Proud
They used to try to walk her home. Everybody got walked home until 4th grade. Newt always ran through the corridors. She liked to run, and she always knew where she was going. After a while of people who were supposed to walk her home showing up late and puffing, they gave up and let her just get home on her own.
Holding her pass on her necklace up to the lock, she went inside home. Instantly, bright blue eyes were looking for Ripley.

So quiet.
It was so quiet here.
The fan in her room with it’s endless deep whirring had always helped hide the sounds of the monsters that came near, not knowing she was there. She loved that fan, needed that fan to help her pretend that she couldn’t hear the monsters, but her head was so tired of that sound.
Instead of the endless deep whir of her fan, there was only the hum of the heater that she could barely hear. Instead of the sounds of monsters clumping around on metal above and around her, there was mostly quiet.
Sleep had come fast and deep. Heavy as it was it, could not overcome the child’s primitive reaction as the adult came near. Newt kicked out once, sounds of protest coming from her throat as she tried to drag her sleepy thoughts to wakefulness.
“Nnnnnnn. Nnnnnn!
Sabotage
newt-survives » newt :
The room was too big. It was just too big. Her eyes were so tired as she looked up again at the camera that went back and forth. Ripley was there looking somewhere. She’d promised.
But the room was too big. Newt wanted to get up and go back to her own room. It was littler. Safer. She got up out of the bed and looked around the room. It was so dark, everything was blue where the heater wasn’t.
The only place that wasn’t too big was under the bed. She scooted underneath, then reached up and pulled the blanket down the side until she was hidden from the room. It was safe everywhere she could see in the little fort she’d made under the bed. It was cold though, and she got back up to take the heater underneath with her. The heat poured over her as she curled up on the floor. It was nice. She pressed Casey’s hard face against her chest. Everything else changed, but Casey stayed the same. Casey knew what she knew. had seen what she’d seen.
Newt wondered if everyone was going to be dead when she woke up. She was going to miss Ripley. She was so sad thinking about it as she went to sleep.
a gun in ripley’s hand meant a new kind of hope. hicks was absolutely patient and absolutely useful; he was such a good soldier. even she understood, in all her fury, in all her determination knew that she needed some rest if she was going to get out of here. there’s no better time, with gun in hand to check in… and join newt. a little power nap. something refreshing to help keep up with survival, especially since hicks is the only other level-headed and competent person here. no wait — newt is too.
ripley’s heart absolutely stops for a few seconds when she walks in and doesn’t find newt on the bed. it’s outstanding how quickly you can come to care for certain people; she doesn’t panic, it’s just a small fright. she didn’t forget how she found newt. the kid is capable. ripley just sets the gun down and walks around the room slowly before the bed catches her eye again. she gets down on one knee to peer underneath. a small smile of relief. there’s newt,
“ — hey, sweetheart. there you are. ” ripley whispers, crawling under the bed herself. she doesn’t try picking newt up, doesn’t try urging her onto bed; ripley just quietly understands. it does feel safer under here.

All the Way Home
School was good. School was very good. Today they’d got to paint. Newt had painted their house with it’s round dome roof and the two other pods. The wood fence had been tricky, but she’d gotten the curve just right, she thought. Deep blue sky, pale pink clouds. Colorstalks grew in bushes up the walk. In the window, there was her mom smiling and waving out.
Newt didn’t wad her picture up in her bag. She wanted it to stay nice, so she put on her pack and carried her painting in her hand. She burst outside into a bunch of noisy kids and found her transport. All the way home, she looked out the window. They’d lived here a while, but she hadn’t gotten used to how nice it all was, and Newt watched out the window the whole way, just liking it.
They dropped her at her driveway. She watched the windows as she ran up, thinking about showing her mom how good her painting was.

I was watching the a documentary on the making of Alien when I captured this off the screen. At first glance, I thought “Ripley is so damn badass” then the camera zoomed out and I realized that it was between shots. This is Sigourney herself being a badass. This is her listening to the director Ridley Scott.

She stopped pulling. Ripley always listened. Still, sometimes it was hard to talk, but Ripley always waited. Take a deep breath, said the teacher’s voice in her head. Choose some words. And Newt did, looking right at Ripley’s deep brown eyes. When she drew Ripley in school, she always looked for the darkest brown to draw Ripley’s eyes.
“Hicks. Let’s go get Hicks.”
An alarm sound suddenly blatted, and she stepped in close to Ripley, holding on around her middle.
“ATTENTION : EMERGENCY. CHEMICAL SPILL IN THE HANGER. THE HANGER IS NOW IN FULL SPACECRAFT LOCK DOWN. HANGER PERSONNEL WILL STAY AT THEIR STATIONS. REQUIRED EVACUATION IN SECTIONS E AND D. “
The alarm sounded, each angry honk making her heart beat faster.
“Ripley.” Newt swallowed hard. Take a deep breath. Find some words.
“This is like when they came to my house.”

A person ran past the door. She hadn’t seen anyone moving at that speed for a while. Newt felt prickles along the back of her neck. But they kept telling her she was safe here. She watched her friend Ripley, and she seemed fine. Newt made herself take a big breath like they were always telling her in her special class.
“Alright.” she agreed about sandwiches and messes. Newt got down to work, being very not messy. Two or three minutes into her work, she went to wash her hands from the meat, Before her hand actually touched the handle, she felt the heat and slowed down. With a rag that sizzled, she turned the handle and steaming hot water came out. Just like before. Just like before. It felt like things were blowing up in her head. Without even turning the water off, she ran after Ripley’s voice.
Once she got to the woman, she grabbed her arm and started to pull.

Short Hiatus : Broke my Leg
Dear EVERYONE. I miss Tumblr soo much! This all started as a small break for the holidays. It turned out with three bad breaks in my leg from poor ice skating. As of yet, it is still hard to even sit up to type. I’ll be healing well after 2 plates and 8 screws. I will return as soon as possible, I promise. I wish I was writing right now, but I just can’t.
Thanks everyone, please don’t give up on me.

Ripley’s face was really good. Her smile had lots of bright white teeth, and Newt knew she could stay like she wanted.
Ripley kissed her head, and she knew extra that her friend wanted her there. Off they went. Newt followed close.
‘ you KNOW, you can still help me. being seven means nothin’, baby. ’
“I can make samwiches!” She thought up, Newt liked doing that.
‘ are you HUNGRY? ’
“I could make one more and have it.” That seemed like a good idea. “I'll make a big one for you.” Newt stuck two fingers through Ripley’s belt loop, then let her go.
