Creditibility interview
How to answer questions in order to pass it?
Credibility interview is a mandatory part of your admission and visa application process and its main goal is to find out if you area genuine student. In this section you will find the most common interview questions, explanation what university or visa officer wants to find out and a safe answer. Q: question; E: explanation (why do they ask this question?), A: sample answer. All the answers are sample, please answer according to your real circumstances.
The questions below are applicable to university and UKVI interviews. All the examples and answers are from our successful applicants. Let’s dive in!
Q: Have you been to the UK before? If yes, why and for how long? E: They want to find out your previous immigration history, previous applications and visa refusals. A: I have never been to the UK or any other countries.
Q: Why do you want to study in the UK?
E: To find out the reasons of why you want to study in the UK and if you are a genuine student.
A: I see this as a great opportunity for myself. People, who speak good English and have a UK degree in Business Management are in high demand on the Ukrainian market. I would like to be competitive on Ukrainian job market and get international experience in a world recognised university as it is an investment in my future and it will open the doors wherever I go.
Q: Name of the course
E: To find out your study plans
A: BSc (Hons) Business Management
Q: Why did you choose this course?
E: To find out your knowledge about the course, assessments, interests and modules.
A: I was interested in business courses, because now the world is changing at very fast pace. That's why this is good opportunity for me to gain knowledge, which I will use in my job in the future or even in my own business. By studying this course I will be a standout and strong specialist. I have chosen this course because it offers such modules as Economics, Business Statistics, Data Analysis, Business Accounting, Project Management, that are essential for any business and will be very useful in the future. Assessment will be based on theoretical skills (exams) and practical (applied business project), so I will gain knowledge and experience I need before entering this competitive job market.
Q: Which other universities did you consider?
E: Your reasons for choosing to study in X university compared to alternatives. Important: Be specific when comparing institutions, you may want to think about modules, course content, location, costs, accessibility, tutor profiles, university rankings, post-study employment statistics and opportunities.
A: I had 3 unconditional offers: one from the Greenwich University, one from the BPP University and one from the University of East London. The Greenwich University Course was Business Management BA and fees were £13000 per year. I didn’t choose this course because in my opinion it was too concentrated on HR subjects, like Managing Organizations and Individuals, International Human Resource Management, Business Ethics, Cross Cultural Management, etc. Course name in BPP was advanced diploma in accounting and finance and course duration was 18 months. Fees were £8010 for the whole course. BPP is good university, which is accredited fully by ACCA, but it wasn't Bachelor’s Degree. I decided to go for Business Management BA course, because they offer Marketing, Data Analysis, Business Management modules that I am interested in and are much more practical and even offer Business Management Internship. This course is fully accredited by Chartered Management Institute which will give a professional recognition as well as networking and mentoring opportunities. Fee is £12100 per academic year and I was offered £1500 scholarship. I have chosen this course because post-study statistics show that 95% of students find a job within 6 months after completing this course.
Q: Why did you choose this university?
E: To find out your reasons to choose this specific university A: University of East London offers one of the most trusted and innovative study opportunities. It is also located near the Central London, which has a lot of opportunities, and a model city for the rest of the Europe and worldwide. It equips the graduates with the modern facilities to be competitive in anywhere. In UEL I will be connected to an international community of students and former students from more than 120 countries. I will be able to get to know people from different cultures and countries, learn from them and develop personally. In the University of East London, I will be able to pursue my personal interests, make lifelong friends and enjoy the excitement of university life. As at UEL there are almost 60 societies and 26 different sports clubs, I am sure I will join one (or even more) in order to boost my opportunities and future career.
Q: Tell me more about London, what research did you do about the city?
E: To make sure that you completed your research about the city you would like to study in
A: London is the capital and the largest city in the UK. It is one of the most important global cities, which gives unlimited opportunities for people who want to develop. London is the most diverse and welcoming city in the world according to the Guardian Newspaper. I love the combination of old and new in London. I can visit Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament as well as modern buildings as the Shard or a Sky Garden in Fenchurch. I am very excited about the trip and I can’t wait to see this beautiful iconic city.
Q: What is the rating of this university?
E: To check if you made a research and you know your university ranking
A: 104th in the Guardian University Guide 2020. UEL places in the top 200 for second year running in global Times Higher Education Young University Rankings. In case you are applying to the BPP University, REMEMBER, it has no rating. It is a private university. (As BPP do not offer any research based courses, this excludes BPP from the Complete University Guide ranking table, where one of the rating criteria is research).
Q: Why did you choose to study in the UK?
E: To understand the reason why would you like to study in the UK.
A: UK degree is accepted everywhere in the world including in Ukraine. I have noticed that specialists with European diplomas are in high demand. After completing my course, I will be a standout candidate for local and international companies with my experience, and will be much easier to find well paid jobs with UK degree. In the future it is my dream to run my own business.
Q: What are your future plans after you complete the course?
E: To find out if you researched a job market and are planning to come back to your country
A: After completing my course I will be a strong specialist with international experience. I will return to my home country and apply for a jobs in companies in Kyiv, there are a lot of foreign companies, coming to Ukraine which need skilled specialists. Starting position will be business manager. I have made some research and found vacancies in different companies, such as IBM, Accenture and British American Tobacco. Starting salaries are from 800-1000$. I wish I could open my own business and work for myself, even if it will be a little company. I will develop my skills and after having some money I will use opportunity to run my own business.
Q: How does this course help you achieve this?
E: To find out the relevance of course to post-study plans
A: As I mentioned before, there are a different types of educational resources, which will help me to deal with different situations in job or even life. There will be lots of opportunities to practice in local or international companies. They support students and help them achieve big targets. Now I don't have rich experience, and I hope I will gain them through the course. I have burning desire to gain knowledge and step by step reach my goal.
Q: Can you confirm how much you earn per month in pounds?
E: Whether you have enough funds to meet course fees, and living costs for yourself and any dependants for the duration of the course in the UK.
A: I work part time and my salary is around 150 pounds monthly.
Q: How much will it cost you to complete this course in full?
E: To gain qualification from the UK is a considerable investment and interviewer needs to make sure that you understand it and know how much it will cost for you.
A: It will cost around 70000 pounds for 3 years Calculation: course fee x 3 years + living expenses (£1265 living expenses x 9 months x 3 years).
Q: Where will you live whilst studying ?
E: To make sure that you arranged accommodation. Please use information from your accommodation arrangement letter to answer this question.
A: I will live in Finsbury Park, in a double room, which will be shared with another short term student. The property is located 3 minutes from Finsbury Park underground station. My rent is £120 per week including bills.
Q: How will you get from and to the school every day? E: The distance between your place of studies and proposed accommodation in the UK
A: I will buy a travel card and be using public transportation. I checked my commute on the TFL website. I can use the Victoria line, The Piccadilly line or the bus 19. It will take me approximately half an hour to get to university every day. To check the time and details of my commute I will use TFL (Transport for London), Citymapper App and Google Maps.
Q: Are you going to work in the UK?
E: To find out if you are planning to work in the UK
A: NO, I will fully concentrate on my studies. DO NOT say that you plan to work in the UK as your visa application might be refused. Work allowance is 20 hours per week.
Q: Do you have any dependants (for example children or other family members that are financially dependent on you)?
E: Your personal circumstances, where these may make it difficult to complete a fulltime course of study.
Recommendation: even if you have dependants, it is better to apply for their visas once you already got yours.
A: NO
Q: Do you have any family in the UK?
A: NO
Q: What subjects/modes will you study?
E: To understand if made a research and know what subjects you will study.

Visa conditions for overseas students
You need to get your visa sorted as early as possible.
If you are not a national of the European Economic Area (EEA), you will need a visa to study in the UK. This will be a Visa with Sponsorship from the institution you are intending to study at. Your visa should allow for multiple entries into the country.
You will need to show that you can study in the UK without needing access to public funds.
If you will be studying in inner London you will need to show that you have £1,000 a month for the first nine months of your studies.
Outside London you have to demonstrate you have £800.
Students on Tier 4 Visas have the right to work for up to 20 hours a week, part-time.
When they have completed their studies, they may apply to stay in the UK under a different visa tier.
Students graduating from Sep 2021 will now eligible for a 2 years Post Study Work (PSW) visa.
In general, students from the EEA may work in the UK.
International students should investigate funding opportunities in their own country first. At the same time they should contact the British Council office.
The most high profile schemes for international postgraduates include the British Chevening Scholarships funded by the UK government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
These are competitive – only one in 25 applicants is successful – and you need to apply early i.e. by April or May for awards starting the following year.
They are aimed at overseas students whose study will enable them to take part in development work in their home country.
The Shell Centenary Chevening Scholarships are offered at certain universities and you need to apply well in advance of your start date.
Check out the Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships Plan for students from certain commonwealth countries and the DFID Shared Scholarship Scheme.

Why study in UK?
Why Study in the UK
The UK has become one of the top destinations to study around the world. With traditions of excellence dating back hundreds of years, high class institutions on every corner, and much more flexibility than many other countries, the United Kingdom has much to offer international students that other English-speaking countries cannot.
But what makes the United Kingdom stand out? Why should you come to the UK as a destination to further your international education?
Growing Destination
International students have always been an important presence in the UK, and their numbers have been growing steadily over the years. The UK is the second most popular destination for international students, behind the US. The UK has worked hard to capitalize on the growing demand for English-language instruction and the post-9/11 visa hurdles in the US. The top ten countries sending students to the UK are:
China
Malaysia
USA
India
Hong Kong
Germany
Nigeria
France
Italy
Ireland
For more demographic and statistical information about international students in the UK, visit the UK Council for International Student Affairs .
Worldwide Recognition
Degrees and qualifications from UK higher education institutions are known around the world as high quality and world class. This standard of excellence is set by some of the older universities with recognizable names, such as Oxford and Cambridge, but the tradition carries through to many of the universities and colleges throughout the UK. When looking for work in the future, this can be a great selling point in your favour.
Education Costs are Lower
Because your degree will generally take less time to complete in the UK than in other countries, you could save money compared to a US school. Although four-year programs are increasing in popularity, most degree programs in the UK are three years, and a masters program is typically between one and two years.
Although international students can manage their affairs so that their UK education is affordable, UK policymakers are taking note of an alarming trend in the cost of education for non-EU students. With exchange rates climbing, life in the UK can become expensive. In addition, unlike in many other EU countries, non-EU students are charged higher rates in the UK than students from EU countries. One recent study from the Higher Education Policy Institute warned that the UK must act to contain and reduce tuition and costs to stay competitive in the hunt for international students. As global competition for international students heats up, it can be predicted that the UK will act aggressively to keep the country a primary destination for international students.
Work Opportunities
An international student in the UK is typically allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during school term, and up to full-time when school is out of term. You should check with your international advisor at your school before starting any work - you do not want to be in violation of your visa, and rules change frequently. Keep in mind it is not always easy to find a job, so relying on work income to fund your entire education is not a good idea. Unless you have employment set up through your school before you arrive, you should plan to fund the entire first year of your studies without any employment income. Visit our Visa and Immigration pages for more details on working in the UK as an international student.
Scholarships/ Loans
Financing an international education can be difficult. The best approach includes lots of preparation, careful analysis of your budget, and hard work in researching and applying for scholarships. There are many scholarships and loans available to students who want to study in the UK. Our Financing/ Scholarships section section has more detailed information, along with the following resources:
UK Scholarship Search
UK Loans for US Citizens
Education UK Scholarship Database
Gateway to Europe
With the addition of the Channel Tunnel and low cost airlines, Europe is easier to access than ever. You can reach most areas of Europe from the UK within a few hours by train or direct flight. If you are studying in London or Manchester and you want a weekend away in Italy, you can fly direct to Rome, Milan, Pisa, Genoa, Venice or several other cities in Italy. The direct flight would take around two hours and costs will vary, depending on when you travel and when you book. Visit our Getting Around section for more UK travel information.
Multicultural Nation
The UK is known for its multicultural society, with nearly all religions and faiths represented. With a racial, ethnic and religious jumble, the UK is very open to new traditions and cultures - a great thing for students from other countries. For more information, visit our Religion section or visit the following sites:
Catholic Church in England
Church of England (Protestant)
Buddhist Society UK
Islamic Society UK
Judaism UK
Since the UK is such a melting pot, students can feel confident that a place of worship will be easily accessible for most major religions.
