cons of using an old blog: unfollowing a bunch of people who are going to see the new character roster and go "what the fuck" and then having to retype up pages

me sobbing over the realization in my AU since Hvitur faked his death and didn't head back to the Talons that Asha died and he couldn't be the medic he was supposed to be.

me staring at the fact in the 7 years after he faked his death the talons don't know he's alive, and he doesn't know asha died.

so he spends years looking for her and it isn't until he finds out about JMA and rejoins Riptide in the Talons of Peace that he finds out what happened to Asha and he cries for probably the first time since he survived the encounter with Burn.

i feel like I have a lot of writing I must do.

I just felt in a mood to practice drawing these stunning guys, including throwing a few facial expression practices in the mix, so that's how we ended up with these doodles. might I add that in the books it was known that Arctic and Foeslayer were both still, yknow

neither of them were adults and it was foeslayer's own fucking MOTHER that was trying to push for dragonets on TWO FUCKING KIDS WHO RAN AWAY TOGETHER LITERALLY NOT EVEN A WEEK PRIOR.

They saw Arctic as nothing but a tool for them and pretty much made his life hell on a completely other spectrum and people are saying he's THAT to Foeslayer?

When the FIRST finger we should be pointing at is Foeslayer's own mother?!

Sure, Arctic's an abuser but guess what, he was abused and pushed and pushed and not even seen as a dragon that was worthy of being looked at normal. Doesn't mean what he did was alright but, you have to understand.

He was a tool to these Nightwings. He was a tool to Foeslayer's Mother, he was a tool to Queen Vigilance. He was a tool to Queen Diamond. He was an Icewing Prince and an animus, his fate had been decided from the moment he hatched and he wanted to escape. Just to realize that, now instead of one abusive old hag wanting his animus, 3 abusive old hags wanted his animus.

It's not okay that Arctic turned out the way he did, and did the things he did. But abusers upbring more abusers through abuse. He grew tired and bitter not even just from his animus magic, but through the attitude he was shown the entire time he was alive.

He was in that Nightwing Kingdom for 17 years. Probably never gaining any Nightwing friends, because the queen only wanted him for a Nightwing Animus, Foeslayer's Mother only wanted him for a nightwing animus.

he's an abused dragon who turned into an abuser, he's such a tragic character but nooo he's an icewing who isn't Queen Glacier, or Lynx, or Queen Snowfall, or Snowfox and Snowflake.

And from what we've learned from Winter from people calling HIM an abuser and toxic from ACCIDENTALLY KNOCKING OVER A VASE, Y'all just hate male icewings.

edit: do I also have to point at the people who keep saying arctic hated foeslayer from the beginning when he literally threw his literal soul away for her on numerous occasions, literally let himself rot because he loved her so much.

and also, sure, he could've killed his dragonets and gone back to Diamond but here's the thing.

Diamond would've probably either exiled him or killed him the moment he returned, better yet could've forced HIM to be the first Diamond Trial victim.

He was a tool until the very end.

Anyone would become bitter but here's the thing, Arctic at least TRIED, even though he was losing himself he still TRIED even as he became an asshole and abusive and bitter.

he still tried to make things right, in his own, admittedly fucked up ways.

Arctic is a spicy hot piece of shit but saying he is a rapist or that he “was an adult grooming a teenage/younger Foeslayer” is so fucking wrong. Yes, I have seen people say that last one on fucking Twitter and TikTok but what do I expect from those hellsites. It reminds me of how people used to insist that Bramblestar raped Squirrelflight which resulted in Alderheart and Sparkpelt. I just don’t get it and I fucking hate it as someone who went through sexual abuse.

Claws tap rhythmically on the wooden table as Halvor purrs gently, Lucas sets down both cups of their chamomile tea, before setting himself down on the other chair at their table. Of course, Halvor was free for the first time to fly around, his arm fully healed, and alongside Lucas and the others, so was his mind. But this was his second chance at life, and there was a lot on his mind, how his body fluttered, but not in that anxious way. It felt as if his body was lighter than usual. Halvor's wings twitched in anticipation. Lucas' did as well. Were they feeling the exact same than he was?

It was just like a few days ago. Lucas and him hung out while drinking their tea, and Lucas had always asked the same questions--questions that Halvor never got tired of answering. So when the two arrived outside with their mugs, Halvor was anticipating the questions. But, he wasn't expecting Lucas to put away a small device into his satchel, before setting down his cup of tea into the cup holder that Andor had decided to attach to Halvor's bench, to make their mornings much more pleasant without having to place the ceramic on the uneven ground.

"Lucas, do you feel it too?"

Halvor quipped, looking at both of his tingling arms, his quivering wings, but none of it was out of anxiety, there was this digging feeling to take flight, high into the skies, and even though there was a vibration of Lucas' device coming from his satchel, the Magic Crafter set down his tea, and looked eye to eye to Halvor, who was looking back and forth on his wings. It's like there was something primal deep down waiting to awaken before their very eyes.

[ " I--I do. The quivering in my wings, like there's a surge within my heart--trying to break free. I will have to think on it. " ]

Lucas pondered, placing a claw or two on his chin, tapping against the rough scales and small patches of scar tissue from an accident from ages ago. So long that it was mostly just a tiny indent. Of course, that didn't matter as he watched Halvor take a drink from their mug. Their talks, as quiet and few in-between, it was nice. Today, well, Today was different. Halvor suddenly got up and started to stretch out his body, and Lucas set down his tea, grabbed his satchel and stared at Halvor. Were they really doing this?

" I feel.. constricted, still. My body and mind both want me to be, free. And, I think I'm going to let it happen, Lucas."

Halvor, after he was done stretching, got into position, and closed his eyes, waiting for all tension to leave his body before letting out a sigh, Lucas stared at Halvor and watched. There was no way this is what he thought it was--not just for him, but for Halvor, too. Sure, Ragnar had apparently awoken to an affinity while he was dueling, but, him and Halvor? This close apart from the last awakening? Surely not, right?

Halvor's body felt lighter than ever, and Lucas could see the light green and whites surrounding his partner, and he'd suddenly go and snap a photo, before setting it all down and joining his partner in this whole situation, he'd parallel himself to Halvor, curling in his tail and closing his eyes.

Letting the tension leave his body as the wind, as small as it was, suddenly carry the two of them upwards into the crystal clear skies, light green surrounding the two of them gracefully as both of their eyes, opened, they were flying, not with their wings, but, with.. the wind. The wind was carrying them through the air, getting higher and higher until the two of them were above the clouds.

And the only thing the two of them could do was kiss one another, embracing as the breeze holds them gently, Lucas felt like he was walking on air, walking on the very clouds they only could dream on laying on top of as hatchlings. And yet, here they were, doing that very thing.

Halvor and Lucas both tumbled down onto the cloud, the breeze gently keeping them in place, as if it was their minds that were doing so, dare they say it was the best day of their lives was an understatement. Dreams were coming true left and right, and they simply couldn't explain it all, Lucas pulled away from the kiss to type something into his device, and immediately put it away.

The two of them, were laying their, being kept up by the wind alone, cuddling on a literal cloud, they had felt so.. free. Halvor's body felt lighter than it had in the past year since his mental decline, but, now? Now he felt.. reborn, renewed. Into a quite literal second wind. Of course, not even a few minutes later, Andor is yelling out for them and flying upwards, shock covering his features.

" You're not even flying! Mother Serpent the two of you really did.. "

Halvor chuckled and looked at Andor with a wave, At least they now had a surefire way to get away from everyone, just cuddling amongst the stars. The world was now their oyster, and the couple definitely knew what they were going to do. If this was their awakening, they could channel it right?

Halvor let the wind take him upwards, and alongside Lucas, they'd serpentine-spiral around one another a couple hundred meters upwards, until Lucas spread out his wings, and Halvor did as well, Andor, seeing an opportunity, snatches one more photo, the two of them are far higher in the skies than any dragon could ever be, they were far above the clouds--where the balloonists usually are.

Andor makes sure the image is clear, before simply staring in amazement. He couldn't believe what he was seeing-- and he definitely couldn't have imagined that the two of them would redirect the wind in another direction, seeing the two of them fly off at speeds he would never have deemed possible, the wind gently holding them in place as the spiraled around each other before a few seconds later stopping, and sharing another kiss, before letting the wind guide them back home.

It was only for twenty or so minutes, but they had never felt more free than ever than they were right now. Andor simply watches the two of them share a very long kiss and dance through the skies until they're gently placed back down on the lawn of Halvor's home. Andor--being smart--took a video this time. Others need to see this.

They need to believe him. Though, everyone does..

And then.. Lucas looks to Halvor, and asks the same question as usual.

[ " How are you feeling, Halvor?" ]

" Free. "

and.. they'd share one more kiss.
