In 1920th Soviet scientists, like many others, discussed an idea of sex change via surgery. The experiments they planned were practical - can we make roosters lay eggs? Wouldn't it be great for economy? They published articles on the topic in regular newspapers, and suddenly readers started writing letters to biologists begging them to be part of those experiments.

"I'm not a man and not a woman, please, help", "Physically I'm a woman but all my passion is towards women, I hate being woman, I better die, please, help", "my life is a torture, and you are my only hope". These letters are still in the archives of the Russian academy of science.

Seriously, everything is cool (I mean, music, visuals), Domhnall Gleeson is awesome, but the plot is awfull.

They could use some humor (imagine characters struggling on every stage running, sweating, fighting, only to find Carver clean and bright simply buying his way through everything).

It could be a drama, if he was really suffering but still an asshole.

It could have some romance or friendship, found family.

It coud have more fantasy elements (why couldn't the antagonist become a soulless monster and chase the heroes in some epic countdown?)

But no.
