This! He isn't drinking his "respecting women juice", he's being a gentleman, and the figure of the gentleman is deeply misogynistic and rooted in sexism. I agree it makes sense tho.

No he doesn’t.

Alastor drinks his Act Chivalrous Toward The Women Who Meet His Personal Approval juice. A guy who’s polite to the women he personally likes and/or wants to get along with but performs traditionally sexist behaviors (such as sexual harassment) to others is not respecting women.

This isn’t a criticism of Alastor’s character. If anything I think it’s a flaw that makes his character more interesting! It makes sense for a dude who grew up in the early 20th century to have been raised to act courteous to women, to greet the neighborhood ladies and valiantly protect damsels in distress from bullies… but still believe he can revoke his courtesy if he decides a woman doesn’t “deserve” it anymore.

That doesn’t mean you can’t still like Alastor’s character—I certainly like Alastor’s character—but let’s not rush to give him credit for a virtue he doesn’t possess, yeah?
