Arnaea, The Voice of The Empire
The sworn lord of Outis and apprentice to Vritra, The Destroyer. Empress Arnaea, young as she is at a mere 25 years of age, governs her people with an iron fist.
One guided by concern for her people but but an iron fist nonetheless.
The Empire is a haven to all those scorned by the light, banished from their homes or with no home to call their own. A congregation of the misbegotten, villainous and oppressed and Empress Arnaea is its inheritor.
Taking up the mantle after her predecessor and parent succumbed to the parasitic spirit with which they originally carved out the empire's current position of power, Arnaea ordered a mask be forged from the corrupted remnants of the former ruler's armor.
A reminder to all those who saw her whose whose daughter she was and a reminder to herself of mistakes not to be repeated. With the skills and knowledge taught to her by the now retired imperial archmage, Vritra, there are little who would challenge or scheme against her.
The few that do always meet a very grisly end through Outis, Arnaea's ever faithful shadow and loyal confidant. She is one of the only people to have ever seen the general's face.
The circumstances and extent of their relationship are unknown besides that Outis was appointed as the right hand of the empress following her return, coronation and the departure of Archmage Vritra. With Outis' assistance, any doubts of her suitability to rule were very quickly silenced.
The two, as jaded and cold as they were to the world and its future, knew they would always have each other, both to support and to be supported by.

hear this cursed form sing
While they were born to human parents into the body of a girl, Outis is far from human. Haunted by the memories of others they live out in their nightmares, their own sense of identity has greatly deteriorated. It's difficult to recognize the person they see in the mirror as a true reflection of themselves. In their own eyes, they're not even a real person.
Outis normally keeps the parasitic spirit within their gauntlet chained and sealed. Even with his legendary might, his profane power is dwarfed by Outis' own and his hatred kept under lock and chain.
In the moments that his influence does seep through, when Outis' will or consciousness falters, their body deforms into one more in-line with their true nature.
They are a far worse monster, no matter what dignified skin they disguise themself with and their parasitic partner knows it.

Dame Abhainn (Abby to friends!), 'Blade of Gomorrah' A virtuous, wandering, fae knight from a fallen kingdom wielding a blade of blue flames in search of her lost prince.
Born a halfbreed in the fae kingdom of Gomorrah to a foreign elf and fae citizen, Abhainn went unclaimed and abandoned by both upon birth.
Despite the endless prejudice and opposition regarding to her lowly background and mixed blood, she rose through the ranks of the military and eventually caught the eye of the royal prince. When he knighted her into his service, she was overjoyed and swore loyalty to him.
This oath was only reinforced when she came to understand his ideals and vision from the kingdom’s future. He longed to build a haven for people like her and his betrothed, who were scorned for their blood, species or abilities.
It was this ideology and them taking actions towards it that gave foreign kingdoms excuse to crush them. The scars of trauma from centuries of conflict were masterfully manipulated to turn the world against Gomorrah and so its people and the refugees were slaughtered or enslaved.
Abby was a case of the latter. Picked up by the orchestrator who was fascinated by her ancestry, she became the primary test subject for countless cruel experiments or even just torture for her captor’s amusement for years. All the while, she drowned in guilt over her failure to protect her lost lord.
It’s only by the grace of The Destroyer, Vritra, that she was freed from her captivity upon his discovery of her captor’s research. All her laboratories were swallowed by his waves, her test subjects freed while the sorceress was forced to flee from his wrath.
While he healed Abhainn where he could, the damage to her was extensive on a physical, spiritual and mental level. She regained movement with handcrafted, magical prostheses and underwent physical rehabilitation until she was deemed capable enough.
Thus, she set out in search of her lost lord, helping whoever she found along the way and garnering a reputation among the continent for her heroics and even mentoring the famed Ulysses for a time.

"I am in every shadow, protecting you." A species/role reversal AU ft. Spirit!Hero & her partner
A separate wordline wherein The Empty Maw and all other spirits were born mortal while their partners were born spirits. The Empty Maw of this world has no name, no family, no past or ties to anyone. Only the aching, gnawing hunger that drives it to consume.
Only consumption makes that emptiness go away, if only briefly. He doesn't know when the woman in the shadows became attached to him nor why but she makes the hunger pangs go away and he remains eternally grateful. They are all that each other have.
