This past week was really hactic bcus I was busy packing my stuff to go back to coll. after spending so much time at home bcus of covid-19, It was really hard to say goodbye to my family...I was homesick for few days and I cant focus to study at all. Well, its still not gonna change the fact that final exam is just around the corner...I need to get back into the game ASAP and catch up with my study. No pain no gain....we are still a student, so yeah!!! Lets us all be like sponge, absorb all the knowledge before we are finally being throw into adulthood with a real patient to save. Before that, I need to learn as much as possible. I want to be a safe dr, not a perfect one😸

Heart to heart talk
Recently, ive learned how important it is to have heart to heart talk. When an issue,or a conflict arises, this is what we should do.not talking behind peoples back, not pouring ur negative emotions out,not even scolding/any forcing method.authenticity.AUTHENTICITY.This is what we need. This is what we have been needing. This is what we have been lacking.let ur guard down, practice transparency, forget how much you make, your wealth,ur race,ur nationality,ur privileges.fuck all that.because all that matters at the end of the day is that we are nonetheless HUMANS.Not more not less we’re just fucking humans.Thats all who we are.stop all these pretenses cause these are what bred stigma and false mindset.the world is too fucked up now, lord knows this is what we need.

school mindset
essays - make each essay you write better than the last

small assignments - aim for 100s, expect 100s, get 100s

 homework - pretend they’re assignments

homework that’s not graded - pretend! they’re! assignments!

tests - study for 100s, expect less

long term projects - act like it’s due in four days -even when it’s not- until you’re done with it

group projects - do not get angry

 presentations - pretend you’re obama
disclaimer - this works for me, it may not work for everybody, do not push yourself too hard!!

Expectations and realities of medical school:
Expectation: XXXL coffee every morning if you want to open your eyes Reality: a cup of tea is enough for this (lucky) caffeine-sensitive girl
Expectation: no sleep ever, hook yourself up to a coffee IV to keep going Reality: bedtime is 10pm and also 2 hours past the time that most other students go to bed
Expectation: cram whatever food you can into your mouth while you study Reality: cooking and eating become study breaks to look forward to
Expectation: study alone in the library forever Reality: make a best friend who you study well with and pretend you’re hanging out all the time to make studying wayyy better
Expectation: every lecture is vital and must be attended with the utmost attention Reality: okay this is true for some professors, but others you can watch the lecture later online at double speed and get the gist or just skip lecture altogether and look at the slides (I still go to every lecture though cause I’m a nerd)
Expectation: your entire life revolves around studying Reality: studying in fact becomes your life and you eventually learn to revolve it around other things

I just happy that im surrounded with a very good, great, fantastic friends.
15 things students should appreciate
1. the first time you use your new markers and stationary  2. sitting outside in the sun during a break between classes 3. a good coffee-to-go in your hand during a long lecture at uni 4. unlimited free books in your university library 5. student discount while shopping in many big shops (like forever21) 6. a neatly organized and healthy filled lunchbox, prepared the night before 7. classical music in the background while studying 8. walking through the university hallways surrounded by busy crowds of motivated young people with big dreams 9. being fortunate to be able to study 10. professor’s with quirky personalities and jokes 11. endless possibilities, still waiting in the future 12. cosy study sessions with friends 13. creativity in fashion, food and home decor because of little money 14. sleeping in and spending time at home/in your dorm because you don’t work a full job yet 15. dinner nights that involve cooking with fellow student friends and drinking cheap wine on weekdays

ANATOMY STUDY GUIDE 101
Tumblr media
So studying anatomy is nothing like any other topic, especially when you study it at uni level, where they expect you to know every single small component of the body! So this guide is going to be concerning the musculoskeletal system and the nerves (PNS) and arteries in the body.
I have mentioned some of these tips before but I will put them in here aswell and so this can work as sort of masterpost. This is like a more “overall” type of masterpost. So if you want to have topic specific posts for example for nerves and arteries then let me know.
1. Find a study partner. First and foremost anatomy is so much easier when you are two dealing with it. Me and my study partner used to do anatomy spots together and by doing it two people together you can discuss what it could possibly be. You get to hear their train of thoughts which sometimes can be better than yours. Also you will have someone to quiz you and correct you when you say something wrong.
2. Accept that it takes time. First step to learning anatomy is dedicating a lot of time. It is not easy, you are cramming so much information into your mind and for it to stay there you will have to go over the same topic again and again and again. And I know it is really frustrating and you are going to spent maybe 10 hours trying to figure out the muscles of the leg and then next week when you review it again it will feel like a whole new topic, but this is all a part of the proces, just keep revising again and again and again.
3. The Atlas is your best friend. Invest in a good atlas, they are a little expensive but they work wonders because first of all they give you an image of what you study. And usually the text book images are not enough. In an atlas you will have “isolated” images but you will also have images where relations are shown. HOWEVER if you dont want to buy an actual atlas then maybe buy Complete anatomy which is a computer program that I also reffered to in my “5 sites every med student should know about” post. Here you can play around with the structures, view it from different angles and add on to it with other nearby structures or remove structures.
4. Say it out loud. Pretty self explanatory.
5. Create an overview. Rather than focusing on the details try to focus on creating an overview. Anatomy is already so difficult so dont complicate things for yourself. And if you know the basics then learning the details will be so much easier.
6. Use a whiteboard. Speaking of creating an overview, try using a white board for this. It is such a good way for creating an overview. I think because deleting and writing is so easy it kinda makes it less stressful than writing in a note book where ofcourse you worry about the aesthetic. Also try to do this with your study partner. You can plan on studying a topic together so lets say for example the muscles of the leg, you both at home study it, try to memorize it, look at it in an atlas and then you two meet. Now when you meet you get infront of a white board and start talking and writing about what you guys think is important and when you guys cant go any further then grab your notes and then add more on to the board.
7. MAKE IT VISUAL!. This is the most important step! Use bones, pay attention in your dissection classes, if you have the upportunity to touch, feel and look at structures then DO IT! This is the best way to learn. Spot as often as you can.
8. Make up rules. you can find a lot of them online, or just make some up yourself, me and my study partner did, for example the muscles  M. erector spinae: I (m. iliocostalis) Like (m. longissimus) Standing (m. spinalis). If you turn it into a “game” then remembering it will be much easier.
And most importantly dont stress your mind that much. Allow yourself to take breaks, because over feeding your mind with knowledge in a short period of time can also be very damaging since you will waste time and not remember most of what you studied.
Good luck, stay motivated and stay dedicated
Love
