Directed and choreographed by site-specific choreographer Noémie Lafrance, the short film Melt depicts a delicate, sensual and dramatic experience of the physical body in exile and surrender. Perched on a wall and wrapped in sculptural beeswax and lanolin costumes that are slowly melting away, dancers progress in euphoria and exhaustion as if approaching the sun, melting until their souls escape their ephemeral bodies and disintegrate into light.

Remembering what love is

My best friend always wrote letters to me. He loved to write to the people he cared about when he was away from home. Tonight I stumbled across this letter while I was carried away with work. This letter he wrote to me in October of 2012. He passed away in February 2014. His legacy for family and love continues to be my rock whenever I feel like I'm lost and need a reminder of who I am. Love, I am constantly reminded, is forever timeless. Keep those who gave it to you in your heart. They stay with you long after they're gone.

"Last night you posed a question to me that I had a lot of trouble putting into words… And I think I found the way to answer it… Why are you special to me? Although my speech and the way I word myself has changed I still think my strong point is in writing. I met you in 8th grade officially (we will ignore the 7th grade intro we had :P) and I thought instantly you were one of the most interesting people I’ve talked to. Socially you were interesting you had a personality unmatched by any other I had ever encountered, and you really sparked my interest. 8th grade progressed and we didn’t talk a lot but we talked enough for me to get to know you better, I found something you liked that I could jokingly make fun of so we could banter back and forth. 9th grade rolls by and I found I could trust you more than other people I have met and really started to open up to you… Something I don’t do often, although I am very open to everyone I think it is rare that II truly invest in someone like I did you, we became real friends….and then we started to date. I met you without goals, without ambitions, and without a real drive to success. You decided if we were to be friends you wouldn’t have that. You are the first person EVER to tell me “Tomorrow I expect to hear your goals in life” and that is the day my life began to morph again. I developed into a more sensitive unguarded person, I let down every wall to you and I felt this wanting to see you smile regardless of the sacrifice; I wanted your happiness as much as I wanted my own. And I started to feel that I wanted to know you passed the point of gray hairs, I really want you in my life forever. I became Brento and you are Natisha. Later on down the road we’ve had our bumps and bruises but that wanting for you to be in my life and that passion for seeing you smile never changed. I don’t want this to be all about the past so I am going to skip forward J Meow What I am trying to say is that from the moment I met you, you have been the most extraordinary person I have ever met. You constantly push yourself to the edges of stress to the point where you couldn’t function simply so that you could excel in different aspects of life. Despite doing various extra curricular activities and taking advanced classes you still made time for the ones you loved and when you couldn’t it hurt you. Pain is never a good thing, but it always shows someone’s priorities. You do often say “actions speak louder than words” but someone’s fear, pain, and thoughts speak the loudest in my opinion. When I saw you want to make Mami smile and when I see you shed tears simply because you don’t have time to see me or your friends It made me realize that you have such an amazingly good heart. You want to do so well at life and you show that you are willing to take on the workload that most people are afraid of and it still showed me that one of your biggest concerns was looking out for the ones that you hold dear. You, however, never took the time to appreciate all the great things you do. Hopefully now you do, but I was constantly in awe of you. Whether you believe it or not; when you put your mind to something 9 times out of 10 my jaw drops when I see it. I have been so proud of you at times it has brought me to tears to see how far you have come in life. You used to say you saw me as your guardian or your protector… And I saw you the same way, I never needed physical protection, I have been strong my whole life. When I came to you feeling so broken emotionally after my loved ones passed away, you were the ONLY one who told me I did not have to be the strong one all the time. You guarded me against fighting my own feelings and allowed me to experience vulnerability. You protected me against so much harm. I never asked you to do that, I never asked you to inspire me or be there when I am down (granted I did go home) but you never hesitated to be there for me. You say I treat you so special and claim you don’t deserve it, but I love you with all my heart because whenever I need someone or something to keep smiling or keep moving forward in my life I know you will be the first person to fly across the world to hold my hand through endeavors. You are my best friend, even when we don’t talk, or yell at each other, or when we are in the same bed snuggling so close that I can feel your heartbeat and our breathe aligns…. You will always be my best friend and I will always have your best interest in mind. Love is hard to explain, but I know this is more than just an amazing friendship, this is love, we are family and we will always be there for each other. I am not sure if this is the kind of answer you were looking for, or if it even answers the question of why.. To me it doesn’t matter why, it just is. It was both of us; we chose each other and saved a spot in our hearts. And once you are there you never leave. Because of you I became a man, I do not fear my faults or my emotions, I am more open, I am honest, I am courageous, and I work hard to excel in all that I do because you inspired me with all of your loyalty, love, and hard work. We are family.

You deserve to smile from the moment you wake up each morning until you start dreaming at night. I am just lucky enough to help make that happen. *ESKIMOS*

People gathered in National Cemeteries across the US on Monday to honor the memory of those who lost their lives while serving in the Armed Forces.

Originally known as “Decoration Day” after the end of the American Civil War, Memorial Day since expanded to commemorate the fallen in all US military conflicts. Traditions include laying flowers and flags on soldiers’ graves, parades in towns throughout the country and public addresses by veterans and state legislators.
