oh, i failed to find the post i... think i made about this? but lately i've been rotating a minakushimikoto concept where (warning: affair ahead! also this plot is not kind to fugaku's characterization)

kushina and mikoto briefly start hooking up during the war bc minato & kushina had an open relationship due to the long distance thing. i have to think about the timeline about if mikoto is married yet or not, but fugaku might know & not really care because dating another girl doesn't "count"

their fling stops for a couple years after mikoto has itachi. mikoto gets increasingly frustrated with her marriage and start seeing kushina again but minato is involved now (war has died down & he's in training as hokage candidate -> he's in the village more -> now they come as a set)

they break off the affair again shortly after minato officially becomes hokage, partly due to increased scrutiny and partly because mikoto wants a second child

the part i don't think i posted about before: fugaku suspects the affair and is suspicious sasuke is minato's

sasuke is NOT minato's. mikoto is 100% positive sasuke is fugaku's, because she stopped having penetrative sex with minato the second she went off her magic ninja contraceptive jutsu. however the timing of everything is very sus and she has to assure minakushi sasuke isn't minato's multiple times

she distances herself from them in the last half of pregnancy in attempts to placate fugaku but it doesn't work. he's completely hands off with sasuke and even makes half-hearted attempts to prevent itachi from interacting with sasuke. this doesn't work because itachi WILL be holding baby brother, thank you

mikoto is asked to be their for naruto's birth and after some hesitation she accepts because she does care about them and kushina seems both nervous and excited about having a baby and has been reaching out to her again for tips. mikoto's presence is enough of a butterfly effect that both minato and kushina survive but the kyuubi still partially gets out. the village is wrecked and many are dead or injured

mikoto ends up spending more and more time at minakushi's, because minato has to be all-hands-on-deck as hokage and kushina is exhausted from childbirth AND having the kyuubi ripped out of her AND they have a newborn and neither of them have an extended family and desperately need domestic help. so mikoto ends up coming over with sasuke and helping and unfortunately she feels SO much more loved and appreciated and she starts to wish sasuke was minato's

but she married the most important uchiha on purpose because she's attracted to power, and she can't just nope out of it without potentially being ostracized by the clan and losing itachi, extreme social shame, etc. like minato can and would annul the marriage in a heartbeat if asked, but it will also cause political fallout

anyway mikoto decides the best thing to do is goad fugaku into plotting his little coup and then turning him and his buddies in. now he's in prison and she's the poor loyal wife holding up the clan. and isn't it so nice that she and the hokage's wife are best friends and stay over together all the time and are basically raising them kids as brothers???

interesting that both orochimaru and jiraya try to leverage tsunade's trauma with her little brother to get her to do what they want

jiraya said theres only 2 necklaces like tsunade's (aka first hokage's, augmented his control over tailed beasts). now you might think this was a mistake in the english dub but actually the other one was mito's. it was passed down to kushina but broke on the night of the 9 tails attack

Guys guys I love Ino and Sakura but they would have NOT been better than the other canon ships in terms of marriage lmao (or well, depending on what you like, they'd be perfect 😈).

They're crash out queens. One of them asks for the divorce and the other refuses to sign it for a couple of years. They break up and come back so much everyone ignores them. Property damage and public indecency (kinda?) and toxi yuri all the way. Do you get it?
