to earth.
You are given a futuristic sat nav working as a map and in 3rd person have to find the bunker. This section tells the player how to move and interact etc giving hints. Once the player finds the bunker they can interact with the recycler, the information readers explaining how certain things work. The next mission is to get across the started mine and scan out the resources however the player will come along a mutant which they need to hide from and ultimately kill. The next part is along the surface which will be roughly around three missions lengthwise. The player will do the usual stuff whilst also coming across a mysterious man who has lived through the change in climate. He tells the player about how this was man’s doing even though they tried to cover it up and the mutants are the result.
From then on, the player will continue collecting fossil fuels until they realise the man is correct when scanning the radiation. Then the player needs to scavenge parts to build a communication signal to mars. The player will then see the corpses of the previous Minor’s. toward the end they will find a secret facility where the people in charge of covering up climate change are hiding. Sarah/the player is given the choice to either continue keeping this a secret, take the materials to Mars and receive the two million credits or, reveal the truth and steal a shuttle to get to Mars before it’s too late.
The games focus is on climate change as the earth has been completely radiated and dried out. The title Turmoil refers to a great disturbance, in the earth. The game would play as a 3rd person survival shooter.

Why do people love space?
I think the main reason people love space is simply because it’s part of the unknown. Fantasy is an incredible genre but we know that it won't happen whereas with Sci-fi as a genre there is a possibility of it existing because we just don’t know what's out there. For instance we are a planet in one star system in the Milky Way, there are at least 20 other star systems in the Milky Way with around 5 planets in each, combine that with the fact there are around 10 other known galaxies. The idea of there being other civilisations is an incredible one and I believe if there are we will one day find them. The main cause however is simply that we don’t know what's out there.

Game cover
For my game cover I took the image of my character and stuck it over the ps4 case, for the font I needed to find an appropriate fit so I looked on DAfont.com and found just what I was looking for.
I looked at some horror games like Dead Space which had blood splattered on the logo to give a sense of what was to come.

The existing studios I feel could be involved with a game like this were Arkane and Bethesda. Overall I’m very happy with how this turned out, it’s not perfect but I think the character looks good being hidden by the light, the logo I could see actually being a logo.

Real protective exploration suits
Hazmat suits
Hazmat suits are very important to my game idea as the whole point is that the world has been radiated and Hazmat suits protect you from exactly that. I've incorporated some of these things such as a little air purifier on the helmet and a backpack containing important gasses for survival.
Diving equipment is similar when it comes to oxygen tanks as relying on oxygen is a big thing. The skin tight suit is for water resistance however my character won’t be venturing under water so that won’t be essential. the diving suit definitely has effected designs as it’s specifically design on the basis of practicality and survival.

Star Wars
Star Wars is the most well known sci fi film and the reason it’s gained popularity over the years is because of it’s emphasis on the characters. Every world is similar to somewhere on earth. Mos Eisley is exactly like a western town with people getting into fights and there being a canteena as oppose to a saloon. It was a nice take on space because it showed and focused on other civiliations and not just the humans only just seeing these new creatures.
This film was also huge in portraying women as real people as Leia actually thinks for herself and doesn’t just go along with everything unlike previous films where all they do is scream until the man comes to save the day. Leia also progresses throught the films which is why she's such a beloved character as she doesn’t just know absolutely everything a huge issue with the sequel trilogy. This was a take on space that didn’t feel like we were looking at a futuristic NASA expedition, it felt like we were looking at an entirely new society.

Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel is a strange character as it started out as being a man but the concept for the character has never been especially great which is why it doesn’t have the fan base of Spider-Man or The Avengers. In 1977 they introduced Ms Marvel to fight alongside, many alterations were made until finally when 2012 came along they gave in and just made Ms Marvel Captain Marvel and abandoned the male counterpart.
Captain Marvel was a fairly big deal in the comic book industry as she doesn’t wear a corset and skirt like Wonder Women she wears a suit appropriate for combat , however there's an issue I have with the suit like I do with most which is the heels. High heels always drive me up the wall because almost every female super hero still wears them and they are one incredibly impractical, and two they look ridiculous. I feel like in the past this was done for mildly sexist reasons but now it’s unnecessary so I think they do need to abandon this as when the hero's try to kick with these it looks dumb.

Tron
The concept of Tron is a world basically inside of a computer. The suits in the film are grey with lights around them in patterns similar to a motherboard. This was the first film to have some big scenes entirely made of CGI. The suits were accomplished by rotoscoping, each frame was painted over in a slow painful process but the outcome is so effective I feel it was worth it. The suits are basic with complex panels so they find that perfect even ground. The suits are somewhat similar as far as the body to mine in the sense that they are covered in panels for instance my idea has a chest piece as well as panels along the leg. This film is great and very different to most sci fi films but the art style is very clever and has inspired some things we know of today.

Coloured mutants
I added colours and shades which I feel did a good job at finalising the ideas. The mutant does look creepy with the ripped skin and fragments of body hair and the dog does look infected and angry. Overall I’m happy with how these turned out.

more detailed character
I wanted to do a refined character where the head looked realistic as the art style for the game would be realistic to add to the horror elements. I realised that when I used this for my mutants it really worked and this is a very common method in the industry.
I took the sketch I had done and simply removed the head from the body as that was the part I wanted to replace.
The one person who I thought looked similar to my character as far as the face was concerned is Margot Robbie, so I went on Pinterest and found an image of her head in the position I needed.
The first thing I did was flip it but the mouth in every photo that wasn’t straight on her mouth was open which looked incredibly awkward on my character.
Therefore I cut the mouth form this image and I extruded and cropped it to fit the original image so I would have the perfect guidelines.
I then coloured it in and had a fully formed head for the character.
I added hair to show it out of the helmet.
Then I just copied the head and added a helmet

Unfortunate spacemen
unfortunate spacemen is a multiplayer co-op game where there is a murder by some shape shifting creature. essentially you have to try and survive but you don’t know that the other astronauts are who they say they are because the could just be a shape shifter, in a way it’s similar to Among Us. The particular trailer I saw featured a female character with some of the worst voice acting I’ve heard in a while. This is somewhat similar though with the horror elements and the fact that everyone is an astronaut adds to the similarities. The trailer I saw did focus on a female protagonist which is the same as my game idea however my game would be single player.

More women in space history
Jessica Meir went to the international space station in 2019 she completed the first all female space walk, she has also studied how to grow and produce fresh food and crops in space and how the lack of gravity effects it.
Stephanie Wilson Looked at a micro gravity research project and ran tests on it from Japan. This would be incredibly important to the field as we still don’t have any form of gravity in space, in all of the sci fi films they are always walking on board space craft so to actually have that would be incredible and a huge milestone for NASA.

Women in space history
Megan McArthur
Megan McArthur flew aboard a space shuttle and assisted with the Hubble telescope, she is an aerospace engineer which is why she was picked. She is important in space history because the Hubble telescope is where we get a majority of our information about the stars and planets.
Shannon Walker worked on bio nutrients up in space for 163 days she was integrated for her problem solving in the space station of Russia. She then served as deputy acting manager of on orbit engineering. Overall she was very successful in this field and definitely an icon for women in space.

Female space exploration
The first expedition was delayed because there weren’t enough medium space suits.
Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson was a mathematician who played a vital role in the first space flight however she was also black which would’ve made it even more difficult for her to get to her position.
The first women to go to space was Valentina Tereshkova in 1963, she was a sovietand went on the Vostok 6 mission, she is the only women to complete a space mission orbiting the earth 48 times.
The interesting thing is that women have been to space earlier than I expected but you don’t really hear about them, I am the most shocked to discover that one of the people working for NASA was actually black which in those days would have been extremely uncommon.I think that where equality needs to be implemented is just in telling people about these people. For instance everyone’s heard of Buzz Aldrin but not some of these other people.

Alien
Alien is a science fiction horror film, it is similar in tone to my game idea because my game will be science fiction horror for one reason. As well as this my game idea centres around a women who is simply doing her job which will gradually change as she finds out more and more similar somewhat to Ripley in Alien who to begin with wont let the crew back on board because it is against protocol however when her friends begin dying she is a changed person which is ultimately how she ends up becoming the action hero we all know and love, so character wise similar but it’s not a rip off it’s more of an inspiration and coincidence. Overall I would say Alien was quite important when it comes to feminism and equality because we had a female lead who had to think on her feet as oppose to just screaming until the male hero came along to save the day. I think as well that this is how a strong female protagonist should be done as it makes you think I like that character not just “ oh that was a women because all men are bad”, which many films today seem to be doing. For instance in Black widow one of the men was a stupid overweight Russian with the other being evil, so for people who want equality why are sending a message which is the exact opposite.
