What To Consider When Remodeling Your Kitchen
White refrigerators and flat light wood cabinets with no handles, be gone! If your kitchen forgot to jump in the time machine and is still stuck in the 80’s, it’s time for an upgrade. If you want more information about the latest kitchen design trends while remodeling, read on! The kitchen is commonly referred to as the heart of your home. Whether you’re a solo chef or someone who likes to have even the smallest members of the family helping out, the kitchen is a place where you spend a lot of your time. Studies have proven time and time again that our environment dictates our mood, so why not make your kitchen into a beautiful place that you enjoy being in?
Tumblr media
Tile In the 80’s, blank walls and patterns were all the rage. Many kitchens that were built in the 80’s feature outdated tiles with interestingly specific designs on them. Do those lemons really speak to your current aesthetic? If you still love patterns but want an upgrade, there are many updated options to choose from. Subway tiles and tiles with marble have been all the rage in recent years and can make even the smallest kitchen look huge!
Floors Back in the days before we knew hairspray destroyed the ozone layer and made it a contest to see who could get their hair bigger, kitchen floors all looked very similar. Many people believed that kitchens had to have tile floors, which has left many of us scrubbing grout for years. Did you know that laminate or wood floors are an option now? By continuing the flooring from the rest of your home, you can create a cohesive look and space that speaks to you!
Countertops Gone are the days of boring countertops! Instead of plain white laminate countertops, pick something that really piques your interest and flows with the style that YOU like. After all, this is your kitchen not your mother’s! Beautiful granite, elegant marble, tastefully designed laminate, the possibilities are endless!
Tumblr media
Cabinets Countertops take up more space in your kitchen than anything else, so it’s important to make sure you like them! While flat white and light brown cabinets with no handles were the style back in the 80’s, they really date a kitchen today. New cabinets designed with depth on the doors and beautiful hardware can transform your space into a modern work of art.

Knee Replacement Surgery
Total knee replacements are typically less painful and have fewer precautions to follow, but they can be more difficult for the patient.
The following tips will help increase your mobility after a total knee replacement:
When ambulating, lead with the walker and     then the surgical leg. Try to keep your hands free of any weight bearing     so that you can use them for balance when needed. Keep a towel roll under     your heel throughout every sitting or laying down position to elevate it     in order to reduce swelling from standing too long on one foot at a time     during physical therapy sessions after surgery as well as prevent other     potential complications associated with not elevating an injured extremity     sufficiently while resting
Following a knee replacement surgery, you     should avoid sitting in low chairs or surfaces. For example, use the     bedside commode over the toilet or next to your bed rather than using it     on top of an already-low toilet seat. You could also buy raised seats for     toilets with handles if they are not provided by insurance companies and     can be found online at websites like Amazon
Lower body dressing can be difficult for     those who have had a knee surgery, so the hip kit will also prove     invaluable in donning and doffing socks, shoes, and threading pants..
 ADL Education Following Shoulder Surgery
Along with the previous precautions, patients will also need     to be cognizant of their operative shoulder during ADLs. Further education     regarding these general precautions can include:
Avoid reaching for items on high shelves and while cooking by     keeping your hand away from the surgical site. Eating smaller meals that     are easy to hold in one hand is a good idea too, as well as cutting food     into bite sized pieces rather than using utensils such as forks or spoons     when eating. It might also be helpful if you use both hands simultaneously     throughout tasks like opening doors or carrying grocery bags so that only     one of them will need to come near the incision site.
Doctors recommend avoiding twisting     movements at all costs! If you have had a recent surgery, avoid pushing up     from chair or toilet with the arm used for the operation. This is to     prevent injury and make sure everything heals properly. Avoid any hygiene     tasks such as reaching back during toileting until cleared by your medical     professional!
Upper body dressing is generally the most     challenging task after this surgery. The best way to educate your patient     in completing upper body dressing is to wear button-up, loose fitting     shirts and to not use operative arm during the task. To doff the     shirt, start with taking the shirt off the non-operative arm first,     then gently slide the shirt off of the non-operative arm.
The following are basic care tips for someone who has     sustained an arm injury: to don a shirt, start with the operative arm     first by gently sliding the shirt onto it with the non-surgical arm, then     pull in your unaffected limb and button up. After this is done you can     apply any other necessary medical supports such as slings or braces. You     should only use one of these limbs when doing all ADL's so that they heal     properly until you get clearance from a doctor to resume regular activity.

Cataracts - Snead Eye Group
Over fifty percent of people over the age of 60, and quite a few younger than that, suffer from cataracts. In fact, cataracts are so common it is said that everyone will develop a cataract if they live long enough.
A cataract is a progressive clouding of the eye’s natural lens that interferes with light passing through to the retina. Sufferers usually describe the condition as being similar to looking through a waterfall, or a piece of wax paper, with gradual blurring or dimming of vision.
Reading may become more difficult and driving a car can actually become dangerous. Cataract sufferers may also be troubled by a bothersome glare, halos around lights, or even double vision. As the cataract becomes worse, frequent changes in eye-glass prescriptions may become necessary.
Currently there is no medical treatment to reverse or prevent the development of cataracts. Once they form, there is only one way to achieve clear vision again, and that is to physically remove the cataract from the eye.
