tony gilroy saying any mention of jyn at the end of andor would’ve been pointless fan service as if she’s not literally the reason rogue one happens. as if she’s not the next logical step in andor’s storyline. just say you hate her and move on god.
#honestly just tracks with his centering of only male characters and sidelining the female ones#whyyyy did none of the female characters get any agency#instead they're just luthen's pawns or whateva

Some people just cannot think outside of the oppressed-oppressor binary: you’re either “the Man” the obvious villain or you’re “kept down by the Man” who is “sticking it to the Man,” the obvious hero. As a writer/illustrator put it, criticizing George Lucas’ work: “the OT films were the little guys fighting an oppressor… but in the PT, the Jedi had all the power. They were the oppressors. That “fight the power” spirit was gone.” The Jedi Knights are cool as long as they’re hunted by the Empire of the Sith, because they’re “sticking it to the Man.” But if they’re respected by people, if they’re working with the Senate of the Galactic Republic, they’re “the Man” and the Sith and Anakin Skywalker (or somebody else, this Underdog or Little Guy who is supposedly oppressed by guardians of peace and justice is never properly identified, in order to avoid the easily disprovable specifics) are the one who’re “kept down by the Man,” and by default, they’re the ones who’re “sticking it to the Man,” because in their heads, empowered and respected are the characteristics of Evil. And this reveals a deeply troubling mindset: “fight the power” and being victimized by “the power” is what makes you a moral, ethical, good person, even if that power is held by democratically elected officials with checks and balances or fairy tale monks who dedicate their lives to psychological and spiritual progress and to make sure that everyone is protected and there’s peace and justice in the world.
And herein lies the problem: people who only feel secure in their identity as "Good People" if they're fighting against an oppressive power cannot function without it and sooner or later, their desperate yearning for it will create it - and then, they will never be motivated enough to demolish it.

Idk it's crazy to me the amount of people I see that are like "oh Andor is the reason I got into Star Wars." Like, that's very much well and good, welcome aboard, but the issue I take is when some of those people then proceed to act like the entirety of the rest of canon is childish and tedious and Andor is "real adult media."
First of all, Andor wouldn't exist without the rest of Star Wars being done in the first place. Second of all, Star Wars has always been about the conflict between fascism and freedom, good and evil, at its core. Let's not pretend that George Lucas didn't write A New Hope with anti-Vietnam-war sentiments and then the prequels based on anti-90s-2000s-warmongering attitudes. Let's not forget that the very main character of the first six movies is a commentary on how easy it is to fall into harmful rhetoric that drives you to commit atrocities. Sure, say what you will about the man himself and how well he executed filmmaking, but why are we so eager to divorce Andor from the rest of Star Wars?
Additionally, echoing the sentiments I've read on this site numerous times since the conclusion of season 2, I also don't believe season 2 fulfilled its mandate of being a piece of Star Wars derivative media as it failed to mesh cohesively with Rogue One, and fell on tired tropes propped up by some political monologuing. I do see how there was potential if the series had truly gone for a full five+ seasons as they had the material to do so, but as it stands, season 2 is not some pinnacle of modern filmmaking. Its attempts at characterization are inconsistent at best and contradictory to the rest of canon at worst, while its themes and messaging are betrayed by its weak portrayal of female characters.
All this to say I don't think Andor is bad, even season 2 is not bad in comparison with some of the bland, utterly frustrating attempts at writing we've gotten over the past few years. But I guess I'm a little put off by the popular notion that Andor somehow rises above the media it was derived from. If you needed Andor to like Star Wars, then it's possible that you never really understood Star Wars? At the risk of promoting Star Wars too much when it is arguably weak in a number of ways, I truly believe that Andor simply supports the thesis the Star Wars has always advanced; it did not somehow revolutionize the franchise.
Thank you for reading my soapbox! Again, there's a lot more nuance to be had here, but these are some of my basic thoughts to chime into the conversation that's already been had. Just wanted my opinion out there as a long-time Star Wars fanatic.
#star wars#andor season 2#george lucas#I know a lot of this may have been said already#but here's my message of support#I suppose#my thoughts

part of the reason I think it’s so sad that we collectively write so few stories about unrequited love is bc I feel like there’s very little public acknowledgment of how much it sucks to be the one somebody is in unrequited love with??? and not in a way of like, oh they’re crossing boundaries or putting expectations on me or whatever. becoming close friends with someone and then finding out they’re in love with you and you don’t love them back the same way is heartbreaking, bc a) someone you love is in pain and there is literally nothing you can do about it, and b) it usually means that whether you like it or not there’s going to be distance in your friendship that wasn’t there before as they try to get over you. idk man I just feel like we’ve all discussed the tragedy of loving someone who doesn’t love you back quite a lot and very rarely discuss the tragedy of finding out the way that you love someone just isn’t enough.

The one thing Andor did that had me cackling is showing how utterly ridiculous Bail Organa is. Like Luthen has 8000 secret identities and Mon Mothma is tweaking out all the time and meanwhile Bail is rolling up with C3PO and R2D2 and his multiple Jedi contacts and his force sensitive daughter and his rebel cell that keeps blowing up star destroyers and literally no one in the empire ever does anything about it I love him
#i mean they did also kill bail organa.#that was a pretty significant thing that happened.#like i understand where you’re coming from here but they very much did blow up bail organa.#(that's what this post reminds me of all love to op!)

Star Wars really said "Anakin Skywalker had issues rooted in childhood trauma that was not his fault" but also "Anakin made his own choices as an adult for which he alone is responsible" but ALSO "In spite of the truly evil things he chose to do Anakin was still capable of being loved and redeemed" and I think that's important.

Hey, (not so) casual reminder that generative AI has no place in fandom spaces, and I mean any generative AI use.
The “level” with which genAI is used, whether by an individual or a company, does things to this planet regardless. Scale does not matter.
Every prompt you put into genAI uses an amount of fresh water that, once evaporated, will never exist on this planet again.
Here are some resources for education yourself and others on the environment aspects of genAI usage, mostly centered toward the power consumption and data center impact.
Link
I think it’s also important to note that genAI not only impact the environment, but also creative communities. Writers and artists have their work stolen daily to train genAI models, and those models spit out their work in a predictive manner.
Generative AI predicts the most likely results of whatever prompt you give it based off of material it has been fed—this is plagiarism, plain and simple.
If you are curious about fandom aspects of genAI specifically, I’d like to point you in the direction of this article by rolling stone: link
One of the individuals interviewed for this article, Elle, made a Reddit post about a commenter on ao3, and how they’d been feeding her work into ChatGPT in order to “get the next chapters earlier.” Here is the link to Elle’s original post: link
Please be aware that your use of generative AI, in any capacity, contributes to the things listed above, as well as the encouragement and normalization of mass plagiarism in our communities.
Do not be shocked or surprised when people in this space choose to turn their backs on you, block you, or oust you when they find out you participate in its use.
If I found out any piece of writing I’d created had been fed to genAI, through a roleplay bot or otherwise, I’d not only be devastated, but disgusted. I’d leave fandom spaces because of it. It’s not fun, and it’s not quirky.

The Organas and the Lars family are all well aware that the children they’re raising each have a sibling somewhere in the far reaches of the galaxy. They can never say anything, since Luke and Leia would be in grave danger if the truth of their heritage were to get out, but sometimes the twins’ adoptive families can’t help but think about the other child that they will never know.
Breha notices her daughter’s title causes her to struggle with finding companions her own age and wonders if that loneliness might have been lessened had the twins never been separated. Sometimes, she imagines taking Leia’s brother by the hand and introducing him to the people of Alderaan as a beloved member of the Organa family just like his sister.
Beru starts stitching a family tree -a tradition among slaves and former slaves on Tatooine, meant to bring together families that were separated by slavery- but struggles to finish it when she realizes it’s too dangerous to include her niece. After the war, Luke and Leia create their own, and Leia displays her connection to the Lars family line like a badge of honour.
Bail is always concerned about Luke’s wellbeing somewhere in the back of his mind. The Lars family are supposed to be good, hardworking people, but even under Obi-Wan’s protection, Tatooine is a hostile place to live: especially compared to a temperate core world planet like Alderaan. Since he is unable to directly intervene so far out in Hutt Space, his contacts within the rebellion are occasionally tasked with checking in on the state of things in and around Tatooine’s settlements. On the occasions where Owen and Beru found themselves struggling to put food on the table, an off-world traveller would soon arrive offering to pay handsomely for something like mechanical help or a ride to Anchorhead.
Owen tries not to dwell on what-if scenarios and focus on keeping his nephew safe, but raising a force sensitive child -much less a force sensitive child of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala- is stressful on the best of days. When people in town murmur under their breath about how odd the Lars boy is, he worries. Both that the empire will take the whispering about Luke being odd seriously, and that the little girl Obi-Wan told them about when he arrived with baby Luke hidden under his cloak might be put in danger by those same whispers.

revenge of the sith is about bad timing. some orchestrated, some not. obi wan leaves anakin to go kill grevious when he’s in most need of a mentor figure. mace tells anakin to wait and he doesn’t. obi wan interrupts padme’s attempted deprogamming of anakin at the exact worst point then leaves just in time for palpatine to swoop in. coincidental bad dreams. suspiciously timed promises. all of it happens in such a compressed period it’s hard for anyone to breathe. return of the jedi is the movie where vader says “it is too late for me” and luke says never, it was never too late

PSA: Credit Card Phone Scam
(Or, how Tumblr just saved my ass)
I saw a PSA recently about a scam going around with spoofed official numbers calling and asking for information, and how you should hang up and call back using the correct number rather than just go along with what the caller is telling you. But this is Tumblr, so I'll never be able to find the post again.
I decided to make my own, because this literally just happened to me an hour ago. Hopefully my story can spread some more awareness and save other asses the way mine was saved.
Around 7:30pm tonight (Friday), I got a phone call from a 1-800 number. I almost didn't answer it, then I saw it was 1-800-465-4___, and I recognized that as the start of the CIBC phone number, so I picked up.
Me: Hello?
Guy: Hi, is this [MrsD]?"
Me: Yes.
Guy: Hi, [MrsD], this is _____ from CIBC, how are you tonight?
I thought, okay, this is a sales call. Right before I'm about to sit down for dinner. Typical. Mentally, I'm already putting together an exit strategy, preparing to say no to everything and get off the phone ASAP. But then—
Guy: We've just flagged suspicious activity on your CIBC Visa card. It was an online BestBuy transaction for $980.00. Was that your transaction?
Me, flustered: Uh. What? Sorry, how much?
Guy: $980.00 at BestBuy, was that you?
Me: Oh. At BestBuy?
Guy: Yes, your card was used at a BestBuy in [town nearby]. Was that you? Did you go to [town nearby] today? You don't live in [town nearby], right?
Me: Uh. No?
Guy: Okay, so I need some information to verify this transaction.
By this point, my brain had caught on that something about this was hinky. First of all, I thought he said it was an online purchase, then he said it was in person. But maybe I'd misheard, he was talking fast. My second thought was that every other time there was a suspicious transaction, I got an automated phone call and a text message with instructions to call back. I've never had a person call me directly.
My third thought was, well, the phone number on the caller ID was right....
THEN! I remembered a Tumblr post I saw recently, and I remembered what it told me to do.
Me: I'm skeptical about this call. I'm going to call CIBC myself and look into this.
Guy: What? Ma'am, you can just tell me, I can verify—
Me: No. Thank you, but I'll call the number on the back of my card.
Guy, getting more agitated: Ma'am, if you look at the number on your card, you'll see it's the same number.
Me: You know that can spoofed, right?
Guy: Uh— but ma'am—
Me: Sorry, but I need to make sure. I'm going to call CIBC directly.
The guy kept sputtering, but I hung up on him. In that moment, I really didn't think that he was a scammer. In fact, I thought I was being paranoid and was maybe kinda rude to the guy. I wondered if I was being overcautious, and I felt a bit guilty.
I called the number on the back of my credit card, waited 15 minutes for an agent, and told him what just happened.
IMMEDIATELY—
Agent: You didn't tell him anything, did you?
Me: No. I said I wasn't in [town nearby] today, but that's it.
Agent: Good. You did the right thing by calling us, let me look into the transaction for you.
Then, a minute later:
Agent: I'm not seeing any transaction like that. There's no flags on your card, nothing suspicious at all.
Me: So it was a scam?
Agent: Yep. Entirely fake.
I was honestly surprised. I really thought that there was some kind of mix-up and that I would be apologizing to this guy for being rude to his colleague.
Looking back on it now, I can see all the telltale signs of it being a scam call:
Time of day. Early evening on a Friday, chances are people are either sitting down for dinner or in a hurry to get somewhere. In this situation, a lot people probably wouldn't think twice about giving "the bank" some information just to get off the phone. (Joke's on them, I have no life!) But the way that I reacted to his introduction did evoke the desired reaction of Ugh, what now? Leave me alone! that the scammer was banking on (pun intended).
Sense of urgency. The scammer spoke fast, threw details at me quickly, and made sure I knew that I had to give him my information right away. This honestly threw me off. It was overwhelming, and I felt concerned and a bit frantic for a few seconds until I thought about what I know about scams and what I'd just read in that Tumblr PSA.
Complete lack of empathy or understanding about my skepticism/anti-fraud precautions. The last time I had to get a new credit card number due to fraud, the agent I spoke to said things like "I know this is frustrating", "I'm sorry this is a hassle", etc. And of course the CIBC agent I spoke to tonight was immediately grateful that I'd called them directly and reassured me that CIBC would never ask for information. By contrast, the scammer was outright dismissive of my concerns and got agitated when I wouldn't just trust him right off the bat.
Emotional provocation. Similar to #2 & #3 above, the scammer was very good at making me feel things. Worried and fearful at first, then guilty about being suspicious, to the point where I actually apologized to the guy. (Granted, I am Canadian, but still!)
And finally, I cannot stress enough: the spoofed phone number. I am a pretty well-informed person. I keep up with news about scams and whatnot. I know that phone numbers can be spoofed. I've been in front of my phone when it just starts to ring and I can see the auto-dialler number appear briefly before it gets replaced with a number that has my area code. But tonight—early evening on a Friday—I was cooking dinner and my phone was across the room. It had rung several times by the time I got to it. I only picked it up because I recognized the CIBC number. And when the scammer started his spiel, the fact that the number was the same was enough for me to give him just a tiny moment of trust. Had he actually gotten past that first barrier and started requesting my information, I think I would have caught on, because people asking for sensitive information over the phone is a huge obvious red flag. I like to think I would have caught on, anyway. But maybe not! That fake number almost had me.
TL;DR: No matter what the number on your caller ID says—that it's your bank, your energy company, your internet provider, whatever!—if the person on the other end is requesting sensitive information urgently, don't panic. Stop. Think. Then tell them nothing, hang up the phone, and call your service provider yourself using a verified phone number.

🇺🇸massive recall of food, baking ingredients, and cosmetics due to insanitary conditions, filth, and rat shit contamination🇺🇸
over 150 items being recalled, including some intended for babies. the FDA warns that all products held or distributed by this company may be dangerous.
this recall is so bad that you need to clean and sanitize anything that has even touched the outside of these products.
the recall link may move in the future. this recall has its own special FDA page right now because the FDA issued an advisory immediately after inspection, before a recall could even be issued. the findings of the inspection were just THAT fucking disgusting.

June 3, 2025 On May 27, 2025, Pan-African Food Distributors initiated a recall of various products it sells. FDA continues to have concerns for all products held and distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors due to the insanitary conditions observed at the facility during a routine FDA inspection, including a rodent infestation and numerous rodent droppings on multiple product containers. FDA is advising consumers and retailers not to use, eat, sell, or serve cosmetic and food products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors of Louisville, Kentucky. FDA is working with the firm and their direct customers to remove all products of concern from the market. More information will be provided in this alert as it becomes available.
some emphasis mine.
the distribution center was inspected, the FDA found a massive rodent infestation, and they shut that shit down. literally, they found a ton of rodent shit all over the products. although the distribution center is in kentucky, these products may have been distributed nationwide.
pan-african food distributors is also doing business as (dba) east africa boutique, LLC.
the FDA says more updates will be issued about this. because this one is a big deal.
Products held under insanitary conditions and contaminated with filth could pose a serious health risk, potentially leading to various illnesses, including leptospirosis, hantavirus infection, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, E.coli infection, and rat-bite fever. People should contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they have developed symptoms as a result of eating or using these products.
some emphasis mine.
the risks here are varied and bad. bad bad. bad and potentially deadly. if you have used or eaten or even held these products and experience symptom, GO TO A DOCTOR!
Consumers should check their homes for food and cosmetic products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors and discard all products. If you do not know if your product was distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors, throw it away. Additionally, consumers should carefully clean and sanitize surfaces that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.
clean and sanitize ANYTHING these products have touched!!! if you are not sure if your item is part of this recall, the FDA says the risks here are so bad that you should just throw it away!
recalled items include baby food, baking ingredients, various types of flours, soaps, shampoo, lotion, baby powder, and so much more. this list contains over 150 recalled items. so check under the cut for the list, or visit the link at the top of this post.

only items related to pan-african food distributors inc/east africa boutique LLC are being recalled. if you have these types of items and know for sure that they came from another distributor, they are not part of the recall. but again, this is so fucking dangerous that if you are unsure, throw it out and clean and sanitize everything that touched the inside or outside of these products.
also note: as mentioned at the top, this recall may have its link moved, and will likely at least have an additional link for the recall. what the FDA found was so fucking disgusting that they actually issued a special advisory before the recall was initiated.
this post may be updated in the future, either under the read more or in reblogs, as new information comes out. if you want to keep up with this, bookmark the recall link and/or check the notes every now and then!
stay safe and take care!
