A Joyless Eid in Gaza

Eid is here, but it brings us nothing but more pain 💔. No new clothes 👕, no children’s laughter 😔, no scent of freshly baked sweets 🍪 filling the streets, no warm embraces between loved ones 🤲. Here in Gaza, where children should be holding their parents’ hands on their way to the playground 🎡, they are being carried lifeless to overcrowded hospitals, drenched in their own blood 🩸.

The bakeries are closed 🏚️, food is running out 🍽️, and water is scarce 🚱. For two months, the borders have been sealed 🚧, tightening the grip of starvation and slow death upon us ⚠️. There are no sweets for the children—sometimes, not even a piece of bread 🥖❌. We are not asking for much, just the right to live, to survive 🕊️.

If you are reading this, remember that families in Gaza are waiting for a meal to ease their hunger 🍲, for a child to sleep without fear or pain 😢. Please, don’t leave us alone. Even a small donation or a simple word of support can make a difference 🙏.

Thanks to the support of concerned Texans such as you, the challenge of housing affordability is on the front burner in our legislature. Key Senators and Representatives are working hard to remove unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles that stand in the way of keeping the dream of homeownership within reach for ALL deserving Texans. But they need your help. Specifically, your legislators need to hear from you by Monday, when action is expected on two bills that will protect the property rights of landowners who want to build housing that meets the needs of their communities. One of those bills, HB 3919/SB 15 prevents cities from requiring unnecessarily large lot sizes on parcels on which a landowner or developer could otherwise offer smaller lots and starter homes. It doesn’t interfere with HOA requirements, deed restrictions or building codes. It simply allows smaller homes on smaller lots in new developments. Likewise, HB 24/SB 844 restores fairness to an outdated 1987 law that allows even a minor zoning change to be effectively blocked by a small minority of adjacent landowners – preventing property owners from building what they wish on their own land. Currently, it takes only 20% of adjacent owners to protest a zoning change and send it to the city council for approval or rejection by 75% of the council.  The delay, cost and hassle caused by that small group often kills otherwise reasonable and needed housing.  HB 24/SB 844 raises the threshold for protesting a zoning change to 60% of adjacent landowners – allowing legitimate objections to be lodged without giving small groups an unfair veto power. Both of these bills are common sense measures that will remove unnecessary bureaucratic roadblocks to letting landowners offer the kinds of housing and price points our communities need to remain vibrant and prosperous. Finally, we'd like support for SB 898 that increases limits for tax-credit housing projects to adjust for inflation.

Last year I lost my uncle and his entire family in a missile attack on his displacement site in Rafah, and Al Jazeera YouTube reported.

Today, I am in pain as I miss the dearest to my heart, my father, who suffered from a stroke that caused him quadriplegia. He could not cope with the catastrophic life as we lived in a tent that was like a grave. His weak body was exposed to malnutrition as a result of not providing the necessary food for his condition, and the severe cold caused him to have a heart attack that led to his immediate death.

I wake up terrified every night. I check on my family, whom I fear will die of cold 🥶😰

And it was not limited to this, but our tent that shelters my family, children, and my brother Samer, who suffers from a chronic illness, was flooded and swept away under the dirt as a result of the heavy rains. Our tent has become worn out and does not protect us from the winds and rain ⛈️⛺

At the moment, one of the most popular social networks in the CIS countries is Telegram, which has popular groups on various topics, nothing unusual! People communicate, post their own and OTHER PEOPLE's ART, with CREDITS and LINKS TO THE AUTHORS, which is usually the norm that people follow, admins monitor this and look for art for the Daily (a.k.a. daily posts), but there are a couple of incidents that I want to warn you about.:

there is such a group as HOMESTUCK HOROSCOPES, the audience there is not small as you can see in the screenshots below.

and they themselves say that they take these artworks from their other groups in Telegram and don't even look at the author to credit them, because IT'S SO HAAAAARD🥺🥺🥺🥺 AND IT TAKES.... TIME!!!!!! My god, it's soooo hard, right?

and most importantly, CIS artists can at least still be outraged, check and see, say that their authorship should be indicated, BUT ARTISTS FROM TUMBLR / ENGLISH-SPEAKING PLATFORMS CAN NOT! you literally don't even have a way to find out about it, so, FACTUALLY they take advantage of you being unaware about the situation and steal other people's work without any consequences, ALSO including from CIS artists.

and there are many such groups and admins! and then the audience also SUPPORTS the admins by saying, "haha sigma, got them! Serves them right, and besides, it's just a Horoscope Confession! These people (who are outraged that their art is literally being stolen) are such wimps! 🙄"

so in fact, anyone who is against the admin's position will just be swept under the rug like dust, and, poof! it's your fault for pointing out the laziness of the admin, because IT'S SO DIFFICULT FOR THEM, WHY ARE YOU ALL SO DEMANDING!

Dear friends, donors, supporters, and well-wishers,

We are a group of people from Sudan who fled our homeland due to conflict. Initially, we were over 500, but after a long and dangerous journey, only 120 of us made it to South Sudan. Sadly, not everyone survived, and it breaks our hearts to see our numbers continue to decline. Now, we are 110 people, desperately trying to reach Uganda for safety.

We are urgently seeking your help to make this journey. We have been stranded here for a long time, facing starvation and a lack of medical care. Many of our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers have already passed away. With no one else to turn to, we are reaching out to you for support.

To reach Uganda, each person needs $500, which will cover:

• $300 for transport

• $70 for food during the journey

• $120 for basic survival needs after arriving in Uganda

Since we are far from South Sudan’s capital, Juba, our journey will take four days. First, we must reach Juba, then travel for two days to Uganda. Once there, we will not stay in the capital, Kampala, but move directly to other areas for safety.

With 110 people, we need $55,000 to complete this journey. We also have 17 dogs and 8 cats, and while we would never want to leave them behind, we will do our best to bring them with us.

We could have moved earlier, but our GoFundMe has received only small donations, which have helped with medical care but not enough to escape.
