My thoughts on MewGulf and advice for new fans...

I cannot emphasise this enough. If you're a new MewGulf, or Mew or Gulf fan, for the love of god do not go near the subreddits on the subjects. That space has been taken over by hateful, small minded, petty people.

People who dug in deep months ago with the conclusion about Mew and Gulf based on less evidence than there is for the flat earth theory but because they've acted like such complete asses at the time, they're stuck doubling down now because to admit their bullshit stank is to admit they aren't the nice people they think themselves to be.

I was friends with some of them once. It's been sad to see them turn twisted and hateful to this extent. Perhaps they always had the resentment there but didn't want to admit it and the change in December and January just gave them excuses to embrace that more.

I don't know.

But if you are new and you are looking for information, please tread wisely and remember that no fan, no matter how devoted, actually knows anything for sure about Mew or Gulf or what their relationship is or was. We are all speculating. Just don't let yourself get sucked into the drama filled world of haters. They're kids who had their toys taken away, toys that weren't actually theirs to begin with, and now they're throwing tantrums for months about it.

But no one really knows. And when you think you've come to your own conclusions, examine them again and ask yourself how much of what you're concluding is about your own pain, needs, insecurities and not at all about what is actually real about Mew and Gulf.

They are both really wonderful people. You don't have to be their fan. You can be fan of one and not the other. But there's so little reason to hate either of them.

If you don't feel the things you felt with them now as you did before, then process that and move on and find some more joy.

There's nothing exciting about saying, "Nothing happened. They're just the same." like there is about implying you have some hidden, special knowledge or insight into drama between two people. There is power in holding that over others. Power that will attract people, gain them the attention they crave, make them feel special.

And even if something has changed. Even if things aren't the same between them. Assuming there must be a villain, that there must be manipulations and abuse is also much more "exciting" than just saying, "I don't really know."

I do recognize that some people felt hurt. But there is no rule that says hurt has to be processed through anger or distilled into hate. But what has happened on the subreddit, the emergence of the MulMuls, that's beyond hurt. That's malice. It takes only a moment, a small step back form it all to ask "over what?" and to see how ridiculous and sad it all is.

Over the lack of social media likes. Over the change in how two people display their relationship publicly. Over the privacy and right of two people to do what they need to do and protect what they need to protect of themselves as people who are so much in the public eye. Over not feeding our needs and fantasies.

Just...I don't know. Examine your reactions to things when resentment creeps up from disappointment. Recognize that the human mind craves closure and to fill in the missing pieces, but that doesn't mean what it does that with is correct, factual or even healthy.

From a Waanjai who has been enjoying watching Mew and Gulf grow as individuals in their own careers, who still finds joy in their old content, who feels heartache and misses them all the time, and who still mourns the loss of a community and friends who found hate a more delicious prize than patience.

I don't know what the real thing is between them. I know only that nothing I have seen over the two years says anything about either of them being cruel, manipulative, naïve or immature. Entirely the opposite of all those things.

What do I think happened?

I think Mew and Gulf are adults who have a bond and have made decisions based on what they feel is best for them, their careers and their families as is their right. They are doing fantastic. Mew's new album hit world wide iTunes charts in the top 5. 5 of the songs on his album hit Billboards top 10. Forbes has written about him. He is producing a series he helped write and will be staring in, but he made it so that there is no one character focus so he's not the "star". He has collaborations coming with other Thai artists and international artists as well. He gets invited to all the things.

Gulf is a darling of brands across SEAS and beyond. He is endorsing brands left, right and centre. He is the face of Biodiversity TH and has released songs and is the top ranked artist with Ch3 two months going now. He has two series coming out, and his fan base is only growing. He is always working. He has received recognition and invitation from major fashion houses in Europe. He recently signed with one of the biggest channels in the nation but worked out a contract that still gives him freedom few other artists have because he has that much leverage.

They both spend a lot of time donating their time, influence, and money to support important causes and charities.

They are busy. They are working in a politically tense climate in their country, with COVID still a very serious issue and lockdowns ongoing.

They love their fans and devote entirely too much of themselves to make us proud and worthy of their support.

That's what I know and see and think happened. The rest? none of my fucking business.
