          “perhaps it is not my place to do so… but you have my condolences regardless.”    myla does not know how deeply the force runs in her, but if she felt even a fraction of the devastation that shook the very core of the galaxy during the great jedi purge… truly, there must be such strength in her heart to withstand the burden alone.    “i wish that your story was not such a common one.”    even neutral systems abstaining from the cursed war had been left scarred by battle, & without mothers, fathers… sisters.    words, apologies, are only wastes of breath.    they cannot heal, they cannot fix the destruction left behind by a battle that she had participated in.    but if she can ease just one’s grief, then her efforts will not be in vain.    “i believe you could serve as a great𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏 to others who have also suffered the fallout of war.”

𝐒𝐇𝐄   𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒   𝐍𝐎𝐓   𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋   𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐃   by   her   words,   they   do   not   sooth   her   pain.   nothing   would   return   her   family   to   her,   merrin   knew   this,   but   she   had   hoped   that   in   time   the   pain   would   lessen.   she   closes   her   eyes   for   a   moment,   focusing   on   the   familiar   energy   that   permeated   dathomir.   it   was   something   familiar,   something   she   could   focus   on   &   slowly   find   some   stability   within   her.   

❝   it   is   a   kind   gesture.   ❞   her   eyes   opened,   ruby   gaze   settling   on   her   companion.   it   was   true,   the   war   had   taken   so   much.   ❝   and   you   are   not   wrong.   if   this   war   has   taught   me   anything   it   is   that   we   risk   losing   so   much   more   when   we   are   divided.   it   is   up   to   us   as   survivors   to   ensure   that   we   help   each   other   heal.   ❞            

it   was   why   she   had   returned   to   her   home   planet,   to   return   her   sisters   to   rest   &   attempt   to   connect   with   the   nightbrothers.   she   had   only   succeeded   in   the   former.   she   could   not   fault   the   nightbrothers   for   wanting   little   to   do   with   her.   they   had   lived   in   subjugation   for   so   long   &   she   had   little   more   than   her   word   that   she   had   no   desire   to   return   them   to   that   life.

merrin   is   of   course   guarded   when   it   comes   to   force   users.   she   has   seen   the   devastation   they   can   bring,   but   she   is   also   incredibly   curious   about   them.   due   to   being   stuck   on   dathomir   without   much   contact   with   others   she   has   not   had   the   same   type   of   exposure   to   the   force   &   force   users   as   others   might   have   had   before   the   jedi   were   hunted   down.   

if   she   ever   gets   to   meet   another   force   user   she   will   want   to   ask   questions,   she   will   want   to   learn.   merrin   is   in   a   lot   of   ways   different   from   a   traditional   nightsister.   she   grew   up   alone,   without   guidance   or   the   same   cultural   upbringing   as   her   sisters   had.   

would   she   ever   want   to   learn   how   to   use   the   force   as   others   do?   absolutely.   she   has   her   reservations,   mostly   around   the   trauma   of   how   her   people   were   killed,   but   in   time   she   would   want   to   learn.   she   knows   she   is   already   at   risk,   not   so   much   as   a   jedi   is,   but   she   is   a   non   sith   /   inquisitor   force   user.   

so   if   she   got   a   chance   to   learn   she   would   jump   on   it.   i   highly   doubt   she   would   ever   buy   into   the   traditional   jedi   values   as   she   already   accesses   the   dark   side   through   her   ‘magic’.

𝐎𝐍 𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐍 & 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐒

i   wanted   to   touch   on   merrin’s   relationship   with   the   nightbrothers   of   dathomir   &   how   it   contrasts   how   the   relationships   between   nightsister/mother’s   &   nightbrothers   would   typically   work.   

in   my   cannon   merrin   very   much   grew   up   alone.   after   the   slaughter   on   dathomir   a   divide   between   merrin   &   the   remaining   nightbrothers   was   created.   i   suspect   that   this   was   frankly   a   long   time   coming   &   most   likely   started   during   the   attack.   it’s   not   secret   that   the   nightbrothers   are   not   happy   with   being   treated   as   essentially   slaves.   they   were   seen   as   inferior,   simply   kept   there   by   the   nightsisters   to   be   used   as   needed   &   for   siring   children.   it’s   shitty   &   horrible   &   if   there   is   one   thing   i   am   glad   about   that   came   from   the   attack   is   that   merrin   did   not   grow   up   with   that   mentality.   

i   am   aware   that   in   gameplay   merrin   summons   several   nightbrothers   but   frankly   speaking   i   do   not   believe   she   has   close   ties   to   them.   there   may   be   perhaps   a   handful   who   do   not   hold   ill   will   towards   her   /   that   she   has   gained   their   trust   etc   but   i   do   not   believe   that   she   is   able   to   easily   command   them.   nor   does   she   want   to.   as   i’ve   said   before,   despite   her   origins   merrin   is   a   good   person   at   heart.   she   would   not   want   to   use   her   abilities   to   enslave   the   remaining   nightbrothers.   which   is   why   when   they   choose   to   listen   to   malicos   over   her   she   does   not   fight   them   on   it.   she   has   by   this   point   accepted   that   her   life   is   going   to   be   one   of   isolation.   

would   she   manipulate   dead   nightbrothers   as   she   did   her   sisters?   yes.   she   feels   extremely   guilty   for   it   was   very   much   a   last   line   of   defense   for   dathomir   in   her   eyes.   

i   personally   headcanon   that   the   nightbrothers   she   is   able   to   summon   are   either   dead   ones   or   perhaps   a   rare   handful   that   are   allies   with   her.   the   other   nightbrothers   encountered   on   the   planet   are   simply   hostile   to   outsiders   &   are   defending   what   is   left   of   their   home.   which   makes   sense   to   me   given   all   that   was   lost.   these   nightbrothers   are   not   allied   with   merrin   at   all.   some   may   be   aligned   with   malicos,   others   may   simply   be   trying   to   defend   their   home.

small   hc   :   but   i   cannot   stress   enough   that   despite   merrin   being   in   tune   with   the   dark   side   as   most   of   the   nightsister’s   magic   is   drawn   from   it   she   never   has   or   will   be   fully   dark   sided.   as   guarded   as   she   was   when   we   first   meet   her   in   the   game,   as   the   game   progresses   we   get   to   see   that   she   cares   about   others   a   lot.   even   going   so   far   as   to   say   that   perhaps   they   shouldn’t   use   the   holocron   as   to   not   further   endanger   force   sensitive   children   because   she   knows   what   they’ll   face.   she   knows   there   will   be   pain   &   loss   for   them   &   she   doesn’t   want   that.   

i   think   it   is   very   interesting   to   see   someone   who   is   not   a   jedi   /   uses   the   force   in   a   different   way   that   still   very   much   is   a   good   person   &   is   ready   to   fight   for   others.   i   think   it’s   so   important   that   we   have   this   as   a   lot   of   what   we   see   at   least   in   the   movies   is   dark   side   vs   light   &   very   rarely   do   we   get   to   see   those   that   fall   in   between   those   two   extremes.
