It's kind of wild that perhaps the single most important long-term consequence from the events of C1 was the last-minute promise to an Archfey to build a gate to the material plane in exchange for a night's rest.

Between Jester's whole storyline and the Traveler cult, and now Fearne's entire existence on the material plane (and, let's be real, probably everything happening with the Nightmare King), that's the thing Vox Machina did that's created some of the weirdest ongoing repercussions.

#i really love how matt is kind of planting so many threads in this campaign that are sort of consequences of vm #but it's not in- i don't know- a punative way??#i feel like a lot of sequels or tie ins that explore consequences have this very pessimistic tone #of like 'look what you did. you weren't thinking about consequences were you' toward the old heroes #but like- for all that it made them feel horrified and guilty- the sun tree bodies were not vm's fault #they did not overlook something simple that caused someone else to get hurt #and that's kind of the tone of a lot of the connections and i love it #i watch critical role now #i queue you all

It's utterly magnetic when a character's rage is quiet and precise. When they don't scream and throw things but they just b r e a t h e and very very calmly aim their fury like an arrow shooting inexorably towards the target of their wrath. It captures my attention, I lean in close, I wait for the hit. It never disappoints.
