actually a really interesting aspect of naruto to me is that the team-as-family dynamic is not unintentional or unwanted in konoha. it's not an act of rebellion to love your teammates. it is exactly what is expected of you. cultivating intense feelings between those guys increases their loyalty to the village via proxy, encourages them to save each other and conserve resources, improves general performance, and most importantly, encourages the myth of the morally right soldier. team 7 chasing down sasuke because of the love that was cultivated + sasuke eventually settling down. also because of the love. is a fucking horror story about the government winning in the end. kakashi deciding not to let his comrades die is the final nail in his boot-licker coffin. every antagonist's attempts at change fail because all of them are based in love which is a tool of the state.
