Eddie and Shannon have one of the most interesting and complex relationships on the show. Especially if you think of Eddie as gay. Imagine you are a gay man, but you're repressing that fact because your dad always told you you need to be the man of the family and you grew up in Texas and you were raised Catholic. So you get a girlfriend. You like her, she's fun to be around, and you think you can fake it if it's with her. But then you get her pregnant and it's not a a matter of "You think you can fake this" anymore it's a "You HAVE to fake this. For the rest of your life." And that terrifies you but you're a man and you have a duty so you marry her. But you don't want to be around her anymore even though you do care for her and she's having your son because everything that you've lost is so painfully evident and it's suffocating. So you run off in the only way that doesn't make you look like the horrible husband and father you know deep down you must be. You stay away from her and your son because somehow, war is easier than living a lie.

But then you're shot and discharged and war isn't an option anymore, so you have to make it work. But you can't be in the same room with her without lashing out, so she leaves you. And you hate her for it but you also know you deserve it. But at least you have your wonderful, perfect son. You've never been there for him but maybe now you can prove yourself and be the father that your father never was. But years pass and you feel guilty for everything you did to her and you want to fix it. You want to prove you can be the man your dad would want you to be, that your son needs you to be, that she deserves. So you try again. You shove everything down and try again. You can have the perfect family that you're supposed to have. You can do this. She's funny and beautiful and a good mother and you love her, even if it isn't how you should. You're looking for a sign that you're doing the right thing and then you get it because she might have another child on the way. You need to support her. You can do this.

But then she isn't pregnant and worse... she doesn't want you. She knows you're a sham. You've been putting so much into this to try and be what she needs and she still doesn't want you. And before you even get a chance to feel anything about this, the next moment you turn around and she's dead. How do you feel about that loss? How do you even process something like that? The grief, the pain, the anger, the guilt, the resentment, the sorrow, and in the deepest, worst part of you, maybe even some sick relief that you don't need to pretend anymore. But more than anything, there's grief for her and your son and everything you lost along the way. How do you even begin to move on from that?

It is SO incredible to me that this episode really showed how important Buck is to the firefam. Buck spends so much time not believing in his own worth, and I think it’s easy for us as the audience to forget how important he is as well. Eddie, Bobby, Chim + Maddie, even Hen and Athena — all of them are not the same without the chaos that is Evan Buckley. I love that so much.

So. Should I watch ‘9-1-1 Lone Star’ now, or…?

I’ve heard very little about it, so I genuinely have no idea whether it’s worth watching. Thoughts?

Now, every time fans see some sign of possible queerness in media, they're going to say "but something similar happened in 911 and the fans were right!" For better or worse, Oliver Stark is validating queer subtext in media (it's sad that he has to do that, but it is what it is) with these interviews and I love it!

it’s been an intense month (seriously, this show has some seriously traumatic stuff), but i have LOVED being a part of it. i’ve loved interacting with you guys, and i’ve loved celebrating the joy that is another bisexual character (I LOVE EVAN BUCKLEY!!). i’m very excited to be doing this week by week with all of you guys now 🥹

A few days ago, my older brother told me he didn’t like Buck, and I was mildly offended. Like it actually kind of hurt my feelings. I didn’t realize how deeply I identify with Buck until my brother was like “Buck is annoying and selfish and loud” and I was like “??? I’m a slightly younger female version of him - do you not like me?”

His take on Buck is very wrong and heavily misinterpreted anyway, so I’m not actually offended. But still. I’m a Buck defender til’ I die.

almost done with my first watch-through of 9-1-1! gonna be completely honest with yall - seasons 5 and 6 were harder to get through. season 5 felt like it was just trauma after trauma, and season 6 has felt very…disjointed? like a lot of the stories come from nowhere only to go nowhere. also, there were a few moments in season 6 that eddie felt out of character to me- moments where he didn’t seem to care about buck? like/ you’re telling me that eddie wrote buck into his will, AND buck had a meltdown when eddie nearly died… but eddie basically disappears when buck almost dies? i don’t even care about the romantic-coded buddie- where did best friends buddie go this season? i mean, they were still there sometimes (and the moments they had in s6 were cute and very domestic, obviously), but…yeah.

don’t get me wrong, i still love the show! i genuinely don’t think you could rip it from my cold dead hands now- i am definitely too far gone. there have been a lottt of banger episodes (i really liked the ep where chimney has to practice his leadership and ends up bringing ravi back to the firehouse! ravi needs to be a main character asap), and i’m a huge fan of each of the characters and their individual stories, but lord. i can actually TELL how much control FOX had over those stories.

main bonus from season 6 though - they tried so hard to make eddie straight that they accidentally made him seem soooo much more gay (or at least that is how it feels to me. the whole episode where he goes hiking and golfing to ‘flirt’ with women was so unserious). also, madney engagement episode(s) were so incredibly sweet 😭

i have one more episode in season 6 before i get to season 7, so i’m almost caught up! i’m already looking forward to it :)

hahahahaja wait, oh my god. buck went to eddie’s apartment to escape all the attention he was getting and HE FELL ASLEEP ON THE COUCH!? like i knew about him falling asleep on the couch (spoilers are hard to avoid when you’re a curious bitch like me) but i didn’t realize the context, and now that i have context…bro. buck is comfortable with eddie. peak best-friendism!!!!

Buck’s coma episode had me in constant tears. He is SO important to the team. The love that the team has for him is SO important, because that is HIS FAMILY!! His real family! Buck + Bobby is one of my faaaaavorite father/son relationships ever.

I am upset at how easy Buck’s parents got let out of their life-altering mistakes, by the way. I see what they’re trying to do, but they literally birthed Buck to be spare parts, and then spent his entire childhood/life treating him as an afterthought. They don’t deserve a relationship with him. Forgiveness? Eh. Debatable. A relationship though? Abso-fucking-lutely not.

++ Christopher’s little speech to Buck while he was in the coma was 🥹🥹 AND Eddie being in tears? God. I wish we’d seen more of Eddie’s reaction to his death though. It felt weird that we weren’t seeing more of his best friend…and I just know it has something to do with Fox. I don’t have proof; but am I right? They didn’t want to play into Buddie so they just made Eddie as minimal as possible?

season 6 uncle buck is…very hot. buck is always hot, but he is extra hot when he’s taking care of a child oh my god. him getting bested by Jee is SO cute hahaha

I put myself through the shooting again to see what I missed and here's what I came out with (IT'S A LOT):

Jesus Christ the way Eddie looks at Buck immediately

That shot of them just staring at each other before Eddie falls

The way Buck just stands there, completely frozen, doesn't even try to protect himself

HE ABSOLUTELY DOES REACH FOR HIM. HE REACHES FOR BUCK BEFORE HE PASSES OUT

Buck crawling to him and saying "Stay down, I'm gonna come, I got you."

"Hey just...just stay with me, okay?"

Eddie's first and only question is "are you hurt?" to Buck...brothers I am in shambles

Buck like actively cupping Eddie's face and saying "I need you to hang on."

The way Buck almost like collapses when a firefighter bumps into him...

Also INSANE that his first thought on seeing Taylor is "no comment" YIKES!!!

You can tell Buck is trying SO HARD to keep it together for Chris. Like he doesn't want to make things harder on him but it's like everything hits him all at once and he just can't keep it in because telling Chris makes it real. And makes him think that he should have been the one that got shot

"He's a fighter" while wiping away his tears...oh my love

Him breaking down is a relief cry, he drops his phone and just collapses in on himself out of relief

"It's gonna be okay, Buck." I just...love Chris and Buck so much. I love them so so much.

All the tubes sticking out of Eddie I'm sick to my stomach

And Buck takes such effortlessly good care of Christopher, of course Eddie would make him his guardian

"Buck snores...loud." Chris my king

"I'm fine. I'm not the one who got shot." Well it's clear you wish you were babe and that freaks me out!!

It's so interesting the way the rest of the crew doesn't even seem to...clock that Buck isn't just being reckless. Like he's actively trying to die. Daring the sniper to take him out

The fact that Taylor just leaves, playing into every insecurity he has but he doesn't even TRY to fight her leaving when he sees Ana calling...I have nothing to say to this it writes itself

"He doing okay?" "Better than me." BYE!!!

When Buck says it would have been better if he had gotten shot you can tell Eddie is like...stunned at what he said, but he IS recovering from a, oh that's right, major gunshot wound, so it's not like he can say anything about it.

Okay sorry the comparison between Buck telling Eddie "I'm here. I got you." and Athena telling Bobby THE SAME THING after he got shot???????

"Because Evan." I think it's the only time I've heard Eddie use his given name. It means something when he does. In this case "you aren't disposable you bonehead. Not to Chris. Not to me."

Genuinely insane experience. 10/10 would recommend
