she can’t help but frown at the fact that natalia’s smile didn’t reach her eyes ( it was a beautiful thing to see her sister smile, genuinely smile, her whole face lighting up as a result ), but she chooses not to press on it. considering their current conversation, it was only understandable. still, a smile of her own appears on rosy lips at the words my little fish, a pull at her heartstrings that she knows all too well. ❝ it’s quite hard to say no to them, i’ll give you that. ❞ it’s how she feels about serena, who was always more of a daughter than a sister to dani. ❝ the clave? ❞ she frowns again. ❝ so… terrorizing downworlders wasn’t enough, they have to take their own as well? ❞

natalia tilted her head to the side, her expression softening without her even realizing it, almost as if she couldn’t help it, at least not when the people he considered family were involved, no matter what the situation was. ❝ more like impossible. ❞ she chuckled before she added. ❝ no matter how old they get they are still just kids. ❞ at least in luca’s case it was the truth, she was hundreds years older than the young shadowhunter. she nodded once at the question. ❝ i guess it’s because aerin might be a nephilim but she is still one of the princess, still one of queen astrid’s kid. who knows what they are planning. nothing good i guess, though. ❞

      the high warlock could tell that something was bothering the merprincess and he wondered what it was that could upset her so. it did make her a bit worried for her but he was patient and he would wait for her to share whatever she wished about it. he knew when to push and when to not so much push. even though he was quite busy, he would always make time for her if she needed it. “a protection spell? hmm, i’m quite adept at them so i’m sure i can help you on whatever it is need a protection spell put on. come closer to table please.” the table itself was a bit messy especially since he had a plethora of items, ingredients, and books strewn about it. he watched as she pulled out a necklace with a shell on the end of it. it made sense, especially considering how much mers loved the sea aesthetic that they usually touted in their appearance. “you want it on the pendant of the necklace, or the whole necklace itself? because i can do either. do you intend this to be given to someone important to you?”

a sigh of relief made its way past her slightly parted lips, she didn’t even realize how worried she had been till that moment. an absurd thought because she knew he would have been able to do it, there was a reason why he was the high warlock of LA instead of someone else, and yet, with everything happening she found herself not knowing who could be trusted and who couldn’t. the tiniest hint of a smile crossed her features as she took a couple step forward, moving closer to him near the table. ❝ you have no idea how relieved i am to hear that. i mean, i didn’t have doubts you would have been able to do such thing, i just wanted to be sure? ❞ natalia scrunched up her nose at her own rambling words, head shaking a couple of times to bring back her focus on the matter in hands. she didn’t think much about his question, the answering words slipping out even before she could count to five in her head. ❝ on the whole thing, to be safer. ❞ she hummed, lifting it up enough for the warlock to look at it and take it if he needed to. cheeks turning a slightly darker hue of pink when she nodded, the thought of amara bringing a genuine smile upon her lips. ❝ yes. it’s almost an understatment for how unbelievably important she is to me. i want to keep her safe, not that she can’t handle whatever is thrown at her but- ❞ she trailed off with a small shrug.

       he shakes his head vehemently, despite the way his vision swims with the movement. “i did this. i put this burden on you too.” he chokes out. and now, aerin was gone. and he had no idea what the clave would do to her. “we can’t get her back on our own. we have to….we have to tell her family.” and he was as good as dead once he did so. 

❝ no, no. ❞ she repeated, the last word coming out stronger, the last thing she wanted was for him to blame himself for something he didn’t have power over, because if there was something natalia was sure of was that the clave would have managed to do it all over again even without involving him. ❝ you didn’t put any burden on me. you are my son, i will always help you. ❞ a small sigh slipped past her lips, followed by a nod. ❝ i know. ❞ it might be the only logical solution but she was scared of the way they could react. ❝ we have to be careful, though. i don’t want anything to happen to you too. ❞

      being taken by the clave, by the government that she had trusted growing up, that she had believed in once upon a time. they were conniving and cunning and had wanted to use her for what was special about her, about what her mother had done to her when she had just been a fetus in her womb. “it could be worse, i could be worse. it can always be worse.” and there was so much truth in that and amara hated it. amara sighs, “i– are you sure? you don’t have to.. i don’t know how… how your magic… works like that.” she was so used to iratze and dealing with whatever soreness and pain came afterwards. “i need to sit down. you can try.” she nodded, slowly sliding to sit down on the couch in the living room. amara could tell that something changed in lia’s expression because she had mentioned the clave and it made the shadowhunter bite at her lower lip. the beginnings of tears forming in her eyes, “they wanted me.. and my friend… because of what we are… what was done to us.. before we were born.” amara looked down, eyes falling upon the couch, “it’s the clave. they can get away with anything.”

she knew amara was right, if something bad happened, there was always the chance of something worse to follow but that didn’t mean it was okay, or that she liked to think of it or even that she wouldn’t do anything in her power to prevent it. ❝ it’s not time to think about how worse it could be, focus on the present. ❞ a small smile graced her lips  when she nodded. ❝ i want to. we don’t usually use our magic for thiis- ❞ for healing she meant. ❝ but we still can. ❞ she added, letting her sit down before she followed suit, sitting next to her, close enough so it was easy for her to rest one of her hands on top of amara’s, somehow having the need to keep the contact, almost as if that small gesture was enough to placate her still worried soul that at least she was there, she was safe from any harm. she could see the hurt, the pain in her eyes, in her words and it broke natalia’s heart. she couldn’t even being to imagine how it could feel to be betrayed and tried to be used by people you grew up to trust. she wanted to ask more, ask her what she meant with what as done to us. she knew amara was special, she had always known but she figured her reasoning was far off from what the clave saw in her. ❝ i don’t know why they did that, but they won’t get away with it, they can’t get away with it, even if it means drowning every single one of them. ❞ it wasn’t often that the mermaid got angry but she couldn’t stop the ugly feeling from bubbling up in her chest. closing her eyes for a moment, she let out a long breath, she needed to focus. ❝ come here, starfish. ❞ she hummed then, her free hand reaching up to cup her cheek once more, just for a second before her fingers found their way to gently run through her hair as she leaned over to press a kiss against her forehead. it was then that she started singing, it was a slow and soft melody, one that was meant to heal.

❝ i would hope you’ve been busy in a positive sense of the word, but i’m not sure i am that optimistic. ❞ or rather, she knew she was hardly optimistic at all, but she would venture out when it came to her siblings, since she only wanted the best for them ─ it couldn’t hurt to hope, right? at least on those cases. ❝ aerin is staying with you? why? ❞ she asked, a frown settling on her features. ❝ amara is that raven haired shadowhunter you’re fond of, yes? what happened there? should i worry? ❞

her smile faltered if only for a moment, though as it stretched back onto her features it didn’t quite reach her eyes. ❝ you wouldn’t be wrong. about not being that optimistic. ❞ natalia didn’t like to worry her siblings but at the same time lying to them had never been her thing, so she didn’t have much choices but telling the truth. ❝ she needed a safe place, somewhere to keep low and away from not so nice people. and i couldn’t say no to my little fish, luca. ❞   a chuckle left her lips, a flush spread across her cheeks at daniella’s words about amara. ❝ i...yeah, her. those pricks of the clave happened. ❞ he muttered, anger flashing in her eyes. ❝ and they hurt her. ❞

      “stop-” he murmurs, capturing her hand with his. he know she means well; that she wants to help. but healing him…he doesn’t deserve to be healed. and there’s no time to waste on him anyway. “lia, they took her-” he chokes out, trying to push himself to stand. “they were following me. i thought i’d gotten clear of them but they….they have aerin.”

she shushed him but ultimately stopped, the wound on his head was mostly healed and the blood had stopped from pouring out, and for now that was enough for her. it had to be enough because the words that he spoke afterward left her wide eyed. ❝ what. ❞ the disbelief in her voice was obviousl. ❝ hey, no. no. it’s not your fault, you couldn’t have known. i shouldn’t have left her alone. ❞ there was an edge in her tone. ❝ we are going to find her. ❞

Grey frowned. Lia was never one to hold back her words. “Whether or not she is truly our sister or a remnant of her remains to be seen. I doubt Leo would reunite us without a valid reason.” he said. Grey didn’t want to think about it, but he assumed the worse case scenario. It would be his duty as the merking to end his sister’s life if it came to that.

the merprincess couldn’t help the way her expression changed, the slight hint of pain but the distress was obvious in her eyes. ❝ ...i think it’d be the latter. ❞ she said, her voice merely louder than a whisper. if what happened with the other undead she doubted their sister any different but she didn’t want to think about what that would have implied.

          IT WASN’T THAT HE WAS TOUCH AVERSE. he enjoyed the hug, the way she smiled at him as she patted his cheek, but it was past experiences that had made him leery. at the same time, past experiences told him he could trust natalia so he did. she wouldn’t hurt him. ❝ that’s what people say about family. ❞ the way he said that was less sad than the words implied. ❝ not getting into trouble would mean learning my lesson and would i really be myself i did that? ❞ he chuckled. ❝ and you? same as always? ❞

her brow rose at his words but the smile upon her face remained soft, kind in nature. ❝ indeed. and all families are different, some good some bad. a shame they can’t really be chosen. ❞ she was lucky, she knew it. her siblings were the most important people in her life and there was nothing she was more grateful of that getting along with all of them. but she also knew that family wasn’t always of blood, luca, alexandra and even romilly, were some that she considered almost like her own children. she laughed, head shaking a couple of time. ❝ silly of me of asking ,mh? what am i going to do with you. ❞ she hummed, her tone was teasing as she reached up to pat his cheek. ❝ let’s say yes and no. haven’t traveld all that much lately. ❞

her expression softened a bit at natalia’s reaction, a smile tugging at her lips. she knew that people ( especially her family ) would start to notice the changes in her ─ the bump was glamoured, but there was more to a pregnancy than just a growing baby bump. if not for her previous experiences, she would be thrilled to share the news with her loved ones, but she can’t. not yet. ❝ what about you? how have you been, sister? ❞

lia was still smiling when she gave  her a curious look, she wanted to ask more, pry a little bit on what was going on with daniella, because she knew the salt water was just an excuse, she might be young but she wasn’t born yesterday. but despite she knew if she wasn’t saying it was for a good reason, and that was why she simply scrunched up her nose. ❝ i’ve been...busy. ❞ she hummed. ❝ aerin, the youngest seelie princess, is staying with me. and with amara, whom disappeared for a little bit. ❞

natalia rose an eyebrow at the question. she knew her brother wasn’t anywhere being as clueless as he was trying to look, so she just shook her head. ❝ you know what i mean. it’s about our sister. i didn’t saw her but i know she is around. ❞ she let out a small huff. ❝ i still don’t think it’s a good idea to talk with that person, but i know i can’t stop you from doing that. ❞

there was panic rushing through her the moment she reached her own place, one step inside was enough to know that something had happened. and when luca’s voice reached her ears, she could swear she felt her heart sink. she moved fast, kneeling down next to him as she reached out, making him stop moving. ❝ rybka. wait, wait. stop. ❞ she hummed, gently moving her hand to the wound on his head, taking a deep breath as she focused for a moment before she started to sing, voice soft, melodic. a healing song. it didn’t took long before she was done, hand still gently resting on him. ❝ what happened? ❞

       he lets out a low groan, ears ringing. the pain in his head splinters throughout his skull as lids flutter open and take in the room around him. “aer-” he struggles over the word, hand raising to touch the back of his head. it comes away wet, scarlet. “aerin-” he says, panic rising in his chest.

    amara was sore and she knew that there were more than a few bruises on her body that not even a iratze could fix. so she felt a bit of pain as the mermaid had hugged her, but it was worth it in the end, to be reunited with the mermaid when she had thought the clave would keep her and lukas captive because they had found out that they were different. and though natalia loosened her grip, she found herself slightly leaning again the redhead. “i’m okay, i’m just kind of sore.” breathing out slowly, she sighed, feeling something flow warmly through her as the mermaid cupped her face. “i… i was taken, myself and another by the clave…”

she couldn’t stop the hurting from showing in her eyes, seeing amara like that, knowing that someone had hurt her, was enough for the mermaid to feel like someone had been squeezing her own heart too tightly. ❝ that’s not what okay looks like to me. ❞ she mumbled, her touch still as delicate as she could manage as she caressed her cheecks with her thumbs. ❝ let me help? ❞ she asked, almost hesitant, she was known to use her song to heal but somehow she still wanted amara to be okay with it, and not just because she was important to her. at the mentition of the clave, something shifted inside her, her gaze hardening, almost making her lose her glamour. ❝ what did they want. wait, no, that’s not the important thing. ❞ she sighed. ❝ they aren’t getting away with it. they can’t. ❞

     after he knew that she was inside, he snapped his fingers again and the door closed gently behind her. he continued to skim over the ingredients on his shelves, still working even as he knew that she was slowly coming closer. “these days i’m always busy, but i am a wonder at multi-tasking my dear.” picking a jar of wolf hair and looking over it, he turned his gaze when the redhead entered the room. “we can figure out that payment part later, i have nothing i can think of needing. what is it you need biscuit?”

the merprincess hummed at the warlock’s words, it wasn’t that hard to imagine how busy he must have been and still be with everything going on, and that only made her all that much more glad that he was willing to hear her. she chuckled then, the nickname making a small smile start to spread across her face, the tension she had been feeling till then starting to slowly fade away. ❝ i was wondering if you could help me with a protection spell. ❞ her smile turning just a little more softer when she reached for the necklace secured in her pocket, she still had to give it back to amara, and she was planning on doing so but before that she wanted to be sure that nothing more was going to happen to her, and well, her own magic wasn’t much of help on that. letting it carefully dangle from her fingers, natalia looked up at august. ❝ on this. it’s quite important. ❞

Cas knew that his younger siblings weren’t babies any more, far from it but sometimes he still saw tiny tails wiggling and baby hands reaching out for someone to hold onto. He laughed when the fish bumped his forehead and gently poked the bubble to send it off the other direction. “Hey little sis. How are you? I…I should have asked sooner, with Ligeia and everything…did you see her? Or anyone you shouldn’t have?” He worried from afar, but after seeing how Kieran felt about being so distant he decided to be more active in his siblings’ lives.

a wide smile spread across the merprincess’ face at hearing her brother’s laugh. it had always been something she’d tried to get from her siblings, much like up to this day she still brought small angelfish to kieran just to see him smile. her smile faltered, but it didn’t completely disappear. ❝ i’ve been better, seeing faces i thought were gone forever is rather- ❞ she trailed off, not sure how to finish her sentence, head shaking once. ❝ it’s okay. you’ve been busy and you’ve had enough things to worry about already. ❞ she could only imagine what all her siblings were going through. ❝ i didn’t see her, though...and it might sound bad but...i’m glad. have you seen her? ❞

❝ lia. ❞ dani greeted, a smile spreading across her lips at the sight of her younger sister. although the last few weeks had been stressful for the older mermaid, seeing her sister never failed to lift up her mood. natalia’s question, however, made her freeze slightly.  ❝ huh? ❞ she asked, expression falling momentarily. ❝ salt water. ❞ she quickly added, the best thing she could think of. ❝ does wonders for the skin, little one. ❞

at her sister’s reaction, natalia couldn’t help but laugh ever so slightly, almost trying to suppress the sound. ❝ salt water. ❞ she repeated, trying to put some wonder into her tone but it was more than obvious that she found her answer more amusing than anything. ❝ of course. must be the reason why you are radiating. with all the time you spend underwater. ❞ she teased, despite not able to stop herself from smiling.
