Hi! I saw you did commissions in blender, I wanted to ask, what are your dos and don鈥檛s for what you will and won鈥檛 put into a commission?
Oh hey! Sorry for the delay, I don't come along here that often. Things I like to do are action shots, portraits, and stuff with a a potentially mild amount of physics simulations. NSFW is alright too within reason. For the don'ts I'm pretty open on what to do, as long as the models can be provided. Just nothing that's too extreme. Also don't like working with underage characters, even if it's SFW. It's currently a thing of like; ask and I'll decide on if it's not a thing I'll do.

I liked the thruster on the warp star in the new Kirby AirRiders teaser so I attempted to recreate it a bit as practice. Of course right at the end I find out I at some point messed up a face a long time ago and there was no way in my personal skill and knowledge to fix it.

I hope I鈥檓 not being a bother putting thing son the post, I just want it to be more visible on my art blog.
But hello! I鈥檓 Neonhorn and I am a 3D artist, I have a background in SFM and have moved over to Blender for a few years now. While I mostly still do posing with pre-made assets, I鈥檓 also trying to learn to animate and model!
- Just do things. This isn鈥檛 the same as practice, but is a part of it. Just doing things, for fun, for serious, it doesn鈥檛 matter. Make something silly and dumb, every step counts.
- In my early SFM days I was told to use a rule of thirds overlay, using it helped me learn better composition and I can visualize the grid by now. Though bringing it up every so often is still good!
- if you鈥檙e not doing things professionally/for money. Take requests! It forces you to learn how to use different models in different poses and settings than what you鈥檇 do on your own. Plus making people happy is great.
- lighting is very important! Incredibly important! Almost always get your three point lighting down and go from there. In SFM there were fake PBR materials and you had to fake lighting and things like bounce lighting with limited lights. This skill has translated to Blender, while HDRI鈥檚 do a good job at general lighting. Adding your own lights can really make things pop and be more visually interesting.
- move those shoulders. No not the upper arm, the shoulders. The clavicles.
- something that I still struggle with is being okay with compete overhauls of a project. Sometimes you get near the end of a pose and you shift the model around or the camera and notice it looks much better in this position, but you then need to redo half the pose to make sense in it. It can suck, but also be worth it.
- it鈥檚 a part of the first point but; just finish things. Just get it done. You can agonize over something for days when it鈥檚 95% complete, or you can get it done and move onto the next things. Consciously or subconsciously learning. Though this doesn鈥檛 apply to big projects, just smaller ones/ones for fun.
- the content wheel is crushing and unless you鈥檙e planning on being a freelance artist full time, don鈥檛 fall for its wiles. We unfortunately live in an age that chews up and spits artists out and has little respect for them overall. Don鈥檛 burn yourself out for nothing.
- Final point for now: enjoy what you do.
If you're a visual artist, reblog and put in the tags advice that actually helped you improve your art, that isn't just the same "keep on practicing!! :)" platitudes.

And no, I'm not the kind of person to release other people's work. Even if I was, it just breaks upon loading it into the main install.
