What was going on in your life 8 years ago versus today?
2006-2009 approximately 11-7 years ago: - Took a job making less than $25k a year, which was around ½ of what I was making 2 years previously. - My three son’s could not even obtain a job in the fast food industry because no jobs were available and they had to move back home. (Justin was still in high school, but Chris and Josh had to move back in along with a few of their friends that needed a place to live while trying to find work) - Lost my home due to loss of job - Rented a small 2 bedroom run down old house - I was driving an old run down vehicle that barely passed the smog test - My son’s vehicles were old and run down - Had no benefits or retirement offered with my current employment position - Friends and family that had planned to retire could not and worked for several more years to survive - Cost of fuel was $3.07 a gallon - The sad list can go on and on listing everyone in my family that was affected by the state of the economy Today - I have the best job I have ever had - I am financially better off than I have ever been. - I have excellent benefits and a retirement package (woohooo!!!!) - My two older sons are on their own, have jobs; one owns his own home. The youngest is still recovering from the tragedy of losing his son in a car accident from a texting, speeding driver, but is steadily improving. - All the kid’s friends found jobs, moved out on their own, and are now doing great. - I have a new car that is reliable - My son’s all have newer reliable vehicles - Own the largest and nicest house I have ever owned - Cost of fuel is $2.28 a gallon - The Idaho Department of Labor cannot find enough employees to fill the positions being offered throughout the community - Everyone I know has a job and is making more than they did 8 years ago (except for those that have retired by choice because now they can retire) - The baby boomers are finally retiring in droves. - I can afford to have a few hobbies - I can finally think about taking a real vacation to Europe - There is more, but the list is getting to long. It does not matter what anyone says about the Obama administration. What I know to be true is that my life improved dramatically. He may not have been directly responsible, but he certainly did not hinder the process. Thank you President Obama for your compassion, thoughtfulness, and concern for the United States over the last 8 years. Thank you for taking is slow and steady to assure true stability. Thank you for your careful consideration of our foreign affairs and having a hard hand when it was needed even if it meant breaking your original intentions and promises. Most of the economic success in my life can be attributed to the people who provided the connections and opportunities: David Fitzpatrick, Victoria Everett, Missy Paulin, Bill and Debbie Wellman, Al Garver, Bryan Birch, Cheryl Garner, Heather Luff-Uhi, Renee Jones Bade, Craig Bledsoe, Karen Rash, and of course all of my current co-works and employers who I will not name on social media. – THANK YOU!!!
