i bet you after lightning mcqueen’s crash, he spent a lot of time trying to make just one whole lap around willy’s butte. in cars, the scene where lightning watches doc make a lap, he never understood why doc just sat at the starting line, engine off, staring, not driving. but.. he got it after his own crash. lightning would sit there behind the little rope line, appreciating the quiet. the track seemed to go on forever, and for the first time in his life, mcqueen wasn’t 100% sure he could make the lap. didn’t have conviction in his skills. didn’t think he could do it. and when he did finally get the gumption up to go around the track, he felt empty - there wasn’t any joy in it, no satisfaction. if anything, it was terrifying. i bet you he struggled with panic attacks, nightmares, anxiety - when he dreamed about the crash, he sometimes woke up and wondered if he was dreaming of his crash, or doc’s. god, talk to me ab this. talk to me about the shit lightning had to work through for those four months to overcome the crash and get back into training
