Footnote to Youth
https://koyaaaa.tumblr.com/post/646330327190618112/footnote-to-youth-a-readers-response-approach
Based on Martin’s readers response approach, it is accurate that the story Footnote to Youth is indeed about poverty and how they overcome the circumstances that Dodong’s family experienced for a long time. Martin also said that not being able to have enough education can lead to extreme hardships like getting married at such a young age.

Footnote to Youth
Feminist Criticism
This interpretation used the perspectives of feminist criticism in consideration of the cultural and social roles of women in literature as expressed in a male-authored text. Feministic criticism judges the literary work on the representation of the women’s condition and criticizes the restrictive role of the women. In this interpretation, the roles of the women are deeply analyzed if there are undervalued gender issues and biases based on the outlook of the male author as in this case, Jose Garcia Villa.

Formalist Criticism
The form of the short story Footnote to Youth is scrutinized particularly in the style and manner in writing, the theme, the point of view and the meaning of the symbols in contribution to the overall impression to the story. The distinct “literariness” in this text is determined by his usage of theme, and style in order to relay the story in an easily comprehensible way. Villa’s style in writing Footnote to Youth could be attributed and compared to the works of Anton Chekov, a legendary Russian fictionist.

Footnote to Youth
Reader-Response Criticism
The interpretation is based on the researcher’s perception of teenage marriage which is the central issue in this story. Footnote to Youth accentuates the nature of teenage marriage to impress upon the youth its entailing difficulties. The title itself bears a stern reminder about the pitfalls of an unrequited and unplanned love to the youth who most oftentimes fall prey to the disillusion of love. The story is very rich and vivid in its direct portrayal about a family life laden with hardships and melancholy as a result of early marriage. It is a warning, it is a caution to the youth of today whose rising number of pregnancy is alarmingly increasing. This story gives the reader an overview of a married life built on flimsy dreams and youthful love.

Marxist Criticism
The story is about Dodong who has a plain and simple life. Dodong’s Father was a farmer and being a farmer is not just hard but it is their family’s only source of income. They eat fried fresh-water fish, rice, bananas, and caked sugar for dinner. Having the approach of Marxist Criticism is because even if they are poor, they still work everyday to feed their families.

Critique about “The Song of Despair” by Pablo Neruda.
Somewhere in 1935, a guy named Pablo Neruda wrote a poem called, “Walking Around” which addresses the conflict of a man versus the society. Here, he discusses about how humans have lost their individuality because all that people people want to have is what other people have.
The ever-recurring conflicts present throughout this piece was man vs. self and man vs. society/government. The speaker feels suppressed by the control his government reigns over him and fears he will not be able to rise up from his unrecognized redundant job. He battles with himself on whether or not he can overcome such a great obstacles, especially when he sees his own characteristics in the men around him, which he hates. Neruda represents the agony of the world’s existence, the upgrades that will lead to its downfall.

Christopher Robin now a family man living in London receives a surprise visit from his old childhood pal, Winnie-the-Pooh. “Okay lang, my Christmas Vacation is okay lang.”
My Christmas Vacation is okay lang because even though it wasn’t as fun and jolly as before, we still enjoyed it. I had a vacation in my Aunt’s house and went back home on Christmas day. My family and I enjoyed it even though we’re just at home. We are complete and that’s what’s important.

“Is it necessary for a student to utilize the use of academic text when internet connection is ready to use?”
Yes, it is necessary. As a fact, academic texts are more reliable because it has strong accuracy and a solid basis. Even though there’s an internet connection, most of the time students tend to just look on the internet but who knows if that content is a fact? People can just post and publish on the internet without knowing that it is accurate. That’s why it’s much better to just look at the academic text for your certain subject and then do your research afterwards.
