“While creation is originally good, and not to be eschewed, a malignancy has been introduced. When God mercifully decided to redeem his people, he did not take them out of the world. Nor did he identify the creation as evil. Rather he placed them in the world in order to be saved and then cured them of the cancer. Avoiding the seduction of the worldly system, we nevertheless engage the world and continue to transform it. While we wait for the life to come, we do not simply evangelize, though we certainly do proclaim the gospel. We take on doing his will on earth, as it is in heaven (Mt 6:10; Rom 12:1-2). That will is comprehensive, not just so-called spiritual endeavors, but actually including the whole realm of human life: family, citizenship, farming, artistic pursuits- in short, culture.”

Let’s get one thing straight, y’all.
Jesus didn’t die for you because you were worthy; you are worthy because He died for you.
God didn’t choose to save you because you are intelligent or beautiful or attractive or quick-witted; He saved you out of His great mercy.
He didn’t save you because of anything He saw in you. He saved you for His Name’s sake and glory.

Father,
I am a grain of sand in your ocean, yet you still think of me. This speaks not of my greatness, but of yours. To think that one so magnificent could be mindful of one so insignificant overwhelms my finite mind. The one who creates has died for the created, and the one who spoke light into being has spoken my heart into beating. I am undone by my wickedness, but you have bound up my wounds in your righteousness. Every word that flows from my tongue should be a river of praise to you.

As God creates, He establishes the boundary between creation and Himself, and (this is the point so often missed) He crosses that boundary. . . .He establishes that boundary by creating something that essentially is not, and could not be, what He essentially is. He crosses that boundary by communicating into creation. He communicates into creation in His word, in His works, and supremely in Himself [Jesus the Messiah]. This communication is God's revelation both to and in his creation.

But it’s not easy. I’ve been thinking it over for years. While we loved each other we didn’t need words to make ourselves understood. But people don’t love forever. A time came when I should have found the words to keep her with me, only I couldn’t.

In other words, they may mean: The final object of our pursuit is joy itself, rather than the beauty of what we find joy in. This is a very common mistake. . .the mistake of simply pursuing joy, not Christ. . . .God and God alone is the final, ultimate goal of our quest. All that God is for us in Jesus is the Object of our quest for joy.

His only boast is Jesus Christ. That is Christianity. That our hope is in God and not in man. All the other religions of the world, the hope is in man. Maybe you don’t agree with me. ‘No, my hope is in God.’ But think about it. You’re trying to work yourself to Heaven. Your hope with regard to heaven has to do with whether or not you’re good enough. You are hoping to be good enough to go to heaven. I am hoping that God is powerful enough to save those who have no hope in self.

The reconciliation of liberty with law can be accomplished only when the heart is in tune with a higher law than merely man’s law. When people who have recognized their sin turn to God’s grace, His law is seen as defining for the soul … Without redemption the law serves only to condemn them and draw attention to their shortcomings.

Psalm 16
A Miktam of David. Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, "You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you." As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whome is all my delight. The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
