cp 57 sneak peak!!
text below cut:
‘The last time our clans faced Him, we failed because we weren’t united.  I was a fledgling then.  I was there.  I know.  But there is strength in togetherness!  You can testify to this yourselves.  Are you not one clan of many?
‘Together, we have a chance of stopping him.  Separate, we’ve already lost.  And don’t think that sitting this one out will protect you.  As soon as he’s done with Ninjago, he’ll come for you.’

skyward!cole can maybe come off as insensitive to lloyd and/or the others especially when it comes to pushing him, but you’ve just got to realize he’s the equivalent of that one student that the teacher (re: destiny) leaves in charge when she leaves the room and he has to keep everyone else on track evenw hen he’d much rather goof off with the rest of the kids

is skyward a “good story”? probably not.  is it a fun story, one that I had fun writing and still reading until this day?  definitely.  and that’s what matters.
there’s stuff I’d go back and change.  there’s dialogue i cringe at, awkward phrasing and descriptions that just sound dumb.
but it’s my story, and it’s a record of my writing growth.
and that’s really cool.

Skyward Deleted Scene 1: Your Weapons Are Vehicles
In honor of Appreciate a Dragon Day, which was today (well, yesterday), have a deleted scene from Skyward.
“Ninja go!”
With a shout, Jay spinjitzued into his dragon form. I’ve gotta get that staff! He unfurled his wings and took off into the sky. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his body. What? What happened? He twisted his head around. My wing! In his haste, he’d struck the appendage against the wrecking ball. The end of it was bent up at an unnatural angle. I’m falling! The lightning ninja had just enough sense to remember to spin.
He landed back onto the ground as a human.
“Jay! Are you okay?” Cole ran over to him.
Jay wiggled his fingers and toes, and winced as a sharp pain filled his wrist. “I think I sprained it,” he moaned.
“It'ssssssss okay sssssson,” hissed Ed, coming up to stand behind him.
“There is still a way,” revealed Sensei.
The lightning ninja turned to look at him. “How?” he asked.
“Part of reaching your own full potential is understanding your weapon’s potential. Once it is in tune with a focused heart, it’s secrets and powers can be unlocked.”
“What?” Jay asked in disbelief. “This is not the time to be cryptic!”
“He’s saying our weapons are vehicles themselves,” Zane explained. Trust him to understand.
“Don’t tell me I have to ride this like a broomstick,” Kai said, holding up his sword and examining it.
“Jay,” the old teacher instructed. “Concentrate on unlocking your weapon. Let your heart guide you. Focus on the feeling of flight.”
Jay closed his eyes and held his nun-chuks out in front of him. Flight… Flying… Soaring… Something shifted inside him, and he bit back a yelp. He could practically feel power pulsing from the weapon into his arms. Swooping… Diving… His body tingled with sudden pent-up energy, begging to be released. Gliding… Hovering… The nearly-unbearable sensation disappeared just as rapidly as it started, and he felt his hair stand up from static electricity crackling behind him.
The lightning ninja opened his eyes, only to find everyone staring at him.
“Well that was unexpected,” mumbled Sensei, and Jay was startled to have heard his every word. What’s wrong?
“Um, Jay? You might want to look at your back,” Kai said hesitantly.
“My back?”
The lightning ninja twisted around and caught a brief glimpse of something bright and blue. What’s that?
Jay turned the other way slowly, and the thing behind him swung in and out of his vision. Is that… A dragon wing? He rushed over to his parents’ trailer. A vague version of his reflection peered back at him, but that wasn’t what made his heart skip a beat. Behind him, two huge shapes flared outwards from his back. They were indeed dragon wings, and they appeared to be completely made up of lightning.
“Whoa!” Jay shouted. “Did I do that?” The wings’ reflection flickered, and Jay quickly re-focused his attention on them.
He turned back to face the team. Kai was standing with his sword ready, a pair of flaming wings waving above his head. Zane’s wings were fairly small -which Jay thought ironic since he was the tallest out of the four- and they shimmered in the sunlight. Cole was buried in a pile of rocks.
The lightning ninja tried to move his wings. Come on! I need to get that staff up there! Suddenly, Jay found himself in the sky. So I move by thoughts? Um, go left! He moved left. This is so cool!

Skyward Deleted Scene 3: Here Comes the Dummy
Originally would have taken place during chapter 22, I think.
———-
The sun was high overhead by the time Cole called for a break. Lloyd fought the urge to flop down on the sand. Who knew that spinjitzu would be this hard? And I haven’t done any spinning yet!
They were in the mini-cove that Lloyd found that morning, the one hidden from the ground. Cole had helped him scale over the rocks and when they’d dropped down on the other side, he’d said it was perfect for training. Lloyd didn’t know what exactly they were looking for, but if Cole thought it was great, then great!
“Hey Cole! Lloyd!”
Lloyd looked up. Kai stood above them, waving. Lloyd waved back.
“Hey, Kai!” said Cole, changing back into a human. “Wait, aren’t you supposed to be at training?”
“Yeah, well I could ask you the same question.” Kai scrambled down the rocks to join them. “Honestly, I’m kinda ticked at Fire for not waking me up. Cutting classes seemed like the thing to do. And guess what I brought!”
“Breakfast!”
“Well, it’s more like lunchtime,” Kai said, unloading the bag from his shoulder. “But yeah. Dig in, everybody.”
Lloyd didn’t need to be asked twice. The fish was greasy but good and he licked his fingers. “Thanks, Kai!”
“No problem, kid.” Kai looked around at their training area. “This looks like a nice set-up.”
“Cole made it!” Lloyd jumped from the ground and took the fire ninja’s hand. “You’ve gotta see it up close.”
Cole had used his super-cool dregon powers to create a training course of rocks. There were tall rocks Lloyd was supposed to hop across and large earthy spikes he launched from the sand by stomping. Kai ran his hand along one of the spikes.
“Wow, Cole. This is pretty cool.”
“Thanks.” Cole pushed himself to his feet. “Hey, do you want to help us?”
“Teach Lloyd spinjitzu? Yeah! That is what I’m here for.” Kai rolled up his sleeves. “What do you got for me to do?”
Cole grinned. “Well, remember how Jay figured it out? Spinjitzu, I mean. Over the planks, dodge the swords-”
“-Here comes the dummy,” Kai finished. His eyes went wide. “Wait a minute, you want me-”
“To be the dummy?” Cole’s grin went sly. Lloyd cackled. Both ninja looked over at him.
“It’s funny!” he defended. Kai glared at him and Lloyd suddenly worried that he’d upset the fire ninja. But then he threw his hands in the air and groaned.
“Gah, fine! I’ll play your dummy.”
“Great.” Cole clapped him on the back.
“Yeah, well don’t get used to it,” Kai grumbled, but he was grinning too
