Notebook Post - Week 14 (Week of 12/3)
My post for this week is some rough ideas that I had for my hifi prototype presentation! I’m currently thinking of making a video to accompany my physical prototype, so this really disorganized but really helpful page in my notebook has the stuff that I’d like to get in order to create my product in the real world, and it also has some elements that I’d like to potentially include in my video.

I briefly mentioned this project in one of my previous notebook posts, but this was actually my Still and Moving Images final project (I completely understand if this can’t be counted as a constant output since I made it for another class as well, but since I have 10 posts already and I wanted to share how my constant output has actually helped me outside of this class, I wanted to put this here!)
Our prompt for this project was quite vague - we were simply supposed to use filmmaking and video recording techniques that we learned about in class in order to create any kind of video between 2 and 4 minutes long. While I initially considered just filming some nature shots and calling it a day, I decided that I wanted to really put my creative abilities to the test. Because of this, I decided to make a self-made music video to one of my favorite songs, Skeletons by Keshi.
You can actually see a bunch of the elements that I’ve gradually had time to refine with my constant output projects - zooms, blurs, time manipulation, warps, keyframes, masking, motion tracking, and color grading. This edit was by far the most challenging I’ve ever done simply because the only tools I had at my disposal to record my video were a tripod and my phone, so making my video match the vision that I had was quite the challenge. It was also challenging in the sense that it took an extremely excessive amount of planning (at least compared to my other edits) since I had to both edit the clips as well as record them in real life. In the end though, I had a lot of fun with the entire process, and I’m really happy with the result!
I'm also really glad that I decided at the beginning of the semester to pursue a constant output project instead of a constant input project, because I genuinely don’t think I would have been able to make a project like this had I not decided to make these short/fun edits!

Notebook Post - Week 13 (Week of 11/25)
I know that today we don’t actually need to post anything for our notebooks, but since I still want to share this despite it not being an actual notebook, I figured I would post it during the off week! I think it was during week 2′s or week 3′s notebook post that I sketched out a rough drawing of some logos for one of the clubs I’m in, KNESIS. I actually ended up going through and refining one of the iterations that I made, and this was the end result! I made this in After Effects, and I had a lot of fun thinking of ways to animate the logo.

Notebook Post - Week 12 (Week of 11/19)
I’m starting to plan this now since I know I won’t have as much free time later on in the semester, but one of my other class finals (the class is Still and Moving Images) is to make any sort of video that we want - I figured that I would try doing a rough storyboard and some rough sketches since we learned how to do that in I&P! I’m considering editing it in After Effects instead of Premiere (like most people would most likely do to edit a music video or longer video) so that I can try incorporating elements that I’ve tested and used in my constant output.

Notebook Post - Week 11 (Week of 11/12)
Some (very) rough plans and ideas for my future casting project. Now that I’ve received the feedback to think about scuba diving equipment as opposed to ICU ventilator equipment, I’m started to rethink what my design should be. We’ll see what sticks!

Notebook Post - Week 10 (Week of 11/5)
Did some super quick sketches for this week for some ideas to make my own logo, since I’ve been thinking about making a personal logo but never really gave much thought to it. I’m not sure if I’ll actually go ahead with any of the ideas that I wrote here, but I just wanted to write the stuff down and iterate to see if anything would stick!

Response - Lofi Prototype Feedback
I got a lot of extremely helpful advice today, and a lot of things to think about! Some suggestions that got made to me were the questions of different tier systems - different tank styles, differently sized tanks, and different qualities of gas - while other suggestions were clarification-related feedback about making certain details of my framing story more specific (for example, how frequently gas refills would be needed and how immediate the threat was).
Overall, I think I can incorporate all of the advice that I got into my final hi-fi prototype/product- since I already have most of the stuff that I want, I’ll be tweaking it based on the suggestions that I received, and then incorporating all of this together to create a physical prototype.

Update: Future Casting Project
Something interesting came up in breakout rooms today. All of the people in my room said that my idea was good, but they were also curious about the price of gas now that I’ve switched my thinking over to the scuba diving versus the ventilators. This kind of got me thinking about the ethics of living in a dystopian world like the one I’m imagining - if you have to pay for gas and its not an unlimited resource, then I wonder if I could raise questions about social classes and class inequality with my framing message. I’ll think about this a little bit more to see if I want to include this into my message.

Personal Passion Project: Week 11 (Week of 11/10)
This edit honestly didn’t have too many new things besides the borders in the beginning, but this was something cute that I made for a friend’s birthday this week!

Update: Future Casting Project
Initially, I based my research and overall ideas on the idea of an ICU ventilator- however, after hearing feedback during class, I decided to go with an approach more similar to scuba diving equipment. This will also obviously mean that I have to change around the way I’m thinking about my future object, but hopefully it’ll be easier for me to express my ideas with this new approach!

Future Casting - Framing Message
In my dystopic future, the surface of the Earth is no longer inhabitable. Some major catastrophe - perhaps the explosions of many supervolcanoes at once - has caused the air to unbreatheable, forcing human civilization underground. However, the air underground is harder to breathe; air circulates from underground and back to the surface, and while the air is filtered, some toxins still come and go into the underground habitats. Thus, the underground mask was invented in order to assist in breathing and to maximize oxygen while minimizing toxins.

Breakup Letter
Dear special underground mask,
I’m sorry, but this isn’t working out. I know we love to spend every fleeting moment together - it’s not as if we have a choice - but lately I feel like we’ve slowly begun drifting apart. I miss the days when we didn’t need regulation, when the air was perfectly fine to breathe without help, when we could actually see the light of day and not have to worry about anything. You’re just too much of a hassle. I’m sorry but it’s true. Your filtration unit is just too heavy, your facial covering too invasive. All I’m asking for is just a moment without you, even if just a fleeting one, but you just won’t ever let me out of your clutches. It’s almost toxic, the amount of attention you need and crave, with nothing in return. No, that’s a lie - I can’t say I’d be here without you, but I still can’t stand this anymore. Since my birth you’ve told me that everything would be ok, but is that really true? Would you call this world ok? Does it really make you happy to literally drain my energy, to draw every breathe out of me and shove every breath in? Maybe it’s inconsequential to you, but I can’t do this anymore.
I’m sorry, but this is the end. I hope everything can work out for you. I hope you can treat others better in the future. I hope you can make people more comfortable, and that I’m the last one that will ever feel like this. But I know that I won’t be the last, because it’s in your nature. You’re toxic.
Goodbye.

Personal Passion Project Part 2/2 - Week 9 (Week of 10/27)
This week, I didn’t have much time to do a whole edit, so instead I did small parts for two different collabs! Both are pretty simple, but I tried to work out motion blur and to smooth out my transitions as much as possible.
