My name is Angela and I am currently undertaking a concurrent degree of Political Science and Education at the University of Calgary. My specialization in the social sciences stems from a passion for social justice and activism around the world.
My hobbies include art, particularly of character illustration, baking, music, and sports such as racquet ball, field hockey, and badminton!

Why Teach?
The passions I hold for art, political science, and education are rooted in social and cultural diversity, as well as justice. My approach to education comes from a place of understanding and I strive to communicate this through respect, support, and encouragement. I believe that connecting in this way allows students to be confident as learners and inspires them to take ownership of their learning. To build trust and communication, I strive to establish a learning environment that provides opportunities for growth and open-mindedness.

Plan for Self Care

Everyone needs time to themselves to decompress, especially after spending the day in hyper-charged social environments like classrooms! It’s important that, as an upcoming teacher, I am aware of my limits and I take care of my mind and body to avoid causing burnout.
My personal understanding of self-care is just being able to spend time doing the things that I love with the people that I love. This includes cooking and enjoying a hearty meal with friends, or simply walking around the city and partaking in what the world around me has to offer. I really enjoy mundane things because I find that it helps me find peace, especially during times when it may feel chaotic and overwhelming.

As I continue this journey, I want to grow more awareness around my own mental health and how to take care of myself. My go to activity to decompress is to spend time with both family and friends. Additionally, I find that walking for physical and mental well-being helps me stay grounded and helps me rid my mind of stressful factors of life, and it aids me in viewing the world more positively. This practice allows me to build patience and understanding while keeping in mind the physical state of my body.
