i have noticed that recently there has been a person who has been going around the cookie run fandom asking many artists, especially those with open straw pages, to draw female cookie run characters (predominantly Cream Soda and Kouign-Amann) as mermaids. currently, it's Mermay right now which would make these requests seem very appropriate, but this person has been doing this for quite some time now, even before May.

this is a practice called fetish mining, in which someone asks multiple artists to draw one specific thing for their fetish. this doesn't always turn out to be fetish mining, but most of the time it is. reminder that a fetish can be absolutely anything - from things you would expect to be a fetish like feet, to seemingly regular things like buying bread from a supermarket - so this person having a fetish for mermaids is very much possible. the reason why it is considered a bad thing is because this is all without the artists' consent. they are not told and do not know that they are drawing fetish artwork. and some of these artists can even be MINORS.

i am not accusing them of having a fetish but you should be careful nonetheless. if you receive a request from this person, you can choose whether to draw their request or not, but you should be fully aware that you may be drawing something to fuel their fetish. and to people in the cookie run fandom, if you see something similar to this (someone asking many artists to draw an oddly specific request) PLEASE call it out and let others know 🙏 people on twitter caught onto this already and have called it out but i don't think anyone on tumblr recognises it yet. i am familiar with fetishes and i can easily tell when something is a fetish or not. if this person turns out to be innocent then i deeply apologise, but that is most likely not the case. please alert your artist friends and help them in identifying and calling out fetish mining!
