nice pair of characters who trust each other more than anyone else in the whole entire world it would sure be a shame if one of them betrayed that trust for the sake of trying to keep the other alive. it would sure be a shame to love someone so much you destroy them

expedition 33 as a game and narrative really respects the player's intelligence and assumes you're going to meet it where it is and i'm glad for that, but it does mean i have a lot of fun (psychic damage) reading takes because the story is intentionally emotionally difficult to wrestle with. and then the amount of nuance and grey areas involved seems to mean that the people on reddit who haven't read recreationally since high school are walking away with "oh, this one guy is exclusively evil and deserves to suffer forever while this other one is a complete saint and deserves everything they want no matter what harm it does to anyone else" as the sole message
