The botanic gardens have stood for 290 years, a bastion of plant life and diversity. Over the years the encroaching city has reduced the sprawl of the city park, but the botanic gardens have held firm. UV lighting and enviro-regulators have kept the plants thriving as smog and acidic rain threatened the gardens. After the arson attempt on the Conservatory last year, sections of the gardens have been closed off for repairs. However, in the weeks following Pan’s death, more and more of the gardens have been closed.

Recent footage allegedly of the closed sections of the botanic gardens has been broadcast by Rhatz!. The video shows plants of the botanic gardens affected by disease, some completely withering away while others show black, patchy discolourations on their foliage.

This revelation was followed by a market crash for Xornu-copia, the country’s largest argitech firm. Their exclusive GMO crop GoldenResist-Wheat has widely been hailed as a wonder crop, sturdy, disease and pest resistant, and naturally fortified with a wide range of vitamins and amino acids which make it a complete meal.  A leaked scientific report reveals a new fungal disease is striking GoldenResist-Wheat, rapidly spreading through the mono-clonal crops. Finding mutants of GoldenResist-Wheat that resist the fungus has so far been in vain. The report crashed Xornu-copia’s market value, and lead to a reactionary price surge on food.

Part II. The Gods’ Council

The ongoing chaos has driven Hephaestus to suggest a council of deities, to gather and plan for the ongoing fallout of Pan’s death, and to prepare in case another tragedy should strike. The deity Vesta has stepped in to head the council, as a neutral leader. Any motions passed by the council will have to sway the majority of attending deities, and her.

These revelations are not unexpected with the passing of Pan, the question is how far the ramifications of his death will spread. Life would not be the same without those that bring them all to life, or so Vesta believes. That is why time and time again Vesta has descended and keenly started shrines to aid mortals towards a better life. This particular descension her passion project has been Ardor. Combination of a high-end bakery that sells luxurious and complex baked goods with an easy-access delivery service. Which pays for the shelter come food-bank. The fast-paced life that mortals have yearned for and found themselves entangled in has only served to exacerbate centuries old issues. Vesta knows she cannot solve it – such interference from a god never ends well. Instead Ardor is somewhere for people, of any background, to come and feel safe. For as long as it stands and Vesta is alive on this plane she will be their guardian.

It goes without saying that she doesn’t see eye-to-eye with many of her fellow gods. There’re more than a few fellow immortals who have ingrained themselves in everyday life in such a manner that Vesta does not agree with. Which is why when talk of a governing body for the gods started Vesta was quick to put her foot down. Too many gods have their own best-interests at heart above all else. Though she agrees that a council would unite them together, it should not be headed up by someone who’s interests are solely themself. Vesta proposed a vote for two elected representatives, regardless of pantheon, age or status. Though she has reluctantly conceded and agreed that the council should be limited to those of god, goddess or goddex status only.

Vesta's passions usually centre around Ardor (her bakery come shelter/food bank), for those that can lend a hand at Ardor will always be held highly in her eyes. Otherwise she abstains from the usual vices that plague the other gods – you will not see her sipping on gigglewater in any of the speaks. She prefers mortal establishments, cafes and restaurants etc, supporting locals whenever she can. Her haughty attitude towards charity has put her at odds with her fellow immortals on more than one occasion, but Vesta is not confrontational. She's prideful, but calm and tries to use reason and a swift exit if the conversation starts to turn heated.

Good evening New Orleans! This is “Mercury” for Rhatz! News, news, news, well, the sun is setting, the moon is rising and hasn’t it been an eventful few days?

Yesterday marked the funeral for beloved musician Peter Allaway. He was well-loved in his community and known for his eccentric but popular tunes. In fact, one of his more popular songs, Sun’s Warmth, has rocketed to the top of the charts once more! The funerary procession headed through the city with music and love. We managed to chat to one of Peter’s old band-mates, here’s what they said...

“Peter was a good guy. Yeah he’d drive you crazy, but he was honest, truthful. The world’s not going to be the same without him.”

In other news, we reported earlier in the week that the police were called to a party over an alleged assault. We now have it officially that an officer was already present at the scene, and that the situation was merely a disagreement, no charges will be pressed. Little spats often appear so much worse when people have swapped out their arms for biomech! Aren’t we lucky to live in such a safe city!

Our other headlines tonight include scandal in the financial world! There’s rumours of insider trading, causing stock market prices in agritech firm Xorn-u-copia to drop earlier this week. But, after an internal investigation, no fault has been found and the stock market prices have now recovered. You know what they say, always buy when the price is low! Our business correspondent will have a full update on that later tonight at ten.
