watched the video britta curl posted on Instagram, and while I have many thoughts on it, I was completely distracted by seeing this in the comments:
Tumblr media
why is this comment hidden Instagram. a comment by a trans woman telling britta shes open to having a conversation with her while also saying she believes in curl and wont judge her.
and then u see all the other comments not hidden by Instagram saying how curl didnt need to apologize and that shes entitled to her opinions. some even outright decrying the "woke left" and "men in women's sports".
but ykno. This is the comment that needed to be hidden

lowkey the funniest apologies are the ones that are like "i know you saw me doing this shit, but actually, i didnt do any of that shit. sharing the website Trans People Aren't Real And Are All Demons dot Gov is not indicative of my stance on trans people." like do you think we're fucking stupid.

there’s something so admirable and poetic about girls on here who are obsessed with hockey men. like you took the sport with the least face visibility and most indiscriminate injuries by sharp hard objects and you thought this too is poetry. even blonde men with weird beards and no teeth can feel love

my opinions on britta curl's statement / non-apology:
she seems to imply with her statement that the posts that she liked and the accounts she followed are not indicative of who she really is, and that she is friends with people from the communities harmed (ie. people of color and queer people). as though being quiet in the locker room and around people you deem your friends is actually a sign of respect. she says that she "does not and has never held hate or judgement for any groups or individuals". but i'm not stupid, none of us are stupid.
she is seemingly implying that what we, collectively, saw on her twitter accounts is not indicative of who she really is. it's ridiculous and aggravating. why would you follow qanon twitter accounts and like their posts if you do not believe in them?
and then in the second video she sets the blame on us, the viewer, for not forgiving her. because she did what to apologize? tried to appeal to us, said "i have friends who are queer or people of color and i have nothing but respect for them"? that's not an apology, ms. curl, no matter how much you say that you want to apologize and take accountability for causing people to feel bad. it feels entirely like she is apologizing for our feelings rather than for her activities.
so no, i don't feel particularly like extending britta curl any grace. i do not feel comfortable supporting her in this league as though she hasn't shown us her true face, and i hurt for the transfeminine fans and fans of color who believed the pwhl to be different.

i guess my question is. if there were—hypothetically, you understand—a hockey player who really loved history and podcasts about history, and he listened to a podcast about a historical hockey figure who was described as good and kind and modest but also wrote letters to another man signed “devotedly” before he died tragically in WWI. would this cause any self reflection in that—again, very fictional—hockey player. would there perhaps be an existential crisis about his one wild and precious life. hypothetically.
my question is who is willing to hurt my feelings by writing this fic.
