Der erste Monat ist rum!

So viel ist passiert und ich war so beschäftigt, dass ich leider kaum Zeit hatte darüber zu schreiben. Ich hab so viel nette und coole Leute kennengelernt und sehr schöne Orte gesehen.

Die erste Woche musste ich mich Erstmal zurecht finden und noch die ganzen Sachen besorgen, die man so braucht. Am Donnerstag war der Einführungstag an der Uni und danach eine Willkommensparty für alle Austauschstudenten. Insgesamt sind wir eine recht kleine Gruppe, vielleicht 100 Leute. Am Anfang war ich ganz alleine in dem 3-Zimmer-Appartment, welches nicht das schönste ist aber für ein halbes Jahr wird’s reichen. Es ist ziemlich kalt in den Zimmern und das heizen ist recht teuer, da alles über Strom läuft. Hier gibt es Prepaid-Strom, also man muss erst Geld aufladen um Strom zu haben. Sonntag waren wir in Tramore, einer kleinen Küstenstadt direkt neben Waterford. Dort sind wir erst zu den Klippen gewandert und dann anschließend sind wir an der Promenade zum Strand gegangen. Tramore ist eine sehr schönes Örtchen und wenn das Wetter besser ist, wollen wir mit einigen Leuten dort picknicken

In der zweiten Woche habe ich endlich eine Mitbewohnerin bekommen. Sie ist aus Finnland und sehr nett. Die Uni hat begonnen und ich hatte ein paar Schwierigkeiten die richtigen Räume zu finden, da die Gebäude sehr verwinkelt sind. Die Kurse hier sind relativ einfach aber trotzdem ganz interessant. Ich höre Security Principles, Maths Advanced Calculus, Irish Culture und einen Englischkurs. Dienstag habe ich für ein paar Freunde Geschnetzeltes gemacht. Die Küchen hier sind wirklich nicht sehr gut ausgestattet, also war es ein Erlebnis für so viele Leute zu kochen. Von Mittwoch bis Freitag kam mich Annika besuchen, als Teil ihrer Irland-Rundreise. Mittwoch ist der Tag an dem alle abends weggehen, deswegen startete unser Donnerstag ein wenig später. Wir sind in die Stadt gelaufen und haben uns die Museen angeschaut. Am Wochenende sind wir nach Cork gefahren. Samstags haben wir uns die Stadt angeschaut und abends waren wir in einem Pub mit Live-Musik. Am Sonntag wollten wir eigentlich zu ein paar Klippen in der Nähe von Cork fahren, jedoch hatte Josis Auto Probleme weswegen wir zurück nach Waterford gefahren sind.

Die dritte Woche war ein bisschen ruhiger. Die Kurse wurden etwas interessanter und die Räume einfacher auffindbar. Mittwoch hatten wir eine Shot-Night, d.h. Jeder bringt etwas mit, was man als Shot trinken kann. Der Abend (das an was ich mich erinnern kann) war echt lustig, aber der nächste Tag war grausam. Ich hatte um 9.15 Uhr Uni und mir war so übel. Nach den Vorlesungen bin ich direkt wieder ins Bett und habe geschlafen. Samstag sind Damla, Josi und ich nach J´Kilkenny gefahren. Wir haben  erst in einem süßen Café gefrühstückt und haben dann die Burg besichtigt. Die Burg ist sehr gut erhalten und auch der Schlosspark ist sehr hübsch. Am Nachmittag sind wir durch die Innenstadt gegangen. Wir haben einen der ältesten Pubs in Irland gesehen: „Hole in the Wall“, welcher wirklich nur ein Loch in der Wand ist. Bis jetzt ist Kilkenny der schönste Ort für mich . Am Sonntag hatten wir ein „Familienessen“ und ich habe Lasagne für die ganze Truppe gemacht.

Die vierte Woche war unspektakulär. In Security Principles haben wir angefangen mit OpenSSL zu arbeiten und haben andere Chiffren gelernt, die ohne Computer genutzt werden können. Bis jetzt ist Security Principles wirklich das interessanteste Fach. Mittwoch Abend waren wir bei Brian vortrinken. Am freitag ging es mir nicht so gut und ich konnte die Nacht nicht schlafen, weshalb ich am Samstag nicht mit zu den Comeragh Mountains bin. Abends waren wir bei einer Hausparty bei Damla. Es waren so viele Menschen da, aber es war sehr witzig. Am Sonntag habe ich dann ausgeschlafen und ein bisschen was für die Uni gemacht.

Ich werde probieren so oft wie möglich was zu schreiben, aber erwartet keine täglichen Einträge ;)

The first month is up!

SO much happened and I was so busy that I didn’t have any time to write about it. I’ve got to know so many nice and lovely people and saw some great places, too.

The first week I just tried to get comfortable and get all the stuff I needed. On Thursday there was an introduction day at college and afterwards a Welcome-Party at the college pub. It was really nice. We are a pretty small group of exchange students maybe 100 people. In my first week I lived alone in the three bedroom apartment. The place isn’t the best but for half a year it’s ok. The electricity is really expensive and it’s very cold though. On Sunday we went to Tramore it’s a small town by the ocean. We walked to the cliffs there and then went to the beach promenade. It is a beautiful town and we’re planning on going there again in the spring with some people to have a big picnic.

The second week was much better I got a really nice flatmate and the courses started. Even now it is kind of difficult to find the rooms for all my classes but the first few days were the worst. I had to ask so many people and most of the time I would end up being late. The courses here are fairly simple but are interesting none the less. I’m taking Security Prin ciples, Maths Advanced Calculus, Irish Culture and an English course. On Tuesday I made Geschnetzeltes for some friends, a typical German dish. It is really an experience to cook for a bigger group of people in the kitchens here because the kitchenware really leaves room for improvement.  From Wednesday to Friday morning a friend from Germany came to visit me. We went to the Waterford city centre and visited the museums in Waterford. Wednesday is the night where everyone is going out and we were no exception to this. So our Thursday morning started a little late. The weekend we went to Cork. On Saturday we went to explore the city and in the evening we went out to a pub with live music. It was really nice. The next day, Sunday, we wanted to go to some cliffs nearby but Josi’s car had some trouble so we both went back to Waterford. Sadly the others who wanted to take the bus couldn’t go either, because the bus didn’t show up.

The third week was quiet more or less. The classes got a little more interesting and it got a little easier to find the right rooms. On Wednesday we had a Shot-Night so everyone brought something you can drink as a shot. The part I can remember was really funny but the next day was horrible. I had classes at nine o’clock and my main focus was to not throw up. I think I was still drunk. After my classes I went straight back to bed. I think we were all feeling rather unwell. On Saturday Damla, Josi and me went to Kilkenny. We had breakfast at a really nice café and then went to see the castle. It is so pretty and the grounds are also very nice. After seeing the castle we walked through the city centre. They have lovely shops and a really nice, but very small pub “Hole in the Wall” one of the oldest pubs in Ireland. Afterwards we went to a shopping centre to go to H&M. So far I think Kilkenny is my favourite place in Ireland, it is such a pretty city. On Sunday we had “family dinner” I made lasagna for the squad. It was a lovely evening.

The fourth week was uneventful. We started working with OpenSSL in Security Principles, which I find quite interesting and learned other ciphers to hide your message without a computer. On Wednesday evening we went to Brian’s and had some predrinks there, but I didn’t go out after. On Friday I was feeling sick and this night I didn’t sleep. So I decided not to join the others on Saturday to the Comeragh Mountains. In the evening we went to Damla's house, where she hosted a party. It was a great night and I quiet enjoyed myself! Sunday we were all curing our hangover and I did some stuff for college.

I'll try to wright as often in this blog as possible, but don't expect a daily entry ;)
