Amari laughed at his comment.  “It’s no trouble.  Like I said…I have a soft spot for your kind.”  She didn’t often talk about why that was, but she also doubted he would ask.  He seemed simply satisfied with knowing that man wouldn’t be bothering him anymore.  “I mean, if you insist on paying I won’t object if that makes you feel better,” she told him.  “But I’m more tan capable of doing it.  I mean, it really isn’t a problem at all.  Trust me, if I thought you were taking advantage of me you’d be well aware of it.”
Honestly, she’d love to see an incubus try and take advantage of her.  It would e quite amusing to watch them flounder upon realizing they were fighting way out of their league.
Tumblr media
This restlessness in his limbs made him hate being an Incubus even more, because he knew what would happen later on. He’d try to get rid of it, only to be confronted with his offensive stamina. A lot more time would be wasted in the attempt to wind himself down. His feet didn’t get the memo, of course. They wanted to run, as fast as he could, just for the sake of it. He ignored them. “I just thought of a third option,” he said, voice still light. “We could see if someone else would buy a drink for us. We do deserve it after all, don’t we?” Nate was glad that he couldn’t see his own grin, it probably made him look like a dumbass. “Shall we go? And uh. While we’re on it, you should also tell me where your shop is. For later and all.”

“I’m sure,” Amari reassured him while nodding once.  She knew she could handle this.  He didn’t need to thank her.  she’d hope that if roles were reversed and he had the ability to do something for her, he would have.  “I won’t get trouble.”
Without another word, Amari offered him a reassuring smile then headed straight for the man that had been watching him.  She compelled him to leave, to forget what he had been doing.  Once he left she was able to relax.  Returning to him, she shrugged.  “Now that he’s gone, can I buy you a drink or something?  You seem like you could use something to calm the frazzled nerves.  I’m Amari, by the way.”
Tumblr media
Nate’s heart was pounding so hard, it left him wondering whether it was annoying to a vampire. Logically, he knew that nothing could happen to her. She was wayyyy stronger than this random half-life, but watching her approach the guy was still stressful. More stressful than being in danger himself, despite the fact that he had just met her. There it was. The dude just turned around and left, like he hadn’t followed him all the way here. It was a little freaky, but Nate was too busy taking deep, relieved breaths to care.
“Nate. Prince. I. Thanks. Seriously,” he replied in a pitch that was slightly higher than usual, shifting from foot to foot in an attempt to get alleviate his excitement. “And uh… Shouldn’t I be spending money on you? In gratitude? I can’t take even more advantage of you.”

“Nice to meet you, I’m Jason.” He had started trying to say his last name less. He really didn’t want people to look into him and find out why he had come here. He was trying to start over and cover his tracks and maybe making a friend would be one step closer to completing that goal. Hopefully this guy hadn’t found him too odd yet and was looking for a way to ditch him.
Tumblr media
“Well, Jason,” he replied airily. “You’re saving my hide right now, so you’re officially my new favorite person.” It was an earnest statement. Nate wasn’t sure what he would have done if he hadn’t met Jason — honestly, who just followed people around like that? Creepy.
The library wasn’t too far away now, one crossroad and they’d be able to see it. At this point, he wasn’t above climbing out of a window and running home if the weirdo followed them inside. He’d had enough practice with that sort of thing, not that he should mention that in the company of a cop.

Elisabeth cocked an eyebrow. “Did you try that on your friend out there?” His third plan would have been her first when the matter originally began. To her, it was an instinct if passive-aggressive threats did not take an immediate effect. They could have easily gathered enough bodies to shield themselves while they ran away. The fact that they made it illegal many years ago did not phase her. A little forceful persuasion rarely harmed anyone.
“You should have said that sooner,” she mused. She scanned the restaurant floor for anyone who could be useful. Diners would not matter unless they had a specific reason to push the man away. One of the staff, a manager perhaps, would be their best weapon. “I bet between the two of us, we can compel someone to help. Start with the maître d’ until we can find a manager to shoo him away.”
Tumblr media
Nate grimaced, unsure why that question surprised him. “I would have, but it’s different from compulsion — I can’t control it. Someone either falls under my enthral or they don’t.” His voice made very clear just how annoyed he was with that information. In his mind, it was pretty unfair. Why could vampires control it, but not them? It would have made his life way easier. “This guy, unfortunately, didn’t. Guess I’m not his type.” There was no humor in his words.
Usually he tried not to get in trouble with the authorities, but he wasn’t above using underhanded measures. Not in situations like this. ”I suppose it shouldn’t be too hard.” He mimicked her actions by glancing around, trying to make eye-contact with anyone, like a weirdo. “After all, there’s no way they’d want a guy dressed like that to loiter around their property and scare the fancy people away.”

drdeweyf‌:
While the agitating turn of his nerves seemed to mount the longer he sat still, Dewey nearly bucked out of his seat with relief as he noted a distinct shift in the air. Nate’s scent carried on the wind - and no, it certainly wasn’t odd that he had memorized the smell already, and could definitely pinpoint it in a small bakery already abounding with various other pleasant aromas. He simply possessed keen senses, that was all. The one aspect of his being that he didn’t absolutely detest. It allowed him a measure of caution that couldn’t be afforded otherwise. Or in this case, a reprieve from the ever-present gnawing of anticipation. The mere sight of the other has him perking up, but when it’s visibly apparent that Nate doesn’t appear reluctant or otherwise displeased to be there, Dewey can feel his nerves beginning to dissipate. In one sense, at least. The rest of his mind that occupies means of speech and movement is still a haphazard mess, and he takes a steadying breath before offering a small, closed mouth smile towards Nate. Handsome. Dear God, he’s doing to do him in before they’ve even ordered anything! “I’d hope my face wasn’t too forgettable,” came his lightly chuckled reply, fingers threading themselves together before his chin. “Not long at all. In fact, I was almost late getting here myself. Had a few bits of paperwork to attend to - trifling matter, though. Are you hungry? I hope so, I believe they just brought out a fresh batch of cinnamon rolls,”
Tumblr media
Hungry? Oh, right, he hadn't told him that he was an Incubus, only that he was Supernatural. That alone was proof that the other hadn’t google searched him yet. Phew. It meant that Dewey hadn’t found that weird obscure forum thread, where people shared the dreams he and other publicly known Succubi and Incubi had popped up in. Ugh, just thinking about that gave him the creeps — it was bad enough that his kind couldn't control what happened in those dreams, did those weirdos have to talk about it on the internet?
On the other hand, he was pretty sure he had mentioned his aversion towards sweet things, but he didn't blame the him for forgetting. "I think I'll stick with coffee for now," he replied airily. "Need to keep in shape after all." His voice was filled with a good-natured theatricism and accompanied by an exaggerated gesture at his own body. It was kinda nice to be distracted from all the shit that had led up to him coming here. As if it didn't even matter right now. Who would've thunk that all he needed to do to forget his baggage was find a new person to drool after? On second thought, scratch that; it sounded as if he was on the rebound and only using this guy to get over his relationship with… what, bad luck? Gods, that was one thing he'd love to break up with, but —woe to him!— he couldn't afford the divorce fees. "So, you did paperwork before coming here? You must be a dedicated employee." Head cocked to the side, he regarded the other, a small smile on his face. "I admire that. It's not something I'd be able to do right before a date. Dyslexia is a pest."

Amari could tell he just wanted the situation to end.  It was a bad situation but she couldn’t fault him for asking for help.  Especially when Amari didn’t mind giving it.  “It’s not a problem,” Amari told him.  “People like that are a problem for all of us, no matter our species.  It might be for the best if I just….compel him to forget what he was doing.”  Perhaps she could try and compel his hatred of the supernatural right out of him, but she doubted that would work.  Altering someone’s personality was a little different from the surface level mind control vampires possessed.
“And maybe I have a soft spot for your species and don’t want to see you stressed out.”  After all, vampires and incubi were related in some ways.  They both required mortal energy to survive, it simply came to them in different ways.
Tumblr media
So she was a vampire then, that explained the strange sense of familiarity. Maybe she reminded him of Zeke on some unconscious level. Nate crossed his arms, contemplating her words. What sort of expression should he make? He wasn’t used to asking for help in a context like this, he’d always had to deal with the crap life threw at him on his own.  “If you’re sure,” he replied cautiously. “I don’t want to get you in trouble.” At least there were no witnesses around, that should count for something. Then again, everything was possible with his luck.
”Uh, thank you.” Absurdly, he felt a little flustered by her words, but not in a bad way. It was nice to be looked out for. Even if it was by someone whose name he still didn’t know. Seriously, he’d have to ask her when this was over. “It’s rare that anyone says anything nice about my people.” Including himself, because he loved to shit-talk what he was.

“If he doesn’t I’ll have to make him,” Amari said.  Assuming he wasn’t on vervain she had no problem compelling the creep to leave them alone, but she wanted to be sure it was the only alternative before doing something she could potentially get in trouble for.  Not that the man would remember what happened either way.
She tilted her head inquisitively.  “Should I give it five minutes or just take care of it now?  I’d hate to keep you from something you need to do because that asshole can’t take a hint.”  Since the news of the cure, everyone seemed to be more on edge than before, so they could truly never be too careful in this situation.
Tumblr media
The follower was just a weak human, why was he this stressed out about him? Even before awakening into an Incubus, he hadn’t been unsettled by something like this. Teen-Nate would have turned on his heel and socked him in the jaw, no questions asked. Then again, he’d also have ended up in the back of a police car for such a drastic measure and Nate wasn’t into that. Still, he found the possibility of getting too used to this life of safety even less attractive. Growing soft had never been his style, paranoid Incubitch that he was.
Nate shook his head, brow furrowed. “As grateful as I am to you and not to implicate that you can’t handle yourself against him, it’s just…” He trailed off, making a helpless, entirely useless gesture. “I don’t want to drag you into this even more. I shouldn’t have in the first place.”

Nate blamed it on the bad luck that had taken to haunt him. Between getting followed around, losing his honorary sister, popping up in the dreams of bigots and meeting Ridley, it was no wonder that he had done something as dumb as accepting Dewey's offer of a date. Gods. He'd taken to sleeping all day to avoid sleeping at night, only feeding by kissing. Being as shit at being an incubus as he was, he couldn't handle the feeling of fingers on his skin, not now. The last time he’d tried… well, thankfully the girl had put a halt to it. Nate didn’t blame her. It must be freaky to get into bed with someone, only for them to stop any movement and stare into space, completely non-responsive. Not the first time something like that had happened, but it was a pretty good indicator of how badly he was doing in the head department at the moment. So, he'd accepted Dewey's invitation. Because he was an idiot and irresponsible. Nate, desperate for a pick-me-up, had struck like a viper at the idea of meeting the man again— even if it was at a bakery and he hadn’t needed physical food since he had turned 16.
By the time he was entering the shop, he was humming and, embarrassingly, skipping with an enthusiasm he hadn't felt in weeks. His eyes lit up when they found what they were looking for. "Oh, I know that handsome fella," was the cheery greeting he gave as he slid into the seat with a smile that was way too bright. Not slick, but who cared about slick these days? Slick was boring. "Hope I didn't make you wait for too long."
Tumblr media
@nate-princeofstrays
He had caved. He had given Nate his number and in hindsight, it was an impulsive decision that for once, he didn’t find himself immediately regretting. Otherwise he may have relegated himself to turning on the radio night after night, listening to Nate’s broadcasts sullenly and wondering ‘what if’? Now that he had dove right into the thick of this… whatever it was they had going on, though, it meant the real challenge was to begin. Yes, they were still both in the same boat of learning about each other, but would that be enough to capture Nate’s interest? He seemed sufficiently interested in his profession as a doctor, which he once again couldn’t seem to thank enough for bailing him out of a potentially awkward conversation of 'So what do you do again?’. Not to toot his own horn, but it wasn’t every day you met a cardiologist, after all. Still, there was an undeniable churning inside his stomach when he crossed the threshold of The Pie Hole. He couldn’t dispel it with even the most vigorous of self-confidence boosting mantras. It felt glued to his gut, solidifying even as he sat down at a table in the rear. No doubt his nerves were going to end up costing him what would have otherwise been a comfortable outing with a new acquaintance. It was so like him, readying for failure before Nate had yet to set foot inside the establishment. Maybe this was a mistake. Technically there was still time for him to cancel, right?– No, no, he had to stop doing this to himself. He could get through a few words and some tasteless pastry. Hopefully.

While waiting for a table, Elisabeth glanced over her shoulder. Sure enough, their stalker would remain outside. It appeared he would remain inside, but it was obvious it was not easing her companion’s nerves. They would be safe inside, but it made her wonder how long this man would last.Even if he left the window, there was a chance he would hide out and wait for them.
“It seems we have two options.” As she spoke, she turned to have a better view of the door. A hand was on her hip as she no longer cared about being subtle watching their follow. “We can wait it out, but that may result in both of us becoming intoxicated.” She would not deny the longer they had to wait at the restaurant, the more inclined she would be to drink the night away. “Or, we can risk sneaking out the kitchen door and hope we don’t run into him again.” At this point either option was favorable for Elisabeth. She was intrigued to see how long this man would last with whatever they threw at him.
Tumblr media
It was a little pathetic, wasn't it? By all accounts he should have been able to deal with this guy easily. He was stronger, faster and, most importantly, also more handsome. But Nate wasn't a rebellious teen anymore, he had reaped the consequences of violence towards humans often enough to know that nothing good would come out of it. Whether he acted in self-defense didn't matter. This was Shadow Falls after all, in all of its backwards town glory. 'Course, there was a second reason for not just walking out and whaling on him: Giving a strong reaction would be taken as encouragement and provoke more extreme behavior, a fact he wished he didn’t know intimately.
Nate felt like shit for dragging her into his mess, but he was grateful that she still helped him. Her presence was grounding, helped him breathe. At this point he was unsure how he would have gotten out of this on his own. "If we're lucky there's a third option,” he started, voice pointedly cheerful. “Someone here will fall under my enthrall and help us out." He wouldn't count on it though, because luck very obviously didn't want to see his mug tonight.

“That would be great thanks.” Jason smiled, he would have eventually found his way but he actually wanted to get there not in like an hour so that he could actually make food to eat and not order take out for the third time this week. “I’m just really bad with directions and I know a cop shouldn’t be since I should know where things are but I guess it’s like my achilles’ heel.” and now he was rambling, why couldn’t he just be like a normal person who knew how to talk to others when he wasn’t at work.
Tumblr media
As someone whose job consisted of mainly of talking, he didn’t mind the man’s chatter. “That basically just means you’re going on an adventure everytime you try to find a place, nothing wrong with that.” A small smile tugged at his lips. With a casual wave of his hand, he motioned for him to follow him. His steps were confident, nothing there to betray the lingering nervousness. “Oh, by the way, the name’s Nate, Nate Prince.” He glanced behind him with fake casualness. The weirdo was still there, but he seemed a little more hesitant, like he was trying harder to stay hidden. His new friend was throwing him off a little, it seemed.

elsavlkyrie‌:
As Elisabeth entered the restaurant, she scanned the room. It was relatively empty for the pre-dinner rush, which was either a blessing or a curse. There was no losing their friend in this crowd. Maybe he would wise up and leave them based off of their setting alone. If he stayed, she was not against keeping up the game to bother him. This was not as painful as she imagined. If push comes to shove, she was not against the quick solution of compelling him to leave. She was only against it for the dull ending it would cause.
“Well I hope you like wine. I doubt this place will want to serve anything else.” She turned her attention back to the male at her side. “I hope this place has a decent bar. Wine can only go so far. If not, once we get you food we can get you a real drink somewhere else.”
Tumblr media
There was nothing subtle about his steps. They were restless, but it didn’t matter. The closer they got to safety, the harder his heart beat. Thump, thump, thump. He had dealt with worse before, oh in-fucking-deed he had. But he was still uneasy, still eager to get away. Could anyone blame him for being influenced by his survival instincts? All of the adrenaline was out of his system now, a fact he realized as soon as they entered the building. His superior stamina didn’t protect him from the exhaustion that grabbed for him, taking its chance to claim him. But it didn’t matter, because there was no way he could follow them inside. Safe at last.
A dopey grin was pasted onto his face, his chuckle light and airy when she talked to him again. “Wine is fine with me.” He wasn’t big on alcohol, but he might as well celebrate. A drink for the Gods that had gotten him out of this. “’Sides, it would be rude of me to get black-out-drunk in your presence, wouldn’t it?” He threw a glimpse over his shoulder — and the smile on his face froze. The follower was still standing outside, arms crossed.
Shit.

Amari couldn’t help the chuckle that spilled from her lips.  “Oh but ripping you off doesn’t ensure repeat customers,” Amari told him teasingly.  Running a store in a small town meant you had to make the customers feel welcome.  Her whole business relied on repeat customers.  “You’re right though.  I don’t know what we did to have to put up with all this crap.”
There were so many things going on and this whole cure was only the tip of the iceberg.  Amari could sense that times were changing and she wasn’t sure if it was for the better.  Her gaze flicked over towards the man and she huffed.  “You’d think he’d have something better to do than just watch us.”
Tumblr media
He wiggled his eyebrows, voice turning conspiratorial. “I won’t tell them if you don’t.” Maybe he was starting to get delirious — he had been followed all the way here, by a guy who might or might not be a dangerous extremist and yet he was talking about fashion. Of all fucking things. His nerves were frayed, but there wasn’t much he could do to put his mind at ease. After all, the source of his problem was still standing behind them.
Supernaturals never got to catch a break, this was just another example of it. For every positive change there was at least one negative one. Like the thing with the cure. “I admire his tenacity,” he simply replied, pointedly not sounding admiring at all. “I hope he gives up soon.” Nate hadn’t really thought of a back-up plan.

thevigilantevamp‌:
The cure had been announced for weeks, and supernaturals deemed gone were crawling out of the woodworks. The air in Shadow Falls was tense with anticipation, with uncertainty. Gabe had been patrolling the streets of the small town in his vigilante get-up every night for the past few weeks, save for tonight. Hunters had been out on the prowl– he suspected it was because when everyone became human again, they’d have nothing to hunt. Got to get those last few kills in, right? It sickened him how those groups existed and everyone turned a blind eye; blaming those hunted for being supernatural in the first place. No one would hunt you if you weren’t…what you are. As if most of them had a choice.
Even without the mask, it seemed his vigilanteism wouldn’t stop. When the man called out to him, Gabe perked. He wasn’t the most social fellow, but he was, somehow, the face of Saints and Sinners. Everyone knew the quiet owner, as per Reid’s request as a silent partner. His gaze darted to the person following the man and he understood immediately. He forced a smile and put his arm around the other.
“Hey, man, good to uh, see you again,” he said, turning them away from the creep before looking over his shoulder. The person slowed their pace and dropped back several feet, keeping eyes on them. Gabe nearly cringed when he realised he’d have to keep up the charade. “No worries. We got to look out for each other,” he whispered back before clearing his throat and talking louder. “I was just headed to the bar. Pretty packed there tonight, the guys are expecting me. You should tag along.”
Tumblr media
The man seemed weirdly familiar, but then again, who didn’t? Nate was used to popping up in the dreams of others, maybe — actually, wasn’t this guy Zeke’s clan leader? His father figure didn’t mention Team Edward very often, but his phone background was set to a picture of them. It had replaced a black-and-white photo of an old flame, which said a lot about Zeke’s level of adoration for his clan. Knowing that, it was easier not to flinch when the other placed an arm around him. His chest still felt uncomfortably tight, but the feverish feeling that usually accompanied touches like a shitty stowaway was absent. Nate wouldn’t lie about it; the fact that he was a vampire helped. Maybe it was because they were the older siblings of his kind, but they had always felt safe to him. Far safer than any human.
Wait, this meant that he was actually helping him, wasn’t he? A sense of relief washed over him, easing the tension in his shoulders and quirking up the corners of his lips. Thank the gods for sending him this kind, blond errand-ghost. The dude probably didn’t even know who he was and yet he was still doing him a solid. Vampire of the Year right there, Zeke could deal. “You’re Gabriel Miller, aren’t you?” The follower wouldn’t hear the murmur with his shitty human ears. “I’m Zeke’s ward. I, uh, expected to meet you for the first time at a movie night or something, but nice to meet you. And thanks.” His voice was as sincere as its low tone would allow. Not everyone would help out a stranger like this, especially not in the face of a stalker. With that over, Nate raised his volume again, cheerfulness bleeding into his speech. “You sure they won’t mind me? I don’t want to cause a scene again.” Usually that would be a lie, but this time he’d be a good Incubus and behave.

“I actually could use some directions.” While he had gotten better at remembering where everything was and where he was compared to them. He still wasn’t 100% on where everything was. He knew where the major landmarks were but that was about it. He thought he had known where he was but he had gotten turned around.
“I thought the library was over there but I was wrong.” He said pointing in the absolute wrong direction possible. “And now I kind of don’t know how to get back there.”
Tumblr media
If he was more of a cynical asshole, he might have reminded him that navigation apps existed, but he wouldn’t. Not everyone had a smartphone or even knew how they worked. As it was, his temporary lack of a sense of direction was more endearing than annoying.
The stranger’s attempt at pointing out a location attracted a snort. “I could take you there,” he offered. “I would have passed it anyway.” The idea of leading him even more astray was hilarious and tempting, but Nate was too grateful to act on it. Another time, another person, maybe. ‘Sides, it might be good to drag his little follower all the way to a library. Perhaps he’d find a book on boundaries and how to act like a normal person.

marcolatz‌:
Marco would have smacked himself not to recognize the darkness of those irises. God, he missed being able to look in the mirror and not see that damnable brown reflected in his own. Then again, he loathed a ton of things about now being human, innumerable inconveniences and hindrances. If he had still been an Incubus, he could have simply tossed this stalker guy on his ass and been done with it. As it stood, he could handle himself if the other approached them. But he wasn’t going to go out of his way to start a fight. That would definitely put a dent in the whole ‘low-key’ approach he was aiming for. Still, he would be lying to say that this current opportunity didn’t make him feel at least a little closer to normal. Playing the part of someone he didn’t know, probably would never know, and likely would disappear off the face of the earth in a few moments. He reveled in it. A palm over his heart, eyes upturned towards the heavens with a dreamy sigh. “Oh if only. But no, that’s a dream for another day. And what a dream it is,” He was at least thankful that he wasn’t playing with an amateur. The guy seemed to know what he was doing. A loud scoff flew past his lips. “Oh you best believe I’m gonna be getting my California king in this settlement, babe,” Laughter followed suit, head turned just slightly so as to catch a quick glance behind them. Damn it, he hated feeling so exposed. But they were indeed still being followed, and Marco heaved an internal sigh. “Right now? I’m thinking for nearly abandoning me, you’re paying for my drinks the rest of the night. Sound fair? Yes? Perfect!”
Tumblr media
As aforementioned, Nate wasn’t in a good place right now. So, he could be excused for following the dumb impulse of pulling his phone out of his pocket. Not that it was any of his fault, really, thinking about it. It was society’s. Those old people complaining about the youngsters’ addiction to their smartphones weren’t wrong, Nate realized in that precise moment. Yeah, it was totally society’s fault that he was texting the pest. His eyes barely managed to catch a glimpse of his message — a ‘fuck you’ that was frolicking in a complete lack of context — before he hit sent and put it back into his pocket. He couldn’t even be angry with himself for it and he wouldn’t. The guy would just ghost him anyway and then add that smug moment to his spank bank. Nate was basically doing an act of charity for a sad, sad egomaniac, wasn’t he generous?
Lying was sort of his thing. A hobby, a talent, a calling. The more absurd, the better it was, because no one had ever believed him as a kid anyway, so it hadn’t ever mattered what he’d said. ‘Course he’d still gotten brutalized and shoved into closets, but at least it had given him a reason to laugh for once. Needless to say, Nate was in his element at the moment. “Considering all the shit we did on that bed, sure, have at it.” A welcoming motion was made. “I’ll just buy one that’s DNA-free.” This was kind of meta; pretending to be lovers with someone he was pretending to be friends with. Nate wasn’t entirely sure what the narrative of this was supposed to be, but that was a good thing. If he could confuse the hell out of his little stalker, a small amount of justice would be served. He threw his hands up in an universal gesture of ‘the things I do for you’ and gave an exaggerated sigh. “Alright, alright.” His phone vibrated, but he ignored it. “Let’s hope they have some grub — no way am I letting you drink on an empty stomach again. I’d say that it’s my treat, but I guess you already decided that for me.”

With eyebrows knitted together, she glanced over at the male. She expected the man to be running from a threat or challenge from their follower. A general protest would be a decent reason to seek out help. Those were the situations she preferred. She would love to tell someone off about their quaint town. To discover there was no threat, but a bad look, would be a disappointment. A few moments of dodging through a crowd would solve the problem in an instant.
“That’s unfortunate,” Elisabeth rolled her eyes. “Would make your excuse more interesting, instead of someone gawking at you.” With their destination in sight, it would not be long before their problem was out of their hair. “So shall we see how long the wait is?” she asked as they approach the building. “You deserve a drink after dealing with that nonsense.”

Honestly, Nate would have loved for this to be a more interesting story. As it was, he got nothing out of it besides derailment and a vague sense of danger. “I’ll try harder next time,” he replied pleasantly. “Maybe I’ll draw them into a conversation myself.”
He would have been able to lead the guy into an alley and then beat his ass up, but he didn’t want to try that — that’s how supernaturals got themselves spirited away by some bigot group or another. Even if they had returned, the fact that they had been taken in the first place was still cause for caution. Fuck those creepy scientists for claiming that those now-humans had done all of that out of their own volition. “A drink sounds great.” Not his scene, but certainly not the half-life’s either. Maybe he could lure him into the restaurant and get him to order something overpriced in order to fit in, that would be beautiful.

amarikeita‌:
Amari nodded in understanding.  “Good point.  That’s a rant for another day,” she chuckled.  The whole thing about the supernaturals disappearing and the cure…it didn’t make sense.  She had seen centuries pass by with no hint of things changing.  If this was true, it was terrifying.
“That would be great! I’m always looking for new customers,” she told him.  Amari smiled, and glanced over in the direction of the man he had been trying to get away from.  “I probably have a few things in stock that might be right up your alley,” Amari told him.  “I might even squeeze you in for a friends and family discount.”

Maybe his style was really offensive to the Gods, to the point where they had concocted all of this just so he would run into her and get a makeover. It might have been an arrogant and unrealistic thought, but at least it was a comforting one. Kinda funny too, if he was honest. The least he could do was to go along with the flow and buy something he’d never wear otherwise, get some memorabilia from this magnificent fuckery. The guy behind him still needed to scram first, though.
A discount? Even if this was all for show, his heart felt a little bit warmer at her kindness. “Thanks, but you don’t need to,” he replied, a grin playing around his lips. “In fact, you should probably try to rip me off a little. I want to support your business properly.” He shrugged. “Us Supes deserve a reward for dealing with all of this crap lately.”
