pg 1 of my paper bag artbook. i've always wanted to learn how to use oil pastels but the learning curve always seemed insurmountable. it's waxy, streaky, and won't budge where you need it to and smears everywhere you don't. so i looked up art tutorials trying to close the gap in my incompetence. was met with apple, after apple, after apple.
oil pastels are still hard to work with, but instead of getting frustrated i tried to lean into the streaky imprecision of the pastels rather than control them. that started working better for me. i'd like to try my hand at pastels more often until i get comfortable. i will not be bested by a crayon.

made myself a new artbook out of old aldi bags. hoping to make some art that's as fun and experimental as the book itself
