Omg
I completely forgot to post this because I meant for it to be way longer, but I know that completing it to the point I wanted it to be isn't in my wheelhouse rn
Alfur human for a day adventure
There's like, two more pages that are finished atm, but neither of them feel like as good of a stopping place as this does akdnsk
Maybe that'll urge me to finish it more

im going to ramble here but i Really love this idea and all the tags underneath it!! and it makes total sense and i dont wanna be reductive here but: what if there's a Shadowfell? a place at the end, a bottomless pit instead of a wellspring. the inverse of the fey dimension, the overabundance of magic and feeling, and the utter lack of it - the void of no return. and i dont necessarily mean this in the d&d shadowfell kind of sense, but rather, that the Void is simply a lot bigger and a lot more vital to this reality than it lets on. a greater purpose to it, and the witches themselves.
after all, we saw the ENTIRE cylinder of the witch's tower be used as a GIANT CONDUIT for a GIGANTIC beam of raw soul magic that shot all the way into the sky, just for what frankly seems to be a somewhat lesser spell. the whole witch's tower is, i wager, a magic channeling device of some design, and possibly an amplifier. and what's immediately underneath that cylinder? the void.
i mean doesn't it seem a little strange that they just Have That There, in a very important and presumably ceremonial, powerful room where the heads of the witch society always gather? it's not locked away where you might expect something so ominous and foreboding to be. noo, the void of no return is Not tucked back in a huge damp basement or dungeon or pit. it's practically the centerpiece/undercurrent of the entire tower. easily accessible, used to irrevocably consume whatever is thrown into it. and, of course, it NEEDS to be fed. it's not clear if it Has to be fed people, specifically, like they're always trying to do, but what *is* clear is that the Fairy Isle, inversely, does. it needs bodies. it's explicitly stated to "need people", in a way integral to keeping it running - doing whatever it does - and probably keeping the Entity alive.
plus, don't the witches kind of seem to take their job - whatever it is - kinda seriously? the millions of books and bookshelves stacked floor to (very high) ceiling, kaisa being "the keeper of the books", the extreme specificity of even the simplest spell, the void, it all sort of feels like it points toward the witches' role in things, which could very well be, yes, the balance at the more negative end of the scale.
although the void of no return shares one key thing, i think, in common with the fairy isle: once you go in, you're gone, and can't come back.
Hmm. If you’re telling me that in the Fairy Island the sun never sets, then judging by the rule of action and reaction then there must be a place where the sun is always set, or where there is no sun. A place that instead of generating magic and sending magical creatures onto the world, like the faerie dimension does, must suck magic back and feed on its users/carriers, for scales to be equal. A place… idk man… perhaps like a Void of some sort…. I wish we’d seem something like that before….
