what compells you in queer love and media?

(this may look like bait or something, i promise its not, just continuation of the conversation to compare your notes to mine, iykwim <3)

i think at first, the thing that drew me to queer love/queer media was that as a kid, i was literally always thinking about and being very intentional about going against the grain and defying gender roles and all that jazz. so as soon as i started seeing it crop up in tv more and more, i was just so enthralled with the type of love that, to me, seemed so authentic because the characters were not coming together because it was easy or expected - they were doing it despite risk and societal pressures etc. and that thrilled something in me - especially when i was coming of age and it was a lot rarer for queer love to be at the center (or even on the side) of a show

i’m still drawn to that aspect even if it’s maybe less relevant now, but i’m also really drawn to stories that play with masculinity and femininity and androgyny in interesting queer ways and i’m drawn to the sexualization of hypermasculinity… also queer couples always seem to be better written to me, or maybe that’s just my gay goggles

the worst part about the buck and tommy break up?

in the context of the show: buck thinking he wasn’t wanted anymore. watching them not have an articulate conversation. hearing tommy say buck.

in the context of being a viewer: the uncertainty surrounding lou’s status on the show

my favorite thing about bucktommy is that buck is my favorite character in media in a LONG time, and as someone who loves queer love and queer film & television, tommy as buck’s romantic partner has been astoundingly fulfilling. like, i just want buck to be happy and cherish and cared for, i think he works extremely well with an older s.o., and tommy has just consistently hit the mark. even through their breakup there has been this undercurrent of wanting the best for buck. they’re just very visually striking and compelling as a fictional duo.
