why didn’t you like british dimitri :(
I can't lie, he's simply not sexy enough. This is the man that had these hoes framing each other for murder for the CHANCE to be with him. You cannot convince me that British boy could inspire such nonsense.
On a more serious note...
My issue with British! Dimitri really just speaks to my larger issue with how the show, and others like it, chose to adapt the source material. I literally HATE when one of my favorite book series is adapted and it is done in a way that the VA show did. It's this thing that a lot of YA adaptations do where they take the basics of a series like the setting, characters, and usually the overarching premise of the first book and use it to create it's own show. It's what Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, and Shadowhunters did. They take the series and gut it for parts to make a broadly marketable series that they can push for as many seasons as possible. An "adaptation" that you can identify as the book series, but also tells a completely different story. This isn't me saying these shows are bad television shows. I am saying they are bad adaptations. Of the previously mentioned shows I was only able to get through Vampire Diaries and most of Pretty Little Liars, and that was because I didn't read the books before I watched it. I wasn't met with the soul crushing devastation I was met with when I watched Shadowhunters and realized it was not actually going to adapt the book. (It's why, even though it's a literal dumpster fire, I prefer the movie because it at least tried to follow the books) Some people don't mind this, and that's totally okay, but I hate it so much. I feel like these adaptations take away so much from the story they are adapting, and make it worse. Obviously they could make it work having Dimitri be British, but it also just alters so much about how he is characterized. He wasn't Russian in the way that Lissa and Adrian are. It wasn't just used to give him a cool name, or to make sense in the overall world building. Richelle made Dimitri being Russian a significant aspect of his character. It influences his plotlines and is a major factor in why he behaves the way he does. The changes made to show Dimitri fundamentally change who he is in the world of the series. Him being a foot taller than Rose isn't to make a cute height difference, it is to signify just how massive he is compared to the other Dhampirs. The boys refer to him as a god, and that's not just because he was a good warrior. If that were the case they'd say the same thing about Janine, and they don't. Dimitri's entire being makes him a force to the dhampirs. He is other worldly to them. The show made him plain, average. That is my issue with British Dimitri.

"I felt a twisted comfort in thinking Dimitri is a badass Strigoi"
Actually I take back every criticism I said about Richelle Mead's writing this is the most hysterical piece of foreshadowing I remember reading in ages.

Dimitri Belikov's impact on the women in these books needs to be studied. I thought it was just Rose's infatuation with the man she loves, but Sydney is also incapable of being around him without bringing up how hot, sexy, and charming he is. Kirova was also all up in his shit over the vests in "Hello, my name is Rose Hathaway". Then I remember how Tasha literally framed Rose for murder to get her out of the way for the chance at him. Like he breaths and someone turns into a slip n slide it's amazing.

Dimitri laughed, “yes well I never heard those comments Roza I didn’t talk to many staff or other students. You were the first to spend time with me.”
He smiled kissing her back holding her close standing up. “You’re my beautiful wild cat I adore your fierceness”
He grinned, “yes you’re right it was Kirova that sent me to retrieve you both. I asked to do it I wanted to prove myself and get out of the school. I was so impressed by you my little wild cat.”

He grinned, “what colour were you thinking then? You clearly had a plan and a colour you were thinking of Roza.” He loved flirting and having fun with Rose. “You drive me mad every day Roza”
Dimitri smiled at her softly, “black” he said grinning at Rose. “I’d like to see you in black it’s my favourite colour on you” Dimitri squeezed her hand quietly.

Honestly still mad that they un-nerdified our boy. Made him interested in biographies or some serious shit, like Dimitri's whole appeal wasn't that he's just some super buff dork doing a permanent low key cosplay of his favourite westerns and cranking 80's love ballads while making heart eyes at his boss-bitch girlfriend.

Dimitri smiled softly at her words. “Roza why you love me is something I never expected or hoped even in my wildest dreams. You are the fiercest woman I ever met. You chose Em and I wake up everyday thankful to whoever sent me to you” he kissed her again and then grabbed her legs lifting her so he could hold her closer. “I love you”

Her arms wrapped over his shoulders, looking into his eyes and feeling a blush rise on her cheeks. She wasn’t one to often blush, but his words brought that out of her.
“You’re not turning sappy on me are you comrade?” She teased lightly. “How could I not fall for you.” She then breathed and kissed him again, her fingers moving to push a little into his hair as she looked into his eyes. “I love you too.” She whispered, closing the gap again and kissing him a little deeper, fingers tangling in his dark hair.
“And if I remember correctly, it was St Vlads that sent you after me.” She teased lightly against his lips, chuckling a little.

Rose and Dimitri || Continued from here @never-hesitate-comrade

Rose smiled widely as he said he remembered. "Good, I wore it for you, so it better be memorable." She smirked. Her fingers lightly tangled in his hair as she looked into his eyes.
As he blushed, she couldn't help but smile a little more. She liked his blush. He didn't do it often, but it was something that was just for her.
"Well, I wasn't going to show you till the wedding night anyway. All I want to know.... is what colour you would like it to be?" She smirked. "Cause I want you to like it.. I want to make your jaw drop." She teased lightly.

Rereading the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead and realizing Christian Ozera and Dimitri Belikov 100% influenced my type in both real and fictional men. Dark haired and sarcastic? Tall and blunt? God how did I not realize the imprint Dimitri left ffs it’s so obvious help.

He smiled and kissed her softly, “yes…perfect I can’t believe it.” Dimitri whispered eventually rolling so he was lying next to her. “I don’t normally do this…when I first meet someone but you…you are different.”
Dimitri moaned fighting hard to stop himself from coming he desperately wanted to spill himself inside Rose. When he watched her come, he couldn’t last any longer and lost himself moaning her name as he slumped against her once his hips stopped. His breath was ragged and fast, he couldn’t think or speak only stare at the woman he was sure he was falling in love with.

Dimitri laughed softly at the comment. “Oh yes I remember that dress I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. I know you will be beautiful in anything you wear.” Her comment about the wedding night made him blush. “I’m not even going to ask I think I will leave that to you” he said laughing shyly.
He tugged Rose into his arms as she spoke. “You went to them to tell them of my death it’s time to return to tell them of our life together” he stroked her back gently. “Are you ready to be fussed over by a group of Russian women?” Dimitri asked playfully. He knew Olena and Viktoria would be very excited to fuss over Rose, “they will try to make you wear a dress Roza.”

“I have all the time in the world Roza to wait for you. I know with time you will agree” he stood by the wall watching her, “if I am truly as evil as you think why did I never come for you and Lissa? Why did I flee to Russia? I never wanted to hurt you Rose I still don’t. I will not force you I promise you will come to me willingly”
“Roza when I turn you, you won’t ever have to feel it again. You will be my companion for all of eternity. The sun is worth giving up for what I have now. I have power and immortality.” He did step back giving her space from him to stop the nausea.

Vampire Academy: no beta we die like Strigoi
do you know where "no beta we die like x" comes from and how it is used?
The term "beta" in this context is short for "beta reader" - a person who reads a fic while it's still in the editing stage and helps the writer get it ready to post. Some betas check grammar. Some check canon compliance. Some are sensitivity readers. There are lots of things that betas can do.
So functionally, saying "no beta" means that the writer didn't get this checked by a second person before they posted it. It's a warning that there might be errors or typos etc. It's mostly used when an author has written something quickly and is posting without doing a lot of (or any) edits first.
As for where it comes from? It all started with a bumper sticker.
This image was an internet meme at one point, and it got meme'd on in the form of "no ___ we ___ like men"
Here on tumblr, one of the versions that got really popular was from now-deleted user @grec1a who created this version:
From there, it migrated to AO3 as the "no beta we die like men" tag, and very often the word men is replaced by the name of a character who dies in canon.

Dimitri didn’t answer her as he tried to process what he had been forced to do. Re-assuming that side of himself now left the feeling of something toxic in his veins. Rose was like a distant echo as though from the bottom of a well, the words poured through his ears but he wasn’t able to think or care. He was trying to resist the urge to vomit, to purge the poison that was crawling through and over him.
How could Rose ever love him? She had seen a side of him that made Dimitri want to throw himself off a cliff in shame, if it wasn’t for his desperate urge to make some form of atonement to Lissa he likely would have done just that.
Eventually, he sighed and decided he should speak. “We need to hurry if we are going to find Sonya” he said hoarsely, accent coming out thicker now. Dimitri felt as if he was spitting the words out, they felt like glass tearing at his throat just to try and keep everything from spilling out of his mind and stomach.
The tension in the air was thick, and quite possibly one of the most uncomfortable silences of their entire time together since they'd been on the run. However, there was also something... Different about it. There was something haunted in Dimitri's deep brown eyes that snapped Rose's heart in two just to look at. It had been there since he'd been restored, and yet, at this moment, it seemed more intense. Rose noticed it all: the way Dimitri had been even more silent, the way his jaw was tightly set, the clenched fists, the tension in his muscles. Dimitri was right next to her, and yet, he was a million miles away. Rose had never done well with silence, especially from him, but after what had happened, she almost felt afraid to speak up.
Yet when had that ever stopped her?
"Careful there. If you keep grinding your teeth, you'll end up needing dentures much sooner. You're already barely clinging onto your twenties as it is, comrade," While the brunette tried to keep her voice light in what could very well have been a feeble attempt to lighten the mood, there were unmistakeable traces of weariness and caution in her voice. Rarely she held back, especially with Dimitri (though that had admittedly changed the past few weeks) but she was still unsure of how to approach the topic of what had happened, which, the dhampir was willing to bet her entire life savings of about $20.67 that the incident with the Strigoi was what was causing Dimitri's shutdown.

““… A guardian without discipline is worse than no guardian.” “So teach her discipline. Classes just started. Put her back in and get her training again.” “Impossible. She’ll still be hopelessly behind her peers.” “No, I won’t,” I argued. No one listened to me. “Then give her extra training sessions,” he said. They continued on while the rest of us watched the exchange like it was a Ping-Pong game. My pride was still hurt over the ease with which Dimitri had tricked us, but it occurred to me that he might very well keep me here with Lissa. Better to stay at this hellhole than be without her. Through our bond, I could feel her trickle of hope. “Who’s going to put in the extra time?” demanded Kirova. “You? ” Dimitri’s argument came to an abrupt stop. “Well, that’s not what I—” Kirova crossed her arms with satisfaction. “Yes. That’s what I thought.” Clearly at a loss, he frowned.”

Kirova × Dimitri; Vampire Academy- Two (Richelle Mead)
me, some fifteen years ago: Oh! Reluctant mentor trope!
me now, about five years older than Dimitri: “Me? Why me? Can’t anyone else do it? I’ve got enough work already! I have almost no free time left! When will I read?! Will you pay me overtime?! I didn’t think so…”

Dimitri moaned fighting hard to stop himself from coming he desperately wanted to spill himself inside Rose. His breath was ragged and fast, he couldn’t think or speak only stare at the woman he was sure he was falling in love with.
never-hesitate-comrade:
He moaned and kept rubbing as his hips rocked faster, he was forcing himself to wait, wanting to watch Rose fall over the edge first. “Roza!” He groaned then bent his head to suck at her breasts to help her come. “You taste so sweet” he groaned. His voice was rougher now, accent thicker.

Rose’s back arched as she let out another slow moan of ecstasy. Her fingers gripped his body, pulling him closer to her, needing full contact.
Nothing had ever felt as good as Dimitri did right now. Her fingers moved to his hair, tangling in his locks as she felt him mouth on her breasts, another moan escaping her lips as she rolled her hips into his fingers, into his crotch.
She wet her lips, her breathing quickening, the knot in her stomach building. She pulled his head back, looking into his eyes and pulling him to her, so their lips crushed together in a hot passionate kiss, as she felt the knot snap, her body tense and spasm as she felt her perfect release.
