Ahh this was all so odd. Honestly John was the last man who had ever thought about getting married - well, at least realistically. Everyone had that wistful moment when they wondered about the future he supposed, but he’d never expected his family to make a match for him. He’d been on a roller coaster of emotions since the moment he’d found out. Confusion and denial, anger and- well, he’d only really gotten to anger when he’d been told he was going to meet this mystery man he was expected to wed. And when he first saw Alexander, every annoyed comment and refusal had melted in a second. “..It really is.” He admitted with a soft smile. “Honestly, I had every intention of doing my best to push you away when i was told that I’d be meeting you for the first time. Though..I’m glad I showed up.”

Lafayette nodded, looking up as he zipped up his suitcase, trying not to burst into tears. He was ready to leave immediately, feeling like he would scream if he didn’t leave just then. “Please.” He whispered softly, standing up and picking up the suitcase. “I…I don’t want to be alone tonight. That sounds good.”

He paused for a moment before walking quickly over to John and pulling him into a tight hug, the tears pouring over. “Thank you.” He whispered softly, gripping onto John as he shook slightly, trying not to loose it.

It broke his heart to see his one of his closest friends so upset. He wrapped arms around the other man, letting his hand run along his back to try to sooth him as best he could. He'd do his best to make help him through tonight. And the sooner he could get him out of here the better.

"Want me to drive us? Trucks got plenty of space for bags."

Lafayette nodded slightly, though his attention was quickly diverted to the task ahead of him. His hands shook slightly as he arrived at his office door, slowly turning the knob and pushing it open. He walked to his desk and saw it- the one picture he had in mind when he came to his old home.

It was a simple picture, not really something that someone would bat an eye to if they’d come across it, but it meant the world to Lafayette. It was a picture of Lafayette and Adrienne in their early years, curled up in bed together. Lafayette was staring at the camera in the photo, a wide smile on his face, but Adrienne only had eyes for him. It was an expression of pure adoration and love on her face, something that Lafayette knew he would never see directed at him again.

His hand shook as he reached out to take the photo off of the desk, the tears welling up in his eyes once more. He picked it up and set it in his pile, face down, before brushing past John without a word, going to put that he had gathered into his suitcase.

"...Laf-" He stopped, chewing his lower lip and glancing down at the floor. Damn, had been a long time since someone just paying him no mind had stung quite that much. Last time had been Alexander, but that was hardly a surprise to anyone in their group at this point.

"...Hey. My Hotel has a bar and I have another nights stay already paid for. You want to go and spend a night drinking until we don't feel like shit for a little while? I think we could use the break, it’s been a long day." He offered with a weak little smile. "You can crash with me, then tomorrow we can go anywhere you want."

“You would be too blinded by Alex to notice if people were.” Lafayette said with a small, almost sad smile as he gently squeezed John’s hands before letting them go. He turned again, picking up the small pile he made before leaving the room, headed up to his office.

“There’s just a few more things I need to get before we go. Sorry to keep you waiting.”

The others words gave him pause, that little change in his expression making him heart sink a bit. As he turned and continued to pack up items, John found himself struggling to find fitting words. That single look had shaken him so easily, it was a bit unsettling. “Ahh... no problem take your time. It's not like I have anything else to do today.” He tried to joke, but his mind was still on the sad look in Lafayette's eyes moments ago – and why he suddenly felt guilt settling in his stomach.
